"We'll have to spend at the very least one." James interjected, "But you're right. Spending more nights in the Great Plains than is necessary should definitely be avoided. To town then?"

James made a move to walk in that direction, obviously already feeling better despite his battle with the T-Rexaur just a day ago. If he were to remove the bandages right there, they would question him severely. Now was not the time for them to know more, though. All information would come in time. That was an unwritten rule of his own. All information would come in time.

"It may be a dump," James rattled on more to himself than anyone else, "But it will supply us with what we need."
PostPosted: Sat Aug 18, 2007 1:31 am

Rainer frowned slightly, staring at James' retreating back. She started to follow, easily balancing on the sharp rocks she had tread since she was born. Her thick boots kept her feet from harm. Her pants would protect her from rare falls.

Silent, Rainer fell into step slightly to the side and behind James, still watching him. He seemed to be moving better; his wounds were obviously not bothering him anymore. Her brows furrowed slightly over her white-gold eyes, but she remained silent.

"James," she started, disliking the silence of the others, "I need to find a Behemoth. I need two energy crystals to upgrade my weapon." Her frown deepened. Behemoths were hard to come by, and it was even harder to find one that carried an energy crystal, much less two. Rainer sighed and flexed her hands. Nevertheless, she had to try. Her weapon, a model called Coroleas, was severely outdated.

||OoC: Kudos to anyone who knows where the word "Coroleas" comes from! ^_^||

Mimi stood and waited for the others to move on before turning to the vehicle garage. Walking through one of the doors made for technicians, Mimi stopped in front of a counter and rang one of the bells.

A scruffy man, wide around the mid-riff and shoulders stepped out, wiping oily hands on a dirty rag. "Can I help . . . Mimi!"

Mimi smiled at the older man, whose hair was graying and whose face was becoming lined with wrinkles. "Long time no see, Arthur."

The man laughed and sat down behind the counter. "I know. How's the trade going?"

"It's going, that's all I can say."

He laughed and suddenly the atmosphere became solemn. "So why're you leaving the vehicle here with me this time."

There was a pause before Mimi spoke. "We're going to Esthar. That's all I can say. But . . . take care of the transport for me, okay?"

Arthur nodded before running his fingers along the counter. "You know, his son came to visit me the other day. He was asking about you, asking about Galbadia. I don't know what happened between the two of you, but . . . well, you should go visit them. Both of them."

Mimi had started heading out, but she stopped to look back. "I'll see what I can do. Until I get back, okay?"

Arthur smiled. "Until then." Mimi headed out, leaving Arthur to his mechanics. The transport was in safe hands. Now, she made her ways towards the somewhat run-down town. The others had probably already made there way towards an inn by now.

((Okay...this is the quickest method I could concoct of having my character enter, and possibly run into everyone else. Crappy introductory post, too...*sigh* xD Please bear with me))

The breaking dawn drew Esthar's clusters of aquamarine skyscrapers and its curving, serpent-like roads into an iridescent sheen of jasper, like blades of metallic daggers carving through the thick, densely populated air. The expanse of humans traversing the streets in thick throngs to go to their day-jobs nearly rivaled the clusters of buildings in sheer numbers; everything smelled of rust and iron in the morning's dying dew, and the sharpness of it, as well as the loud crescendos of human voices caused Amara to wrinkle her nose and wince in mild frustration.

Galbadia was nothing like this...militaristic and dangerous, perhaps, yet despite the copious bloodshed, at least the nation had a sense of retaining decibels.

Raven hair streaked through with a startlingly bold shade of crimson flickered in the rising sun's glare like fire; she continued to wince, her lip curling in distaste as the golden light adamantly sought after attacking her poor irises while she made her way towards her newly assigned Garden. The olive-skinned girl's eyes themselves shone like miniature suns, as if she were possessed by the astral body itself; hazel yet leaning towards a peculiar coloring of liquidated gold, magnified by the onslaught of daylight.

As she tilted her head down towards the variously plodding pairs of shoes surrounding her and the rare slivers of metal road beneath her own feet, Amara kept her now-darker yellow eyes towards a wrinkled and torn piece of paper within her hands. Almost instantly, as the crowd about her began to rapidly recede and her gaze, kindling with bright excitement, lingered upon a miniature black "X" situated within the paper's center...

Amara's gaze hardened into that of void disbelief. The tail of her scarlet duster flapped in a forlorn tandem to the wind which curled about her slight frame, her waist-length locks a sea of bloodied black behind her. She stood still as a dark statue, her ebony brows knitted in a torrent of confusion; people passed by, oblivious to her still body as her golden gaze desperately flitted to and fro, her head turning rapidly side to side. The raven-haired Galbadian brought a palm to the tops of her eyes as she strained to catch the merest trace of the building in question, famed to be seen easily between the jutting hilltops and snowy peaks at this very spot against the arching roads...

Esthar Garden was nowhere to be seen.

Amara's cat-like eyes were protuberant as she growled beneath her breath at the vast expanse of empty space the Garden would have filled; yet she struggled to regain her bewildered composure just as quickly as it had faltered. She was not a a fool; she knew the Gardens were situated in such a way to defend itself from any mere passersby with mobility, and quite obviously this Garden had used such features...

But wouldn't it be kind of them to at least have informed their newest transfer student?

Despite her mind's attempt at dry humor, Amara had always known something was going wrong of late. Call it a gut feeling, or perhaps something of peculiar intuition...yet transferring from Galbadia to Esthar, the enemy of her native-born country, had been much too smooth and easy a transition (save for her current predicament in which the Garden itself had left her behind...). Amara seemed to be the only SeeD noticing such behavior of late...and, by the way things looked, she was going to be stranded for quite some time before being able to continue any sort of investigation.

Sighing, the girl curled her gloved fingers into fists and crossed them over her arms.

Diablo hissed within the depths of her mind; wrapped the sudden, soothing warmth of its mental touch against her bones, as if her innards were the guest of a dual soul. Because of this contact, she calmed her nerves again quite quickly, never being one to hold a constant bad temper or grudge. Almost apathetically the naturally quiet girl strode across the streets nearby, with the intent of taking at least a little break within the strange city before setting out to seek the ranks of the undoubtedly even stranger Garden (with what she had seen in this country already, who could doubt its school's inhabitants could be equally eccentric?). After all, there may be a few SeeDs strewn across the dense crowds nearby; and although she wasn't one for extreme socialization, and highly doubted this assumption, Amara thought it fruitless to navigate the surrounding area herself, especially since she hadn't the faintest clue where to begin in such a place.

It was turning out to be an interesting day indeed.

((I am so sorry everyone! I really enjoy this Role Play, but I have absolutely no guaranteed internet access and I probably won't for quite some time. If you need to replace me in the Role Play so that it can keep going, I understand. If you can possibly put the Role Play on hold until I can guarantee myself some time, that would be even better! Icarii, feel free to do what you need to to James to get him out of the way. Go find your Behemoth and have James disappear or something. That would work, wouldn't it?

Hoping to be back soon!

||I'll just drag him along some how. Don't worry. ^_^||

Rainer frowned again as she headed into town. James was quiet, and she didn't know what to make of it. Mimi had gone ahead to talk to some people, and Isaac seemed in his own little world. Rainer wandered about the small town, if you could call it that. There had to be an inn somewhere. Just as Rainer thought this, a small building came into view. It was constructed of old wood, rotting in some places. Wrinkling her nose and leading James and Isaac into the building, she walked up to the counter and smiled at the older man behind it.

"Two rooms, please," she said politely. Isaac and James could share a room, and she and Mimi could share a room. Not exactly the Galbadia Hotel, but it would have to do.

The man smiled and nodded, reaching behind the desk to grab two keys. He scribbled something down on a pad of paper and told her, "Okay, Miss, there're two doors to the right of this here hall. Those are your rooms." He started to give her a stern look. "Look, I don't want no trouble from you or any of your friends, y'hear?" Rainer gave him a skeptic look but nodded anyway. She took the keys from his hand, giving one to Isaac, and headed toward her room. She'd get some rest before heading out to try and find a Behemoth or five.

Isaac had dismissed his thoughts on Rainer's sudden change of heart in Balamb. It could wait. He grabbed James' wrist as he took the key and would have dragged him to the room if he couldn't walk. When they were inside, he quickly told James to rest for the majority of their stay.

"I don't want to see you up until all of that is totally healed or you can move with the slightest bit of pain. I have a feeling you're gonna need every ounce of strength you can get." He smiled and raised an index finger to wag it in his face. "I will see you later." He sprinted right out the door and locked James in. That way he had to listen. The keep had already said not to cause trouble, and busting down a door of window would be trouble. He smiled to himself as he walked outside and swung up onto the roof of the inn. He would wait for Mimi and think about what had been going on a little more now.

Rainer sighed and stretched out on her bed. It was about a foot too short for her, but it was better than grass and dirt. She would live. As she lay there, Rainer's hand drifted to her blade. Before laying down, she had unbuckled it and placed it on the bed next to her. Now, she traced her gloved fingers over the blade and wondered idly what the remodel would look like. And if it needed two energy crystals... well, all she could think was that it had better be the last time she upgraded her weapon.

Finally, she got up and left her room. Hopefully, she'd find Mimi so Mimi would be able to get to the room. Instead, she saw Isaac alone.

"Hey Isaac," she said cheerfully. "Where's James?" She looked around. "Well, you wanna come with me to find a Behemoth? Truth be told, I don't think I can fight one by myself." Grimacing, Rainer continued, "And I'm kinda scared of these stupid Sorceress powers."

Isaac hardly noticed Rainer, he was so deep in thought. He shook his head and looked up, though Rainer was below him. He looked down then and said "Sure, I'll tell you what I did with James on the way. But hold on." He jumped down and re-entered the inn. He told the keep to ask should a woman with a large sword came in if her name was Mimi. He was then told should she answer yes or something of a suspicious nature that she be told Isaac is staying there. He figured she would know. Isaac left the inn and waited besides Rainer. "Shall we?" As they began their search for a Behemoth, he told her what he did with James.

Rainer waited patiently for Isaac to exit the inn. As they walked to the outskirts of the village, she smiled slightly.

"Well, I'm glad you made him rest," she said, kicking at the rocks on the ground. Rainer casually drew her sword, liking the familiar weight of the blade. She hefted it and continued. "Although he looked okay, I was kinda worried about him."

Soon, they were about a mile out of the village. An Imp flew by overhead, not caring about the two travelers beneath it. Rainer frowned up at the thing but did not attack. She would have to save her energy for a Behemoth. The only thing she feared in these plains was Malboros. A shiver ran down her spine. It could mean trouble if they ran into one.

"So," Rainer said, trying to pass the time, "What kind of fighting style do you use? I haven't really seen you fight yet."

Isaac didn't speak directly after Rainer asked which style he used. He was unsure as to what to call it. He had taken many different styles and mixed them together. He also tended to go with what he saw was open and find some way to build off it. Like knocking someone to the ground then stomping on them only to reach down and form a wheel with their two bodies. He would rock back and forth until they started moving to eventually stop and fling them into the air. Most of the time he watched them fall, other times he jumped up and beat them back down. “Well, it’s complicated… It’s not really a style. It’s composed of many. I haven’t recognized the style you use.. But I believe I’ve only really seen you fight when you were possessed.”

Rainer shifted uncomfortably as Isaac brought up her possession. She still wasn't comfortable with the idea of someone possessing her and making her do horrible things to friends. The whole thing was kind of hazy, and Rainer could only remember a gunblade shattering into a million tiny pieces... And that was it. Nothing else.

"Well," she said amiably, "I suppose we'll both find out soon enough."

_______________________________________________________________________________

Meanwhile, Leagh contemplated in her room in Galbadia Garden. The girl was heading toward Esthar, and was contemplating removing her Sorceress Powers. Leagh hissed in hate. If her powers were removed by technology, then Azhure's powers would be gone forever. Leagh could not have that. Especially because of Azhure.

Now, as she materialized in the Great Plains of Esthar, she scowled. Leagh had no idea how she was to transfer Azhure's power from Rainer back to Azhure, but she would have to try. Again, a memory of a man named James plagued her. Leagh banished it. She would give the girl back her stupid memories, just so she wouldn't have to remember them for Rainer.

Tilting her head back, Leagh let her power flow about her. All monsters for miles caught the energy and scurried away as quickly as possible. Their instincts screamed at them to flee, and so flee they did.

Soon, Leagh had a lock on Rainer. A smile crept across her face, though it was devoid of humor.

____________________________________________________________________________

Rainer frowned and peered into the horizon. A small cloud of dust was materializing, and the amount made her nervous. She quickly edged closer to Isaac.

"What do you think that is?" Rainer asked nervously, her hand gripping her gunblade tightly. Finally, she drew it out, pulling it into a defensive stance.

The cloud of dust quickly thickened and neared Rainer and Isaac. Rainer put up a hand and placed it over her eyes, shading her face as she got a look at what was coming toward them. Slowly, her white-gold eyes widened as she realized what it was.

It was a stampede. Monsters of every kind that inhabited the Great Plains of Esthar were galloping right toward them. Imps, Malboros, Behemoths, Iron Giants, Toramas...

"Crap," she whispered. Frightened, she unconsciously called on her Sorceress power and immediately, a barrier formed itself around Rainer and Isaac, repellling the beasts. For an instant, Rainer was relieved. Then she realized that Behemoths aplenty were roaring past her, and she realized several held Energy Stones in their maws. Without thinking, Rainer stepped out of the barrier into the path of a large Behemoth, carrying two stones. Rainer's mouth curled into a smile.

"Perfect," she breathed. Slowly, the barrier around Isaac grew until it engulfed Rainer and the confused and terrified Behemoth.

The rest of the monsters scurried past, taking no notice of the two humans and the Behemoth. Rainer, not taking her eyes from the Behemoth, said to Isaac,

"Well, Isaac, let's prove ourselves today, shall we?"

"Okay. But shouldn't you be more concerned with the thing making them run like this? All of the fiends don't stampede together for no reason." Isaac was a little worried about Rainer now, sensing a strange vibe from Rainer. Alexander gave a signal to Isaac as well, feeling a horrible energy. Isaac figured it was Rainer, worrying even more. "Rainer..." Isaac drew his knives and prepared a cure spell incase the cornered Behemoth struck one of them.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 26, 2007 7:13 pm

Rainer frowned, but watched the Behemoth warily. The monster was tearing at the walls of the barrier, mad with fear. Pretty soon it would figure out there was no escape and turn on the two humans within the barrier.

"I never thought of that," she muttered at Isaac. Siren sang softly to Rainer in her mind, soothing her. Rainer relaxed her hold on her gunblade and stared at the monster. What was wrong with it and the other monsters? They didn't run from humans.

Furrowing her brow, Rainer again tightened her grip on her gunblade and readied herself. The Behemoth would notice them any second now, and...

Suddenly, a flash of white light blinded all three. Rainer cried out in pain and closed her eyes and flew up an arm to protect her eyes, but still the light was too bright. Finally, the light faded. Blinking tears of pain from her eyes, Rainer looked up and saw that the Behemoth lay before them, dead. The barrier was gone. Rainer gulped nervously and looked around. No one in sight. She took a step forward and stepped on something. Looking down, Rainer saw that it was the two Energy Crystals. She quickly picked them up and stuffed them in her small pack. When she looked up, a Sorceress stood before her, elegant and cold. Rainer gasped and took an involuntary step backward. This woman... she looked familiar. Then she remembered: The Sorceress in her head, the one who stole her memory!

Rainer scowled.

"What are you doing here?" she grated out.

Leagh smiled. The humor did not reach her glittering white-gold eyes.

"I just saved you from a maddened Behemoth. Shouldn't you be more thankful?"

Rainer bore her teeth and lunged at the Sorceress. Leagh put up a hand and a barrier materialized and blasted Rainer back. Rainer fell back with a shout and was up again, eyes blazing. Her eyes, though they were now white-gold, started to darken into the familiar green.

Leagh sighed, bored. Shifting her weight to one leg, she lifted her hand once more and pointed at Rainer. Rainer fell to the ground, white hair fluttering out behind her. Green started to invade the white of her hair, starting from the roots and creeping to the ends. Leagh frowned. That coulnd't be good. Best to get this over with. Leagh twisted her hand and Rainer was immediately unconscious. Grinning, Leagh turned to Isaac.

"Who are you, boy?" she said, her voice dangerously low.

Isaac had been about to get the jump on the Behemoth when he was blinded by the light. Twisting around to stand back up from his crouch he was in awe at the sorceress. As she asked her question with disdain easily detectable in her voice. He answered in kind, "None of your business! Now go away! You have no business here and you are upsetting the ecosystem!" Isaac ignored her as he walked to Rainer, his hands glowing white with holy energy. "Cure." Isaac thought as he knelt down beside her and placed a hand on her forehead and stomach. "Come on... At least wake up... I can't fight her alone." He stood back up next to her, awaiting the likely attack of the sorceress and to let the cure work. If she got up great, if not he would have to battle the sorceress alone until he had a decent 'Life' built up.
