"it's normally considered rude to ask someones name without introducing yourself, but this place seems full of people who just want answers without considering the best way to get them."

Tamlin felt she pulled off her mother's trick of looking down her nose at the red haired man, despite her sitting position necessitating her to look up at him.

"I however, was not raised without manners, My name is Tamlin Maire Sorcha, and under better circumstances I'd be pleased to make your acquaintance my dear sir."

He didn't know whether to roll his eyes or look at her gape-jawed. What a strange gypsy she was. He thought he might be irritated, but what came out of his mouth was a voice tempered with a small measure of politeness.

"And are you familiar with our legal system at all, ....Ms Sorcha? Or would you like a representative to explain things to you, and aid you in the process?"

Tamlin was pleased to hear someone with a measure of politeness and even willing to be of help, perhaps this fellow wasn't as bad as the others. although she did note he still had not given her his name. but she decided he deserved at least a bit of courtesy.

"An aid would be most helpful; if i had been familiar with the laws around here i probably wouldn't be in this predicament now would I?"

At first she hadn't been quite sure that the man was talking to her, but as she turned, she saw him staring right at her. She sighed inwardly and adjusted Van on her hip again. The mole-boy didn't fidget or say anything, he just sat still staring at the belts. Ki also found herself staring at the belts... it was a lot of belts. "Nice outfit." Then she turned and looked out over the boardwalk with a sigh, this time it was an outward one. "Yeah. I'm traveling with them. But before you try to sell me anything, I don't have any luck, or any money."

He half-smiled, a precursor to his raspy, coarse response. "Thank you. It's a favorite of mine, as well. And no need to worry, I'm selling nothing. I just noticed that you didn't purchase anything at the docks. Nereid Isle isn't a place for the poor, I can tell you that." His voice was rueful and expressed with a bit of a self-depreciating nod that told Ki that he knew well that it wasn't a place for such as them. "I only asked if you were a gypsy because... well, most travellers wouldn't accept the offer of an island tour from a stranger. I've found that gypsies can read people better. They know who to trust."

The boatsman sighed, unamused. "You're being arrested for suspicion of being a thief, if that's in terms enough for you. And talk as you like, we aren't just going to take you at words. We have to take you in, it's for the Cadress to decide. Now...." and he turned to Zak as well, "present your arms for binding, or else we'll support you magically there."

Zak held out his hands infront of him. "you taking him too?" he said jerking his head in the direction of boothman.

"Of course." He spoke the words that wound themselves around Zak's arms, and then he and the beast prodded the man up the boardwalk and into the tall tower building. He didn't set him down on the long cushion, however, but left him standing at the doorway, the doglike creature behind him as a guard. He was close enough to Tamlin and the redheaded servitor that they could clearly see and hear one another.

"I wouldn't know, ma'am. But here," he reached forward and with a word and a touch, dissolved the bond that caused the words to crawl around her wrists. The words walked through the air, back around the servitor's head, and into a back room. It was only a few minutes afterwards that a sweet-faced young woman poked her head out of the room.

"Need me? ...Oh, hello!" She saw Tamlin sitting up against the wall, and poked back into the room. She returned in full a second later with a bit of parchment wrapped on a pegroll sticking out of a wide pocket on the front of the yellow apron she wore.

"This is Ms. Sorcha," the servitor said, "and she needs a representative. Ms Sorcha, this is Peera."

Peera was a short, sunny creature, with hair too thin to curl, but you could tell that she tried. She stuck her hand out to Tamlin. "Nice to meet you." She acted as if she were greeting a friend, rather than someone held on arrest.

Tamlin was pleasantly startled by the friendliness of this individual. "My pleasure, no need for ms. or any of that formality, Tamlin is fine" she responded with a smile as she grasped Peera's hand firmly.

"Its nice to finally meet someone who knows how to be friendly in this town, are you the one to help use get through this mix up?"

He paused and released Lorelei's hand to pat Vanna comfortingly. "do not worry about your mother, child."

" I am Warren Snell. Lorelei, it is imperative that you follow me now"

Vanna squeaked and wiggled, trying to get away from Warren. Lorelei settled on trusting Leax. She needed her sight, after all - she felt on edge. So she pressed Vanna into his arms. "Keep her safe," Lorelei murmured, pressing a blind kiss to Leax's cheek, and then to the top of Vanna's head. Then she turned, pulled off her blindfold, and met Warren's eyes with her one still-functioning one.

She didn't like what she saw, but the man was insistent, and she doubted that she could resist well. She would go along... but run when things started to go south.

Slowly, so followed him.

He looked hard at the child in Leax's care and then nodded a quick farewell to the two. Warren turned his attention back to Lorelei. he held out an arm covered with bells and vials on which to lead her, but was otherwise silent as he guided her towards the city. He was distinctly aware of her anxiety, but other then this simple gesture the strange man made no outward signs as he walked with purpose to his goal with Lorelei in tow.

it wasn't until it began to darken he paused for a moment and spoke, facing her directly. "Do not fear, at least not me, we are going somewhere safe." Warren fell silent for what seemed a long period

he dropped his gaze infinitesimally and spoke again much quieter, almost as if he was speaking to himself "She is growing stronger though, that safety is beginning to ebb"

"But what am I saying!" he burst out with a joviality that was quite unexpected, "I have a lady to lead! Shall we?" as he offered up his arm again in a flurry of bells an clinking vials.

"... She?" Lorelei asked, tilting her head and frowning. "Who do you mean? She is somebody I should fear?" She took his arm, but held tight, trying to stop him enough that he would face her, answer her questions. "What are you talking about?"

--

Meanwhile, Taniel had heard Irina's groans, and had hurried over to the pregnant woman, taking her arm, gently. "We should get you back to one of the wagons," he pressed, gently. "If what he says is true, you really should be lying down."

Warren didn't stop walking, and it was just past twilight now, but he could still see her clearly at this distance. "the woman with the pink jewel"he said very simply and he spoke as if it should has been obvious and then fell silent again.

he increased his pace a bit as they began to get close to his destination the bells and vials clinked in time with his steps and sounding musical to the ear. his footsteps never wavered in their confidence, but his face showed signs of distracted thought and he suddenly spoke again, his voice cutting through the bells. "No, no fear for you, you are an adult, only the children need to be fearful."

Irina heard a voice behind her and someone taking her arm. It was a boy she had seen before, but yet, she couldn't seem to remember his name. She was sure they'd never been formally introduced, but at this point, she didn't care. She just needed a hand.

Breathing deeply, she nodded. "I think you're right," she said on a forced outward breath. "We should get back to my wagon...Do you know if anyone in the caravan knows how to deliver a baby?" She tried not to convey her fear through her eyes. Surely someone knew how to deal with this. They did have a lot of children in the caravan, but Irina wasn't sure how many of them had been born naturally.

Looking over to Eerie and Kal, she gave them a weak smile in an attempt to be comforting. "It'll be okay, we'll just go back to the wagon, okay?"

Eerie nodded and watched as Taniel took his mother's hand. Kal brought up the rear as they attempted to make their way back toward the wagon.

"Is Vanna safe, away from me? Is she safe where she is?"

"I'm not sure, quite honestly. I believe a few of the other women have had children or have assisted before, but I wouldn't know which ones. I can soothe the pain, though, if it will help."

Taniel led her slowly back to the wagon, careful not to push her too fast. "If the pain gets bad, tell me. I will sing for you. Do you have cloths that we can use to clean up the afterbirth?"

He may have been male and unmarried, never to be a father, but he had heard of and seen women giving birth before. He knew the basics, at the very least.

"there is danger, but not immediately i think, but for now i need you to continue on with me."

They had reached a graveyard just outside the, the moon in the evening darkness cast a pure and calm light over the grounds and in the middle stood a white marble mausoleum. Warren led Lorelei up to the building and it became apparent that it was no longer white, but age had allowed ivy and moss to climb up the walls and time has warn away the rough edges.

"ah, at last our destination."

She shook her head again. "It's just that most people don't offer things without getting something in return... unless this is some gypsy mystic thing-ie... In case you couldn't tell, I don't really take naturally to the whole Gypsy thing, so I'm not sure I can help you get whatever it is that you want." She paused and then nodded. That was what she meant to say... wasn't it?

Lorelei's skin goosebumped in fear, and she stopped, shaking her head. "This- I'm not sure I can trust you-" Why would he have brought her to a graveyard, at night, lest it be for some sacrifice? She shook her head - this wasn't a fairy story! But still, she had to be careful.

"I won't come any closer until you tell me what is going on. Why are we here?"
