Activating explosive tags
Hiru follows the instruction sheet he found in the explosive tag box in an effort to master the art of blowing up stuff.

DC = 12 (fail)

"Well I guess this was a success... in a certain way.", Hiru thought, his face still hot from the explosion. The sound of the explosive tag going off was certain to have attracted everyone's attention around the academy, but Hiru didn't bother much with this anymore, he was simply focused on mastering this technique that could end up proving itself very useful in the future.

DC = 8 (fail)

He walked back to the stump to investigate the results. It was kinda hard to even see where he had originally thrown the kunai since pretty much everything in that general area had been blown to smitherines. After a bit of investigation, he ended up simply walking to the deepest point of the small crater and assumed it must have been there. "Wow, that's pretty nasty... have to watch who I throw this at...", Hiru whispered. Of course, to someone as pacifist as him, the idea of blowing someone to bits was not the first that came to mind...

DC = 13 (fail)

Blowing up an explosive tag lying on the ground was one thing, but Hiru wondered if activating it in mid-air was going to be a bit more complex. Just to try it out, he threw it in the distance and tried igniting it before the kunai stopped. For some reason, he just couldn't seem to get the dead middle of the tag, clearly able to focus at the sheet itself but never quite where he should have to get the optimal results.

Batou had been startled by the sound of the detonation in the distance. He had immediately rushed to its origin to see if it was another invasion starting. Had he ever been inclined to smile, he probably would have giggled a bit at the sight of the toasted shark boy, flat against the wall with a series of explosive tags in front of him. However, that just wasn't him. He stayed there a while, watching him try to ignite a flying tag and fail miserable.

"Hey kid, you're going to be wasting my time all day if you try to focus only on the tag at the spot where you see it, you have to anticipate the trajectory and focus as it is moving forward.", Batou advised, hoping Hiru would get it soon so he could move on to more interesting things.

DC = 14 + 3 = 17 (pass)

After listening to Mean-sensei's somewhat harsh advice, Hiru realized what he had done wrong. This time he tossed the kunai "accidentaly" in mean-sensei's general direction. He focused on the trajectory of the projectile gradually as it moved away from him. About halfway between Hiru and Andou, the tag detonated in a powerful blast, leaving a thick smokescreen in its place that lasted for a few seconds.

DC = 2 (fail)

Once the smoke dissipated Hiru saw Mean-sensei gradually appear in front of him. He hadn't move an inch. This could be interpreted in two ways. 1. he was very confident that Hiru would detonate the explosive tag before it reached him or, 2. he was absolutely certain he'd fail and that the kunai would land behind him undetonated. Of course another explanation would be that he was just plain cocky and thought he could dodge it if bad came to worse.

"Not bad kid.", Andou said, flickering back inside.

Hiru figured that now that Mean-sensie had spotted him, he just might as well go ahead with the training the others had done. He walked inside the academy and took a look at what was happening. Some people were slowly sparring on one side, and on the other were training dummies thats seemed to have been freshly beaten.

"Cool, I'll warm up on that!", Hiru thought.

He grabbed one of the bamboo training sticks from the wall and lined up in front of the dummy, ready to start training.

Hitting Dummies

DC = 10 + 5 = pass

Hiru took a few seconds to stretch out before starting to take swings at the dummy. All he had been doing for a while was chakra training which hadn’t been so rough on his muscles; a good work out was sure to work wonders for him. Once he was done doing his shoulder motions, he immediately took one quick practice swing at the dummy, unleashing a very loud noise throughout the training area.

DC= 1 + 5 = fail

The feeling was very pleasant, he could even feel his chakra system recuperating with the increase of blood flow through his vessels from the intensity of the exercise. Hiru switched back into a combat stance and took a good whack at his target once more. This time, even though there was contact, the blow bounced off the dummy, minimizing its effectiveness. He’d have to make sure something like this would happen as little as possible in actual combat.

DC = 19 + 5 = pass

Hiru tried an alternative stance, a much lower position with his staff above his head, granting better protection from downward attacks. Since this stance was made to counter opponents coming from the air, he tried an upward swing that landed staright on the dummy’s chin… or at least where someone would have a chin. The force of the impact was such that the whole dummy swung backwards, making the forward reaction from the springs almost hit Hiru.

DC = 8 + 5 = pass

This stance looked like a good position, he’d have to adapt to other types of attacks. Sadly, Hiru had been exposed to many types of weapons wielded by some of the best specialists in their field given his lineage; however all those he had seen wielded blades and knives so he’d have to learn the staff by himself. This would however have to be kept hidden from his clan, as defensive or blunt samehadas were regarded as weapons of the weak, making those who wielded them nearly cast-offs from the clan.

DC = 17 + 5 = pass

Hiru got in position, placing his staff in a parallel angle from the ground at waist height. This would be a great stance for lunging attacks, allowing maximum stretch of the body to maximize the reach with forward motions. Giving this new technique a try, he forced the staff forward, as though he wanted to pierce the dummy with his weapon’s blunt tip. Of course, it didn’t happen; however, the spot where the staff’s tip had struck was left with a mark, meaning the force on the impact area was fairly considerable.

Hitting Dummies

d20 + str mod (5)
DC: 10
Train: 9/10

DC = 17 + 5 = pass

Hiru was testing out all of these various stances and realized that there was about as many possible positions with a staff as there are angles of attack from opponents. He stopped a while and wondered if something very basic could work, the good ol' swing. Hiru put one foot in front of the other and took a great big baseball swing at the dummy's head. The result was more than satisfying as his target wiolently swung to the side as the hit connected right with the side of his head.

DC = 15 + 5 = pass

Now that he'd tried a couple of different offensive blows, Hiru thought he'd try fighting on his back foot a bit. He didn't have any real combat experience yet, but he had seen Hoshigaki fighting contests and knew you couldn't always be an agressor, and that the way you fight on your heels differs a lot from fighting on your toes. To get the feeling, Hiru got closer to the dummy and shifted his weight backwards while getting a wider grip on his staff.

DC = 6 + 5 = pass

While in this defensive position, he pushed with his back hand to unleash a quick blow with the short end of his staff. The fact that he hit with the smaller end made him lose considerable power, he realized that of course, but it also granted more speed fot the impact, as well as some element of surprise. THis is a trick he'd have to remember when he was going to get in his first fights, which was sure to be in the near future.

DC = 12 + 5 = pass

If hitting with strength was an important part of physical combat, it wasn't the onl aspect that made blows effective; precision was also key. Hitting an opponent with devastating power to the leg was necessarily going to be less useful than hitting with moderate power to the throat. With this theory in mind, Hiru got back in lunging position, aiming at the dummy's throat, focusing to be as dead on as he could.

DC = 6 + 5 = pass

When he struck with the blow, he realized that impact or the physical effect on the dummy wasn't as significant as with some of the other swings he had taken. However, he was certain of one thing: if he ahd to choose between that shot to the ribs he had just given earlier and that poke the throat, he'd give up the body anytime. Power and precision, that was the key to physical combat.

DC = 19 + 5 = pass

Hiru was getting pretty loose now, his chakra system has had time to recover from the intensive ninjutsu exercises he had just put his body through earlier and felt almost refreshed from the intensive physical exercise. He felt as though he could stop right now, but just for the heck of hit he went for one last descending blow. He jumped as high as he could with his staff firmly gripped over his head and swung down with all the might he had. As soon the staff hit the strength of the blow was such that the fragile training staff cracked and broke in two pieces.

"Oh no, hope no one saw me...", Hiru thought. Trying to put on an innocent look he silently put his staff down at the feet of the dummy and snuck out of the gym... water gliding his away as fast as he could as soon as he finally made it out of the academy.

[[Okay

Batosai was caught by suprise by the punch. The punch landed right into Batosai's gut. Luckly for him it wasn't deep but it left an impact. Batosai tumbled backwards, hardly able to breathe after that punch. "Compose yourself. Take deep breaths, and control your breathing." he thought. As he gave instructions in his mind, his body began to relax. It was like there was no pain from the attack. "Now strike!" he thought as he retaliated with a punch of his own. His body went forward as he exerted little strength.

But unlike Triskal, Batosai wasn't paying attention to his balance. As he threw himself forward, he lost his footing. He could feel his body falling to the floor so he had to stop his attack to catch himself before he landed onto the floor. But this left him wide open.

{Mwhaha... you shall feel the pain of my furious... er... pain thing!))

Triskal was shocked when he hit his foe. This isn't too hard! he thought to himself. His opponent started to recoil, then rushed to strike back, only to collapse as he fell forward. "I'm sorry!" Triskal blurted out, then suddenly stopped, trying to make up some excuse for the outburst. He didn't like hurting others. Well, that's what being a shinobi is all about. At least mostly about. he corrected himself. Then he snapped back to reality.

"Well, you see, I'm sorry that I didn't hit you harder! Ha!" He sort of laughed nervously, eyes shifting back and forth, trying to see if anyone noticed. Now, though, he had to strike. Triskal once again went threw the mental steps. Lifting his hands, he took the correct stance. Taking his time, he raised his left fist while he flew forward with his left. He was actually quite surprised that he even hit his foe, even if it wasn't much of one. This fight was getting interesting!

Batosai had no time to react as Triskal attack. All he could do was brace his was move. But luckly Triskal lost his balance, which gave the opportunity for Batosai to get back to his feet. But he didn't expect for Triskal to recover and attack. Batosai got hit in his right shoulder, which gave off this soft little crack. "Gotta retaliate fast." he thought as he threw his left arm forward. But it was such a frantic punch that all he hit was air.

Kugutsu Mokujin

A strange figure flickered between the two boys that had been sparring with moderate success for a few moments. In front of them rose what appeared to be one of those puppet master's Kugutsu... although it was in complete Kiri jounin uniform and seemed to be moving on its own.

"Alright mes amis, dat's enough for de moment", said Mokujin, physically separating the two. His head turned a complete 180 degrees on his immobile torso to look at their current sensei: "It's alright Andou-kun, I'll take over from 'ere", he told Andou.

User Image

"Hmmph... suit yourself Mokujin-senpai." answered Andou, visibly annoyed at the idea of being replaced. Still, he knew the children were in very good hands with Mokujin so he didn't mind vacating to other occupations, god knows there were plenty of them with the reconstruction... Andou crouched placing one fist on the ground and flickered away, leaving the jounin alone with the students.

User Image

Mokujin took a few moments to look around, trying to see if there were other students in the academy except for these two miniature belligerents. "Man dis place is empty, are dere other students except for de two of you?", Mokujin enquired.
PostPosted: Thu Nov 12, 2009 2:59 am

Triskal jerked back as Batosai threw another punch, but luckily it missed, striking thin air. Triskal steadied himself for another strike, and was about to throw himself onto Batosai when he was startled by an instant flicker in the corner of his eye. The flicker formed into a tall mysterious puppet-like figure. And I didn't think this day could possibly get any weirder! Triskal thought to himself. He personally was annoyed that he had to stop, and right when he was beginning to get the hang of it!

After listening to the two men's discourse, Triskal slowly warmed up to the new man. "Triskal Mizuri at your service Monkey-or wait, was it Mojji." Triskal began, but had to stop, embarrased that he couldn't remember this strange man's name. "But, anyways, I think there may be someone else around here, though I really haven't been paying attention."

Mokujin grinned a bit when he heard the small student's answer, it seemed as though this kid wasn't intimidated at all by the presence of a jounin. "The name's Mokujin, garçon, and if you're talking about de shark kid, I just saw him leave for the library after breaking dat stick dere. We'll get 'im afterwards.", the jounin answered the boy.

Mokujin waved the two boys to follow him. "We're going to get de others at de shoreline before we go on our field trip. You guys follow me." He said, leaving the academy.

Triskal smiled to himself. He really is an odd one, he is. Triskal thought. The man was wearing some kind of armor or something, it was really too dim in the gym to make it out. He shuffled his feet as he got ready to answer. He then turned to face him more clearly. "Okay sir, I mean-Mokujin. I guess I'll just follow you." With one last look at the dummy he had so lovingly dubbed "Muffins", Triskal began to walk away, back up the cold steps of the academy gym, back to the warm surface.
