Proudly_Jewish Jewish; there is a G-d, and only 1 G-d. Just out of curiosity, perhaps you can answer this for me... I know Jews have a law against speaking the name of God, but the word "God" isn't the name of God itself, so why write it as "G-d"? I'm not saying I have anything against it... I just want to understand the practise.

A Murder of Angels Proudly_Jewish Jewish; there is a G-d, and only 1 G-d. Just out of curiosity, perhaps you can answer this for me... I know Jews have a law against speaking the name of God, but the word "God" isn't the name of God itself, so why write it as "G-d"? I'm not saying I have anything against it... I just want to understand the practise. 1) It is considered a sin for us to write out His name in full in any setting where there's a chance of it being erased. So in this forum for example, I could easily erase his name by accident while editing something I wrote; so I write G-d, so that I will be allowed to erase it later. 2) His name is considered holy, so it's not supposed to be casually thrown around. It's fine to write out His name in full in a siddur (prayer book) for example, but on an internet forum... ? 3) Certain names for Him are considered very holy and can only be said allowed during prayer. The English word "G-d" is considered less formal and can therefore be pronounced in everyday conversation. I hope that kinda answers your question 3nodding feel free to question me further if you're still confused.

My religion? It's complicated.
At first I was a Christian (Baptist), but I left that faith and started some searching of my own. I spent a lot of time doing research on Wicca, which held my interest because of my mother. After a while I decided that wasn't right for me either, and for a while I was agnostic.
However, I became more and more convinced that a God did exist, and didn't just have my doubts. I have started to follow my own religion.
Basically, I believe that there is one God, but that It can and has taken the form of every God/dess that people in the past, present, and future have come to worship. It is because of this that respecting the beliefs of your neighbor is best if you believe in God, especially if the belief in question concerns God. To show intolerance for a Muslim when you're a Christian BECAUSE they're Muslim is a disrespect to Allah, which is just another form of the God you worship. I call this the Law of Subjectivity.
I sometimes refer to God as AEG(All-encompassing god) and refer to AEG as It, because I do not believe God has one sex. I also don't feel it is necessary to bow down and worship AEG just for existing, just to show respect for AEG and its teachings.
Sin is defined as any action that harms another without proper justification. This has a lot to do with the Law of Subjectivity. Basically, Sex isn't a sin unless your partner didn't or couldn't consent, unlike the sex-related sins in book religions. Killing isn't a sin unless it was in cold blood or something. Etc etc. Also, if you sin you must be rid of it by a.)being regretful (whether or not you did this is judged by AEG) and b.)allowing for retribution (enforced by man).

Life's a dance you learn as you go Sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow Ahh!!! I thought I wrote in this thread but guess not sweatdrop LOL Anyways, In theory, I am supposed to be a muslim. I remember my dad telling me the story about Muhammad and how he became a prophet and it was actually a nice story. I don't remember how it goes though. My parents were never really that religious but they do strongly believe in god. We also believe that Jesus Christ is not a god and he is not the son of god either. We believe he is just a prophet, just like Moses and Muhammad. However, I don't believe anymore. Actually, I slowly started realizing and believing that god does not exsist and by the time I hit 10th grade, I considered myself atheist. A few months ago though, my friend told me about satanism. So I started researching it and my friend emailed me the satanic bible. LaVey's philosophy is very similar to the philosophy I had created for myself back a few years ago so that's why now I consider myself an Atheistic/LaVeyan Satanist. Don't worry about what you don't know Life's a dance you learn as you go

I'm part of no organized religion; I'm spiritual and take ideas and morals from the religions I find interesting. I actually picked up a book by Anton LaVey and find it very rational and logical. Other than that, I really don't know if I'll ever be part of an actual religion.

I am a Shemsu in the Kemetic Orthodoxy. I was for most of my life a Roman Catholic, but I could never truely feel the Divine in my life, and the way I was taught to view other faiths did not seem to hold true to the teachings of Jesus. In fact, most everything seemed contradictory. While I was stationed in Iraq, that was when Sekhmet came to me, and through study and research, i found a faith I never knew existed. Eventually, I became a Kemetic Orthodox, and now I have a very personal and wonderful relationship with the Gods and Goddesses, and always my strongest connection and love is with Sekhmet, though I do always give respect, prayer and praise to the Others, and I especially enjoy the combination of fun and seriousness with Yinepu ^.^ (He goes crazy over offerings of chocolate razz ) And above all else, my life is balanced, and I now have the kind of support to overcome my hardships that I never had before, and with a family of Shemsu and Remetj that actually acts like a family.
