Hmm, minor hijacking of the thread, to give one more example that lots of Americans deserve only a painful death, lasting no less than seven years. Especially if they work for the police. This honestly made me sick.

HOLY FRICK! eek

My thoughts as they occurred to me

A)
Quote:
Tamishia Moats and her great-aunt ignored the officer and headed into the hospital.

KUDOS!

B) Mr. Moats has the patience of a saint. There is no way I could have maintained my cool in such a situation where you are being treated unfairly by someone who should be helping you, especially when someone is dying.

C) That police officer is a p***k, a lying p***k, and obviously psychologically off, since he seems completely lacking in compassion and fails to see that he did wrong, even in retrospect. How did this guy pass the psychological tests to become a police officer?

D) I had a suspicious and painful inkling that Mr. Moats might have been black the second I saw the picture of the officer and the fact that he was white. It just smacked of racial profiling and prejudice. Not cool

E) They should fire Powell's a**.

I think that was despicable and completely unacceptable behaviour. However I will say this. I don't think that that was something we could lament as being a problem with American society. Other than the fact that there was the black/white problem, the weird dynamics of black/white racial problems is sort of unique to America & South Africa. However general racism is unfortunately universal. Something like that could be seen anywhere in the world. Recently white off duty Vancouver and Delta cops beat the crap out of a South Asian elderly newspaper man and robbed him. People suck.

And I don't think this is a modern degeneration of society, I think that this is as good as it gets. People are good and bad, and society as a whole gets held hostage by a few psychopaths and assholes (like that guy who drive across the country to do god knows what to that Dancing with the Stars kid). I think that we are no worse as a society than we were 50 years ago, or 300 years ago. We have lost more religion replaced with consumerism, but I personally find religion to be just as bad as consumerism, so it's a moot point to me. I think we have made some great strides as a society (more equality for women, minorities, etc) but have gone backwards in other ways (placing too much importance on the ages 3 to 29 demographic, this new world view that the world is for us, and the elderly need to move over is disgusting. We, the young people, suck and are stupid. Sometimes we just need to STFU)

I think we are well up and far better than our medieval counterparts, but are really no different than our Roman counterparts. Certain peoples still get things over other people, we are still rules by the same biological urges, and still have the same mental and often social complexes. You know pictures of monkeys in suits and you realize how stupid it looks. Yeah, I often get that feeling when I look at humans in suits. For one of the most intelligent animals on this planet, we are so base, it's unbelievable.

In 2009 do we need the people who write traffic tickets to be officers of the law who act like they can do whatever they want? The police should do a little more quality control and then reserve themselves to breaking doors down and fights up

Off-topic Conspiracy Re: C
Quote:
The interesting thing with U.S. cops and polygraphs is that passing a polygraph is an integral part of becoming an officer.

http://www.policetest.info/police_polygraph_exam.htm

This means the police ultimately end up recruiting people who are trained liars, or people so stuck on respecting authority that they've never broken a law.

So now there's a generation of cops, using this machine on suspects, who either think the machine is a complete waste of time because they know it can be beaten. Therefore these people are just using it as an excuse to prosecute someone they suspect but don't have better evidence. Or, they are the other half of people, who actually believe the machine is infallible because it reinforces their idea that they told the truth during the interview.

By not hiring qualified applicants who failed the polygraph, the police eliminate the entire thought process that the suspect might not be guilty despite his polygraph results.

Gordon Campbell for another 4 years. Not gonna lie, I didn't vote in this election and I have a crappy excuse. Changing registration for ridings is a b***h and getting the thing to vote outside of your riding takes like 2 weeks at least to be accepted. 2 weeks ago, I was hella busy with exams and job hunting (still am hunting, lol) and didn't give much thought to the campaign.

I did listen eagerly to the results show on the CBC last night though. What do fellow BC'ers think about it? What about the STV?

People interviewed speculated that BC Hydro is in jeopardy, and that Gordon will most likely resign by 2011 because he didn't address any changes for BC and his demeanor in his speech seemed bleh. That's just people talking, but I am worried about BC Hydro and the deregulation of things. I kind of hate privatization, and the liberals pretty much love that s**t.

I hate that he is all about the small business OWNERS but not the workers who work for ridiculously low wages and need to do 2 or 3 jobs just to pay the rent.

Aaaah that's all the bitching I got for this, and I suck for not getting more organized for the election. xd

More Olympic bitchin' from me, lol.

SFU is closed Feb 12th - 28th. No classes at all, and staff is optional. confused Basically, it's being turned into a hub for patrons to use all 2,400 parking stalls to park and be bussed out to Whistler/Cypress. So yeah, thanks SFU for agreeing to this and ******** my education further! IN THE ASSS! mad Two weeks of no class is a lot of monies down the pooper, that or two extra weeks added to the end of the semester. Awesome, get to look forward to an extra long semester, and an extra long exam period on my last frigging term in university! *explodes*

I need to live in a city without so much dang ego (blah blah vancouver is the best place on earth but we will complain about *everything*). People whine everywhere, and I'm definitely no exception to it, but s**t. Turn on the radio, and people b***h about *everything*.

Complaints - summed up in lolspeak for the lulz! xd
"OMG TAH HOBBOS HAVE A PLACE TO LIVE THAT'S NEAR MY EXPENSIVE PLACE TO LIVE!!11!! GTFO!"
"WAAAA 31 DEGREES IS SO HAWT BUT I ALSO HAET CLOUDS, SNOW AND TEH RAINZ! FML!" (seriously no weather is good enough. I see ******** umbrellas rain, sun and snow!)
"OMFFFFG RVSS IN AN UNUSED BEACH IN FEBRUARRIEZ NEAR MY RICHBITCH HOUSIN SUX!!1"

The busses will be hell in a handbasket. confused

Halp! In search of non-pretenious city-ish area. xd

OMG TAH HOBBOS HAVE A PLACE TO LIVE THAT'S NEAR MY shitty, already drug addled small Northern town PLACE TO LIVE!!11!! GTFO!

Seriously. Shipping homeless and drug people to Northern communities so that the streets of Vancouver will be clear for the Olympics. And apparently they didn't even give the municipalities the courtesy of letting them know that such a massive program was in place.
1) Underprivileged families come into the communities and bring their children into the already crowded and desperately underfunded classrooms. The demographics related to how funding is distributed aren't shifted, so our schools aren't getting paid for these kids but have to take care of them. While their previous Vancouver schools continue to get paid for them, but don't have anymore facility or service expenses related to them.
2) The job market in the North is already complete s**t, long term residents are getting laid off the same as everywhere else, and there is less employment to go around than most anywhere else in Canada. The influx of population means even harsher competition for jobs, especially since welfare recipients are required to continue actively looking for work in order to continue getting support. On top of this, the low cost of rent will go up as there are less available places, so the one thing that makes life in the North economically viable for many people will be eroded.
3)Many older and retired people live in Northern communities, and the recent increase in panhandling and crime have got a lot of people worried and downright scarred, with good reason. Many long term residents of our rural small towns have never even bothered locking their house or vehicles, and putting Drug Addicts and habitual criminals into that situation is just a bad combination.
4) There is already massive problems with drug use, especially among youth, throughout the North, and bringing junkies into the community is just a bad <********> combination. Drug People bring Drugs, Drug Dealing, and Drug Violence with them. Way to open up the Northwest to the Gangs. I know I hate having to go all the way to Prince George to find out that a cousin of mine has been shot by an Independent Soldier, and next year's Canada Day car show would be awesome with some Hells Angels bikes!
5) Northern BC is not a good place for anyone with mental health issues, and our mental health services are already massively insufficient. We're going to have to take care of a lot more people, without the facilities or resources to do so, and it's a pretty damned safe bet that we won't get penny one to help us with the effort.

6) ******** the Olympics and ******** the province.

I know right?!?!

I hate the Olympics in it's stupid assumption that it will benefit "all of BC" well ******** that. People think that tourism dollars will trickle down to the rest of the province, like if tourists see Vancouver and s**t that they will want to explore the rest of B.C. Whatever. If people in our own dang province can't be bothered to learn what's beyond Hope, how can we believe that others would want to get out there?

The North just doesn't have the resources to deal with an increase in population, especially of those with special needs.

I think if you had heard the yuppie complaints on the CBC you would have vomitted in your mouth a little, that's how disgusting it all was. sad I just felt so like, "wow, humanity sucks balls" after hearing it. It was the most extreme "Not in my backyard" sentiment evar!
