Hiei offered the fox an odd look. Now this was new. Kurama was always very responsive and collected. The eye-contact might have been disregarded if not accompanied by the delayed return. Hiei couldn't think of why Kurama seemed distant.
"Kurama," he began, to catch attention. Hiei might be irrational at times, but the way Kurama acted in situations usually were hints at something. For example, their trip to the dining room the night before. The change in the red-head's breathing had caused the koorime slight alarm. Perhaps now he had discovered something and was daunted? Somehow this seemed different.
Though Hiei was unsure of how to ask if there was some immediate danger.
"You're distracted," he said finally, going back to the other. "If it is something relevant to our current position, then you need to communicate with me. I can't always read those pretty eyes of yours."
The last bit was thrown in to smooth the egdes of his words.

As intended, the sound of his name caught Kurama's attention, causing him to turn towards the Koorime. He listened to Hiei, catching a bit of concern in his words. The compliment on his eyes completely threw him off, though. But he felt that acting more alert was necessary, so he did not dwell on that. Not yet.
"I will keep in mind to do that. I came here to observe... I wish to get out of here as much as you do, I expect," was the soft response. Being a fox demon, animal based, he hated being trapped. The only thing that made it tolerable was that Hiei accompanied him.
Then he took the time to analyze the comment on his eyes. Had Hiei meant anything by that? It certainly wasn't something he would normally say. Hiei never said more than he had to without ample reasoning. It was... confusing, in a way.
"And, for the compliment, thank you," Kurama added, giving a meaningful look. It was something he felt the need to address, even if only by a small 'thank you.'

Hiei had his hand over the flame again, listening to Kurama's response. But he was confused when he was thanked. Compliment? Oh. Eyes.
The koorime let his fingers touch the fire, and deliberately diverted his gaze away from the meaningful look. He hadn't really meant for that to be a compliment. Now he was embarrassed. It wasn't that compliments were a bad thing, but he didn't like anyone to think him the kind of person to give one.
But it seemed to make Kurama happy and help him out of his own daze, so he decided maybe it wasn't so bad.
He brought his fingers from the flame, their tips hot and lucent. Something intrigued him to bring two fingertips to his lips. He felt that was the best way to appreciate that small amount of warmth before it absorbed into his body.
Blinking and stepping from his spot, he made his way to the exit as if he hadn't done anything. "Kitchen," accompanied his sideways glance back at the fox.

It was Kurama's turn to blink when the fire demon's fingers came to his mouth. What had possessed him to do that? And why bring the fox's attention to his lips?
Sometimes he found the youkai's actions quite strange. He seemed to get embarrassed over the smallest things, such as being thanked. It really was something that shouldn't phase him. But he wasn't going to question it; it was something best left alone.
He was also surprised to hear him actually want to go to the kitchen enough to mention it. The red-head took his waiting as a right away to go ahead, so without further stalling he began the short trip down the staircase.

Hiei stayed behind Kurama, already learning from the experience up the steps. Nothing would brush this way. When they finally got back into the hall, he was grateful for more space.
As for wanting to go to the kitchen, he was hungry but would not eat. He had wanted to leave the dark, candlelit room quickly so he brought up eating. It had worked, and there they were.
When they came across the mesmerizing design on the wall, Hiei directed his vision downward.

His earlier experience caused him to pay no attention to the wall, as well. But to Kurama, the design was only mildly interesting. What about it intrigued Hiei so?
When they got to the kitchen, they saw that it was somewhat modern. It had a refrigerator, a microwave, and other things like that. Kasai seemed old-fashioned to an extent, but didn't seem to shy away from modern conveniences.
The fox went through a few cabinets, the pantry, and the refrigerator, but still wasn't quite sure what to eat. "Anything you would like?" he asked, hoping to get a suggestion, even though he was fairly sure Hiei wasn't hungry.

"I'm not eating," the koorime said flatly. Though his eyes could have told Kurama that with ease. It had been enough for him to actually sleep in this place, but he refused to eat anything. Though he doubted any of it would be poisoned, eating would mean that he accepted the fact that they were stuck, and could be for a while.
He tightened his jaw and told himself that they would be out soon enough.

In the back of his mind, Kurama had predicted that he would not want to eat, so this wasn't a surprise. So he merely fixed himself some coffee and was done with the room.
Now, if the hi-youkai wouldn't eat, what would he do? There wasn't much more to do... they had explored most of the house, and had even talked quite a bit. Sure, there were other possibilities, but Hiei wouldn't even give those thought before saying 'no.'
"So is there something you will do?"

Somehow Hiei knew Kurama would ask that question. He didn't really have an idea of what was to be done now. They could explore more, he guessed, but it was unlikely they would find anything amazing. Had they not been trapped, the koorime might have enjoyed quiet bathing. If they were going to wander back into the bedroom, he might gaze out the window or simply doze off. He briefly wondered what would happen if he jumped out the window. But the psychic wasn't stupid, so any chance of escaping that way was slim.
Hiei shrugged, looking like he could care less. He thought maybe Kurama would have some ideas. How ningen-like of him it would be.

"I suppose we could explore this level, as well," Kurama suggested dully. It was not something he was overly keen on doing, but why not? There was an almost non-existant possibility that they might find something of interest.
The fox set his now-empty mug on the counter, deciding to leave it to Kasai to deal with. His spirits weren't as high as they had been... and that would probably only worsen. Being in captivity was taking it's toll, and having his friend around only helped so much, especially when Hiei wasn't in the best of moods. So much for the unexpectedly nice sleep helping.

Another shrug. He left the kitchen quietly, not waiting for the fox this time. He was steadily slipping into one of his unsociable moods, which left little chance of getting real words out of him.
He walked near the wall in the hallway, scraping his nails along the patterned wallpaper. It was his way of telling the castle he didn't like it.

Blinking a few times, Kurama followed the fire demon. Maybe he would let him lead, this time. But it seemed that he was only going in the direction of that one bedroom. Boring.
When the kitsune saw him shred the wallpaper, he made no comment. It really wasn't something he cared about. If anything, it might make the demoness set them free.

Night popped out of nowhere in front of the guests.
"And just where are you going without eating the most important meal of the day? Are you insane?" She put her hands on her hips in a mother hen fashion. "You will eat, willingly" she narrowed her eyes dangerously, "or I will force the food down your throat."
Before either had time to argue, Night was dragging them into the kitchen and had them sitting in two chairs. She smiled pleasantly, but the promise of what would happen to them if they refused food burned in her eyes.
"Would you like anything in particular, boys?"
(Sorry about yesterday, I couldn't get on, cause the computer room was closed... crying )

Hiei was mildly surprised when the demon girl suddenly became present. He remained calm, however, and offered only his most irritable glare. Resistance was attempted, though they were suddenly back in the kitchen. And sitting down. The jaganshi blinked, eyes wide with confusion. He cursed under his breath and grabbed Kurama's arm, promptly standing up.
"Listen, child," he hissed. "Had I intended to eat, I would have."
