Babbalui Well, I say that it is wierd because they are complete opposites and that we Tau players end up going towards the Chaos side for a second army most of the time. It is a strange combination and yet it is VERY common! eek xd hmmm That would be interesting to get them mixed up during a battle.

Y'know...
...is there any fluff reason (other than the life-long engrained 'Greater Good' schtick) that Tau can't feasibly become tainted by the Dark Gods?

FlashbackJon Y'know... ...is there any fluff reason (other than the life-long engrained 'Greater Good' schtick) that Tau can't feasibly become tainted by the Dark Gods? Yes. Tau are blunts. They barely have a warp presence, so daemons and the like don't notice them, and when they do it's hard to possess a Tau because it has so little connection to the Warp and a short lifespan. By Inquisitor rules, a manifested daemon can only see a Tau half the time or so. Also, I'll share this tidbit given to us by one of the people who worked on the Tau Empire codex; Inquisitor Engel This is how it was put to me. Think of the warp as a big blanket thrown over the "light" of the real-universe. Each soul shines through a different sized hole, showing itself to the Daemons. A human is if you fired a bullet through it. An Eldar, a baseball. The human has a normal incandescent bulb behind it. The Eldar has a big flourescent bulb. The Tau shines an LED through a pinprick. Bright, but small. Fluff is ultimately what you make it. I've had to abandon a couple of my pet ideas (Remainin Old One influence on the Tau, The Dawnblade being a Sword of Vaul, etc) since learning facts that GW would never disclose, but that doesn't mean I thought they weren't good ideas or bear more discussion. Oh, and no, the Ethereals are not the least bit psychicly gifted. Size of the hole being warp presence, and brightness being strength of the soul, for clarification.

Tau would make excellent Daemon Hunters coupled with stealth tech and battlesuits.

I read a bit of the Tau story, so I understood that the Tau have absolutely no psychic powers what-so-ever. The Etherals are mistaken to have psychic powers by many Tau players, but the only purpose they have is their intelligence and inspiring presence. 3nodding

The occassionally help your firewarriors hit things by saying, "Hey! Don't aim so damn high! Maybe you could hit the broad side of a barn if you tried a little harder!" And as long as they are alive, they can help morale checks by saying, "Hey! If you run, i'll smite you with my non-existant psychic powers!"
So, all in all... Yep, useless. 3nodding

I took one in my army prior to the new codex because I could ensure that units that needed to hold up a combat would remain, and units that needed to flee so that the rest of my army could shoot the scary assault unit would flee. The Ethereal's Inspiring Presence rule is dead useful. The problem is that it no longer outweighs the penalty that is The Price of Failure.

Aun'Va is even worse I reckon. He is basicly to me a special character that is more often better of dead than alive. To me I reckon the inspiring presence should apply to all Tau units on the field still. Cause the Tau would know if they where there thus it still could inspire them even if they where not in their eyeline.

Cause the Tau would know if they where there thus it still could inspire them even if they where not in their eyeline. Yeah, what drives me nuts is that while they nerfed the range of Inspring Presence, they didn't similarly downgrade the range of Price of Failure. So Tau are not inspired to do well unless they can see the Ethereal, even though he's on the battlefield and they know it, but if they even hear that he's dead, It's "OMFGWTF WEEZ PWNED" and the Fire Warriors scamper away. I wouldn't be half as upset if Ethereals could just shell out for a goddamn armor or invuln save. Seriously. I think it's the only goddamn HQ in the game with NO save. At least Aun'shi had a 4+ invuln.
