Kikue sat down slowly on the bench, next to Ambrose. She listened. Her words failed her. If they stopped injecting her, she would face cancer. The worst she could think of, before, had been that she might negatively effect people who hadn't been injected. But not only might that still be the case, cancer was in her future if the treatment ever stopped. At least Ambrose seemed to be trying to convey that the labs meant for the Islanders to be able to walk, and talk, by the end...but what about 'Pyroth'... She tried not to think about it. Maybe he was a special case...
She forced herself to remain composed. In control. "Why," she began, her voice shaky, "are they doing this?" She looked pleadingly at Ambrose, like he could give her the answer. But she knew he might not even know. She shook her head quickly. "I'm sorry. I know you might not even know...after being here nine months..." The sudden outpouring of emotion caught even her off guard. She quickly wiped her face, clearing her throat and sitting up a little straighter. "...I found out my serum is a snow leopard. Dr. Lockheart told me." And it seemed that Dr. Lockheart might even be nice, like she had sounded over the intercom. Kikue was at least somewhat pleased at that, hoping she might be able to put the doctor down as an ally.
Kikue forced a pained smile. "Thanks for telling me all of this..." She paused, looking Ambrose over again. "But I do want to know...does it hurt?" A question that had haunted the back of her mind since seeing Jamal, and the paw pads growing from his once-human hands.

He cast her a sidelong glance as she took a seat besides him, his tail thumping a few times on the bench, glad that she was not hesitant to be close to him.
However, at her difficult questions, his ears lowered and his tail stilled.
Slowly, he shook his head. "I have yet to hear a legitimate excuse for ... ripping us from our lives and taking away our humanity. I have heard excuses - better understanding of the human genome and how manipulatable it is.... potential cures or remedies for diseases or injuries.... but I do not see how this solves that." He held out his paw-like hands.
He glanced over to her. "Snow leopard? That isn't so bad... at least by comparison. I don't know who all you have met aside from Jamal or myself, but I have seen people I certainly do not envy.... people becoming reptiles... fish.... an octopus... even one woman has been merged with plant DNA." He shook his head.
At the final question he held his breath for a moment, the wince on his face answering the question before he even opened his mouth. "I wish I could say otherwise.... but... to be perfectly honest, yes. The transformations are not pleasant by any stretch of the word. The changes you see... well, they require the shifting of bones and muscle.... But... they are temporary - they happen in bursts after follow up injections. It takes.... a few hours usually, and then you are sore for a few days. But there are pain medications in the town hall."
He glanced in its directions. "I.... I wish you the best of luck here, Kikue. But, despite most of us not having a schedule, I actually do have something I need to do. My... ah... my girlfriend.... she just went through her first change yesterday - and I need to bring her something to eat as she does not feel well to come out of the duplex yet. But, please, if you need to talk to someone I am willing to chat or answer more questions - just make sure that you want to know the answer. I'm in duplex number one." He gave a sardonic smile. Easy to remember.
He stood up and nodded his head awkwardly at her. "Take care of yourself, and I will see you around?" He gave her a wave and continued on to the cafeteria.

Kikue shook her head, too. Even if the excuses for doing this were as Ambrose said, she couldn't explain how the it meant something overly helpful to humanity. She looked sadly at his hands as he held them out, merged with a wolf's paws. She didn't know how it solved any of it, either. So often it was the human who was sacred in research; the animals were what was tested on, not that Kikue necessarily found it ethical or not. She couldn't understand why the scienctists would instead choose to change the human. The only way this research, at least as far as she could see, would be helpful, would be to apply such minor changes to a person that they weren't noticeable, yet cured something or fixed some injury. She glanced at her crushed, bandaged hand at the thought.
An octopus? A plant? She was taken aback. "You're kidding," she whispered under her breath, knowing that he wasn't at all. And fish. That would be so hard -- especially for the fact she happened to quite like fish when it came to meals. How were people coping with this?
"So it does hurt." Of course. The logical part of her argued immediately that she must have known it would be like that. The paw pads were not placed on you; they were clearly growing out of Jamal's -- and Ambrose's -- hands. Or, paws now. She knew she should have known that, but it complicated everything, suddenly. Growing a three-foot tail was looking even less appealing.
Quickly, she gave Ambrose a reassuring smile. "Oh! I understand. Thank you for speaking with me. I hope your girlfriend is alright." She stood up, following his lead. She bowed politely. "I'm sure I'll see you again. Duplex number one," she repeated, for good measure, and nodded again, holding her book to herself. She waved. "I hope she feels better. Thank you again, Ambrose."
Kikue went her separate way, back towards her duplex. She had to write this down.

-New RP- (Nita and Harg)
A batty girl, of orange and majorly highlighted hair walked through the village for the first time in ages. Hargun had been finding herself in odd situations the past months, and wondered if shed ever see the village and her friends again before something else happened. Shortly after her short reunion with Amaya and a few others, she had the sudden desire to attempt to fly, feeling she had the 'wings' to do so. However, her attempt failed miserably, ending up giving her a badly broken arm, and with such delicate bones now in her appendages, it took quite a while to be recovered. ((Which I guess someone on staff and I will RP what all took place someday))
With a cranky grunt, she looked down at her arm as she walked and groaned lightly. "What the hell was I thinking when I tried doing that?" she said to herself and glanced around. "God this place is beginning to look unfamiliar, I keep getting withdrawn from it. Wonder if my duplex thing is still there.. doubt it by now.." he continued.

Nita was on her way back to her duplex from the cafeteria, carrying a box of fruits and vegetables, as well as more of that vegetable stir-fry Delia had been making lately (although it wasn't nearly as good reheated). For once it was sunny but not too hot and humid, so Nita walked slowly along the path, her long braids swinging behind her.
Not particularly paying attention to where she was walking, Nita almost crashed into another of the island's inhabitants. She stopped abruptly, swaying back and forth to regain her balance and not drop her burden. "Whoops!" she exclaimed. "Sorry about that! I wasn't really looking where I was going." Nita grinned, slightly abashed.

A muchly exaggerated squeal escaped the one Nita nearly bumped into, having been looking down again at her arm, and not focusing on listening to anything around her.
"Oh holy crap!" he said and jumped back slightly but then rushed fowards to try and help Nita with the things shed been carrying incase any of it happened to drop then stepped back again and chuckled, scratching at the back of her head. "No no, I wasnt looking either." she said then turned her head a little. {Wha... has like.. a ton of people arrived here while I was out? Ive never seen this girl before.. and she looks like shes changed already.}
"Hey uhm... do I know you? You dont look at all familiar to me.." she said squinting her eyes. Maybe she just imagined it was someone else? After all, her vision was bad enough as it was now with her changes and such.

Nita's ears twitched at the high-pitched noise, which was actually more alarming than almost running into someone. Someone who had definitely been around for quite a while, to judge by her changes. Some sort of bat, Nita thought, eyeing the elongated hands and wing-like arms.
After a rather impressive juggling act, Nita managed to control the boxes of food she carried and was able to think about introductions. "Er, no, I don't think we've met," she said. "I've been here a while, but I know there are a lot of people I've never seen. I'm Nita."

Hargun nodded slowly, and scratched at the tip of one of her ears. "Eh.. I kinda figured you looked new. Im Hargun... wierd name, but I suppose it suits a wierd thing like me." he said, and held out one of her hands but hesitated to truly offer it to Nita.. she looked like she had her hands full anyways.
"Erm.. do you need any help with that? Maybe you outta set it down or something for a moment." he said, but new her offer of help was somewhat dumb. Her ability to hold things securly was definately gone, however, the webbing to her arms made a good basket for small objects, food probably being a good weight.

"Hargun?" Nita repeated, both because it was an unusual name and so she would remember it better. "Nice to meet you." She shrugged. "Yeah, I've been here a couple of months now; There've been a lot of new people lately, like within the past couple of weeks." Nita made a face. She didn't really mind being stuck on the island, but there were already so many others there... Plus, she thought rather selfishly, it was hard to explain stuff to the newcomers.
She shifted the boxes of food, making sure everything was balanced again, before carefully shaking a.. finger. Claw. Handthing. "Nah, I'm fine, they were just a bit out of control for a minute there." Nita snickered, but, spotting a conveniently located bench, went to sit down. It wasn't like she was in any particular hurry.

Harg shook her head as she heard the bad news, or at least bad news to her. Lots of newcomers always meant things were NOT clearing up for their situation. If Moreau kept getting more people, then obviously no one was trying to stop him.
"Heh.. ya sure?" she double checked and followed Nita over to the bench and sat down beside her. Now that they were a little closer, she examined Nita's animal-features and raised a brow, thinking curiously. "If.. yah dont mind me asking.. usually this is something I hesitate to ask people, but do you know what you're changing into?" she asked and raked her teeth on her bottom lip, still trying to figure it out on her own.

Nita put the boxes next to her on the bench, nullifying any need for assistance. Her body turned slightly to face Hargun, Nita's legs dangled a few inches above the ground.
"Oh, I don't mind," Nita reassured the girl, absently pushing one of her long braids back over her shoulder. "Red panda. They look kind of like raccoons, but with coloring like a fox." She nodded and held out her furred arms, noticing how near-sighted Hargun seemed to be.

Hargun gasped somewhat and looked rather upset for a moment. "A red panda? Gah.. youre lucky.. those things are adorable." she said and huffed, crossing her arms the best she could, but finally showed a kind smile again, getting over it soon. Nobody got to pick their animals.. that was just the way it was.
She examined over Nita's arms then held up her recently recovered arm and turned it around and such. "Youre really lucky. I mean.. you could turn into a really ugly, fuzzy flying mammal thing.. that eats insects all day." she said, but didnt bother shuddering. She actually liked her diet now that she had to live off it..

Nita's first thought was to apologize, but there wasn't much point. Even if she was "lucky."
"I keep hearing that," she said, a hint of complaint in her voice. "Not that anything could really be considered 'lucky' here." Of course, Nita didn't really mind her changes... but that was hardly a popular opinion around the village. "You're right though; red pandas are pretty freaking cute."
Nita leaned foreward, rather amazed by the webbing between Hargun's long, delicate fingers. "So you're a bat then?" she asked. The diet was a pretty good indicator. "Hey, at least you're still a mammal, right? And bats are cute, in a kind of a weird way."

Hargun snorted. "Id bet.. and yes, nothing, absolutely NOTHING is truly lucky here. However, if we got let go or something, then maybe, just maybe it would be considered lucky. Course wed still be freaks so.." she said rather coldly, and then sighed.
"Yea, a bat. Not sure... what specific species, cant be vampire though-" she added a chuckle. "And maybe Ill turn out cute.. maybe not. As long as I dont grow one of those hideous leafy-looking noses Ill be fine." she said. "Ive also been growing these horns on my head.. which is really wierd.."

"T'chyeah. I mean, maybe some people could still get by. I guess I still look pretty normal, but.. Geez. Do you know Cass? She's like, almost all snake, except she also has wings. One of the doctors wanted to make her look like this South American god, Quetzalcoatl." Nita shook her head. Dr. Duvert was definitely a bit.. special.
Nita giggled. "Some sort of bug-bat then." She'd seen the horns but hadn't attached any significance to them. There was so much general weirdness about the island that a horned bad didn't even throw her. "I guess they like to give some people extra features... Like Cass and her wings. Lauren's got horns too, really big ones." Nita shrugged, perfectly content to be a normal red panda. Well. Relatively normal. And relatively content. But whatever.
