At the nudge, she'd look to him, and lift her muzzle towards the air...she smelt it as well. Smirking, she'd nuzzle into him. "Yes, lets hurry...We all need to start on dens before it snows again."

((Augh, sorry Nik, my cousin decided right after you left that it would be a jollygood time to shut off the server. >< Posting now.)) Devvyl barked and picked up the pace. They were almost there. The body of water grew nearer and the smell grew stronger, and soon enough a lake came into view, a paper-thin layer of ice stretching out across it. Devvyl looked around. The trees were thick in this area, keeping most of the snow off the ground. What little snow there was on the ground barely covered the pine needles and leaf litter on the forest floor. Split up, he called out. Go in groups of two or three and scout the area out. If you find somehing interesting, find Selia or I.He and his mate loped around the perimeter of the small lake, and found that it was part of a large river, most probably the same one they'd lived near since puphood. Further south, the river was framed by a tall hill, which sloped down away from the river and formed a sort of tiny valley. Looks like a great place for dens, he told Selia with wolven grin. ((Kay, if you don't get that last paragraph, then yer stoopid. xd No, just joking. If you don't get it, here's a crappy pic I took two seconds to draw in Photoshop with a mouse. So don't laugh at me. >> ))

((OMG ART. xd ))
Aoiko barked back in aknowledgment to the alpha, and headed off along with Soul torward the lightly frozen river, remaining carefully off the ice. It didn't seem tick enough to walk on, and better safe than sorry. The adolecent padded into the snow, following the river down a little furter south, looking up for anything worth noting.

Soul looked to Aoiko, her nose flareing slightly in excitment. this was the most amazing thing she had ever done. she sniffed slightly at the ice under her, and then yipped picking up her pace to keep up with the alpha.

They arrived behind the others, but the smells had driven the three to hurry ahead.
Hige looked around the area with building spirits. He thought that he could hear excitement from Devvyl's tone. ((Only 'thought', if it's not there then no worries, ^^; trying to avoid any autoing of charas I don't have an okay on.))
The trip hadn't been very long, but the end results were worth-while all the same. Devvyl and Selia had found their pack a home! (Not that Hige ever doubted they would, mind you. wink )
Trees, a thick cannopy sheltering most of the forest floor from the dancing snowflakes. There was more than enough room for them all, and an ample water supply... It was perfect for their needs! He was already looking over trees to see which might make the most suitable dens, but his ears twitched to instant attention at his alphas call.
Starting off in the opposite direction that Aoiko and Soul had gone, Hige stopped and shot a lupine grin back over his shoulder to his mate and adopted younger brother. Beckoning. "Well, come on, what are we waiting for?"

Staring around at all the excitement, Loki wondered if she would live through all the wonderment of a real home. Everywolf was running, sniffing, digging and drinking - getting prepared for the task ahead, digging out dens. At Hige's beckon, she gained a new energy. Shooting off like a rocket, she followed him to find the perfect place for their den, giving small yips as she flew.

The gamma barked out a call to his mate and Thayne. They'd take a look around and report back to Selia and Devvyl, but Hige was certainly eager to run. He backtracked to Thayne again and pushed his cold nose into his side, into his thick black fur coat and snuffed. He gave the pup a playful push. His tail was wagging furiously as though he were still a pup, or even an adolescent. Lifting his large head away from the young one, a loud bark sounded again a few times from his maw, backing up and running a tight circle with dancing eyes. "Come on!"
With his urged invitation, the brown adult whirled forward again and began at a trot, leaving room for Thayne to keep up. He'd have a chance to grow up strong here, with a good, large, strong pack to support him. Maybe Loki had even already taken to him like a sister, or a mother... Seemed like it...
The thought brought a wolven smile to Hige's muzzle.
So, he kept his nose open to the scents and his ears to the sounds. He could smell Loki and Thayne behind him, and ahead were the smells of aged wood and faint scent of pine needles. He could also smell the scents of small woodland creatures that had taken off at the first scent of wolves.
There wasn't much sound, as there was no whistling wind. His ears could certainly decipher the sounds of squirrels resting secure in their tree-bound nests. His ears twitched attentive to every sound, prepared even now for a surprise attack, maybe by another wolf, or a bear. He didn't know yet that the great beasts hibernated during the season of cold. There was a soft trickling sound, very small. He'd barely picked it up, but he had, and he was willing to bet that was why he smelt water.
He pushed forward, heading for the thicker treeline. In the back of his mind he wondered how far they were supposed to go... He felt like they were all a part of something important... ~Well, we ARE supposed to scout the area.~
He could smell water ahead, and he glanced back over his shoulder to see how Thayne and Loki were keeping up. "I think there's something up ahead," He wuffed....
... and idly slipped from sight.
There was the source. There was a very small stream running through a clearing that was maybe seven trees wide. It was shaped oddly, (think of a long sand trap on a golf course, kidney bean shaped.) and there was a large fallen log in the center blanketed by soft moss. It smelt old. It must have been a mighty tree, fallen where it once stood. The hollowed out stump directly by the log was testiment to that. Wood-bugs (TERMITES!) seemed to have eaten out the insides. The stream obviously ran from the far end of lake and through the trees, curling past the log on it's natural path, past some rocks. It hadn't frozen over due to it's constant motion. It would make for a convinient drinking source.
It would certainly make a nice place to rest and play, and the sunlight would filter through the clear patch in the the warmer months. Right now, though, it was cold due to snowfall, and it wouldn't make a suitable home. Their pack would probably be glad to have this place all the same though. The mothers or pup-sitters could watch the little ones here and still be within the haven of the pack's territory.
He stared hard at the fallen giant.... there was someting tugging at the back of his mind....
He could see this clearing, but without the stream, and larger.... there were flowers, and healthy grass, and a log just like this.
Was it a memory of his first pack's territory...?

Thayne followed Hige to the stream, caught up in the excitement of new territory. He took a leap from a small hill and jumped on his pack-brother's tail with a "mighty" growf. His tongue lolled with pleasure as he romped about Hige, sniffing the ground. The wood was old, musty and comfortable, although the scent did make him sneeze initially.
He leapt up on the log carefully, hoping it wouldn't spill him back onto the ground, and slowly trotted across, looking back at Hige and Loki to make sure they were still there.

Loki watched Hige run to and fro between trees and bushes as she ran with him, trying her best to keep up. She felt weak and frail suddenly, and had no clue why. When he disappeared she panicked for a moment, then followed his scent into the treeline. Stopping suddenly, held in the magnificent beauty of the clearing he had found, she approached him, and licked his cheek affectionately. "Love you" she mrrrr'd

With a soft buff of surprise Hige averted his attention to the black, gray, and red pup. Thayne had managed to shake the older wolf out of his thoughts.
Yeah, this place would be perfect for the pups to play in. The grass probably grew lush thanks to the stream.
Hige's eyes grinned contently, tail resuming it's wag. He shook out his fur of the last of the moisture the melted snow had left, giving a deep-throated 'wuff' at Thayne.
He was just about to engage the pup in a game of wrestling when he felt a 'kiss' on his cheek, and again Hige's attention was diverted.
He mrr'ed a happy response, tail wagging again. He turned his head so he could return the favor to Loki. He pushed his head against hers affectionately, then looking at Thayne with a promise of play a little bit later on. He could guess the pup was probably just as excited if not more so- as the rest of them, and eager to expend some energy. "Hey, let's go tell Selia and Devvyl what we've found, then I'll dig us out a den."
~And Loki can finally get some decent rest.~

Loki nodded, hearing Hige. Though he sounded as if he was speaking through water, or a barral. She nodded again, her ears hurt now, and she wobbled on her feet. She took one step towards her mate... "Hige.." she breathed before crumpling to the ground with a whine.

For a second, everything stopped.
One moment she'd been moving closer, the next everything came to a sudden screeching hault.
He didn't hesitate in shouting her name, startled. They could probably hear the males alarmed yowl. "Loki!!"
Her body felt limp as he pushed his muzzle under hers, whining. Her eyes had closed, making Hige panic terribly at first.
"Loki, don't go to sleep!!"
Snow shoved suddenly aside, the gamma wedging his body underneath that of his mate's, easing her onto his back.
She was still breathing... thank the stars. She didn't really weigh very much compared to him, he'd have no trouble getting her back to the rest of the pack. He barked a- "Let's go, Thayne...!" to his pack brother and the two of them headed back to the group, Loki on Hige's back.
A soft growling noise came from his throat, unbeknownst to Hige. He had to go slowly so as not to loose her, and each step felt like he was condeming her to possible death. What if she was sick?! They should have rested! He should have insisted!
He barked once, twice, three times for good measure to announce they're return, and finally they emerged from the trees.

-where am I...- Suddenly Loki found herself... somewhere different. Suddenly her head didn't hurt, she didn't feel like clawing her ears off. It was springtime, everything was different to her now. -What happened, this.. this looks..- she stopped mid sentance, and inhaled sharply. She smelled her home. She smelled.. her family. An increasing sense of worry came over her now. Where was Hige.. and Thayne, and the rest of the pack. Where was the snow and the clearing.. where. Things quickly started spinning around her, making her dizzy. She felt as though she would throw up, and leant her head down to eat some of the lush green grass but only met her lips with ash. She quickly raised her head to see everything black, the trees were smoldering, flames were licking at her now, singeing her fur. The smell was intolerable, making her nausiated again. She whined and craned her lean neck to the sky letting loose an echoing howl.. calling for her mate to save her from this hell.

The alpha male's ears perked at a sound... was that Hige? He leapt at the sound of his agonized wail, running at full speed toward the sound... to find Loki on the ground, seemingly unconscious (I don't want to say she's unconscious cuz I don't know that she is... is she? o.o).
He looked to Hige, whose stricken expression mirrored Devvyl's. What happened?

Hige had just settled Loki on the ground again, having returned to the original area that the pack had found. He lowered his head next to hers again and tried waking her. ~Come on Loki, open your eyes!~
He wasn't sure what to do.
She needed him, and he couldn't do anything!
He looked at Devvyl with pained eyes, trying to hide his panic. "We found a clearing, we were about to come back when she just collapsed all of the sudden."
