No, I haven't. sweatdrop TBH, I'm a pretty casual anime viewer. Not to mention that very few series make the cut for me, as I can't stand series that exist solely for providing fanbois/girls with mindless fap fodder (read: Ikki Tousen, Godannar, Maburaho...). And I don't DL. All my stuff's on DVD, all the more reason for me to be highly selective.

Oh, and I finished Now and Then today, 'twas excellent. I would recommend it to anyone, but be aware that it's probably not safe to watch with kids - blood, genocide, slavery, torture, rape, and children soldiers.

LOL, Ikkitousen is pretty entertaining when you get past the fact that there's a buttload of fanservice. biggrin
And since the very last episode never aired, it was sorta left in a cliffhanger - WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THE LAST EPISODE HAD MADE THE CUT!?

Dark_Mana And since the very last episode never aired, it was sorta left in a cliffhanger - WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THE LAST EPISODE HAD MADE THE CUT!? I wouldn't know. I watched two eps online and was like, "s**t sux."
I try to evaluate anime by the same criteria I use for film and TV series. I.e. anime gets no weeaboo brownie points from me just for being anime. Consequently, I end up discarding most series outright, and finding significant faults in many.

Shadowlit Facade Oh, and I finished Now and Then today, 'twas excellent. I would recommend it to anyone, but be aware that it's probably not safe to watch with kids - blood, genocide, slavery, torture, rape, and children soldiers. Sounds right up my alley. Might have to check it out. Also, I forgot about Spirited Away, that one was pretty good. Also watched The Girl Who Leapt Through Time since I last visited this thread, it's a tad on the cheesy side, but time travel and sci fi-ish, so it was kinda cool. I've been into the sci fi lately... not just anime, been watching up on movies and series too.

It really has a lot more in common with Grave of the Fireflies than brainless action bloodbaths.

I like DeathNote, Trigun, and Bleach the most. Deathnote had an epic conflict between two exact opposite forces (Light and Ryuzaki), and Trigun had a very controversial ethical dilemma running through the entire thing. Oh, and Bleach was just awesome. Other than that though, I really haven't been introduced to much anime/mangas. I did have an opportunity to read the Hellsing Manga books though, and those were pretty interesting.

Volvy but. . . but. . . mindless violence is so satisfying ninja It certainly is, but it doesn't have any place in an ostensibly serious narrative.

I did have an opportunity to read the Hellsing Manga books though, and those were pretty interesting. Death Note was pretty entertaining and the anime is made to be quite true to the manga, which you should also check out. I liked the manga better, but mostly because I have some anime episodes with horrendously bad subs. D:
Bleach is good, when you actually get to see the story instead of these stupid a** fillers that last for 10289731984 episodes. You manage to almost forget about the actual story because the fillers last for so many months! I was sad that Ulquiorra died just a few episodes back. I liked his angsty emo-ness. <3
If you get a chance, do read the Hellsing manga. It is really really good. I think I've mentioned before in this thread, but Hellsing manga > Hellsing anime (that has a totally different story compared to the manga) > Hellsing OVA (which is true to the manga). The anime isn't true to the manga, because it was made before the manga started coming out. It's only 13 episodes that aired in 2001. When the manga started coming out with a different story, they started making these OVAs that were based on the manga. The drawing and animation styles are totally different compared to the original anime, which is why I don't like the newer OVAs. I think I should try and download them someday though, to see how true they are to the manga storyline.
And during my utter boredom I've already managed to re-watch Basilisk (awesome, but better as a manga), Death Note and Fruits Basket (utter cuteness and gay innuendo probably aimed at girl fans). The next anime I'm going to re-watch is FullMetal Alchemist. =o

The next anime I'm going to re-watch is FullMetal Alchemist. =oI agree on the Hellsing comment about the Manga being better than the Anime, in which the Anime is also better than the OVAs. I first started off with the Anime, and I thought it was mostly pretty cool (aside from a lot of dry/boring parts). Then after that I went onto the OVA. The OVA, however, was only good toward the beginning of it in my opinion. Otherwise, I really think Alucard's character was completely overblown, as he was depicted too much as being outright "evil" and sadistic rather than shaded and mysterious while at the same time still giving hints toward a slightly twisted disposition, like he was in the anime. In fact, I find a lot of the characters' personalities were overblown in the OVA (at least in comparison to the Manga/Anime). So to sum it all up, I really lost a lot of interest in Hellsing entirely until I was introduced to the manga. The manga reminded me of why I even liked it in the first place, and it also had scenes in it that paired up with the OVA, but, unlike the OVA, it didn't seem to completely ruin most of the main characters. As for Bleach, I only saw the first season of it, and so far I'm kind of oblivious to the existence of any long series of "fillers." for the most part, I find the show to be pretty entertaining. It has a bunch of really weird/humorous plot-twists in it, which I find to be a pretty great addition to the Anime. I also re-watched the entire season of Death Note as well. That show interested me far too much for me not to watch it again. XD
