After they entered the city Hikaru grew quiet as she focused heavily on trying to sense and separate the many auras around them without getting overwhelmed. Since Hakuren was quiet as well, they shared a comfortable walk through the city, following Arezu and her map. The device she was using to navigate was new, purchased in Vermillion. Her old one she had thrown out, just in case. She was reasonably sure that her pokedex didn't have any bugs or trackers in it, so that she had kept.
Arezu was, however, running low on money after her recent purchases, and decided to seek out some trainers between Saffron and Celadon. Assuming she was able to win, she would be able to build up a comfortable amount of pocket change for meals. If she was going to try to make a secret base, she definitely needed to be making money somehow. She still didn't know exactly how that was going to work, but now that she wanted one she was definitely going to make it.
The dojo stood out from its surroundings, sporting architecture clearly designed to reflect its purpose. Once they were inside, Arezu noticed with interest the change in Hikaru's demeanor. Perked ears, serious eyes drinking in the surroundings. She also noticed the smell, a strangely energizing rubbery smell that came from the mats and punching bags that was joined by the unmistakable waft of sweat.
Hardwood ran the length of the wall at the entrance, in stark contrast to the mats that lay in the dojo itself, where the action took place. There was a cubby half-full, so Arezu took her shoes off and stored them while Hakuren's illusion went through the motions. There was some sort of small class going on in one corner, and in another a hitmonchan and hitmonlee were taking turns at a punching bag.
A young man with black hair cut to fuzz poked his heat out of a room to the side. When he spotted the newcomers he smiled, white teeth dazzling, and loped over on bare feet. He wore a blue uniform lined with black, which had no meaning to Arezu whatsoever. "Hey," he addressed them, including Hikaru. "This your first time here?"
Arezu and Hikaru nodded, though Hakuren felt the need to pipe up. "We're here for her." He jerked a thumb towards Hikaru. The guy smiled, "Ah, you sure? You two could join in too. It's a lot of fun." Arezu shook her head no. "We aren't really here to join.. there's a kind of training challenge, right?"
If their response was disappointing, the guy didn't show it. "Ohh, you're here for the battle challenge. Yeah, we can set that up for you. Come on out on the mats, I'll get everyone. My name's Ani by the way." He danced backward, but paused. "You might want to take your socks off too. It gets slippery if you aren't barefoot." He knocked the side of the cubby cheerfully and loped off.
Hakuren opted to wait on one of the benches at the entrance while Arezu and Hikaru walked out on the mats. They stood awkwardly until the instructor of the small class in the corner stepped forward. "Join us," he invited. Arezu and Hikaru shared a look. "Uhh, I think we're good. I'm not wearing...the right thing," Arezu said, waving a hand towards the class, all wearing proper uniforms. "That's okay."
It was difficult to ignore the looks of the entire class and the instructor, so Arezu sighed and quietly shuffled to a spot in the back line. Hikaru took up space next to her, obviously already "in uniform". Arezu figured it wouldn't be too long until the Ani guy came back, and at least they were at the back so no one could see her flailing around. And even Hikaru had to double-check her stance as they followed along in punching and kicking drills.
It actually wasn't all that bad, but Arezu was still a bit annoyed when she noticed Ani walking around the edges instead of coming to get them. Despite that she stuck with the class, going so far as to attempt sparring without having any equipment. She felt more awkward and out of place than ever, but her partner, and the others in the class, were surprisingly welcoming.
When the class was over, Arezu and Hikaru lingered on the mats as Ani bounded up, a grin on his face. Arezu rolled her eyes. "So, saw you joined in. You guys have fun?" He paused to watch as she stretched her arms at early onset soreness. "Sure, it was kind of cool to try it." It was also neat to have trained alongside Hikaru.
"Did you find the guys for the challenge battle?" she asked. Ani bobbed his head knowingly. "Yep. Sorry you had to wait, but if you want just stay here and I'll go get them."
After Ani had padded off yet again, Hikaru stepped closer to Arezu. "I enjoyed doing this together," she said. Both of them already knew it, but the lucario wanted to say it aloud. "I... would not mind doing something like it again." Hikaru's words caused Arezu to consider her. It was rare the lucario hinted at asking for something for herself.
After that, it was time for a more traditional battle. A clear space in the middle would be their field, and their opponents would be fighting pokemon. Not the best matchup for Hikaru, unfortunately.

Hikaru huffed, her body feeling bruises deep, a dull thud that was familiar to her as a part steel type. Fighting against an enemy that had a type advantage while she did not, especially when she was partly the same type as them, was...more frustrating than anything she had experienced before. She rubbed at the steel spikes on her paws, thinking that it was the first time she'd felt it to be a weakness. Still, she felt fine after the battle, and smoothed her fur while the master recalled his pokemon and handed Arezu the pokeball holding a trogue inside.
Arezu glanced at Hikaru, then turned back and called out to Ani. "Hey, Ani!" She hurried up to him and began to ask, aware the entire time Hikaru could hear them, "I was thinking... I know you probably weren't serious about saying we should come back, but... well I guess I was wondering if maybe we could come to some more classes?" She was surprised to see his face brighten with genuine excitement. "You kidding? That'd be awesome!"
Arezu rubbed her arm, not used to...well...being wanted anywhere. "But it costs money, right? I don't really have enough to afford this kind of stuff." That made Ani pause, eyes darkening with thought. Of course, he lit up again when he had an idea. "That's okay. You know, you fought pretty well there. I'm sure if you and your friend," he nodded to Hikaru, "Wanted to stick around and help the dojo pokemon train, we could call it even. I'd have to ask the masters, but I'm sure it'd be fine."
Arezu, turned around by the whole situation and the lack of outs to it, nodded dumbly. When Ani mentioned that she would have to pay for her own uniform though, she pulled out half of her current funds and handed them over, then watched as he pulled out a proper uniform from a bench doubling as a storage unit. She listened quietly as he spoke up about how she'd eventually need to buy sparring gear, but for now she could make do with her uniform and spar no-contact. Then she watched in a shell-shocked way as he jogged away, leaving her standing with Hikaru and Hakuren and a brand new, starch-stiff uniform in her hands.
Arezu actually felt a bit embarrassed, and was pointedly avoiding Hikaru's eyes and the excitement she could practically feel radiating off of the lucario. "I dunno, it's not a big deal. I just kind of thought... well, it couldn't hurt to know how to defend myself, right? And it was kind of fun...I guess..." Her answer had Hakuren groaning and slumping on the bench he'd spent the past hour parked on. "Seriously? And how long are we gonna hang around this city so you can do whatever this is?"
Hakuren's attitude was getting to Arezu. "I'm sure you'll be able to figure something out," she spat, stuffing her new uniform in her bag. "For now we're going to the pokemon center." She fumed silently as they walked, grateful Hikaru picked up on her mood and didn't try to talk and even attempted to reign in her own good mood.
At the pokemon center Arezu dropped off her pokemon to heal. She went in the back to the laundry room, peeling off her sweaty clothes and tossing them and her new uniform in the wash. When they were done the uniform had most of the stiffness smoothed out, and she opted to try it on in one of the spare rooms while she was alone. It was.... weird. She hurriedly changed back into her normal clothes, though she put the uniform in her bag carefully. No telling if she'd get in trouble showing up with it full of wrinkles.
If I'm going to stick around for classes, we're going to need somewhere better to stay than a pokemon center. This area was as good a place as any, maybe the timing was actually perfect to try setting up her own secret base out on the routes between cities. The dojo wouldn't be expecting her until tomorrow, so she could spend the rest of the day scouting for a good spot.
When she picked up her pokemon at the front counter, Arezu asked if the Nurse joy knew of any local gatherings of trainers. "Do you have a map? I can mark some locations for you." Nurse Joy smiled warmly and marked out the spots. Arezu thanked her, studied the map a few moments, and left.
"Hmm? Where's Hakuren?" Hikaru commented when she was released from her pokeball. "I'm not talking to him right now," Arezu grumbled. Hikaru put two and two together and realized her trainer's bad mood was related to the fluffball and left it at that. "Wasn't I going to train?" she asked instead, pointing to her pokeball. Clearly it had skipped Arezu's mind, but after a long pause the girl put it away. "There'll be time for that later. Being out gives you just as many opportunities anyways, right?" Hikaru nodded.
When they got closer to the small park Nurse Joy had marked as a popular battle spot, Hikaru nodded. "Yes, there are some trainers there...You aren't planning on me battling, are you?" She sensed the strength level of most of those pokemon and knew it would be an unfair matchup. "Haha, no, I was thinking Sham still needs training. And...well, Suicune too..." Arezu wasn't sure what the response would be at releasing his rainbow a** out in the middle of a run of the mill gathering of trainers.
He also had that human form happening now, which made her wonder if he would switch over to fight. And...ugh, just the thought of him using that form to join her in classes made her groan. "Hikaru, do me a favor and do not tell Suicune about the dojo." Hikaru, amused, hummed acceptance.
"Tell me, what do you plan to do with that young one?" Hikaru was referring to the tyrogue which had been gifted as a prize from the dojo. "I dunno. I don't plan on training it, but they insisted I take it... I guess, maybe I could find somewhere to release it." Something about that didn't sit right though. The tyke hadn't grown up in the wild, and likely wouldn't feel at home. Better if she could find a trainer to take care of him. "Be on the lookout for someone who could take it."
The gathering of trainers was mostly made up of kids thanks to it being the middle of a weekday. Arezu gravitated towards a small group of adults, assuming they would have more money to spare on battles. The type of adult who could be out battling in the middle of a workday was either a deadbeat or flush enough to afford it. Judging by their clothes, Arezu assumed the latter.
"Hey, got room for one more?" she asked. The adults, who knew each other well and battled often, were eager to battle with someone new who wasn't too young. They quickly sorted out an order for everyone to take their turn, and held off their other battles to watch.
Arezu wasn't keen on the attention, but she didn't let it distract her. Up until the battle's start, they seemed more interested in Hikaru anyways. They chattered excitedly among themselves, becoming even more animated when one of them recognized her for a lucario, a pokemon the champion of Sinnoh used...or when one of them concluded that she must be a mega evolution. Hikaru started to feel uncomfortable from the hungry looks. Their desire to battle her grew, even though Hikaru was clearly stronger than they could handle.
Ah yes, much better to give the minor-god a shot since he had type advantage over the first trainer.
Arezu found one other trainer who was willing to battle, but the lack of contest quickly had them losing interest. They wanted to chat, figure out where she'd been and what badges she had, but Arezu wasn't interested in sticking around if none of them were willing to battle. At least, since her battles had been against adults, they had given her decent prize money for winning.
Now the battles were over Arezu headed to a water fountain in the shade. The water was cool and had just a hint of a metallic tang to it, so she drank as needed and then directed some to each of her pokemon. There was a bench nearby for her to sit while she counted her winnings, and then rustled around in her bag for things to sell. A few fragments of some sort of mineral she had found, a nugget, and a few TMs she had no intention of using. She asked the gathered trainers if they were interested in any of it, and after selling a TM she bundled the things up and left.
At the local pokemart Arezu sold the rest of her miscellaneous items. Though the place specialized in trainer items, she did pick up a few lengths of rope, a small notebook, and some snacks. Then, having nothing more to do in the city, she stepped outside and had Tanjoubi fly her out to the forest in the direction of Celadon.
When Arezu touched down, she finally let Hakuren out again. "Whew! Been a while since I was in one of those things so long!" Hakuren shook himself out, not noticing as Arezu kept going without waiting for him. He just hurried to catch up. "Where we going, Zuu?" he asked, paying more attention to the roots and rocks he was stepping over than his companion's body language.
"Looking for a place for a base," she answered curtly. Hakuren didn't seem to notice, because now he was poking around the base of every tree for a good den. "What about here?" he asked, toeing around the hole of an old vulpix den. The scents were so old he knew it was abandoned. "...and how do you expect me to fit in there?" Arezu asked. There was a tinge of amusement in her voice, and after Hakuren huffed and followed her away, she felt herself growing less mad with him.
"I'm thinking something more like a treehouse. With enough room for me to stand, at least," she added, snorting at Hakuren's insistence that a tiny foxhole would work. "That's cool, but Zuu, how the heck do we make a treehouse?" Arezu ignored the question. "First we find a tree in a good spot. We'll figure that out after."

It didn’t take too long to get to Saffron City, since it was rather close by. Lafayette supposed that was the benefit of Kanto; it was so compacted together that you only needed to walk a few feet before you were in another city entirely. Well, not counting the places that were separated by bodies of water and mountain ranges. But at least the later had caves so…
He shook his head. Lafayette’s focus was on battling and getting the next gym taken down. Pausing a moment though, the Aussie considered his next course of action. As much as he wanted to just head straight for the gym, but it being the sixth in the region meant it would be tougher than most. It was probably a good time to take a moment and train the rest of his team just a bit. Noah was bloody strong already and after the faire, he was certain Micah didn’t need any training (it’d been a while since he’d really bonded with the Arcanine) so that just left the rest. Deciding it was alright to break from the path briefly, he headed to the outskirts of town to the grasses, unleashing his team and directing them to battle (while also doing his best to ignore a certain brooding pink Espurr). A few minutes, that was all they really needed. Of course, before he sent them off on their massacre, he did a little adjusting. His bag was growing heavy with all the items he’d been collecting, it was probably best to start using them.

Lafayette was hard at work training. And by hard at work, it mostly meant his team was hard at work training and building up their skills to take on the next gym. He’d finally worked up the nerve to even let Cheri out and after the Espurr had her way of violently chucking rocks at him and managing a few headshots (she was still apparently rather sore about the last few battles, even if the blank expression said nothing of the sort), she calmed down enough to just plop on her bottom and watch the others. She even answered some of Lafayette’s concerning what to expect from the psychics, though her answers were less than helpful.
Who knew something that looked like living cotton candy could be so volatile? Either way he just sighed, rubbing at the cut and blood that was trickling from the side of his face from the last rock throw before his attention was diverted by a buzzing vibration at his wrist. He blinked and flicked the screen to his face, staring as it alerted him to a text message. From… who though?
Lafayette frowned as he tried to think on that; it certainly wasn’t Juliean, that man knew to call or send voice recorded messages due to Lafayette’s little… ‘reading’ issue. It certainly wasn’t his parents either, they knew better. So then that left… mm… maybe someone else? Might’ve been Mel, it was getting late into the next day.
”Hey Chero, give a lookie for me, eh?” He remarked, dropping his wrist down for her to see. She stared a moment, looking up at him with a long stare that made him frown and roll his eyes. ”Foine… here sheila,” he grumbled, pulling it off his wrist and handing the communicator over to the Espurr. She took it and gave a slight nod of approval before staring the message down. Ah, it was from Mel. Cheri relayed this in a brief fashion to the Aussie, who made a bit of a face. Oi… he hadn’t forgotten about their competition and it’d been in the back of his mind since leaving. He wanted to head back out and do it, but well… he was several regions away at this point.
Ugh.
Cheri, sensing her trainers despair over the whole thing took the initiative to respond in his stead for him. Or at least, something simple.
Text to Mel:
Hello. This is Cheri. How are you? Are you eating sugar? Lafayette won’t be able to make it today. Can you try again in a few days? He’s on a very important mission now and failure would mean death. Maybe. He almost let me die.
She sent that off and looked up to the blonde, who hadn’t missed her tapping away without his permission. He was watching her with a leery look even, frown on his face. He certainly hoped she hadn’t told Mel anything off putting...

Cheri looked away from the current onslaught of pokemon massacring (AKA her teammates decimating the local wildlife under the watchful eye of their trainer) to the communicator as it rumbled between her paws. She studied the return text with that standard blank trance, briefly looking to Lafayette. Would it be best to inform him of the inquiries Mel was making? She wasn’t eating sugar and really, that was the only important part of that message. A shame really and one that ought to be rectified.
Cheri ultimately decided that this could be handled herself. If there was some sort of deep and meaningful question that needed to be answered, she would leave that for the Aussie to do. She could handle this much.
Text to Mel:
That is a shame. You should find some sugar; I would like to try more flavors of ice cream. Do you think there are more? He is on a mission from the lightning-haired one. He’s supposed to be getting stronger. Or something with badges. I do not understand the fascination with these pieces of metal. Are they edible?
Probably by not getting eaten by another pokemon. There are many vicious pokemon out here. Many vicious birds. There’s nothing for them to eat though, I think he will be alright.
And with that reassuring message typed, she sent it off to Mel and turned her attention the random flock of pokemon that had appeared upon Lafayette’s command to Noah to ‘flush them out’ with a water attack so to speak. Oh goodness, there were even more angry birds now.

Lafayette huffed as he watched his team continue to train. Unfortunately, the wild pokemon around here were small pickings and he was finding his attention span waning as he tried to keep them on task. Cheri was busy texting away on his communicator and that just caused the Aussie to frown more. If it was Mel she was talking to then well… what about? The Espurr hadn’t filled him in on anything; hell she hadn’t even mentioned if Mel was questioning about their little sparring and swimming competition. Two things he’d have rather been involved in at the time.
Actually… maybe he could still participate? His team wasn’t ready to take Sabrina (at least Cheri had told him that much). He could train in Alola, there were bound to be far more interesting things to interact with? Of course, there was no promise Mel and Brian were still there but… he could swing by. What would Juliean really do about him taking a detour? S’long as he was trying to get the next badge, the man could simply shove it.
Right. He liked that idea and the smug smile that appeared on his face was proof. Immediately he shoved himself up to his feet, patting the dirt from the seat of his pants before hollering for everyone to move on in. "A’igh’ mates, we’re movin’ ta somewhere else fa’ trainin’. " He announced, retrieving his communicator from Cheri (much to her chagrin) before returning everyone for the time being save for Dova. He mounted up on her back and gave her sides a kick, the Noivern squeaking in excitement before taking to the skies for Alola as instructed.

They were getting ready to walk in Saffron City to go to the Train Station, while Giovanni was thinking. Where was the Second Gym in Kalos? And why for the life of him could he not remember who was the Gym Leader. He closed his eyes and started to walk a little faster when *THUD* he ran into something and he fell backwards. "Ughh" Gio said as he looked up and saw a Trainer Tips sign. "Sabrina musta know I was coming putting this sign here" he joked to play it off for nobody around.
Lucario chuckled, but to be fair he hadn't noticed the sign either. He was instead focusing on the Aura's ahead of them just to make sure no Trainers were lucking in the shadows. He stuck out a paw to help his Trainer up.
Gio reached for the paw extended to him "Thanks buddy" he muttered as he picked himself up. "Welp good news is we are in Saffron that's for sure" he joked as he started to walk again.

Figuring it would be better to try and prep for Kalos in a City he knew abit better Giovanni decided to run to the street shops in Saffron instead of Lumiose City. He poked around the different shops buying various Potions and snacks for the Train ride to Kalos. He came to a shop that mas called Random Rory's. It didn't seem like there was a shop keeper anywhere to be seen, but there was however a machine.
It was set up to seem like a slot machine but it only had screen on it with a single Type. Deciding it wouldn't hurt to try out Gio decided to put a coin in and pull the arm. The screen started to whirl before it suddenly stopped. "WINNER WINNER WINNER" the machine said two times before it spit out a TM. It was kind of green in color and on the machine Gio saw a Grass Type Symbol. "Huh seems to be a TM for Grass Knot" Gio spoke out to himself. He slipped the disk in bag and continued to look at the different shops for awhile longer.
He wasn't to happy that it always seemed Mega Stones and harnesses seemed to be so much more expensive outside of Kalos, but it made some sense. Their culture seemed to focus on it a little more, and seeing as that was were it was discovered it's not likely very many of the people had learned the art quite yet. Nevertheless Gio was finished shopping and decided to head to the Train Station.
