Once again, Kiani lost her partner. The wooper took him out easily. She glared at the wooper, "Since you killed my companion. It's only fair that you take his place." She said. In the back of her mind, she'd abandon him the moment she found something better. Reaching into the pack she had been given by her teacher, she got one of her three pokeballs and flung it, as hard as she could, at the wooper's head. Whether she caught wooper or not didn't really matter, she'd be fine if she just hurt it. Either way, she knew she was going to continue on until she could convince a pokemon to join her.

As fate, a particularly cruel mistress today, would have it the ball would miss, landing into the bog and sinking into the murk; but that was ok! She still had two more! There really wasn't going to be a better chance than this!

Kiani didn't know if she wanted to waste a pokeball on this wooper, but she did need a new partner. So, sighing, she threw a second pokeball. If she didn't catch him, she'd simply walk on.

...Luck was really not on the girl's side as the pokeball sailed high, landing in the bog like the one before it. She was down to one ball, but weakened as it was it was still her best, maybe even only, chance of successfully completing the mission.

No matter how much she wanted to, Kiani couldn't make herself walk away. Sighing and kissing her third and final pokeball. She threw it at the wooper. If she didn't catch him, she could only imagine what would happen to her stay at the school.

This time the ball would fly straight and true, striking the Wooper right between the eyes. Sucked inside the ball would hit the lilypad and begin shaking. Once....twice....thrice....and then the button would cool, loosing a small tone. Kiani had done it! She'd captured her first Pokemon!

Kiani frowned when the pokeball clicked closed. However, at least part of her mission was complete. She rolled her eyes and picked up the pokeball before releasing her new companion. "Alright then, your name shall be Korbin. Now let's go complete this mission." She said, walking forward and leaving Nero's corpse on the lilypad. When she was a little bit away, she seemed to recall that he was hurt and turned to pull the potion out of her bag. "Don't make me regret this." Kiani said, healing him. Together with her new partner, she continued on her mission.

Kiani and Korbin hopped from lilypad to lilypad, while Korbin occasionally dove into the water to come up a few lilypads ahead. She frowned, she still hadn't forgiven him for killing Nero. Kiani loved fire types, they were her favorite, so she was still a bit angry. Still, she needed a partner and when she found a way to make money, she knew she'd get more pokeballs and go and capture another one for herself.
Luck was on their side so far, as they hadn't come across any other pokemon yet. Kiani's mind wasn't on the mission anymore. Instead, she was thinking about Nero and her failure. She had failed Balrog and then Nero had been killed in battle. She felt like a jinx. Her foot slipped off the lilypad and into the water, causing Kiani to fall to her knees. She wasn't sure she wanted to rise.

This time the girl would encounter a Yanma. Unlike the Wooper before however this Pokemon seemed completely uninterested in the girl. It wasn't even facing her. Just hovering slowly above the water, inspecting reeds and other plants looking for a nibble.

Kiani froze, hearing a buzzing sound. Korbin kept moving forward for a while til he noticed that she stopped. Kiani turned eyes to a yanma buzzing over the surface of the water and she was glad that it was ignoring them. While she could stand some of the bug types, she actually had a slight fear of any bug type that could fly....it just creeped her out. So, she moved forward and didn't bother the pokemon, just wanting to finish her mission and leave.
Next the girl would spot a Barboach, playfully leaping out of the waves. It would be her choice to fight it or ignore it, but for how long could her luck last?
