As the boy had walked across the playing field, his attention had been caught by a youth he knew well by reputation, if not by any particular close contact. This... Marlow character. As all Americans were, Marlow was likely to be daft and blunt as all hell. He was also a complete a** as far as Arthur was concerned. Why else would one pose for a photo shoot arranged by oneself just to show of to a boy who was clearly not interested. The ebony-haired teen grimaced slightly as he once again caught sight of the bleach-haired teen, now with his arm around the younger of the twins - Kev, who was... a bit of a friend of his (maybe). He was nice, anyway....

Angered by the sight of one (actually, two, but he ignored Kev's misdemeaner) who was so obviously shirking his own good fortune, Arthur kicked the ball rather too hard and it was sent flying towards the pair, the scrawny teen left to gawp with quite the shocked expression. "Aw crap..." he muttured.

“Shy, huh?” Marlow rubbed his chin as he thought that one over. It did make sense, after all, and as he didn’t -want- to think that Will disliked him in any way, it was easy for him to believe, despite the fact that Will’s extracurricular activities seemed to prove otherwise. “You’re a good guy, Kevin. And I-“ Before he could finish his thought, he was interrupted by an odd little crunch as a soccer ball struck him firmly at his hip, his cell phone in his pocket cushioning the blow. “Ow!” he shouted with a start, then turned to gaze out into the field. “Hey, who kicked that?”

That was Arthur's cue. After a moment's cringing, he came running over towards the pair, his expression the very epitome of appologetic. "Ahhhh... s-sorry about that..." he called as he ran to the pair, slightly out of breath from having just been in the middle of a heated game. "I wasn't paying too much attention... it slipped, I...." He finally reached the pair then and, about two feet from them, stopped and slumped down to rest his hands on the tops of his knees. "I guess I lost control. Sorry... Guess maybe the camera flashes distracted me or something." With that, he straightened up. He was quite the sight with his hair all askew and his clothes ruffled from play, but the look (fortunately) had a pleasing effect.

Kev looked up just in time to see the football sailing towards them. Fortunately, he was on the other side of Marlow and was not himself hit, although the other side of Marlow's hip did bang slightly into his own with the impact. But he could overlook that. It wasn't as if it was of any consequence, after all.

"You alright?" he asked Marlow, glancing up at the teen before his eyes slid back to the playing field and the scrawny teen running towards them. Kev cocked his head to one side as the other explained his "reason" and then shrugged once he was through.

"Mmm. Guess the whole photo shoot thing was a bit much, huh? Distracting, anyway -- or at least, I'm guessing it was supposed to be since Marlow's just trying to get attention." With the last part, he once more jabbed the bleach-haired teen in the ribs with his finger, his usual bright (and mischevious) grin in place upon his lips.

Cerulean frowned, then rubbed his side where Kev had poked him. “Hey now, hey now,” he tried to take control of the situation, waving off their insults. “I get enough attention on my own without the cheap gimmicks. But why should the regular joe-shmoe-notice-me get to have all the fun?” He smiled at Kev, but the new kid didn’t have immunity. With a glance he could tell that Arthur wasn’t cut from the same stock as most of the campus, but he wasn’t about to talk down to him.

“SO!” he began with a flourish. Even if he wasn’t some delusional senior, he could still put on airs. It was clear though, that he wasn’t serious. (He couldn’t be, right?) “Your apology is accepted. Normally I’d take a few swings or what have you, but well, I don’t want to appear like an American Brute to Will.” He paused and stroked his chin. Maybe Will would be into that kind of thing. An untameable lion on the battlefield, an insatiable beast in the bedroom... it was better not to linger on such things.

“If this was a real sport, I’d challenge you to a match, but really, I don’t think you can one on one in soccer. Sorry “football.” So, right. What was your name again?”

This Marlow character was much stranger than he had ever thought. He nodded slowly at the other's words, not at all sure what to say. However, he simply had to be... pleasant. He had to be. It was his reputation, after all, and he had to adhere to it. Besides that, if he wanted to be even close to "even footing" with the rich boys at the school, he had to be liked, or at least such was his thinking. A small, unsure smile had, at some point, slipped onto his lips out of pure habbit, but he couldn't quite help but bristle slightly as Marlow refered to football as not being a "real sport." Arthur loved football, even if he hadn't joined the club (the track team was quite demanding enough, thank you very much). However, he made quite the effort to settle down again, the smile returning to his lips as he murmured, "Arthur."

There it was. Marlow had been looking for it, that hint of a wince, that small show of displeasure. He fed off of it, being annoying to people who made it their business to be on the line about things. Sooner or later, Arthur would have to come to an open decision about him, and when that time came, it would either be that he liked Marlow or found him despicable. It was better that it happened as soon as possible, so they could all stop tiptoeing on eggshells. (However, this little game didn’t apply to Kev and Will, as although he sometimes deliberately annoyed the latter boy, he truly did want him to like him.)

“Right Artie. Let me file that.” It was another something he did, snap a picture of someone with his camera phone, then send it to everyone on his list along with their name - in this case, “Artie”, but something went terribly, terribly wrong. What he pulled out of his pocket couldn’t exactly be called a cell phone, but rather a handful of broken plastic and electronic “doohickies’ “ARGH!” It was rare that Marlow was actually angry, but there was a certain amount of displeasure written on his face, “My phone!”

Arthur had been preparing to ask oh-so-politely if the other could please call him something other than "Artie" -- he hated that name -- when...

Holy f*cking s**t. He'd really done it now, hadn't he. He winced vividly at the sight of the crushed phone. He glanced from between to broken phone and then back up to Marlow and back again in a never-ending cycle (or at least, a continues round until his eyes finally settled somewhere down around his feet). Bright pink splotches of aprehension began to form on the boy's cheeks, his expression near pannick.

"I-I.... I'm s-s-so.... s-sss-sorry," he stammered nervously, breath coming quickly. This was just wonderful. Second day of the new school year and he had already managed to break the (exceedingly expensive) cellphone of a prestigious member of "popular" (for reasons unfathomable by the scrawny, ebony-haired teen).

Kev cast a pitying glance upon the poor teen who had, accidentally and quite unfortunately, broken Marlow's cellphone. Marlow would get mad. Probably. And Arthur would have to pay for the broken phone, which Kev didn't think he would be capable of. "Mmmm... guess it's not a good idea to carry your cellphone around during P.E., hmm? Usually, during P.E., you're supposed to be too busy playing to have any time for phone calls." Kev grinned slightly as he spoke, completely ignoring the fact that he himself was deffinately not playing the game at hand right now. But it was fun to tease Marlow, especially because the teen thought he owed Kev for his date.

Arthur’s stammering only made Marlow angrier, as if it proved that it was done on purpose, but when Kev piped up with his own opinion, the boy began to simmer down. Count to ten, he though to himself, play it cool. He usually did, anyway. “Yeah...” he muttered, taking the time to scratch the back of his head with the hand that wasn’t full of junk, “I guess you’re right, Kevin. No harm, no foul.” He actually smiled then, the expression directed towards Arthur, who had unwittingly just been saved from a year of torment thanks to the brief intervention. “I needed to get a new one, you know? Maybe a certain someone will come with me when I go shopping this afternoon?” His eyes darted back over to Kev, who he was sure would be able to gather his meaning.

"Oh, sure, Marlow, I'd love to come with you," Kev responded, grinning brightly as he did, and stifling a slight snigger. "Oh, Marlow, you're so naive. Didn't I just tell you Will won't be anything other than stony in any sort of public place?" he said, grin widening as he chose that moment to place his arm around the other's shoulder and lean sideways into him. From anyone else, this would be odd... and exceedingly annoying. From Kev, it was normal and anyone who voiced the opinion that it was annoying was likely to not come away very happily. Not that Kev would ever use his money or whatnot to convince others... but he was simply naturally very convincing and excessively irresistable. Kev was probably one of the most saught after teens at school, along with his twin.

Arthur swallowed thickly and nodded slowly, nearly sighing in relief (fortunately he caught himself before it actually happened). He shot Kev a glance that most clearly read "thank you." He would most deffinately have to find some way to repay the blonde....

It was as if Marlow's anger had simply disapeared at the boy's words... which was quite amazing. It most deffinately meant that Kev was well-liked (which was something Arthur already knew). He would... he would have to study the other's behavior so that... he could do that sort of thing - just banish others' anger with a few well chosen, joking words.

If it had been anyone else, Marlow would have shoved him to the ground in one hard push. But for some reason, it seemed clear that he didn’t mind the Riddle boys walking all over him, though he did seem a little bit agitated at being called naive. “I happen to like it when he’s stony, it gets me all hot and bothered.” He teased Kev right back in a husky, sensual voice, leaning in close so his breath was warm against his neck. He liked to play and let people get the wrong idea, it was fun, as was putting on a show for Arthur. “It’s not like it doesn’t turn out well for you in the end, is it Kevin?” It was all he could do not to giggle. By now, the PE teacher seemed to just be ignoring them. It didn’t do well for his blood pressure to pay them too much heed.

"Oh dear... is it just me or do you have a twin fettish?" he asked slyly, his grin broadening. "I'd better watch out, then, or you might start asking Will how you can get in my pants." With that, he stuck his tongue out at Marlow. Not that it was very successful, as he was still draped comfortably over the other's shoulder. "And what exactly does that last statement mean, hmmmmmm?" he asked, the corners of his mouth quirking up like a pleased cat. Obviously, Kev had no qualms whatsoever with this sort of play.

Arthur gaped slightly at the pair's open display of "friendliness," as some would put it. "I... erm... I..." he began, taking a few hasty steps from the open show of PDA. "I... had better get back to the game... I---" But as he had been backing away, the heel of his shoe quite unconviniently found a rock for him to trip over -- which he did, and quite well at that.

Now on the ground and on his butt, Arthur sucked in a hiss of air, his cheeks puffing up slightly as he did. "---oww..." he muttured slowly, obviously angry with himself.
