Brian shook his head again. Flatterer.
"I think I mostly worry about the inside," he said, "I'm done with boring and I'm done with constantly vulnerable, and I'm done with sugary-sweet. I dunno. Some people are into that, just not me." He took another swig of beer. "I like something new, you know? Something unpredictable... to the point where it's still fun, I mean. I'm done with people who fall for the uniform and not the person, too. Not that I have much of a choice in that any more."
He was less bothered by that than he thought he'd be. Maybe this was an up-side to it all. He had at least one filter against shallow women. Of course he was also rambling and that was a bit embarrassing, so even if eel it his ears were beginning to color at the tips.

Misha spotted the faint coloring of his ears and bit her bottom lip to keep from smiling. What he said made sense, though, and it was too serious to tease him about as well. It also did not surprise her very much. Brian was smart and sensible and very much an adult; it only fit that image to know he valued a personality and depth more than a flashy exterior. It only made her like and respect him more. "Well, if it's any consolation, I would have said the uniform was just a cherry on the sundae of you." While the words were slightly silly, it was easy to tell Misha meant them. Her entire expression held honesty and affection. "I haven't seen you in it, well, except for that picture but I still think you're handsome and a really great guy."

Brian laughed.
"Thanks. That's the way I like it," he said with a nod. "I got to keep most of my police uniform, just not the badges. You get to keep your dress blues legitimately when you leave the army, though. For weddings or whatever." He shrugged yet again. "I'm flattered to be a 'sundae' to you."
He winked, leaving the meaning of the wording a bit out of reach. Was he teasing? Serious?
"How about you? What do you like on the inside? Aside from maybe a gooey caramel center." Because sundaes and all.

Misha laughed. "Mmm, gooey caramel," she purred before her humor broke up the attempt at sultry. She stuck her tongue out at him. "Now you're just teasing me and here I am, spilling all of my inner girly secrets." She poked him in the side with a finger but almost immediately shifted to lean into his shoulder. She squirmed a moment to make herself comfortable. "What do I like on the inside?" she repeated suddenly. "I like passion, I guess. I like it when a guy cares about something. Really cares. It can be his job or a hobby or family." She sent Brian a sideways grinning glance. "Of course, being passionate about me, too, counts. But only in addition to other things. I never want to do the stalker walk again."

Brian just grinned. He didn't move when she came to lean on him, though. She was allowed to be about as close as she wanted.
"What if it's all job and no Misha, though, hm?" He raised his brows. He knew guys who had lost wives over that sort of thing, and it hadn't even been a real unbalance. Being a cop was hard.
"Wait, wait. Stalker walk? Do I have to punch somebody?"

s**t. He felt her tense slightly beside him as he caught her slip and, being Brian, focused on it. She contemplated her options. Flippant worked. She knew if she said something silly and distracting, he would bow to that. Brian would not push her if she really did not want to say something. However, she trusted him and never wanted him to think she didn't. Blindly, she slipped her hand into his. "It was a while ago," she murmured. "Nothing to worry about. I took care of it." A while ago might have been a stretch by some definitions but Misha considered 2 years more than enough time. She rested her temple more intimately against his shoulder. "He wasn't dangerous. Just... A little hung up on me."

Their hands slid together easily, as per usual. Brian saw it as an attempt to draw comfort and perhaps a little bit of reassurance for him as well. He would have gladly scared this guy away for Misha if she hadn't already but, being Misha, of course she had.
"Good. As long as he's gone." Not that anyone could really stalk you to the Prytaneum with the Hearth and all. "Who wouldn't get hung up on you?" He lifted her hand and kissed the back. It was a clear go-ahead that he wasn't going to ask any more if she didn't want to share.

"Uh oh." Misha did not move from his side and her tone did not sound at all concerned but... "Are you getting hung up on me, Brian Watterly?" He could just about hear the giggle beneath the words but there was something else, too. Something honestly curious and, if she were truthful, the idea would not bother her much at all.

"First woman in my apartment in God Knows How Long? Pssh." He brought his beer to his lips and sipped, realizing with dawning horror that that was entirely true. When had he invited a girl over last? It certainly hadn't been for beer and pizza, either. By God. Was he getting hung up on Misha?
He offered her a wink and a smile while the mouth of the bottle came away and he set it on the table.
"When's the last time you were on a date? Like a real date." Everyone had flings every once in a while. It wasn't worth holding against anyone.

"Before the chat room got inappropriately chatty with me," Misha admitted with a soft chuckle. "We went to see an outdoor play and had dinner and drinks afterwards. Nice walk in the park." She shared a little wicked smile with him. "I'd say it was a pretty good one to end on. How about you?"

"Ooh, nice," Brian said with a nod, and then set his brow and said: He was a bit of the romantic type himself. Around his buddies he always had to tone it down, but he liked to show a lady what they didn't always get, body parts notwithstanding.
"Uhhh..." He tilted his head up and thought. Man, he really had to think. "Second date, brought a girl to dinner and decided it wasn't working. Waaay too long ago. Well before the talking dog."

"Well, you were busy before the dog and you've been busy since." Misha twisted in her seat and wriggled up more until she could rest her chin on Brian's shoulder. She smiled serenely at him. "We keep you jumping, Handsome. I know I'm pretty demanding of your time and attention. Whoops."

Brian's smile returned, and his eyes shone in a warm and pleasant way.
"Nah, don't worry about it. I like spending time with you. I haven't had friends to just hang around with in a long time. I mean, the police force is a brotherhood and all, but it mostly stays at work unless someone retires." Plus he was pretty sure he'd lost some of them now. At least he had made plans to see Candace again. It would be good to catch up.

"Alright, then. Just remember you said that, Brian." Misha shifted again and pressed her cheek against his shoulder, outright laying her head there. She closed her eyes and exhaled on a happy little sigh. "I'm glad," she admitted. "I like spending time with you, too. You really are one of the high points of this new gig." There was a moment of silence as her words sunk in. Both for him and her. Then she cracked open an eye and laughed under her breath. "The movie is almost over. We're really bad at this 'watching movies together' thing."

The silence was pleasant, almost meaningful. He was a high point? When it came to the Prytaneum and the Chosen, the highs were very high and the lows were very low. They had to even out for it to be worth it. To be a light of good in this mess really meant something to Brian. After a moment he kissed the nearest to her hair that he could at this angle and then laughed.
"Yeah, well. It isn't really about the movies anyway."
