Jasmine smiled at Lin. "Serenity taught me when I was young," she explained in a soft voice. "Beren says that she is so good, she used to beat him even when she was blind."

Earendil lifted Miyuki a bit higher so that she couldn't reach the board. "No," he said firmly. "No touch, Miyuki. No."

Miyuki's ears droop, she understood that tone, but why couldn't she? She looked up at Earendil and pouted at him. That other person was touching the pieces and moving them all around, why couldn't she?

Earendil smiled and patted her gently on the head. "Too small for you," he murmured. "When you're bigger."

He turned to Ulrich. "I don't suppose there's something here she can play with?" he asked.

Ulrich smiled. "I can get one of Aliya's old dolls," he offered. "They're one of the few things that aren't packed away."

"That's because River likes to play with them when she visits," Jasmine smiled.

Lin grinned remembering her own childhood in growing up with dolls. She loved her dolls when she was little, and she still had them, out of sentimental value.

"I'm going to have to get Miyuki some toys better for her age when I get home," Lin murmured.

"Toys for her age?" Earendil asked as Ulrich headed off to get the promised doll. He tried to keep Miyuki's attention away from the chess set. Unlike the ranch house, this house was not at all childproof.

"Dolls, blocks, things like that. The most I kept were teething rings when I first adopted Miyuki in a... very bad attempt to try and get her to not chew on anything else and because I thought she might teeth later on. I actually didn't know if she would grow a stage so I wasn't prepared for it," Lin explained, "I owned plenty of dolls when I was little."

It was probably the most girly thing Lin had ever done in her life.

Earendil smiled softly. "I don't really remember much about when I was that young," he murmured. "I remember ... a bit about play armies, small carved soldiers maybe ... but that's about it."

When he thought back on it, his toys had probably been modeled after things he would have had to learn later on in his life.

"That's the fun about being only eleven and having the mentality of a young child since the day you're born," Lin grinned as she took to Earendil's side, "I remember making forts and the dolls were the people inside, and then I would play defender... though how good one could be while using a stick and being the size of a doll is questionable."

Those were good times, while she couldn't imagine being that small now she did quite a number of things being small.

Earendil chuckled. "Sounds like it would have been fun," he grinned. "I want my children to grow up like that, having fun and having memories of it. Not just things that are lessons. I mean ... I don't begrudge my parents my upbringing," he added, not wanting to sound as if he hadn't had a good childhood, "but when I listen to the sorts of things you did, or when I see Amalirahc and Miyuki ... I just feel as if there was so much more I could have done."

Lin wasn't so sure if normal children had the freedoms she had growing up. In fact sometimes it sounded down right weird.

Lin chuckled as she leaned against the side of Earendil's chair, which was just about leaning against him.

"I'm sure you have interesting stories like that but you don't remember them," Lin told him impishly.

She had been talking with her brothers at one point or another.

"Me?" Earendil blinked at her, truly not understanding what she was getting at. "I'm sure I have no idea what you're talking about ..."

Ulrich returned just then with a doll in one hand. It was essentially a ragdoll, with a blue dress and blond hair, and pointy ears just like the elves.

"Here it is," he announced, holding it out to Lin for inspection. "Bit old, but in good shape. Will that do?"

"Aww... It's cute," Lin cooed taking the doll.

Maybe she hadn't quite out grown dolls, Lin grinned as she made it dance in front of Miyuki.

"Perfect," Lin looked at Earendil with a twinkle in her eye, "A little birdie told me you liked to play in that little stream in the courtyard."

Miyuki stared at the doll for a moment before reaching out and grabbing it. She stared at it some more, having not seen a thing like it as she tried to make it 'dance' like the way her mommy did.

Earendil chuckled and set Miyuki on the floor to play with the doll. "Indeed?" he murmured, slightly embarrassed. "I recall watching it for hours on end, but not playing in it."

Though he did recall a certain fondness for water, though he had never learned to swim until recently.

"Yup! And another little birdie told me the first time you ever tasted ice, your tongue got stuck to it," Lin replied softly.

She couldn't help it, she thought it was completely adorable, she could understand why her brothers thought it was.

It danced for her too, it was, interesting to Miyuki as she flopped it around.

Earendil chuckled, and his face turned a light shade of pink.

"Now that you bring that up," he murmured, "I vaguely recall getting stuck to something ..."

Well fair was fair, and after all he didn't mind bringing up some things that Lin found embarrassing as well.
