  Kingdom ↠ Phronese Position ↠ Prince Full Name ↠ Stephanie Nous Nickname ↠ Steph Age ↠ 21 years Birthday ↠ April 28th Height ↠ 6’2 Weight ↠ 210 lbs Powers ↡
Telepathy - The psionic ability to read and control the minds and thoughts of humans, and other sentient beings, and to transfer information from one mind to another without the aid of physical communication (noise or movement). Telekinesis - The ability to influence, control, or manipulate matter, energy or even other aspects of the physical world using the power of his mind. Stephanie is able to manipulate matter at a molecular level and change the shape and color of objects

Personality ↡ Stephanie is cool and aloof and prefers to be self-reliant. He does not show very much affection, even to his sisters, and keeps his thoughts and feelings close to his chest. Stephanie can and will be charming when there is something to be gained or when he must present a welcoming face in the name of Phronese, but there is rarely any feeling behind the display. He uses his powers often and sometimes very flashily and can be a bit of a showoff.
Political Opinion ↠ Stephanie judges kingdoms by their current level of usefulness to Phronese. Be it weapons from Corthyr, slaves from Chronos, or increasingly rare saltwater rainbow pearls from Luna, a kingdom’s resources and what they are willing to sell are all that he cares about.
Biography ↡ Stephanie was born three years after his sister and believed for a time, much as she had, that she would be the one to inherit the throne. It wasn’t something he was old enough to even want or care about and he enjoyed the relative freedom of his earliest years of life. He was an exuberant child then, very active, always laughing, and very affectionate. He idolized his big sister and either did not notice or did not care that others found her to be awkward. She was his big sister Evie and, in his adoring eyes, she was a bona fide dragon slaying hero.
But even Stephanie had to eventually take notice when his parents’ attention shifted to him, excluding Evie almost entirely. Suddenly he was the one their hopes were pinned on and any time he spoke of his sister, much less her occupying the throne someday, expressions became pinched and his words were dismissed. He persisted for a time, railing that it wasn’t fair to just push Evie aside, but his parents would just tut and insist he would grow out of such childish notions. That there was more to leading a country than birthright and ‘fairness’.
Stephanie learned to keep his thoughts on the matter to himself, but began acting out in other ways. He would sneak out of his room, avoid lessons, play in places where he should not be; anything to show off that maybe he was not the best choice to lead the country after all. He truly became a menace when his powers began to bloom; he did not yet have full control over them but he could use them well enough to stir up palace gossip or trip up servants in the halls. Admittedly he also just enjoyed playing these tricks, even if nothing ultimately changed and he still wound up ascending to the throne.
One day when the prince was only eight years old, he had slipped away from his tutors to play in the forest behind the castle. He knew that he wasn’t supposed to, but that was what made it such a fun place to play! He wanted to see how high he could climb all by himself and he just knew no one would let him if they knew about it. He was climbing up and up on… some strange thing, but who really cared what it was? He just wanted to reach the top! But before he had the chance, he heard Evie’s voice yelling at him to get down.
And then he was falling.
The falling prince panicked, letting out a loud wail, but could not summon his powers at all to prevent his fall. He was too afraid and out of sorts. He did not even realize at first that his rapid descent had stopped and he was swaddled in glowing magic. Then he began to lower slowly, the child looking around wildly as he knew this was not his own magic at work. When he finally saw Evie, blood was trickling from her nose and there was a shock of white in her hair that had not been there before, but she didn’t notice. She was only focused on saving him. Only when he was safely on the ground did his sister finally let herself relax and promptly passed out.
Stephanie cried over his sister, clinging to her and begging her to wake up before finally running into the palace, screaming and wailing for someone to help her. The boy cried for the entire rest of the day, inconsolable, until four year old Aleithia began to cry, too. Feeling guilt both for Evie’s condition and Alei’s sadness, Stephanie vowed that he wouldn’t ever cry again. Instead, he would get strong enough to save himself so that Evie would never have to hurt herself to save him ever again and Alei would never have to see her big brother as such a weakling ever again. How could he be their kingdom’s leader if he was just a crybaby that needed his big sister to do things for him? And what kind of big brother made his baby sister cry?
Since that time, Stephanie has dedicated himself completely to perfecting his control over his powers. He practiced day and night, pushing himself to his limits and then pushing further still. His once chocolate brown hair developed white streaks much like Evie’s, but he did not care. He pressed on until every hair on his head was white. And then he pressed on still until he had all but lost his sight. He has never spoken to anyone about his diminishing sight, instead using his powers to compensate for the lack. He has become very accustomed to doing this and behaves much like any seeing person.
Stephanie had finally gained complete control over his powers, but he had lost the boy that he used to be. He was cold and distant, only seeming to lighten up at all around his sisters. Even with them he maintained a certain distance. He felt it best; he did not want to ever be the cause for their suffering again.
When the war came to an end, Stephanie felt more caution than relief. What kind of power and influence could bring such an immediate halt to a war that had raged amongst the many kingdoms for as long as he could remember? And could that power be trusted not to simply turn about and subjugate them all? He was wary of attending a school under the thumb of such an unknown, but he could not refuse when he learned his sisters would be attending. So he has chosen to view his attendance as an opportunity to learn more about Utopia. After all, knowledge was power.

Likes ↡
Showing off his powers Good liquor/wine Fine clothing/jewelry Relaxing instrumentals Bright colors (easier to actually see)
Dislikes ↡
Overly talkative people Sudden noises/being startled Complete darkness Beer/cheap booze Cigarette smoke
Misc. Info ↡
Stephanie has been instructed in the use of a sword and is proficient, but will usually eschew the use of any weapons in favor of using his powers. He considers swordplay to be nothing more than physical exercise to keep his body as well as his mind in shape. While Stephanie did serve in the war effort, he was kept away from combat as much as possible and was never deployed to the front line for fear of the kingdom losing its heir. While Stephanie will change the color of his eyes almost daily just because he can, he never colors his hair. Even though he cannot really see it, he wants to keep it white as a reminder of how hard Evie pushd herself to save him.

  Kingdom ↠ Phronese Position ↠ Princess Full Name ↠ Aleithia Nous Nickname ↠ Alei Age ↠ 17 Birthday ↠ January 3rd Height ↠ 5'3" Weight ↠ 123lbs Powers ↡

Personality ↡ Blunt and socially awkward. Not used to being asked for her opinion or even to speak, Alei is a bit of a wallflower. She's not completely ignorant in the ways of the world, but due to her upbringing she definitely isn't used to it. She is curious about the world around her and will observe in a conversation more than she will partake if given the opportunity. Stemming from a deep rooted need to gain the acceptance of her parents if someone asks anything of her, she is easy to give in and do it. Even when it causes her more anxiety than it is worth.
Political Opinion ↠ Despite being a princess, Aleithia was not completely sheltered from the war. She watched as men from the military came back to Phronese bloodied, even dying, and was literally powerless to do anything to help. Despite Chronos, Corthyr, and Luna all being allies, she fears them just as much as the enemies of Phronese. Maybe it stems from her own lack of powers, but no one person should be able to do what some of these people can.
Biography ↡ Almost as if she were an accident, Aleithia wouldn't be born until four years after her brother and sever years after her sister. It was a silent winter evening, the snow consuming any sound in the night until her wails broke the silence. There was an odd weight with her birth. Maybe it was misplaced expectations due to Evelyn's lack of social skill. Maybe it was the need to have a child that would make a useful bargaining chip. Either way, she would never quite live up to the desires of her parents.
By the time that she was four she knew something wasn't quite right between Stephanie and Evelyn. She knew he had fallen and that Evie had saved him. But that was the extent of what she understood. Under the weight of her powers, Evie had crumpled and been left in her sickbed. Her brother had retreated, crying, and Alei had only been trying to comfort him when she found him. Unfortunately, the haunting reality that she could lose her sister and could have lost her brother had left her clinging to Stephanie with hot tears trailing down her own face. Since that day she has never seen her brother cry again.
It was becoming an alarming pattern as she got older. Try her best to help, make a mistake, and end up falling short in some way. It became even worse as she got older and it became more and more apparent that she did not have powers. No telepathy, no ability to compute impossible math in her head in an instant, no command over the written word to create realities. She was simply Aleithia, and for their parents that could never be enough.
Slowly she became more and more forgotten by her parents. A useful tool to secure an ally through marriage, but that wouldn't be until later in her life. For now she was left to tutors. Every waking hour was spent on molding her into a proper young lady that could fulfill her purpose when she turned eighteen and the time came. Every day was a labor to try to earn the affection of her parents as the weight of expectations drove Stephanie further and further from her. Love was only something she got to experience on the nights she couldn't sleep and found herself tucked into Evie's bed, letting her big sister read stories to her.
Outside of that room? The constant whispers of the staff and other nobility followed her. Whispers she did her best to ignore, lest she give into their idea that she was just as useful as her non-existent powers. Occasionally, at formal functions, she would be asked about it. When it happened she would give coy non-answers, at her parents instructions. Even so, she was an open secret in the palace. One that was becoming more and more open the older she got without a hint of power in sight.
As she was getting older, Aleithia started to become more and more interested in flora. Mainly in their medicinal properties. The war had been ravaging the land for years, and for all her wish to help people there was nothing she was able to do as she was. Maybe that had been what led her to a folk medicine book in the palace library. For the first time in her life the small seed of desire for something of her own grew and grew. It was something that could never be, but it was something she could daydream about as she waited for manuscripts and books from her favorite author to trickle out of Musique.
Then one day it all just stopped. The world was quiet. The war was over. It was strange. Everything and nothing had changed all at once. And it was like that for a few weeks. Until one day a letter appeared. The Peacebringer had opened a school of sorts, a means to quietly reinforce the shaky ceasefire that had blanketed the world. It felt like a way she could finally do something good for her people. For her family. For her brother and sister. Aleithia was instantly interested in enrollment, wanting to do anything she could just to be useful.

  Kingdom ↠ Phronese Kingdom Position ↠ Princess Full Name ↠ Evelyn Nous Nickname ↠ Evie Age ↠ 24 Birthday ↠ March 30th Height ↠ 5'11 Weight ↠ 165 lbs Powers ↡
Telekinesis - The ability to move, manipulate or otherwise interact with matter and energy of the physical world using the power of her mind.
Astral projection - Evie is able to project herself and others as an astral body, separating consciousness from physical being.

Personality ↡ Growing up, Evie was a sweet kid, and quite happy, but she was also a little awkward. She struggled in large social groups and often kept quiet. But, when she got to know someone, she opened up fairly quickly, and instead a more outgoing girl would show up. Play and outgoing, Evie would spend a lot of time entertaining her little brother, making him laugh was one of her favorite things to do when they were very little, especially when he was a baby. As she grew up, she became very protective of her siblings and always kept a watchful eye on them.
After Evelyn woke from the accident, she was quick to fall into a depression, albeit one she strategically hid from her siblings, especially Stephanie. As an adult she still struggles with depression and anxiety but continues to hide it well. Evie learned how to mask her emotions fairly quickly to stop people from asking if she was okay, or if there was anything they could do to help her. She didn't want help. Evie was dependent for too long on the nurses, she was desperate for independence. So she smiles, and makes jokes, and if her emotions get to be too strong, she punches things or runs and works her body out in some way or another.
The unwillingness to let anyone help her has affected her in more ways than one. Especially in terms of serious relationships. She has never had one because she is so surface level with her emotions. On the outside, Evie is confident and charming and she is goofy and truly kind at heart, but the moment a person gets too attached, she immediately cuts them off.
Political Opinion ↠ Being the eldest sibling, Evie believed she was going to be the heir to the throne for most of her early years. So at first her family made it a point to have her be involved in political affairs. They would bring her to meetings, and parties and taught her everything they knew about the war and how to run a country. Then one day, Evie noticed their attention shift to her brother. He was outgoing and didn't have a shy bone in his body--unlike Evie. He was also her fathers only son. Whether they noticed, or even cared, Evie started to a take a back seat. Since then, the only thing she has shifted her attention to has been anything and everything else, unless her brother needed advice, she stayed out of it. However, she remains cautious of other nations.
Biography ↡ When Evie was born, despite her not being a male, she was the Nations adoring spring baby. The first child of the King and Queen and Princess of Phronese; high expectations surrounded her birth. Her father had an heir, and in the middle of a raging war, it seemed to be perfect timing. Growing up she was put through etiquette classes, had additional tutors and was brought to meetings when war efforts and strategies were being discussed. She had to learn young if she were to be the leader of a Country. In the beginning, her parents ignored the shyness, insisting she would eventually grow out of it, but to their dismay, it only worsened. Anytime she was in a group setting, Evie would shut down and clam up. When other allied leaders began to notice and point out their concerns, her father was not quiet about his disappointment.
Then, Stephanie was born.
Evie loved her baby brother, she spent all of her free time with him, making silly faces to get a giggle, or reading to him any chance she got. He was everything to her, and their parents. From infancy Steph was a happy baby, he seemed to loved people no matter if they were strangers or not, always grabbing at them with the biggest smile, and her parents took notice. As they grew older, Evie would play all sorts of imaginary games with him where they'd have to save the damsel or fight the dragon, in the end they would always come out on top as the courageous victors. She didn't notice at first, but as her brother grew, they started parading him around, and leaving her out. When there was a ball where allied Countries would attend, Stephanie was brought out to greet the guests, while Evie was encouraged to find a corner, and read.
Then she started to take note of the changes, and as much as she hated it about herself, she felt resentment building inside of her. She was being replaced as Heir to the throne. Evie couldn't help but wonder if it was because he was the only boy. It only made sense, it was the traditional way. They denied it for a while, but she knew deep down what was happening. She knew it wasn't Stephanies fault, so she did her best to push down the envy. Regardless of her best efforts, it showed up in other ways, she started spending less time with him and instead redirected her most of her attention to their little sister.
One day, Evie decided to check on Steph, she had been ignoring him for most of the day, but thought she would sit in with his tutor, and maybe help where she could. But as she approached the room, to her surprise the tutor was hurriedly walking down the corridor, looking stressed. Her brother was missing. Evie ran all over the palace, looking in every room, and every dark corner but he was nowhere to be found. She couldn't help but feel like it was her fault, she hadn't been paying attention to him and maybe this was he was of acting out. Then she remembered, the forest. The place where they slayed the dragon over and over again when they were younger.
By the time Evie got to the tree they used to play at, he was swiftly approaching a frightening height, she yelled at him to get his attention-- he needed to get down, he could get hurt. Then, he fell. Evie doesn't have many memories from her childhood, especially around this event. But, there were foggy memories of her trying to speak to her siblings, although at the time, she couldn't communicate that to anyone when she finally woke up. What she didn't know was that while she was in her comatose state, she projected herself into her brother and sisters' dreams. Subconsciously making sure they were okay, especially Steph; she could feel his guilt and it was killing him. Still, she is unaware that she has this ability and while she remembers her astral travels, she believes they were simply dreams.
Her recovery was long, and hard and for months she struggled with amnesia, she couldn't remember anyone. Eventually, she was able to recall who her family was, but many details were still missing. Evie had to learn how to walk and even talk again; her sentences barely came together and she was left with a permanent stutter. Although years of speech therapy has for the most part helped her stop, it only comes out when she is overwhelmed. She also saw a psychologist who was tasked with helping her regain the rest of her memories, but even then she still struggled. Her teen years were ripped away, and instead filled with learning how to read again, and write. She was constantly around doctors and nurses and tests were run everyday. Even worse, her abilities were completely depleted, and they didn't know when they would return- if ever.
Once she had 'fully recovered' by definition of her care team, Evie took it upon herself to feel something again, anything to make her feel like she was in control of her life. She spent hours running, or working out, sparring and fighting. Anything to help her feel strong, and able to take care of herself. When the Academy opened, Evie went to her parents and practically begged to go, this was her way of doing something with her life. If she wasn't going to be Heir, she could at least be educated. She also knew this could be her way of having freedom, away from the doctors, away from people asking if she was okay all of the time. At Utopia, no one had to know there was any incident, she was strong now, and could be anyone she wanted.

  Kingdom ↠ Phronese Position ↠ Duke Full Name ↠ Sebastian Allegro Raine Nickname ↠ Seb, Bastian Age ↠ 23 Birthday ↠ April 30th Height ↠ 6' 4" Weight ↠ 194 Powers ↡
Musical Telepathy - Sebastian has the power to hear the thoughts of a person, but instead of hearing speaking voices in their head, he can hear and sometimes see the person's thoughts manifest in the form of song and dance. The stronger the thought, the louder it plays in his head. Most of the time it can only be activated through touch, but if someone is screaming the thought or feeling loud enough near him it can also be heard. It can overwhelm him, though, especially if he's in a massive group for too long.

Personality ↡ Sebastian prefers to keep to himself, more so because of his powers rather than being anti-social. He is blunt, a bit of a smartass, and can miss certain social cues if people are being too subtle. He doesn't mean to, it just goes over his head sometimes.
Political Opinion ↠ His mother is from Musique, so he has a soft spot for the kingdom and its heritage. He has an affinity for Funkazan, but that's none of anyone's business but his own. He's rather interested in Luna, having loved learning about the solar system as a child. Other than that, he has no opinions about the kingdoms as a whole.
Biography ↡ Being born the eldest of fraternal twins, Sebastian was destined to run his Duchy from the first breath he took in the world. Much to his regret, he'd later find. Not only was he the oldest, but he was also the only boy between him and his twin. His sister, Ariel, was was gifted and kind. And would have made a much better heir, in his opinion. Unfortunately, the Fates chose him and thus he was forced to learn about things he didn't wish to and spend time doing things he would really rather not. Like how to balance the taxes in his part of the kingdom and building relationships with the royalty that governed Phronese. Boring, endless, ridiculous things.
The one perk he found when it came to being the only male heir, he wasn't forced to participate in the war. His cousins were, however, and they told him horror stories about life on the frontlines. It made him appreciate, at least a little, his place in life. He was able to travel his country and enjoy the simple pleasures that came with his position. One of them being his time spent in Funkazan. The country was beautiful, the people fascinating, and the food was simply divine.
During his time there as a young man, he happened across someone that tipped his world on its axis. His song pulled Seb in, locking him to the curious man and giving him a brighter side to the world. After that, they would send letters to each other. Sharing parts of himself that he'd never told another. Not even his twin. He'd visit the adorable creature whenever he could, using the travel as a guise for building relations. Shared looks, soft kisses, and far more than a bit of exploration passed between them. It was the best thing in his life. Then it all crashed down on his head.
Somehow, his father found out and beat him to within an inch of his life. No son of his would be with a man. He had a duty to their family. To their duchy. To Phronese. He was forbidden from sending letters, from traveling to Funkazan, from seeing his bright light ever again. It broke him. He stopped traveling, stopped exploring things outside his kingdom. He stayed in, did as he was told, and was the perfect example of what a Duke should be. So when the opportunity to go to Utopia came up, of course he went. He had a duty to his family

Kingdom ↠ Phronese Position ↠ Duchess Full Name ↠ Wisteria Ainsworth Nickname ↠ Wista, Ainsley, Lady Hysteria Age ↠ 18 Birthday ↠ December 27th Height ↠ 5'4" Weight ↠ 7.21 stones (101 lbs) Powers ↡
Crossroads Addict - In any given scenario, Wisteria has the ability to live through an approximation of all possible choices and outcomes at once. It is up to her to decide which of those paths are the best, and sifting through that information can be difficult. The process is physically and mentally demanding, and usage of this ability can quickly tire her out. The longer in which the outcomes are played out, which would be determined at the activation of this ability, the drowsier she becomes afterwards.
Emotional Distancing - A natural deterrent to the sometimes harrowing circumstances her first power makes her experience, Wisteria is able to dull her emotions so she can think as logically as possible.

Personality ↡ Wisteria does her best to remain polite and proper at all times. She has a tendency to keep her true emotions to herself...most of the time. However, she has a habit of getting quite judgmental over things that don't fit her expectations. Her humour can get rather morbid at times, but she does her best to keep it in check. She can be rather fickle, especial in regards to matters of decourum. When using her secondary ability, she can become rather curt and callous, forgoing niceties for cold, hard facts.
Political Opinion ↠ Winduria makes a mockery of a cuppa, but they run a tight ship. Wisteria wouldn't be caught dead in Hyouden as it's far too nippy. Thah would make for a nice vacation, though. Siscia is filled with kumbayah-singing hogwash. The speed of Mercurians can lead to greater inaccuracies in her predictions, so she'd prefer to keep them on her side if possible. Similarly, the illusory bullshit from countries like Luna and Alore can be rather grating. Stilicidium brings in good fish for a cheeky little fried meal, so they get a pass for now. The people of Mars are all terribly bonkers, and she would rather not have to figure out how to get out of a violent situation with one of them. Chronos seems like it's just faffing around. A nation with access to the whole of time should be a bit more advanced by now, no? Uilum, by comparison, has been on a cracking good restructuring run, and their inventions are rather intriguing.
Biography ↡ The Ainsworth estate has suffered great tragedy over the years. Every third generation, the firstborn child of an Ainsworth gains the hereditary power to "see the future": that is, to see all possible outcomes of a situation at once. But living through all those lives comes with a cost. Sooner or later, most who've come to bear the burden of that ability become struck with what has come to be known as "Pseudo-Psychosis." Once an Ainsworth gets to that state, they are no longer able to discern whether the life they're living is real or if they are still living out an outcome. Moments of hysteria soon follow as they lose their sanity entirely.
When Wisteria was born, precautions were placed to ensure that the child did not suffer the same fate as those before her. Isolated to be monitored as efficiently as possible, much of her upbringing was spent with her tutors and instructors. Her parents kept distant from her, not wishing to grow too attached to only see her go mad like all the others. However, she would not be able to remain safe forever. The war was taking its toll on the Ainsworth duchy, and resources were getting scarce. Soon enough, a great famine blighted their land. Desperate for a solution, they slowly began integrating Wisteria into their plans to survive this depression and restore their land to its former prosperity.
It started off slow at first. A minor decision here, a slight dispute there. Small things to dip her toes into the water. However, Wisteria could tell that she could do more than what was given to her, and she desperately wanted to save the people they were meant to serve while they lived under Ainsworth rule. The scenarios became more complex and at a faster rate than her family and doctors had originally intended. But desperate times called for desperate measures.
At this point in time, Wisteria found herself starting to slip. The people around her didn't always line up with those who lived through her predicted scenarios. But just as all hope seemed lost, something awakened in her. Or rather, a part of her found a way to put itself into a deep slumber. No longer burdened by the emotional weight of the many lives she was constantly living through, Wisteria was able to minimize casualties and restore order in her duchy.
However, a low cost is still a cost paid. Countless lives were still lost along the way, and the seemingly erratic choices being made during her taking of the reins caused many in the duchy to despise her despite all the good she had done. The name "Lady Hysteria" became quite popular to those with poor opinions of her, and Wisteria wasn't quite sure they were wrong. But she did what had to be done, and that was that.
Except, it wasn't. Despite being able to take the psychological edge off in the moment, it wasn't like the weight of her decisions was something she could avoid entirely. Her heart ached for people she couldn't save, as there were paths where those who died survived. However, it was always at the expense of countless others, and the needs of the many outweighed the needs of the few. But did that make the regret go away? Not quite.
The war's end brought a sense of stability to her duchy that Wisteria, nor anyone in the Ainsworth estate, could've ever hoped to bring on their own. When letters were sent for the royals and nobility of the continent to attend an academy, Wisteria was hesitant. Despite all the objectively good things she had done, she hadn't felt quite deserving of attending such a prestigious establishment. However, her parents urged her to reconsider. They voiced how proud they were of the noblewoman before them and reminded her that she was more than her mistakes.
It took some convincing, but Wisteria ultimately made the choice to attend. If she felt such regret about what befell her duchy, she could do her part in ensuring the future was bright. Plus, she heard that the chefs there made an exquisite Sunday Roast. What could possibly go wrong?

Personality ↡
After years of portraying his dead brother and having to face the consequences for actions that weren’t his, he’s developed a chip on his shoulder. This in turn lended to people not noticing the change as his brother was cruel, selfish, and lacked regard for others. Levi can sometimes be quick to anger and uses it to hide other feelings, often without realizing it. He distrusts most people right off the bat. He tries to be kind and helpful, and his true self shines through his smile and once he gets to know someone, at least a little.
Political Opinion ↠
Levi pays more attention to the politics of his own duchy and the surrounding ones, but since starting at Utopia he’s started to pay more attention to more kingdom and international reports. Phronese is okay and will defend it by default most times, but outside of it being the only home he knows it’s no better than any other kingdom. He’s supposed to grudge against Stilicidium because of boat attack he survived years ago, but really he doesn’t. He didn’t fight in the war because of his relationship to nobility but did occasional volunteer work for related causes when he was a young teen.
Biography ↡
The old Duke of Phronese had no male children, and he wasn’t going to leave his duchy to a damned woman. So what was an ailing, heirless man to do to secure his family’s legacy? He pitted all seven daughters against one another with the promise that the first one to deliver a grandson would earn his favor and be taken care of for the rest of their lives. Not only did one daughter deliver, she delivered two boys on the first try. The old Duke followed through on his promise and her family was given an estate, land, luxury items and enough riches to set dozens of commoner families for life, while the eldest twin Levi was gain the title when he came of age.
The two boys were identical but couldn’t have been more different from one another. Liam was bright and tender-hearted, the daytime to what nights Levi brought when he began his reign of terror at a young age. They were both well taken care of but there were noticeable differences in how their parents and some extended family treated them. Levi was favored, being that his birth was what propelled them further up into Phronese nobility, and because of that every demand was met and he rarely faced consequences for his actions. The boys were encouraged to play and bond with one another but their parents and nannies might as well have asked for oil and water to mix; Levi looked upon Liam more as a personal toy and punching bag, born only to serve him and do his bidding.
Liam resented his twin, and they often butted heads, resulting in knock-down drag out fights in the D’Artanagan house. More often than not, Liam bettered his twin and left him in worse shape, and more often than not he was the only one blamed and punished for it. Breathing was easier when Levi wasn’t around, so Liam went out of his way to put distance between them. He avoided him when he could, kept a smaller but different friend group, and purposely took on hobbies Levi did not like. Liam could be his own entity and learn more about himself, grow into his own skin more comfortably. He didn’t have to worry about being the target of his brother’s ire when he wasn’t around. These efforts garnered success for Liam, but he didn’t count on Levi rearing his ugly head once he realized what it all meant for him.
Liam might not have had the titles, power, or his parent’s love, but he had what Levi lacked: good-standing, a clean record, talent, and more wit. By the time they were in their late teens, Levi was responsible for a number of cruel, depraved acts that commoners would have been jailed or executed for. Their parents had the funds and pull to make the problems go away, but no amount of either would be able to stop the stories from spreading in and around the duchy. He believed himself to be untouchable and was too blinded by the spotlight to see how fast from favor he was falling. Frankly, people in the duchy and in court were sick of his crap. When he realized he was losing to his more studious, soft, pathetic, no-game having loser of a twin brother in the court of public opinion, Levi quietly declared war on him.
They were nineteen when a Stilicidium vessel attacked the steam boat the D’Artanagan family were vacationing on. In the end, the ship was plundered and sunk, and there were few survivors. Liam was lost during the attack and his body was never recovered. The family was grief stricken, having lost a son and a brother to the war activity. Levi was witnessed to have barely spoken during the grieving period he was so broken to have lost his twin.
What really happened on that fateful day, and the events that followed: Levi was the one that really perished that day. An opportunity showed itself, and he was going to use it to get rid of Liam once and for all. There was a scuffle unlike any other for them, and Liam had a feeling if Levi had his way, only one of them would make it back home. In the end Levi found himself hanging off of the railing of the boat. Liam went to pull him up, but in those seconds he acted on a moment of clarity — or an error in judgment, that he sometimes believes it to be now — and let him ‘slip’ out of his hands and into the waves below. When Liam returned home, he found himself being addressed as Levi. At the insistence of his mother, he assumed his brother’s identity. To him, she painted a picture of ruin for not only their family but the Duchy if a succession war started or if the crown got involved. This much was true, and to this day the duchy’s troubles goes deeper than he’s aware of. What he did not realize until years later was that his mother was thinking only of herself; she did not want to lose the wealth and status she’d grown so accustomed to.
So he mourned, but for the loss of his own identity. An identity he gave the twin who didn’t deserve it, and gave up for what he believed would be for the greater good in the long run. Liam, referred to here on out as Levi, continued the charade and knew his twin well enough to fool many people. But over time, he learned just how limitless his brother was when it came to the treatment of other people. With that knowledge came the people his brother hurt, or those who cared for the people he hurt, more than ready to give Levi a taste of his own medicine. And some did. The balancing act of having to pretend to be his brother while trying to preserve the most treasured parts of himself left him feeling weathered, bitter, and with a dislike and distrust of others. Eventually, he withdrew to his duchy, only leaving for official court business when necessary. Invitations — what little he got at that point — went declined or unanswered. The staff of his estate, some who knew him before he could even walk, were dismissed with a severance and positive recommendations and replaced with people mostly unfamiliar with who Levi used to be. He couldn’t control what people thought or what they did, but he could control who and what he surrounded himself with within his own territory.
Both he and his brother realized their photographic memory abilities from a very early age, and Levi could recall memories from further back than most people. It was an advantage in his studies and made for quick and easy referencing. In the days after the boat accident, he noticed something new happening: he was gaining memories that were not his. At first, they came to him without warning, with little effort, and when he touched others. With time the sensitivity died down and Levi initially believed he was only able to read memories. It wasn’t until a blow up with his mother’s lady’s maid that he realized he could do more than just read them. She also carried on an affair with his brother prior to his death, and Levi at first went along with it with the enthusiasm for drinking bitter wine. On the night in question Levi accidentally made her forget not only the both of them, but to his horror other portions of her memory. Learning from the first time, Levi was more careful with the few people that figured it out over the years, eventually learning the full extent of his power. The only person he told was his father, who was on his deathbed when he whispered it to him as a final screw you.
When the letter came for him to go to Utopia Academy, Levi ignored it. Leave the comfort of his home to play school with a bunch of people he had no interest in? No thanks. The opening day came and went, and he went about his business still in Phronese. He went eventually at the strong recommendation of court officials, lest he wanted his Duchy to face certain consequences. But he made his sentiments known: He hates everything about this.
