He adjusted Saliva to his other hand, giving the other a rest by switching and shaking his one arm out before firing again. Constant firing did a number to your arms from the shock back.

Joy couldn't understand it. Why did it almost feel like it hurt to strike the heart? It wasn't her heart, yeah? Bert, never talkative even at the best of times, his presence was almost being drowned out by the sound.
Joy pushed past it. Almost hurt wasn't the same as real hurt.

Noah hung back, trying not to breathe too hard. The heat and the now-frantic rhythm of the heart were making it almost impossible to think. Why did it feel like his own heartbeat? Why was he so reluctant to hit it? He'd been doing fine.
