Lunaries Just thought I'd add a note about something here. Jet Li (someone I have alot of respect for) was caught in the great tsunami and here is what he said in his interview (as shown in the great tsunami relief concert in Hong Kong): When the first wave came, he was near the beach with his daughter and his daughters' nanny by his side, his wife and his other daughter a bit ways away. When the water started rushing in, he picked up his daughter in one arm, hooked his other arm around the nanny. The water rose to his chest already by that time (him being not that tall) and for a moment he contemplated letting go of the nanny to take care of his wife and other daughter. But he didn't and in the end, his entire family made it through safe. He is donating 1 million dollars for tsunami relief. what a sound guy

I'd estimate and say he was a third dan, assuming he hasn't failed any tests, and keeps up with it.

Deimos_Strife Bahvanta Ok this is a bullshido artist if I ever did know one! Elvis presley....took karate and payed his instructor 50k and a car too grade him to 8th dan! eek eek Haha, really? Wow...oh while were on topic, which was the earliest bullshido schools/artists? They've existed for thousands of years. Arts are only really battlefield effective during times of war. When nations go through times of peace arts taught to civilians tend to become watered down and dangerous techniques are taught through Kata and not through actual practice so the schools teaching the arts become in-effective as most traditional systems are. Very few schools maintain their effectiveness. Becuase of human nature their have alway been those who will exploit systems for money or personal gain. When times of war re-occur then there will be a need for combatitive systems that work. Systems are developed and evolved depending on what kind of enemy a nation are fighting. A good example is the ju-jitsu that the japanese used on the battlefield is very much different from the ju-jitsu you'll see in schools today because times have changed. For example, Weapons will be mainly used until a soldier loses the weapon or breaks it, the soldier will then resort to grappling throws may be modified for opponants wearing armour and groundwork is then employed so soldiers can finish their opponants with short bladed weapons or they can tie them up for capture. Eye gouging would be used as well as fish hooking. This fact amuses me because of the fact that these techniques were common place and the traditionalists of today say that these techniques are dis-honourable to use in a fight. If they knew their arts history they would think otherwise. Instructors need to stop kissing a** and change their art so it is suited against the opponants of today and not a watered down combat system that was used hundreds of years ago.

Deimos_Strife Btw Reim, you got a black belt? In that case, what Dan? Ihabia I'd estimate and say he was a third dan, assuming he hasn't failed any tests, and keeps up with it. Nope. I took a 3 year leave, sadly, I dont even remember why. I am 3rd Kyu (I beleive being the first you get, because the Kyu numbering system has never been cleared up to me) I am testing for my second Kyu in a few weeks. But yes, If I had not taken the 3 years off, I'd be possibly around 3rd dan, but that's not the case, and that's not why I train.
