"Well Hello there, Jerrar, is it? I speak words of wisdom from a diviner that new of our coming from the outside world! She told us that the Demons would over run the city in just a few hours!!!! And it took a few hours for us to get here! We don't have any time! they could be upon us any second!! You must listen to me!"
At the same Gerbo was speaking to the man he flared his arcane power hoping the mage would feel his presence.

as the mage brushed against him, Regal stuck his arm out and grabed his shoulder.
"Hey there"
He said in a quite voice.
"Why are you trying to gain control of the palace? We might be able to help you, if you think you can stop the demons."

The mage shakes his shoulder free of Regal's grasp. "It's not the palace I'm worried about, and not its underground fortifications either. I need to safeguard the Emperor's Crystal."
He pauses, sees the lack of understanding in your eyes. "If you're not familiar with magical artifacts you won't know why the demons are so keen on getting it and I don't have time to go into the technical details. Suffice it to say that the thing decides the course of battles in the hands of a competent commander, and Jerrar intends to let it finish recharging and use it to break the coming siege once the demons commit their forces."
He turns to leave, then turns back thoughtfully. "Your small friend said this facility was in immediate danger? How did you come about this information? It is of no matter, actually... If you're willing to help me, I may yet be able to save the crystal, though I am not so sure of Jerrar."

Jerrar is either blind to magical auras or antipathic towards magic users in general (though you get the feeling that it's something of both...), but either way he doesn't respond to your magical aura.
"My miniature compatriot, this city is impenetrable, and besides that the demons are far from its walls. Rest assured that when the time comes I shall see to it that they are broken and defeated in detail. You would do well to join up with a town guard unit; I'm certain they would appreciate someone of your enthusiasm."
"Anyway, I must be off! I have some preparations to see to, and likewise need to see to it that the mages don't interfere with them..."

"So then if we help you with this crystal saving business, then would you be keen on helping in our quest?"
Changing his tone to an even lower volume, Regal leaned close.
"We are here for the famed flying Airship known as the 'Albetross'."

Seeing as how the brutish man wasn't going to help him any, Gerbo turned his attention to Regal and the Mage. Approching them slowly, he jumped into the conversation.
"I know this because a great diviner came to us... said that we still had time and that we were early. She said in meer hours this entire city will be destroyed!"
He listened to regal for a moment as he spoke.
"Ah yes! I will help you, if it means saving a precious magical artifact! One of my statis in the magical community could not ever pass up such an oppertunity. And if by chance we happen to save this kightly fellow too, then we can't complain, though thats not our primary focus at all."

"Hmmmm... Diviners, airships, and sneak attacks. I believe you are sincere; the demon blood has a way of lingering."
He motions for you to follow him, and starts walking towards the grand wizard tower in the city. "I am afraid that detailed planning will be impossible as even I know little of the important areas of the complex; only very loyal, very elite troops are allowed in the inner sanctums. The only important part is that the demons not capture the crystal, and hopefully we retain it to use it in a counter-attack later."
"I suggest that we wait in safety until the attack is underway. Where will the attack be coming from? In the confusion we will likely be able to slip into an entrance some distance from the fight."

"Alas, all of my good equipment and spells were requisitioned and are being used by warriors and battle mages defending the city. Likely a good many of them are clustered in the complex, so we may have a chance to pick up some of the good ones there."
After some walking you arrive at the tower. "Now we wait. If the entire city is to fall, I think I had best get my people packing. The bones foretold woe this morning, so I do not think it will take much to get everyone started."
With what little you know you may attempt to plan your course of action or undertake whatever preparations you wish. Or we can assume your characters spend what time they have mentally preparing themselves, and we can get to some demon thrashing.

Regal then started sharpening his sword.
"I haven't even had a chance to clean off the old demon blood yet."

"Well now you can clean it off with the blod of new demons my friend! Yes perhaps we should just have a simple plan like that.. too many things can happen that we can't possibly plan for."
Gerbo said in a serious tone.
"Lets just rest a bit... and EAT!!"
Gerbo said stuffing pratically a whole ham down his gullet after summoning it into exsistance.

Yes we help secure the crystal, fight back the demons, and then see about getting our hands on that ship.
Oh and Gerbo could you whip up one of those hams for me too?
