I'm in the pit like half the people here whee sweatdrop my favorite instrument is the marimba heart heart heart

Our band is small..35-40 people i think and our drumline is even smaller whee we have 2 snares 2 quads and 4-5 bass and 2 cymbals...I forgot how many people we have in the pit but alot of them are new..But drumline season is here! heart ! heart !

I've been a mallet percussionist for about a year now, and I'm just starting on four mallets, but I'm the only mallet player in my tiny band!

The drumline consisted of 2 snares, 2 cymbals, 4 bass, and a quad last marching band season.

And our band is so incredibly poor. The current marimba is very very old, and is being held together with duct tape. Recently, we went through our percussion inventory, and it was pretty much, "We don't have this, this, or this, that one's broken, and don't forget this..."

Yeah, our school is incredibly poor, and our band is incredibly small compared to our school size. Such injustice. stare

yay pit! I love all mallet instruments, especially my vibes... which I hog during every rehearsal.

Our drumline is decent I think...

5 bass, 3 or 4 snare, 2 tenors I think, but its in flux right now... no cymbals... our percussion instructor is a staunch believer in only a little of a good thing (crash cymbals) so us pit people will cover a few crashes through out the show... though for parades we split the pit, most of us in front doing the banner and state/city/American flags, and three or four in back with cymbals.

Strange? That's exactly how I am.
We have to share a vibe between 2 bands at our freshman center.
I wouldn't let them have it until the BD said to.

I said it earlier but i'll say it again.
We had 28 on our DL.
9 snares, 5 tenors, 5 basses, and 9 cymbals.
We had about 30 in the pit.

haha, awesome. Most people in our pit slash the pit at my old school hate the vibes... but its mine. It was the instrument in my charge to get on and off field my first year, so its been mine ever since.

*revels in the presence of other Pit-ites*
Hi y'all!! ^_^
Let's, I have no clue how many total people are in our band sweatdrop but i do know that last season we had :
3 snares
2 tenors
5 bass
8 Pit.
To us, eight Pit is incredible. We only have five(ish) pairs of cymbals, so during parades half of us march w/o anything. We hope to march cymbals next year, but I wanna stick to Pit so I can get better w/ everything (i'm a band noob....) SO yeah, we're special.

Everyone in my pit wanted to get out of it, for some reason.... I'm not that bad of a section leader, but there are times when pit is dull, as I'm sure you all know. So generally I get all of the freshmen when they don't make Drumline, a few mallet die-hards, and.... try really hard to beat people into learning their music.

I love my snare. I wouldn't trade snare line for the world.

So i am in drumline and we are starting off now on the winter season. Well over the past two years we used to have drumline seperate from the winter guard but this year we have thrown them together. So now its more like the guard dances around us. 3nodding Anyway i was wondering if anyone elses band had decided to do this or if our guard is simply so horrible. sweatdrop

I am starting to play percussion next week for band. (I will be playing all of them, except snare). I can't believe someone actually trusts me with mallets. I highly respect that person who would do that.

Yay! Score! I found a percussion section!!!!!! What's up y'all? I play anything except snare.....sry I suck at snare. Oh and drum set, but I'm a closet drum set player. wink shhh don't tell anyone. I'm not that good though. My main instument is the grand maramba. Or vibes.....*shrugs* lol

I am the master of the pit in my school band (well actually, this one girl is the pit captain, but can she play with four mallets--I don't think so). I play the vibes mainly, but my coolest part so far has been on the marimba. 16th note runs at one hundred-some bpms does wonders for the arm muscles.

Funsies! It does make you strong too. My Col Alg teacher was bragging that he could lift a desk over his head, so I did it myself.... Even though he has a foot and fifty pounds up on me.... ^_^ Thank you, percussion....
My duet for contest this year is straight sixteenths. ^_^ An adapted piano piece.

I can play 4 mallets too, but I don't like to as much. I can't find a grip I'm comfortable with.... I met some guy the other day who can play 6 mallets though! Cool, eh?

Yeah, I can only find the EXACT grip for four mallets by luck, but I think I'm pretty lucky sometimes.

At one of our last competitions, I got SUPER PROPS from the percussion judge. It was awesome. He either said "I'd like to complement on the xylophonist who played with 4 mallets. Looks like he had a little training there," or he said "Looks like you could use a little more training there."
