Jess didn't know how to respond to that, and he turned his eyes awkwardly to the ground.

River smiled gently and touched Miyuki's arm lightly. "Don't let it get you down," she murmured. "Help did come. And that's why you're training, right? So that if it happens again you can defend yourself. It's been less than a year for you since the first attack happened, no one can master anything in that time frame. Give yourself a chance."

She blinked, she hadn't realized she was being that obvious with her feelings. Though she supposed after everything that would have been pretty obvious. Miyuki smiled softly and nodded at this.

"You're right, thank you."

River smiled, glad that she could help her friend.

Very soon they were back at the palace, and River and Jess went off to pack their things for the trip, leaving Miyuki to do her own thing.

Instead of heading straight to her room, Miyuki instead headed for her brother's room. Now that she remembered the crystal, she really should return that to him, and now that she had remembered, she should also rune his bag.

She was pretty sure she had the materials for that. A bit of magic, a bit of ink and a brush. The young kitsune wasn't skilled enough to make it by pure magic like she knew her grandfather or grandmother could.

Andarien was in his room, training Eon. He had already packed away all of his papers and designs, gears and tools, and truth be told he had been a bit bored. He had found a ball in the bottom of his bag and was using it to train Eon by throwing it to different areas of the room and getting Eon to attack it using various attacks.

Next to the bed, Ponydash was watching with only slight interest, occasionally pawing at the floor.

There was a knock at the door, three in total. Miyuki was standing on the other side. She could kind of hear the shuffling of what she assumed was Andarien and his Pokemon.

She wondered what they were doing since most of their things were probably packed up by now.

Andarien blinked and set aside the ball that Eon brought back to him. Who could that be at his door? No one had paid him much mind today, everyone was so busy with their own thing.

"Coming," he called, heading towards the door.

Eon and Ponydash looked on curiously, and Eon ran to follow right behind Andarien. Andarien had to nudge the Pokemon out of the way so that he could open the door without hitting him.

"Oh, hi Mi," he blinked in surprise when he saw his sister there. "Nice staff."

"Thanks, I just came back from the city," Miyuki replied with a smile, "But while I was heading out I remembered I still have that crystal from the caves. I thought you might want that back, and I thought to maybe rune your bag while I'm here."

So he would have an easier time to packing things. It was one of the most commonly used runes in the family so it was the first she learned.

Andarien's face clouded with momentary confusion. "Crys.... oh yeah!" He brightened up immediately. "I forgot about that! Thanks!"

He opened the door wider, a silent invitation for her to enter, and stepped aside. "I didn't get a chance to ask Shiro about it," he mused, his mind still on the crystal. "Maybe I can still ask him this afternoon."

If the crystal was something important, he might ask someone to go with him to get more from the caves again.

"Oh, and you'll need my bag, too won't you," he murmured. He looked around for it. "Where did I put it?"

She followed Andarien into his room and rummaged around in her bag for the crystal. When one forgot about such things, it was harder to find. It made Miyuki think that maybe she would look for a bag with many pockets so it would be easier to find certain items.

Now there was a thought, of course the kind of things one could rune was nearly endless.

"Let's see.... ah! Here it is!"
she pulled it out, careful not to cut herself where it had broken off.

"Thanks, just put it on the bed for now," Andarien told her, heading to his chest to look for the bag that needed runing.

As it was Lin's old bag, rather than one specifically for him, he didn't have a particular fondness for it; it was simply a necessary item, like his clothes, or a cloak. Very different from his chest, which he was indeed very fond of.

He opened the chest and rummaged around in its magically expanded space, and in a moment, he came up with the desired bag.

"Here it is," he announced, standing up and holding it up to show Miyuki.

As requested, the crystal was laid carefully on his bed. When Miyuki saw the bag presented to her, she could tell it wasn't something that really suited him. He always kind of struck her as a backpack sort of person, or a messenger bag kind of person

She held onto that thought as she took the bag from him. Taking his and hers over to his desk, she took out a brush (her preferred rather than a fountain pen) and an ink well.

"It'll just take a few moments,"
she told him, "Then maybe we can ask Shiro about that crystal?"

"Kay." Andarien picked up the crystal from his bed and turned it over in his hand, examining it closely. Suddenly, as if he'd just realized what she had said, he looked up at her sharply. "You going to come talk to Shiro with me?"

It wasn't that he didn't want her to come; he was just surprised. He didn't know she was interested in it.

Miyuki nodded absently, she didn't see the look on his face because she was focused on drawing the rune set at the bottom of the bag. All the while absently wondering if she drew it inside the bottom of a pocket if that aspect would become bottomless and then you'd have different compartments to hold a lot of stuff.

"I'm just curious, I've never seen crystals like it and we know that dust stuff on the crystal was some sort of... sulfur smelling stuff, and that might be what the crystals are made out of, but not much else."

And since it was obvious the burnt corpses were from the dragons, the chances were they weren't in a volcano at all like she first thought, but she wanted to know what they were and why it smelled.

Andarien grinned. "Yeah, I want to know things about it, too. And Shiro's the kind of smart guy that he would know all about it."

He watched Miyuki with mild interest. It seemed she wasn't just going to put on a rune like the others bags he'd seen, and he was curious to know what she was doing.

"And ... I think I should talk to Nana and Ada before we go, too," he added slowly, hesitantly, uncomfortable with voicing his thoughts but feeling he really ought to. "I ... was thinking ... for both of us ... I know we neither of us likes learning how to fight but ... maybe we really should learn. I mean, what if something happens to us again? And Luk says that the weapons in Caras Galadhon are useless so ... maybe ... I dunno, do you think I should ask Nana and Ada while we're still here?"
