fuzzdomestic I was practicing earlier today in my study hall, and one of the clarinets came into my practice room. She just walked over and started pushing the buttons. Then, of course, she pointed to the trigger and asked me what it was. Before I could get the words out, she proceeded to guess. "Is it like an octave key?" (Which is funny within itself. Clarinets don't ahve octave keys either) I said no. "So you can only play in one octave? ... Oh!" hehehe... poor clueless Clarinets... We don't have any mellophones in our school (we're just concert band, pas de March, although we play marches), so I'll forever be a french horn! heart Question! Has anyone ever played Shenandoah? *death to Shenandoah!* Starts on uber low F (I can hit it!) but then bounces to B flat. Like, low-ish B flat. I don't like to cheat (use trigger) on anything below second space A flat, but it sounds nicer if you cheat.

Phreekontheloose182 hey sometimes you gotta cheat...low notes come very easily to me, i can play super low. high notes are the ones i struggle with. anyone got any tips on how to hit those high notes? heart Low Notes heart I'm the queen of the low notes in my horn section. No one else can do anything without cheating, plus I just love playing low. They can play all the high stuff. I can't really help you there.... the highest I can go is E flat. (4th space). Well, unless we get some cute thing that counts up to it, like a mini-scale. THEN I can go to F, F sharp, whatnot. ~Cosi

If you roll your lips, they usually come out easier. But the best way to play them is to train your lips. For instance, slur up from the highest note that you can play easily to the note that you want to reach, and then slur down. Then repeat. It builds the muscles in your lips. I did that, and now I can play my C scale 4 octaves. heart low notes heart They are still my favorites.

sugarnew182 We have 280 people in our band =) Compared to the schools we play, that is like really big... Our music seemed difficult in the begining, but it is becoming easier.. Okay thats like one third of the population of our high school. our band has only 46 or 47 people. we call our mellophones marching frrench horns though but we he have a funny motto.......... we are the frenchwhorists can i get the unperson banner plllllllese

I have a question for you french horn players. What's the most comfortable range for french horns? I was wondering 'cause I'm attempting to compose something, and I didn't want to make it like crazy high or crazy low on accident. sweatdrop And as there are no french horns in my band and hasn't been since my freshman year (and then, neither of them were in my class), I don't really know much about them.
Anyway, thanks in advance!

Ahhhh 1 week and 2 1/2 hours until I leave for Phili and D.C. We are going there to march as the lead parade in the Phillidelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade. =) We haven't had any parade practices yet, I hope we don't screw up.
