His friend was already at the counter checking out, a few items when Fabian strolled up, zubat still in hand with a finger rubbing right between her ears to keep her content. Melody collected the bag of items and turned to Fabian, and staring blankly a moment as she noticed the bat in his hand. "What’s that?" She asked with a frown, turning to look at the pair. Fabian rolled his eyes, hand flicking through the air before placing it to his chest.
"Pfff it’s a zubat duh. C’mon Melody, you should know better!" That just earned him a blank stare of disapproval. It was fairly evident she knew what a zubat was and didn’t need him telling her that. She ignored his cheeky grin, taking her purchased goods, and making outside.
"I know what it is." She remarked flatly as they left the shop, Fabian and his pokemon right on her heels. Well jeez, such a spoil sport. But that was about standard for Melody; she didn’t enjoy stupid and it was a wonder how she even put up with Fabian. A gift really.

Fabian followed Melody, his friend remaining quiet due to their earlier conversation. Either she didn’t want to talk to him or… she didn’t want to talk to him. She didn’t usually ignore Fabian nor was she ever truly angry with him. She just phased him out from time to time as needed to get more useful things done.
Which was perfectly fine for him. He spent his time focusing on the zubat that had come into his care, still rubbing the little runt between the ears. She seemed to enjoy that and had stopped nibbling on his thumb to focus on their surroundings as they walked. She hadn’t attempted to escape him yet or anything, which meant that she was feeling comfortable in his grasp. Which was good, since the thing barely seemed like it could fly. He gave her a little rub on the head again, turning his attention down to torchic. He still needed a name for her and now with the zubat he needed two names…

Fabian had to think hard about the whole naming name. He wasn’t much for naming themes like other people… he just kind of went with what fit. He stared long and hard and finally something snapped to mind. Susie. Yeah…. The torchic just seemed like a Susie. And this zubat? Well he had to pull out his pokedex to check but once he’d found out it was a she another name popped to mind. Orchid. It was a rather nice name for something that hardly anyone cared for. But this zubat was rather adorable, given her size so… he’d make an exception.

Great! He’d named his new additions; that was about as much of an accomplishment as anything else he’d done today. He continued to follow Melody, towards the outskirts of town near the route exit where the grass grew tall. At about this point, the silence was beginning to get to him. Melody hadn’t even called him out for his stupid remark earlier.
Eventually though they came to a stop and Melody went about setting the package down, dropping to her knees and beginning to fish things out. Fabian just idled by, watching a moment with curious silence before she stood again, waltzing over to him.

"What’s tha-" he started up, immediately receiving a single finger being lifted up to silence him.
"Let out your pokemon for me." The demand was straight to the point. Fabian only stared a moment before giving a hesitant nod.
"Ahhh…. Alllriigghttyyy then." Fabian remarked, retrieving his pokeballs and chucking them out. Susie perked up as the new additions appeared, face in awe as the Milotic uncoiled to his full length, the Scizor stretching her claws up and out and flickering her wings. The pair glanced at Fabian, who smiled and gave them each a little wave. The Milotic responded by gracefully sliding over, peering down at his trainer with an astute gaze, before nudging his hair. Fabian grinned, reaching his free hand up to give the pokemon a rub under the chin.
"♪Xaannndddeerrr, how are you?♪" The young man sand, earning a little bit of a questioning look from the pokemon. The little reunion didn’t last all that long though as Melody gave a click of her tongue, grabbing the pairs attention once more. She held up some items, there was a single disc in a case, and a couple of scales in her hand. Huh… what were those for? Melody didn’t hesitate to put them to use, in a moment she was using them, using the disc on Xander and the scales on Susie and Sierra. Fabian just watched curiously.
"There." Melody remarked, wiping off stray dust from the scales on her leggings. "I updated their move sets with that stuff… they’ll be stronger fighters now. Hopefully." Fabian’s eyes went wide.
"Oooooo, sweet!" Fabian’s face immediately went into a grin, Xander nudging him again and receiving another rub under the chin for the action. A moment or so passed and he ended up giving Melody a confused look. "Sooo…. What now?"

Melody walked back over to the bag to grab something else, returning with a round little object with various holes in it and a lighter. Fabian watched curiously a moment, head tilting as she held up the object in question.
"Now you actually train." She remarked. "This is an incense, it’ll summon a random type of pokemon. You can fight those, get stronger you know… something you kind of need to do." She explained. Fabian’s gaze went wide, mouth forming into an impressed ‘O’ shape. "Well that’s pretty handy~" he tilted his head. "I thought I was supposed to like… run around in the grass to do that and stuff though?"
Melody scoffed and just set about lighting the incense before setting it in a little place holder on the ground in the middle of the area they were residing in. She walked over to a nearby tree as a plume of ghostly purple began to rise from the incense, the area beginning to grow gloomy and dark, sending a chill down Fabian’s spine.
"Ahh… Melody what… exactly…," He started but at this point, Melody could no longer hear him; instead her headphones were firmly back in place and her gaze was firmly planted in a magazine she’d acquired from the store as well. Well… it looked like he wouldn’t be getting any help there…

Oooohhhh it was ghosts. Ew. Fabian hadn’t seen the Phantump just pretty sprout to life behind him, but Xander had and without hesitation struck out with the new move that Melody had been kind enough to provide him, freezing the little ghost stump in its tracks. Fabian shivered and glanced back to the ice block, eyebrow quirking as he looked over at Xander. the Milotic’s attention was already redirected though as another Phantump appeared. Fabian grimaced and held Orchid closer to his chest to protect her from the next blast of cold that occurred, catching the little thing shivering.

Susie chirped and ruffled her feathers to get rid of stray ice that had caught onto them, her look miffed as she watched Xander dispose of some of the oncoming ghosts. Fabian frowned and knelt, gently rubbing the top of her head.
"Shhh it’s okay chickie. Lil’ chilly right?" He replied, letting her snuggle a little close as well as another blast of Blizzard went off to take out yet another Phantump that had appeared. He couldn’t rightly blame his pokemon for being bothered by the blasts; sure he was wearing a quality leather jacket but even it didn’t quite offer the necessary protection from the relenting chills his Milotic was firing out.

Not that he was going to complain too much because Xander was one shotting these beasts like a proper boss. Which of course, didn’t surprise him one bit. The Milotic had been with him fooorrreeevvvveerrr. Raise from a Feebas that he’d found – a hard process if anything- he ended up evolving and well… there was no regrets about it. He was suave, cool looking and could carry an amazing tune. And that was pretty much all Fabian could ask for. If he could also be tough? Then hell yes, he’d accept that too!

Of course, as he thought about it, it was probably a good idea to let the rest of his team have a chance to fight as well. Melody had boosted several of his pokemons skill sets after all and probably expected him to you know… train them all. Or mostly all. Orchid didn’t seem like much of a fighter and he was sure she just didn’t have the skillset to go up against these ghosts.
But Sierra could and he only have to give her a grin before the Scizor gave a nod and turned her focus to the surroundings. It wasn’t long before another ghost found its way wandering towards the incense, a Gastly which was kind of odd. Of course, she didn’t hesitate to make a beeline straight for it, striking it down without hesitation.

More Gastly started to appear in the air, causing Fabian to blink in surprise. Oh wow… there a lot of ghosts lurking around. Was like… intended? He knew Melody mentioned that the incense would attract them but… damn. Like… there were many. Soooo many. It was kind of crazy. He also wasn’t digging this atmosphere; it was dark and gloomy, a mood killer really. Fabian went back to alternating between scratching Orchid behind the ear and giving Susie a head pat, though the little chick was seeming to grow more courageous as she watched the battle and ruffled her feathers excitedly.

Fabian mused over the idea a moment, trying to think of a way to make the best of this grim setting. Like what song could you sing, to motivate and make this seem like less of a funeral procession? As he tried to figure that out, Xander took down another Phantump that had appeared. If anything, this place was going to get a good watering once all this frost thawed…

While running through the play list of songs that he mentally knew by heart, a little chirp and a sharp peck to his leg distracted him. He blinked and perked up, looking down at Susie who was flapping her tiny wings excitedly, chirping like mad. It seemed that she’d seen enough and wanted to get involved in the fighting too.
"Oh hey chickie chickie? You want to fight?" He inquired curiously, earning a chirp of approval. He could tell by the look on her face that she was rather determined to get involved, which was fair enough. She was his starter, it was best that she got some training in too.
"Well alright then! Sure!" He turned his attention to Xander as he made to strike out at another phantump. "Xandie! Hey, hold on. Let chickie take this one." The Milotic stopped, giving his trainer and the chick, studying the pair a moment before giving a little nod and shying away from the ghost. Fabian grinned and gave the serpent a thumb up. "Thanks buddy! Alright chickie, you got it from here." Susie chirped and fluttered her wings again, rushing off to battle the stump for herself.

"Ahhh good job!" Fabian remarked as Susie toddled back over, head shaking off the trauma of the tackle attack. Okay so, he was used to seeing his pokemon get in the first blow and felt a bit bad for Susie that she had been hit. But that was to be expected, right? Sierra and Xander, clearly stronger than her. But she’d done well and he wanted to pump her up on that!
Of course, before he could continue, a potion bottle came flying and struck him in the side of the head. "Owheeeyyyyy" Fabian flinched, hand flying up to his head. Melody just pointed from the bottle to the torchic without a word or even looking up from her reading.
"Uh…, huh." He picked up the bottle and looked it over, before applying it to the torchic. Ah, healing right! That was going to be a thing he needed to do if he was going to let her battle. Or any of them really. Once she was healed up, Susie was chirping and rushing off to battle another ghost. She was dedicated now.

Another quick healing and Susie was good to go, which if anything brightened the mood of the gloomy situation. Orchid gave a little squeak of concern, and Fabian turned his attention to her once more. She was still shivering and after a moment of thought, he tucked her into an inside pocket of his leather jacket. She fit perfectly, which was cute and sad, and seemed delighted to be out of the chill for the time being. Perfect.
