User Image"I..I don't know. While I don't belive he would be upset, I can not tell for sure. We'll find out soon though," he said, shutting his eyes. Hachiro was so accepting, would he accept this though? While his first fiance' accepted his father strange romance with Kenchi, chosing a second fiance was different. He should of spoken to Hachiro first, yet the bruises had set him over the edge. To think such a creature would beat her son with a gentic sickness.

He shook his head and smiled opening his eyes. "You can tell me anything Shizuka. I want you to speak your mind around me, so I can know you better."

User ImageShizuka nodded and almost whispered, "I love you, Shinku; I have since the moment I met you, even if it was under the most awkward of situations. I don't know how you've done it..." and at this, he caressed Shinku's cheek with the back of his hand. "... but I'm yours now... forever... and I will live or die so that you will always be happy."

Shi smiled softly. As Shinku went deep into thought about Hachiro, he studied the Haka's face. "Something wrong, love?" he asked.

"Yes, about my illness... well, to put it simply I'm a hemopheliac. The slightest cut and I bleed horridly. I'm not weak except after I've bled a lot, but that can't really be helped. There's an ointment one can make from a certain herb mixed with water and, when applied to my wounds, they will almost certainly disappear. Deeper ones, or ones that have been bleeding significantly, may take a bit of time and for a poltice to be applied, but I most certainly heal more quickly with the herb ointment..." he paused a moment and looked Shinku in the eye, no longer afraid to admit to himself and the Haka he loved what he had never quite been able to grasp about his condition. "... if untreated, I will most likely bleed to death... within hours... perhaps minutes if hurt enough; But I promise that if I'm in a fight to save you, I would not back down even to save my own life."

"Would you like to know more about the herb used to treat my wounds? I'm sure I could show it to you if you'd like to walk with me in the garden...?" Shi stood and offered his hand, suddenly remembering. "How is your ankle?"

User ImageHis hand rose to his cheek still feeling the caress even after the hand had gone. His eyes blazed with the knowledge of security, passion, and aa knowing smile formed on his lips. "Forever, we are to be a pair." He leaned close and settled his lips against Shizuka lips in a brief caressing kiss. "Nothing is wrong."

The hazel ears remained perked and lively as Shinku attentively listened to the explanation of the hemophilia. His eyelids lowered in thought. "You will not have to get in a fight to save me. I will never rise in a position where assassination becomes an option to someone." He bluntly said, brushing back his hazel hair. "Who would want to kill me? A haka who has no ambition to rise above a shop keeper of a armory and to raise a family?"

With a flick of his wrist, he exposed his ankle firmly tied in a white bandage. "It was just a small sprain. They fussed enough for me to almost believe I had broke it." His fingers lingered over the white linen bandage.

User ImageShizuka closed his eyes as Shinku leaned in close and the two shared their first kiss, short as it was. Shinku's lips were like satin against Shizuka's; he wondered if his felt too rough from him working so hard in the sun and hoped if they were anything less than silken that it wouldn't offend his new fiance'. Almost as soon as the warm gift was given, Shinku's lips had left his and Shizuka's entire body surged with an energy he'd never felt before. It wasn't lust, but complete happiness.

He felt wanted, loved, needed even; emotions which had never passed through him. As he listened to Shinku talk of never needing to be protected, he said off-hand, "Shinku, you are a beautiful Haka and others may become jealous and seek to be rid of you to gain a Gehaka whose affections you have won. I'm not saying that it will happen, but in case you need me I will be there..." Shi admitted that it may be possible, but there were so many Gehaka that it seemed unlikely. "You may be right... who could want to kill such an innocent and kind soul?"

He smiled as he looked at Shinku's ankle, "It's good that you weren't injured worse. I'm pleased that you're feeling better... and that the gash on your forehead seems to have healed. Sometimes, though, it is good to be fussed over... I wouldn't know, but it seems like it might mean your family loves you?"

Shizuka bowed a bit and said, "Now, if you please, we can walk through the flowers... the day is young and I will remember it for the rest of my life... I want to remember exactly what flowers were blooming and which songs the birds chose to sing in the trees when I found my heart's only happines..." He blushed a bit and smiled. "I'm sorry if I'm a bit corny... I can't help it."

User ImageShinku face flushed slightly at the mere thought of him being beautiful enough to attracted jealousy. While he knew he was not ugly, he was no fatal beauty either. Left hand roughed from tessen pratice, his clothes where never perfect, skin never flawless as his mothers. "Innocent and kind? Can any Haka really hold those titles?" He whispered silently.

"He loves me enough to make sure I am not physically damaged. He would not care if I suffered emotion distraught. He would just laugh and say such a show of emotions is not fitting for a Haka." Shinku said bitterly.

Softeness replaced the anger as he had to chuckle at Shizuka. "No, I don't mind the corny words. It makes me happy to have such a day expressed in such sweet, gentle words. Truely Shizuka, you have made me extreamly happy." He said rising up.

User Image Shinku's face went incredibly pale and Shi immediately showed concern, though wouldn't say so. "If the Haka is you, as far as I've learned, yes... you seem very kind, though I'm not sure I was wise in judging your innocence. As I've said, from what you seem, you seem innocent enough." His tone was not one of accusation, but of enlightenment and question. If he were to know any secrets, it would be now.

"Emotion lets one know that he is alive... it's no sin to let it show." She said with a sweet smile. "I'm glad you'll permit such corniness, then. And I'm even more pleased that I can make you happy. I hope I'll never see you frown because of my dishonesty again - It nearly broke my heart to see you so upset yesterday," he admitted.

Shi led the way into the garden where the flowers were in fullest bloom. Much to his surprise, the first one he came to was the herb his mother had converted to a balm for his wounds. "Look here," Shi said, pointing to the flower. "This is the herb mother uses for my illness. Notice the star-shaped leaves and the tiny white flowers all over it. Those are the tell-tale signs." He then started pointing out all of his favorite plants and giving their names.

User ImageShinku gave a soft chuckle, innocent? Did he really seem to be as kind as Shizuka said? Hazel hair twirled around his finger, he gave him a smile. "I'm glad you think so Shizuka; even though, I myself," he laid a hand against his chest," do not think I am innocent. Perhaps kind, I am kinder then most Haka."

"I..I should not have become so distraught. Your mother and our society is to blame for part of your dishonesty. They made you feel so worthless," Shinku said turned his head to the side. "When you are so handsome and pure. Do not blame yourself Shi; I just became over emotional."

Shinku followed behind him and smiled at Shizuka enthusiasm as he begin to point and tell his favorite plants. The haka knelt by the herb pointed out, running his dainty fingers over the tiny blossoms and strangely shaped leaves. "How do you use this herb?" He questioned, plucking a single blossom.

User Image "Well, even if you're not innocent, you cannot tell me that you're not beautiful... and you are most definitely kinder than most Haka." Shi said, pacing quietly alongside his fiance. "Don't worry about being so emotional; I'm sure I have the same problems, yet I've never seen them become vicious enough to show themselves. I... I rather try to hide them, as every Gehaka is practically taught to be without emotion. Perhaps it's a common trait between the sexes - maybe one of the only common traits." He smiled and said lightly.

Looking at the fragile blossum in Shinku's hand, Shi explained, "One uses a pestle and morter and grinds the herb to form a sort of paste; mixed with water and applied to the skin, the natural oils sink in and provide great healing powers. I've never quite understood how mother found out that such a plant existed, but he has told me that his mother had hemophelia... it goes through the maternal side, you see... so if I were to have children, there's a slim to nonexistant chance that he would have hemophelia."

He picked another of the blossoms and strolled further into the garden, saying over his shoulder, "I don't know how fate made it that I should get the correct gene and my brothers did not... they've always seemed so much worthwhile to mother when, in my opinion, I know that at least Jiro was never of any use at all... he's too narcissistic. Of course, I'd never tell him so, especially with my eldest brother around. He'd beat me and let me bleed to death before he gave me a second thought..."

Shi looked into the distance, lost in thought. "You don't think me fragile just because of my condition do you, Shinku? I'm sure you've but to look at me to see that I'm not... so many years in a boat-carving shop haven't exactly been in vain..." He smiled, finally giving himself a bit of pride and credit for his work.

User Image"Sure, I can accompany you. I believe you could find one at the apothecary's. But you don't necessarily need two... you can bottle the ointment and it keeps a very long time. I wouldn't worry about the extra expense, but perhaps you could buy some little bottles to keep it in?" he mused. He himself had never been to where his mother purchased any medicinal herbs and such, but he assumed that there was an apothecary in the town somewhere where a pestle and mortar could be purchased. His mother hadn't exactly pulled it out of thin air, he knew that.

Shi smiled sweetly, his eyes squiting just a bit, "I'm glad you don't consider me frail. The only reason I think you'd think me delicate is because I'm so very pale and can't be in the sun for too awful long; I can't help that. And my disease in general. I don't know... I just don't want to be a burden if you did think I was frail." He placed his arms alongside Shinku's and rubbed them gently and assuringly, looking in the Haka's entrancing emerald eyes. "I just needed the reassurance, that's all..." he said finally.

"When would you like to leave to search for the pestle and mortar... oh, and how am I to explain this," he held up the wrist with the single bracer on it and raised an eyebrow. "I don't think my mother will complain, but did you tell him of your intentions in the letter you sent yesterday?" He walked on through the garden, presently coming to a bench under a shadetree he thought must be some sort of willow. From it, one could see the bridge leading over a small stream which must have parted from the Xang Zou somewhere.

User Image"Thank you, Shinku," Shi said smiling. "I'm sure if we amble around the village long enough we should find something at least resembling an apothecary. In any case, it'll be good exercise and the weather's beautiful today..."

"I don't know if that's a blessing or not," Shi confessed. "I'm sure mother will be pleased to hear that I'm engaged but... well... sometimes he can get so cranky and I don't want you to have to face that. No, he wouldn't beat me for the note. Maybe because I didn't tell him that you were interested in me in an engagement sense... but not because of the note. What did you send him, by the way? Whatever it was, he seemed to like it..." Shi's glance followed Shinku's to the willow. "You're right... it would be a great day for an outing on one of my boats, but I'm not sure time will suffice. It must be well past mid-day now. Perhaps another time?"

User ImageShi laughed, offering Shinku his arm, "Well, then we shall..." he grinned cheekily. "How late shall we wander? Until dark? Until dawn?" He was far past giddy at this point and was bordering on just plain silly. He could imagine the two of them looking completely lost as they searched for the possibly non-existant apothecary. Hopefully, though, they would find it before it got too late. Even now, Shi's mother hadn't a clue that he was now engaged and expected him home.

"That proves just how easily my mother's vanity is catered to. Amber is his favorite stone; It reflects his skin very well. He seemed pleased," Shi said. "Yes, really. I'd be more than pleased to bring you on an outing... I'll take care of you and I'm an excellent swimmer; please assure your mother that I'd sooner drown myself than let you fall to such a fate. I've been around boats my entire life, I've no fear that it'll sink or that you'll fall out..."

Shi led Shinku towards the garden entrance, thinking about how things would come about if he were to bring Shinku off so soon. He had missed two days of work, really, and his mother would become cross if he were gone for so long. Not that he had any terribly important commissions; the boats he had been carving just lately were just for show unless someone found they wanted to buy them. "Well... I suppose... but we'll have to see what happens after mother finds out that I'm engaged. That will sway whether or not he wants to let me out of work without first meeting you. And perhaps another note..."

Shi rolled his eyes and looked annoyed at how needy his mother was. It was pathetic really. He was an adult and yet she still treated him as if he needed permission to breathe. Shi sighed and said, "I'm sorry I'm so much trouble, love..." It wasn't a melancholy statement, merely a statement in and of itself. He looked at Shinku and smiled a bit.
