*realises* Oh, yeah. The gate thread, not the weapons thread. Sorry.
OK, what I said above, only about the gates.
SG1 gate first? Pros and cons....

Reading back, here you go: SGC gate pros and cons
Pros - it's the original, it spins, it looks like it's actually dialing something, it steams, the chevrons are carved in relief on it and it has the SGC dialing computer.
Cons - The iris doesn't always stand up to all threats, it requires support clamps to stop the intense shaking it produces when active, it steams (this is also a con because it's the clamps that steam) and it can be overrode with someone else's DHD.

doubt it but seriously the only thing the earth gate has going for it is its symbols and it spins. the smoke isn't even part of it.

All it has going for it is that it has the carved symbols and it spins? Those are two pretty big reasons. What does the Atlantis gate have going for it? Shiny lights?

Integration into the floor instead of support clamps, a forcefield, a proper DHD with the added out-of-galaxy dialing system...

Well, in my opinion, the Iris and the forcefield are pretty much the same thing, except the Iris has a better name, but I will admit that I prefer the integrated into the floor thing better than support clamps.

It's more like "Bring up the shield!" Still sounds cool.

but the iris isn't full proof its more trouble than its worth its failed to do what it was made to do on many occasions. not its fault but still. and heres another thing the shield going up or down sounds more awesome than the iris has does or ever will. and on the big reasons the sgc stargate spins slow and is slow and the carved symbols aren't that big of a deal. thats like making the atlantis gates glowing symbols important.

*scratches head at last sentence*
The iris has had to be replaced once or twice, I know that.
