Tora started breathing slowly, still unconscious. The curse rune vanished under his fur again.

Vidar rubbed his side, sewing Tora's wing back together with his magic. "At least your alive..."
Mit rocked back on his heels, "Why couldn't you save Ambersky like that?"
"Because he was dying when he got to me... Even if I had used the spell to bring him back... It wouldn't have been Ambersky, it would have been something else entirely." Vidar said gently, "I thought you understood this Mitica... No one, no one but god should bring the dead back to life. It distorts it, twists it, makes it wrong. We can fix things, heal them faster, or make them grow, but we can't bring the dead back to life. It is against every mage's law; elf, human, or dwarf. Mitica... Your familiar is dead, if your lucky, you might get another, if not, you need to learn to live without him."

Tora's body then began to glow as the curse took effect. He couldn't survive unless he was someone's familiar. He had only a few hours before he could no longer support himself.

Vidar looked down at Tora, "This looks like your chance... Which one of you want to become Tora's partner?"
Mitica shook his head and stepped away, "I can't... I don't want another in my head... I can't..." He croached down and tucked his head between his knees, shaking, "I want Sky.... I can't.... I just want Sky."

"Alright, now call out to him, mentally, like when you talk to Ambersky." Vidar explained, "You have to offer yourself to him, and you have to take part of him into you. The two of you are going to be two parts of one whole, part of each other for the rest of your existence. You have to be willing to give that to him, and to offer the same protection he would give you." Vidar smiled, "Look deep within yourself, and you'll know what to say to him."

Violet looked down at Tora and then closed her eyes. Tora, please, you can have half of me, she thought to him. Just live. You can't die. Take whatever you need from me.

Tears formed in Tora's closed eyes. For a moment he thought he saw his dead fiancee. She spoke to him, telling him to go back no matter the cost. Then she faded away from his mind. His body gave off a glow as the pact started to form between Voilet and himself.

Violet was relaxed as the pact formed.

Vidar rocked back on his heels watching the pact happen as he smiled.
Mit had to get up and leave. It was too painful to watch this, something that he'd just lost, it was too much for him so see such and action with any joy. He went back to the funeral room. He didn't want to see anyone ever again, but the funeral would be in a day or two. Then he'd have to field their comments.

Tora still didn't move when the glow faded, but now he was Violet's familiar.
