There doesn't appear to be anything remarkable about them; they have a simple design on the back and though there are no numbers, there are designs to indicate the identity of the card. It seems like a standard deck of playing cards--except, the joker card looks strangely like the monster lurking in the forest. There is something strangely hypnotic about the card, and if you stare at it for too long when you look up again you may see the creature standing before you. By the time you blink he's gone, but a sense of unease lingers in the room afterwards. It had been a long night of avoiding others while in the search for a dwelling that she could claim for her own and Lacerta was beyond exhausted. However being as tired as she was the bandage senshi knew that before she could even consider sleeping that she would have to ensure that her chosen location was indeed safe. There had been whispers from those trapped in the strange village of a beast that roamed the woods and there were also rumors of people going missing and although it worried her greatly Lacerta wondered if the two things were connected or just happened to be random coincidences. Stepping over the threshold of the home she had claimed the young woman glanced around the bare room before sighing. There wasn't exactly much to write home about. She sighed before straightening her spine. There was no time to mope about things that had once been - she had family now - and she was happily settling into said family but there were times when grief would try clawing it's way into her unguarded heart.
Knowing that she needed to at least try and search her new home Lacerta grimaced at the staleness of the room before going to the nearest adjacent room and noting with barely perceived disdain the total lack of amenities. How was someone supposed to take their minds off of monsters and strange fog without a source of distraction? Huffing in annoyance Lacerta's gaze caught on a pile of decorated cards lying inconspicuously on the table. She must have overlooked the cards earlier in her first assessment of the place and idly she flipped over the top card and could only assume these were some sort of playing cards. Dragging the chair to the table the teen sat down and flipped each card over one by one to start discerning the repeating pattern and she sorted the cards into four distinct piles. "I wonder," she mused as she shuffled the cards back into one deck. A card slipped from her shuffling and reaching down to pick it up the teen blanched at the image. The beast that stared back through the card unnerved Lacerta. The sight of antlers on top of it's head gave her a chill. There had been talk in folklore of antlered monsters being nothing but bad news for those that experienced them. Her gaze narrowed on the image and the way that it's eyes seemed to bore into her own sent shivers running down her spine. Figuring that maybe a game of solitaire was now out of the question Lacerta hastily gathered up all the cards before shoving them away from her body. The room had gotten colder and when she dared to glance around the room she was startled enough to let out a yelp of surprise. There, manifesting in the doorway, was the creature from the card and she stumbled over the chair in an effort to escape. Collapsing in a heap the teen trembled in outright terror before daring to peek up towards the doorway again.
Puzzlement crossed her features as the creature was no longer there. Visible shaken and smarting from her tumble over the downed chair Lacerta brushed off her fuku before glancing at the doorway again. Still no monster. What had happened? Had she really seen the creature? Breathing out a small sigh of relief the teen picked up the cards from the table and threw them into the fireplace. She was no longer interested in a game of cards.
