As Ambra and Mika come to the tower they see a worrying scene before them. The little mage decides she needs to act fast. She quickly moves to the ground of the angry crowd and speaks in as loud and authoritative a voice as her tiny body can muster.

"Ladies, gentleman please calm down. As you are all well aware, a grievous attack took place on this town last night. The Mayor herself has formed a special task force to investigate this matter. We are two such members of this task force and I promise you, we will get to the bottom of this! However, there is a chance more wild animals will wander into town this evening, so please return to your homes and make sure they are safe and well barricaded. This task force and the town guard will put an end to this matter as soon as possible!"

@ Aelgeirr:

"Oh! Sure, if ya want. Just..." The man would look around at his building supplies, then point out some planks of wood. "Just go ahead, and nail these into place over the damaged section of wall over yonder. Now let's see... that rowdy group you say? Let me think..."

You're an Eladrin. Normally the structures you are used to seeing constructed or repaired, are wrested from the dimensional plane that all arcane energy is drawn from, or done in communion with nature itself with the blessing of the feywild. Surely, this primitive human structure can't be that hard to repair. Taking a board, nail, and hammer, you kneel down, ready to secure it into place.

"Ah! I know!" the man would say, as you tap the nail once with your tool. "They were the party of a young man, who was the son of-

KA-KRASSSHHHH!!!

The entire front face of the inn, the entire wall, would collapse. Many rooms were exposed to the street, where people were interrupted in their varied activities of sleeping, praying, using a bedpan, writing letters... all eyes turn to you.

The innkeeper man would be beat red, shaking visibly.

"I... think... you should... go now..."

--------------------

@ Ambra, Mika:

As the crowd turns towards you, the half-orc guard said a quiet prayer of relief.

"Oh yeah? I find it highly unlikely the mayor would deputize children like yourselves!"
"You two don't look like you could investigate your way out of a wet paper lantern!"
"We want answers, not babysitting duties!"
"Go back to school, where it's safe. Let the grown ups handle this."
"Leave? Pfft. It's not like we're currently under attack..."

KA-KRASSSHHHH!!!

"WE'RE UNDER ATTACK!"

The crowd would immediately disperse in a panic, fleeing in every which way, while the guards were just... a mix of relieved and confused.

"I don't know how you did that, with that crash, but thanks," the young man would say, smiling awkwardly at you.

Mikah, the faithful seeker.

The half-elf jumped at the sound of the crash which turned out to be very startling to her. She turned around back to the town trying to figure what it could had been.- Please don't be one of our guys!- she thought to herself as she bit her lip.

She turned her head when the guard thanked them for the distraction.- I... Uhm... We didn't do that. You should go see what happened, We need to examine the tower anyway.- The girl smiled at the guard hoping they wouldn't have any objections.

Ambra's fiendish blood began to boil because of the villagers making fun of her. A voice in the back of her head told her to burn them all, show them that she meant business. However, she had gotten quite good at ignoring that little voice.

As the little mage girl contemplated how to get the crowd back on the right track, there came a loud noise from town in the direction of the inn, causing the angry villagers to scatter. Ambra was about to run in that direction to investigate when she heard Mikah's words. "Wha? Shouldn't we go investigate ourselves? There could be an attack going on over there! People could be getting hurt! This tower isn't going anywhere; we should go see if they need help!"

The Eladrin would nod solemnly and go in a random direction! Guess he'll be unwelcome at the Inn... As far as the info goes....One seems to be a young human. Lots of info from that. Aelgeirr would then try the bar. Maybe, just maybe they'd remember someone who went through town there.

@ Aelgeirr:

You leave the scene of the crime! And by leave, I mean you do a 180 and walk across the street.

The Silver Spoon wasn't... quite in a random direction, it was across the street. It had a "CLOSED" sign upon their door. You do think you hear someone inside, though.

--------------------

@ Ambra, Mika:

A minute's jog would get you to a familiar part of town, the inn and tavern you spent some time in last night before things went to hell in a handbasket. Though the inn was... hard to recognize, with the huge pile of debris all around, and a missing front wall.

A man, you presume staff, was angrily talking with militia who had shown up, and of course, there were bystanders gawking.

When he saw the two of you, he would point at you. "NO! No more adventurers! Your kind has helped enough!" He was downright furious.

Didn't that Eladrin you fought with, Aelgeirr, say he was going here? There certainly isn't any sign of any monsters right now.

Aelgeirr would knock carefully this time. *KNOCK* *KNOCK* *KNOCK* "Hello! Anyone in there? I'm helping the town. I'd like to ask a few questions.
PostPosted: Tue Aug 11, 2015 4:30 pm

@ Aelgeirr:

A few moments would pass, before a voice would speak up from within.
"Sorry, we're closed due to the tragedy of last night." Whomever the speaker, they don't seem to be approaching the door.

Ambra seemed a bit confused by the scene going on in front of her. At least there wasn't anyone being attack. She would leave the innkeeper to his anger and head back to the tower. Once she had returned to the tower she would politely explain to the guards how they had been deputized by the mayor to investigate the missing Orb of Kendor and ask if they could go inside to look around.

"I"m here to help with that! All I want to do is ask a few questions." The Eladrin said as he looked over his shoulder.

@ Ambra & Mika:

Abandoning the dead end of the inn, you would return to the tower.

"What? But you're-" the guard would say after the explanation, but after eyeing Mika and Ambra, apparently he thought twice about finishing that sentence.

Assuming you present the documentation required, he would look to his comrade, and eventually come to a decision. "Ah, I... I guess that's all right. Come on, Mikael."

The two would turn to the door, each taking out separate keyrings. It would apparently take both to unlock the door; the keyrings contained more keys than was required, and there was a chance that many were decoys, and the sequence of which locks to unseal in order was not intuitive either.

After a minute, they would pull open the heavy door, which did jingle with some bells on the inside of it. Inside, was a 15'-diameter chamber with an altar in the center, shaped like a dragon's talon and amber of hue. It looked like it should be gripping some sort of spherical object, but it was empty.

The structure itself was made of very tightly packed granite stones, and the chamber was an elliptical-shaped dome, the ceiling ending in a rounded point (with no way up to the parapets above, which were probably only constructed for show). The ground was the same tightly packed dirt as the ground outside, however, but it appeared undisturbed from outside.

--------------------

@ Aelgeirr:

Some time passes, before you eventually hear someone approach the door. A man unlocks and opens it, with a mop in one hand (most of the blood from the battle had not been cleaned yet). "Sorry about the mess. Some monsters had attacked people in here before they were killed. I lost my best waitress in the carnage. I'm... I really can't spare much time, so please, make this quick."

He remained in the doorway, apparently not inviting you in.

"We did what we could last night. I'm sorry for your loss." The warlord opened up. "I've been asked to investigate what happened last night. With your help, we can get the ones who caused all of this. What I need to know from you is, do you remember any rowdy newcomers that came within a week or so from today? I need you to think hard about it, because the only thing I have to go on is that one of them was a human who was the son of someone noteable."

@Aelgeirr:

The man would frown a bit at the questions. "That describes the kind of people I see every other week. No one of..." he pauses, thinking of the words. "Particularly malicious intent, have been around these parts in ages."

He adjusts his stance, before continuing. "Why would someone want to bring down a legion of monsters on their location? Or have they lifted the ban on people leaving already?"

As the guard began to talk Ambra would glare at him as if daring him to complete his sentence. However he would simply check her papers and let her in, much to her relief. Once inside she would glance around a bit at the slightly ornate chamber. Ambra was a little afraid to go too far inside and potentially disturb some sort of clue. The place looked undisturbed, which she felt couldn't be the correct. She would begin to look for and magic residue or sign of arcane tampering since physical evidence wasn't readily visible (27 Arcana check).

@ Ambra:

Good thinking! With such an impressive Arcana check, you learn the following things:

  • You feel this spot is definitely a good convergence point for leyline activity. If YOU were an all-powerful wizard, this is where you'd stick your McGuffin.
  • Any trace of the Orb of Kendar is gone. You don't even think it's a short distance away.
  • The general "energy" of the area is definitely very negative. Being a Tiefling, with some far, extremely removed diabolic heritage, you do feel a twinge of... well, evil, like it's pulling on you ever so slightly to do harm... but you're able to ignore it with minimal willpower. You're confident that it would have more influence over mindless beasts, due to lack of free will.
  • And most importantly...
  • You sense the leftover energy signature of teleportation. EXTREMELY short ranged. Two uses, one about half a day ago, one about a full day. The only reason you can tell that much is because of how recently it was used; any longer, and it would have faded.
