Queen Elentiya Llewellyn
Mother of Princess Flora [age 2] and Crown Prince Edward [age1]
Religious Patron and Devotee of Onera

Queen Elentiya was in no condition to reject and while Dixon was flying back she only made slight noises of protest that were quickly driven away by the wind. Her long blonde hair whipped around her until finally they landed, the queen said nothing so the physician instead nodded her head "Much thanks Count Titanus" she would say as she reached an arm up and moved Elentiya's head up slightly, a harsh sound came from the Queen's throat that sounded like flint striking but the sound vanished just as quickly as the frail and tiny queen kept silent.

The count was simply glad that the queen didn't weigh as much in this human form. They would arrive soundly, the phoenix transforming almost feather by feather. To that, he set aside the curiosity surrounding Elentiya's dragon form. Something to think about...

Quickly, someone was at the door to take them in. The count turned himself sideways and walked the queen into the foyer, setting her on a high-back chair gently. One of the staff was quick to jump into the situation.

    "M-Master, what should I do?"

"Just go get some water from the pitcher." Dixon seemed calm, but it was clear there was mostly a lack of energy with which to panic. Turning his attention to her handler, he said, "You may stay as long as you need... I'm sorry for all of this."

And he began to leave, seeing his servant return with the medicinal water from earlier. A small crystalline cup was handed to the queen and the timid-looking man retreated to his space, seeming to hang on the expectation of the count's command. With a small gesture, he was dismissed.

Princess Esther Drosselmyer of Lionis

She must have lost more blood than she had originally thought. One moment she was talking to Dixon's friend and then next thing she remembers she was slumping over the table and falling asleep. Oh girl, you pride really dose get the better of you doesn't it. Or so Esther scolds herself as she drifted into darkness; Her last thoughts being of her sister whom she could see crying over how Esther was harsh to her.

Upon opening her eyes again the light stung as she takes in the sight of a physician at her bedside. "M'lady, you are awake! This is good news, the count will be delighted to know you are healthy." Before the physician was to get up off his seat Esther placed a hand on his forearm to stop him. "Wait. Could I be the one to deliver the news?" The physician speaks and says, "That would not be wise Lady Esther. You just woke up and we shouldn't risk it."

"Oh, but you must let me. I still have to thank your count for taking me in...and for having you take care of me." The woman's eyes were too kind for the man to refuse and so he would sheepishly take the lady to see his count and voiced, with slight coyness, that Esther wanted to see Count Dixon.

Ah yes. That night had been marked by hushed commands and shifting hands of the most deft members of the count's staff. So it had been needed, so the master had requested and called; many of the more skilled alchemists and physicians, as it so happened, were not scheduled on those days--don't you know the estate was only so big?--and had to be notified at once that a situation required their attention.

Faint voices were heard outside the room when the more timid physician was not speaking. His was the temperament that invited domination and dictation. It wasn't so bad as it sounded. Tall but hunched, lean with a boney, vulture-esque face, the hands of one used to gesturing the lead in the conversation away with undue apology, he was the epitome of timid. His steps were quiet--not because he was an assassin, but the more obvious reason--as he led her downstairs to where Dixon had been talking through a shuffle of breakfast staff about indistinct checkpoints for the day.

"M-Master, the princess would have a word," said the man-nurse tentatively. Somehow, it seemed to cut through the circle of helpers to the count's ear; he held up a hand, halting motion from the others.

"Thank you, Timothy,"--sure it wasn't his name, but his timid nature begged the dubbing--"that will be all." Dixon didn't turn until he heard footsteps of the physician down the stairs; he turned with a bed and breakfast smile to Esther at the top of the stairs. "And how did you sleep, m'lady? Please, breakfast is almost over." He gestured for her to join him and for Bernard and a few cooks to heat some of the eggs leftover. Surely they could stitch something together for her!

She smiles lightly and thanks both Dixon and Bernard for their kindness before walking over to Dixon and giving him a hug from behind, her arms wrapped around his neck as she lowers her lips to his ear. "I've heard lots about what your planning thanks to your silver haired friend, though I'd like to hear from you what are your plans and why did you take me in." She had a silky voice but she wasn't being so coy this time around. She wanted to know how things are, truly, between her and him and what it was he was building in the soon to be independent Ethe.

"Don't you think the master will go to visit Lady Kai soon?" A private conversation in the kitchen between a cook and a butler was something so ordinary that it needn't be hidden anyway. One was flipping two eggs in a skillet and the other was leaning like a sack of potatoes on the back of a chair.

    "Perhaps."

"Then... You must expect the princess to be a common sight on the estate." The thought of it seemed to carry many reasons to stop the chef in his tracks.

"... If that's the case, I'm sure we will be ready."

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

Dixon also wasn't expecting what the princess had brought him. So loving was her touch; he hadn't prepared himself yet to talk business; he sighed and chuckled with breath and expression respectively. "Princess!" Whispered the count, surprised and yet playful. His rough hand curled around one of her wrists, gently stroking her alabaster skin with his thumb. "I didn't know we would be speaking of such serious things at breakfast this morning. To avoid repeating myself, perhaps you'll tell me what Lord Xerseis says?" He knew the game. Was it wrong to simply play along? Dixon leaned his head back to get a look at Esther's face, to hold her steely gaze in his admiration for just a moment. To think that she would question his motives! A bold woman is always an attractive one.

He definitely was a charmer and a bold one at that. Through her dress she could feel his hand upon her, a heat that tickled in such a way it made spine tingle. But she couldn't be falling for his tricks just yet. She could, maybe, allow herself to fall pray to his attentive roughness but right now she needed to know where she fits in all of this and what should she do next now that her life as the emperor's daughter is over. "Ali says a lot of things." Her lips curve with a coo as she moves her hip a little more to his touch before quickly slipping away to take a seat in front of the count; His eyes showing his trust and distrust of her. "But one thing we spoke about was the moves you are making to make Ethe a more powerful kingdom of it's own." Her eyes then caught glint of light as sharp as a knife. "Perhaps a kingdom soon to be your own?"

But as sharp as she was she was still in the dark of his true master plans. She could only assume what little spies she had let would tell her enough of what she needed to know; That lies would not capture her as she walks on their webs as if on a tightrope over the heads of lions. "I guess what I really want to know is...why did you take me in? You said you still see me as someone of worth, but my worth was only that when I was the princess. Why take a risk and hold me now in your home?" She did want to survive, who doesn't, but what if Evelyn should change her mind and wish for Esther's head on a spit? Could the man really keep her here?

Dixon did love the subtle cues from the princess almost as much as the wit that drove them. Perhaps this was the real reason she was wanted. Th count allowed himself to drift into some kind of alpha state--the first jana, if you will--folding against his wrist and crossing his legs as the princess sat before him. His other hand unfurled and signalled that she should continue if she should be distracted by his blissfully closed eyes.

"My lady," he said, soft and smooth, rolling over his vowels like a carriage. "I know not what you know about my influence, but suffice to say Ethe owes its prosperity to me." Never one to back down, he would state this claim with the utmost casualty. "If I would pursue the crown in earnest, what would that mean to you, mm?" He would allow her to answer this before addressing her second concern.

"I took you in for several reasons." And he began to list them. "Personal: I quite enjoy your company and find that seeing you shunned like the rest of your siblings does not suit you. Political: I wish to make a statement to punctuate Ethe's independence; those who sympathise with the tired old empire will feel disgusted with us; those of them that continue to trade will be forced to see people like us as individuals, virtuous and valuable. Security: Just as with the duke, friends do well to bundle and hunker against the storm of opposition, no matter how oppressive; I believe we can come to grow stronger together than apart." --all of which were counted on his fingers until he waved off the chain of thoughts. "--Plenty of reasons." His hand was tumbling something, some invisible marble of pondering.

"Do you really think you're a liability? I know better." His eyes opened, fixing on hers with a playful nudging that was perhaps only to keep the mood civil.

She smiled at the man's cocky ways. Perhaps it was because he was confident that she didn't pose a threat to him, or perhaps it was because she was already tethered up in his webs of lies; And with every pluck of a sting from his fingers the tighter the threads could grip onto her body. She didn't expect to have him question her so straight forward about the very rumor she said she heard which made her lips curve into a smirk as she thoughtfully tapped a finger upon her pink kisser; A hum and a second later she was ready to be real. "Honestly, it wouldn't mean a thing to me if you pursued the crown. What would matter to me is whether you succeed or fail in your endeavor."

She wasn't one to pull punches because she had nothing left to lose. Not only that, it's in her heart to be this way. So when the count listed off his reasons for having her she began seeing a future here in Ethe. It wasn't perfect, and her envisioned future was a little blurry, but still she could see herself become something important again. His words were like a lifesaver to keep her from drowning in his dismay, and while she had been keeping up her tough princess act she was, deep down, worried for her life and well-being.

"You have a brilliant mind Dixon." She purred as she leaned over the table and runs her fingers underneath his chin; Her body accentuated by the way she curved her spine and let her body do all the flirting. "It's a surprise you haven't seized Ethe's crown by now." But before she say another word she'd lean in and give the man a sweet kiss upon his cheek with her hand then caressing his jawline as her blue eyes try to hypnotize him with what she's projecting. "I thank you for keeping me safe. That is why my loyalty shall belong to you."

Dixon seemed to be enjoying himself. For a moment, sure, he considered bedding her down right now and moving ahead with their life together, she riding his coattails and keeping him honest--and really, why not? it wasn't as though she would instantly throw out what she had told him that night before; this was a woman concerned with maidenhood as well as her continued growth, but damned if he wasn't tempted to test how far that resolution would last--but that passed as soon as he was able to see into her eyes. His face was that of one who was in control, seeing her as more valuable that what she was presenting him with and hoping his next move didn't offend her too much. With a soft chuckle the count leaned up to the princess and reached to hold her porcelain cheek as he stole a quick but no less potent kiss from her coral lips.

"You're very lovely to say so," he whispered, voice a low, tumbling purr in the still morning air. He pulled up and past her in one smooth motion, offering a hand. "Breakfast will only come twice today, m'lady."

Afterward, the count had planned a sort of excursion for the day. He seemed very excited, rolling out waves of orange and pink energy unseen to untrained eyes as he darted in and out of thin doorways in the second floor of the estate. During the wait, Bernard and the rest of the staff were charged with entertaining the princess to the peak of their abilities.

Finally, the count returned from his mission with a somewhat more mobile-looking dress in hand. "Esther, darling?" he called from the top of the stairs. "If it's not too much bother, I'd like to give you a tour of the land." His smile was more than he could hide (not that the man had by any means mastered the art of concealing emotions over the years. He had always taken the route of brutish honesty, charging ahead always, instead).

Princess Esther Drosselmyer of Lionis

Loyalty and Body were two different things, but by gods it was hard not to give them both to this man who so stole such an innocent kiss. It was short lived but that sensation of his breath upon her lips was not. Even after he pulled away she swears she could still feel him there; A finger to touch her soft lips before seating her self properly again. Breakfast was indeed delicious and it seems somewhat nutritious, what with there being many greens in this land. Rumor had it that all the animals did die here after the strange barrier fell from around Ethe. What was it that caused such calamity, Esther pondered over her meal. Thankful, Bernard had been asked to keep her company. Esther always piece together the oddest little puzzles with information and when left alone; Her being a critical thinker and whatnot. But there was Bernard to tell her more about the count's home to occupy her mind, so her curious nature would subside for now.

After a good cup of tea in a reading room Dixon's voice called out the woman's name and without her realizing it she had smiled true. It seems there are still people that cared to have her around and would not look down on her for her lost of station. "I'm coming dear Dixon!" She giggle a little, it sounding as if they were young sweethearts; But she only played around because she thought he was playing a game as well. With silently nimble feet she hurried to the opposite side to come up another set of stairs and hug the man from behind in a surprise attack. "What is it Dixon?" She asked like a curious kitten, that is until she seen the dress and brightened up like a cat to a ball of yarn. "Dixon, is that for me?"

Of course, the man had been looking at the princess while he called down to her. It was hard to imagine she could simply sneak up on him. He waited, listened, found the length of the back of his neck tingling with the heightened senses; alas, he couldn't pinpoint the exact moment at which Esther would wrap her deadly-lovely arms around his shoulders.

"Of course," said the count, smiling, tilting forward just a bit. He turned and held the dress out for his guest. "I think it's about time we got going, mm?"

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

And after the princess changed the tour could finally commence. The count had seen that it was important for anyone with her power--and now loyalty--to know in detail the lay of the land, where things were, how they worked. It was less a gamble to him and more a celebration. Was he not a major player in the country's rebirth? Perhaps he found it his duty to rebuild all around him, including people?

The countryside was full of sun and growth where there wasn't construction going on; nothing would be hidden or dressed up on this tour. The clean up effort was going very well in the states under the count's watch. They had cleared the major roadways--including the auspicious skyway that connected them to Phobos and Bellris in addition to the top half of the country to itself--and had started in force on the residential areas; thanks to the project commissioned by the high councilwoman, the rural areas had been relieved of a significant amount of soot. Where the land was clean it was fertile, lithe and green with the continuing remnants of the goddess' gift. Dixon seemed quite proud.

They had only time for a cursory flight around the new city of Aragune, but it was explained to Esther its significance and what it meant to have an autonomous bank and places of worship at home, to say nothing of having what could be called a second capital outside the royal lands, in his land. After they would set aside land for the princess to build a house and an account with the newly independent bank, to today they enjoyed snacks in a quiet nook of a mountain pass and the sights of progress.

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

"I do hope it was enjoyable for you, m'lady," said the count lowly on the back of a phoenix on the trip back to the estate.

Ali Ababva, Lord Xerseis

User Image

Gone's the wisdom
Of a thousand years
A world in fire and chains and fear

The crystal dragon, after of course familiarly greeting the guards, marched into the estate almost as soon as he was let inside. He seemed to have been a little more excitable than usual, as there was much that seemed to be on his mind at that particular moment. Somewhere in the central chamber, where he was sure his voice would carry the best, he took in as much air as he could. He would then use his royal voice, deep and guaranteed to reverberate off of the splendor about him. He wanted to be heard.

"The great Lord Xerseis calls upon the bright feathered Lord of Titania! Come forth, bold feather, for there is aught I would say!!"

Leads me to a place so far
Deep down it lies my secret vision
I better keep it safe

Baroness Youkimi Kai

Lacking the exuberance of the silver-headed male, who clearly didn't seem to notice her as he sped past the guards and into the building, Youkimi felt astonished. Had she met this stranger before? He came with no entourage or guard, and he wore no colors.... He seemed very casually dressed... was this a friend of Dixon's that she didn't know? Perhaps from the country or citizenry?

She wasn't sure she would get her answers from the others. She paused at the gate to inquire of the guards who the man was. They answered easily, giving his title as well as his name and homeland.

From Phoebos? Dixon's reach was impressive.

She gave her thanks and entered somewhere behind the... dragon... who seemed to think it wise to stand in the central hallway and bellow like a herald.

Was this truly a Lord of Phoebos? She frowned slightly, hoping that he wouldn't carry on too much, as it was beginning to hurt her ears. Worried that he would start up again, she excused herself to one of the drawing rooms, where she would simply await the lord of the castle.

Of course the count wasn't expecting company in this way (Perhaps he would have expected or been warmer to the idea of one of his staff members, his eyes and ears, telling him of something urgently trivial happening in the mountain city of Aragune as the regent had posited.), so when he heard shouting in the foyer he was snapped bolt upright like a misplaced rake under clumsy feet. Papers flew from his desk like the feathers of a startled molting hen. Before the other staff could come to put out the verbal fire started by the normally reserved dragon, Dixon was spilling over the top of the steps.

Elsewhere, Esther was free as a bird and safe as a pearl in its oyster. She would be able to enjoy all the niceties of the estate without feeling so tied down by work. In the field a short walk from the house there were soldiers running drills, and in a little house on a hill a sculptor was hard at work. Of course, if she preferred the company of the count she could also stay in and watch his mind at work, ploughing through stacks of trivial things like a boar through the thicket.

"Now you look!" Not seeing who it was until he was a few steps down, the count toppled over his own momentum just a bit, tumbling in thudded steps until he was at the feet of the crystal duke with a kind of animalistic fury in his eyes. The energy did dissipate from his countenance, but it was clear that his past had left him with the reflexes of war. "... How, then, old boy."

He came to stand eye-to-eye with the dragon, lowering his voice in the hope he would follow. He extended a hand at his side, sliding across the dark carpet into a small hallway. A voice came from behind him--Bernard, lowly--telling him that the regent had also arrived. Very well. He flowed into that small drafting room and seated himself across from Youkimi at a circular table with a wonderful sculpture made of nameless volumes in the center and gesturing for Xerseis to do the same. "Please. Let's be quick and smart."

Gone's the wisdom

A world in fire and chains and fear

Xerseis took some amusement to startling the count in his home, but he knew better than to irritate startled emotions with his words, and showed his amusement with a chuckle. He would take the hint, of course, especially when it was reinforced by the words of the trusted butler. The regent had also arrived? Perhaps it was just before he landed, he mused, as the count hadn't stepped down until the lord had said something....

He might have stepped on Bernard's toes a bit while doing that, and he saw fit to apologize to the butler right then. He would follow the direction Dixon gestured, to a room, where comfortably sat already was a woman with the composure of a snow-covered mountain. For a second, and only the briefest instance, Xerseis thought he saw someone else there. It occurred to him, in that moment, that he hadn't officially met Ethe's regent face to face.

He took his seat.

"Then where do we begin?"

Baroness Youkimi Kai

Seated and patiently waiting, when the men arrived, she respectfully turned to look. Things seemed casual enough between the dragon and phoenix, she noted, as they didn't stand on much ceremony with each other. In fact, they didn't bother with titles or making a fuss over her presence as they sat down. The dragon, likely following Dixon's lead, didn't think twice about sitting down.

.... Youkimi wasn't sure how to feel about that.

Nevertheless, she understood prudence and had once given up on formality of rank. Bowing as a practice was well-utilized in her home region, but she would not enforce it among friends if there was no need to do so. She did not need to impress anyone here. ....

"I do not believe we have met..."

The dragon turned her way and offered a smile. He inclined his head. "I cannot say that we have, your excellency. Though tales of your collected radiance do you little credit."

Youkimi did not seem to register the compliment, in the dragon's estimation, for she was calm and collected still. Was she used to being complimented? Perhaps that was a fair assumption.

As for the blue-plumed phoenix, she wondered why there was the sudden change in demeanor when she said something to him. Perhaps Dixon could explain further?
