May 14th, 2019: Lanzer Morrigan87 How often in a day can you post to earn platinum? Just curious 3nodding It's not a solid number but a scale that deplete and recover over time, time between posts , or an occasional break will recover that amount. Lanzer Vision Blurs Miscellaneous/Features/????Okay, since it's been a hot minute since I remembered to ask about this, and I do remember Lanzer saying something about looking into it at one point... Is there any notable status update type things in regards to the users with blocked threads in their subscribed topics, and a way to get rid of them? We can't unsubscribe from threads that we can't view for whatever reason, and it's kind of obnoxious to keep seeing that there's threads in our subscriptions that we can't access. (I also have no clue if these were threads I was blocked from or threads that were removed or whatever.) That's still on my to-do list, sorry I haven't got around to it yet. It's not too far away. Lanzer Knight Yoshi FeatureCan we get a post limit/timer for new accounts. Today there was an account posting porn in the CB very quickly. While it's not fool proof, it would at least mitigate it to some degree. In another forum there's a 15min cool down for every 3 posts for the first 3 days. I feel something like this would be beneficial to mitigate spam to some degree. Sure I can add that in, I'll also block all posts by a new user if its first few posts received enough complaints. Lanzer Deus de Charity BATTLE FIELD FORUMI've been running a week long charity battle and have had some time to figure things out Here are some MAJOR BUGS with the thread, and then some suggestions to hopefully make it more user-friendly! Bugs:- You can heal someone and get a point for it even if they're full health [if youre having a contest like most do for top healer and top fighter, this is really breaking the system, why would you get a point if theyre already healed?] [i guess this is just to help get heal points if everyone is full health? but it just seems like cheating?] - Sometimes you 'lose' your team, meaning your icon goes white, instead of ur team icon when your icon is like this, you cannot fight or heal. but if you post you still get MP you don't turn into a spectator, u just can't do anything [this is super super detrimental because the threads have a time limit ! SOMETIMES they come back after a random amount of time [up to even over 24h!] but by then the thread might not even be going anymore] Thread Suggestions:- Gain a heal point for reviving a team mate [maybe also for reviving yourself, because I mean, you have to pay for it! so might as well get a heal point right? and it promotes reviving people and yourself!] - Names for the team inside the banner with the icon for better clarification - When the game is over, full player board stat list instead of just top3 [even if it's only viewable by clicking another link. Like there is the top 3 then 'view here for player board' to see everyone else's stats] - Let the host revive people too? So that way they can promote people coming back, rather than watching as everyone dies and stops playing also promote this forum because what they heck its like you slipped it in under the rug during the easter event and literally everyone who came into my battle thread didnt even know it existed. so try to promote it more??? you put in that work, fix it, then promote it! Thanks for the feedback! I'll ask our team to look into the bugs and suggestions.

May 21st, 2019: [NPC] Gaia Staff Welcome Back! Quote: FeaturesIs there a planned fix for broken link anchors? Anchors will still go to the correct page, but no longer the correct post. Example: In this thread all dog images are correctly directing to individual posts, but will only take you to the page, not the post. I've had north of 20 people test this on various browsers, and it's happening for all of them. Additionally, off site links will still take you to the correct post, it's just on Gaia links that are doing this. Thank you for providing the example. I see that the post number after the pound symbol did not get forwarded in the new window. We have pushed out a fix for this! It should be active shortly. Lanzer Apollos Liar Misc.Hey guys! Since I saw that Shalotte asked about getting the Mothership forum opened, I was wondering if you could open the Halloween Bash 2k4 and First Gaia Olympics too. They have many valuable threads, including LabTech062's retirement party, that I would love to be able to have access to. Thanks for your time! That's odd, they should all be accessible. We will be fixing that right after ATS! Lanzer Apollos Liar Misc.I've noticed a lot of early Gaia threads are gone, like the announcement preview for Durem. I was wondering if these threads are archived or if they were lost over time. I'm just very interested in what they used to say. Thanks! That does look like a database error. I hope we have the data backed up. Might take a while to find out what went wrong though. Jak Bauer Yen Quest Misc/Forums:There have been an increasing lack of moderation in the "offsite advertisement" spam we've been getting for the past few weeks now. GCD, SF, Question & Assistance forums have offsite spam threads dating as far back as a week even. Is there really no one tasked to clear these up? Because it is getting on my nerves to just report, ignore, and have that many spam taking up the front page of forums I frequently visit. Also, I have been checking to see if there's anyone online that have the ability to move/deal with said spam. 100% offline for the most part (mod assist do not deal with these threads). :/ Hi there, Thanks for the heads up. I will talk to someone about getting that taken care of! Lanzer Thank you for pointing this out. We're working on tools to let users help deal with these issues. The system should be able to quickly remove the offending threads and leave them for mods to review whether they are online or not. Lanzer ElegantlyLuminous FeaturesThank you for the recent update that allows us to unsubscribe from blocked threads! It's a nice addition. However, there are a few of us having issues. When we go to unsubscribe from a blocked thread... there's no checkbox. We're not sure if it is because those threads were deleted or if there's some other reason*. But the tldr is we can't remove them. (I can grab you a screenshot if you need it.) Could this please be looked into and/or fixed? Thanks so much! *I went onto a mule to grab the urls of the threads so I could unsubscribe manually but couldn't find the threads... found the users and other posts by those users, but not the specific threads I was looking for. Wasn't trying to circumvent the ignore list-- just wanted to get rid of the threads.Bug Report thread Whoops, that should be a quick fix. sweatdrop Lanzer Daryn Woods Features - /gsearchIt's not functioning like it should be. I want to say that it first broke around the server migration and I think I recall an attempt(s) to fix it since then. Unfortunately, the fix didn't work as it should have and searches aren't turning up older information, especially from accounts that have been inactive for some time. We're actually having better luck finding what we need through Google's search. Sorry that's an ongoing bug that is till being worked out. Harder to fix as I'm not too familar with the new search engine. Lanzer Vision Blurs Features - Subscribe/Unsubscribe from threadsI'm actually surprised I got out of my dr.'s app. early enough to get here for this woooooooo. So the Unsubscribe from blocked threads thing was implemented... Last week? I think? And I'm still having issues unsubbing from topics that have been blocked or whatever. If I had to hazard a guess, those threads look to be removed threads -- so I can't even access them. And that means they don't have a box to check next to, to unsubscribe from them. cat_sweatdrop Am I stuck with those threads, or can they be cleared by a higher up? Whoops, this will be fixed right after ATS. Jak Bauer Happy _Tropical_Flower AMC Rules and Guildlines Changes/Other Forum Rules and Guildlines ChangesHello Gaia Staff! This question is for Jak Bauer, but any Devs can answer the question! I am wondering of the status of changing the current rules in the Anime/Manga/Comics forum becaue the current rules the AMC has are currently very restrictive and block most posting topics from being discussed to fully make that forum thrive again along with other forums in needing their rules updated as well. I asked this smae question about 3 months ago and Jak Bauer said he would get to work on this and so far, nothing has happened yet. emo Devs, can you give us any updates on this front seeing as Gaia's forums are the main draw to Gaia besides the avatar system? Hi there, Actually was just talking to someone about that, there are changes that have been made just waiting for my review. Apparently *I* am the bottleneck (d'oh!). I will review the changes and we'll get those, and others posted!

June 4th, 2019: [NPC] Gaia Staff Welcome Back! Quote: Features/ Go Gaia appHow in the world do you post a reply in a thread with the new app? I see no options for it except quoting someone which I dont want to do. The app is great for Dress Up, but bad for forum posting and mail checking. I use the OLD Gaia app for forum posts when I dont feel like logging on my phone's internet app. The blue menu button on the bottom right brings out additional options, to which the option on the far left on the menu is for posting replies. We will make more improvements on the mobile forum as we continue development on the mobile app. Lanzer Apollos Liar Misc.I missed last week's ATS, but I wanted to thank you personally, Lanzer! I'm so glad the event forums are unlocked! Have there been any new developments in finding out what happened with the old threads (like the announcement preview for Durem)? Thanks again! This had been a tough one. I can only imagine that somewhere along the way we encountered some database issues. It had happened once, a long time ago and we lost some precious forum data. I'll need to dig deeper to find out if that was one of the threads affected.. Lanzer Knight Yoshi Lanzer Guin - Aoiichi FeaturesQuestion What if Gaia had a " Dark mode " for forums ? We can look into it for the mobile forum, but for the main site's forum it'll be pretty tough as there are a lot of things such as all the word bubbles which need a lot of work to make them work right in dark mode. I had started working on something for that here https://userstyles.org/styles/164163/gaia-forums-dark-theme For the images it just does some inversion and gray scaling manipulations. I plan to expand on it at some point in the future. That sounds pretty cool, please let me know when you get closer to completion.

July 2nd, 2019: [NPC] Gaia Staff Welcome Back! Quote: ArtCan you add tumblr/twitter to the list of link we can use to post art urls with? As far as i know Geocities is still on there and kinda a relic at this point. It'd be nice if I could post art urls from sities I frequently use. I'm sure others might want that as well Heh, yes that portion need a bit of updating. We will change or expand the detail categories soon. Jak Bauer Vision Blurs Jak Bauer Vision Blurs Features? I don't know where to put this, honestly. This is a repost from last week; I would love to see this addressed as would many other users. I don't want to get obnoxious with this post, but some feedback from the staff on this would be very much appreciated, as it is a rather important question to get out there.I've posted about this a few times now, in some ATS threads, and in a pre-ATS thread. It'll get obnoxious to keep seeing this question over and over again, but it bears repeating over and over again because I feel (and I've noticed from interactions with previous posts I've made about this subject, many others feel too), that it's a topic that does need to be brought up. It's also something that does need a resolution. As usual, I'll try to keep my head level about things, as I talk through this. I understand that IP bans are something that cannot be done, as there are users who share the same IP address -- that being said, I understand that this is not an option for handling the situation that I'm about to readdress once again. I also understand that VPNs exist, so that also probably plays a big part in how difficult it is to effectively curb some of the more distasteful behaviors that happen on Gaia -- more specifically, in the Chatterbox. It makes it difficult, I'm sure, to come up with a way to handle the troubling and abusive behaviors of repeat offenders on this site. So it has me wondering, as it has for a while now, what can be done about this kind of thing to prevent it from continuing in the future. There's been a staggering amount of repeat-offending abusive and toxic users in the CB. They get banned, come back with a new account, trot along with the same behavior that got them banned before, and wind up banned again to come back later. It's a cycle that continuously repeats itself, and it's tiring. You can add these users to your ignored list, but eventually they pop back up with a new account, and you have to add that account to the ignore list too. You can clear out the old banned accounts, sure, to keep from meeting the ignored cap. The problem with this is, we shouldn't have to constantly be putting these users on our ignored lists. These users shouldn't even remotely be allowed to come back to this site at all. You can report their behavior, but I'm sure that the moderators of this site are more often than not swamped with so many other things, that threads from some of these volatile users stick around for hours or sometimes even days -- I do not blame the mods for their heavy workloads, and I do commend the work that they do in regards to cleaning up the CB when they can. They do try to keep things as tidy as they can, and I know that. Other users know that too. We appreciate the attempts made to make sure Gaia is a safe place for all people. What does Gaia plan to do to further discourage this kind of behavior though? How does Gaia plan to keep this kind of thing from happening in the future? Because some of these repeat offenders are thoroughly cruel with the way that they attack users day after day. Their language is crude, vulgar, and inflammatory. I know I'm sure as hell worried about abusing the report button on these people because it'll seem like they're targeted reports. The fact of the matter is, these users consistently break and bend several rules at any given moment in time. Sexually explicit discussions, hate speech, slurs, trolling and abuse -- it's disheartening to see this kind of thing time after time after time. Something needs to be done about this. Gaia likes to remain a 'safe' place for people to come and hang out, but this behavior continues. Many users are tired of seeing this behavior pop up again day after day; while we understand there's only so much the staff can do as a whole, we really just want to see something done that makes this behavior stop. It's not fair to the targeted users who constantly wind up verbally abused or humiliated by these types of users. It's also not fair to the people who come to Gaia to escape that kind of thing in the real world, to have to come here and see other people going through that. Seriously, something needs to be done about this. It can't just be a 'ban issued' type thing anymore -- as I've already stated, these users come back. I want to continue enjoying this website -- I've been here for nearly 15 years of my life. I have grown up and watched Gaia evolve as I've been here. I've seen beautiful things come out of this site, and I've seen some real horrors come out of it too. Horrors like this that I've brought up in this post. I don't want to see Gaia go down a path where people are constantly bullied or harrassed by other users who think that they're above the Terms of Service and can freely break those terms because they're 'what keeps this site alive'. I want to see something done about this, guys. I really do. I want people to feel comfortable here. I want people to be able to enjoy their experiences here and not worry that some kid with too much time on their hands is going to turn around and attack them for whatever reason. Please, Gaia. Please do something about this. I normally come to ATS with the hopes of talking about positive things, and right now I just can't. There's a negative cloud that's lingering here and it's one that needs to be addressed. I'll continue to address it for as long as I need to. Please. What can be done about this kind of behavior, to prevent it from continuing? Hi there, We can understand your issue with these users but, to be honest as you yourself pointed out, it's almost impossible to stop users from coming back to the site. IP bans are not the best solution again, as you point out. This is not an issue where we do not WANT to provide a quick and easy fix, but technologically and practically what you are asking for on an open forum is almost impossible to do other than as we have done so: Have these users reported and taken care of through our current systems. That is not to say that we don't want a better solution, and if/when we figure it out please be assured we will put something in place A.S.A.P. From the bottom of my heart, let me just say thank you for at least giving an answer on this, Jak. I do mean that. This whole situation has been something that's been bothering me for a while, and I know it bothers a great deal of other users, as well. For now, I guess the best we've got is the report system. I just don't want other people worrying (the way I've pointed out in my previous post) about looking like they're targeting users with reports. Because these problematic users do a lot of really bad things in one go, should we just report one thread, or should we report all threads that break ToS? I figure throwing this question out here too, users will know the best approach to how to handle these things as they happen. I wish you and the team all the luck in the world to finding a solution to this problem. It would be great to see this kind of behavior disappear from Gaia, but I'll also take it slowing down dramatically if that's the best that can be managed for now. So really, thank you again for answering me. Hi there, If you see issues with a user please feel free to report them, as long as what you are reporting are violations. If they are violating in multiple threads let us know so we can look into it in those threads. Lanzer Thank you for sharing your concern. Although IP bans are not being practiced (mostly because many programs can render it useless), we can add more features to help limit posts a new user can make and make new users more easily blocked.

August 6th, 2019: [NPC] Gaia Staff Welcome Back! Quote: FeaturesHi there; I have a question regarding our Forum posts, more specifically our Forum History. Is there any way we could find older posts (for example, posts we've made before 2010) more easily? Because I generally can access the most recent 500 posts I've made, but any further and they seem to disappear, even when I search for them through the search function. There seem to be a problem with our search engine bringing up posts before 2010. We will look into fixing this issue after we finish work on the summer event. Jak Bauer Apollos Liar Jak Bauer Apollos Liar FORUMS, SPAMRegarding the recent amount of spam in forums like Gaia Community Discussion and Site Feedback, would it be possible to revise the specified requirements of becoming a moderator or raise awareness about how moderating works and how to apply in order to encourage users to join the mod team? The amount of spam is really overwhelming and is a low priority to existing moderators due to the amount of other TOS violations on the site and a lack of manpower. Hi there, What is it that you would like to revise on the requirements for becoming a moderator? Hey! Users were mentioning that the amount of reports required to be made (100 in a 6 month period) was limiting potential moderators from joining when the situation is currently as bad as it is. There was also concern about whether the reports were being addressed or not due to the time frame in which they're addressed and the lack of follow-up when filing them. It might be beneficial to lower the amount of valid reports required in order to apply to bring more moderators onto staff. However, if that is not a possibility, it might help to make an announcement or staff update calling for new applicants. I've noticed that there are many who would like to help but don't understand how to and a post like that could give them some answers. There are 182 days in 6 months, we are asking for 100 reports, so that is less than 1 report a day, so not quite sure why there would be a concern about the amount we are looking for as being excessive. Perhaps you could explain further? For the ModApp we are looking for the number of reports and whether or not what it is you report is actually valid. Whether or not the report had been handled when we review you for the Moderator position doesn't matter, just whether or not the applicant has an awareness of what is a violation on Gaia. Hopefully that answers your questions! Jak Bauer Apollos Liar Jak Bauer Apollos Liar Because the situation is so pervasive and unrelenting and due to the lack of moderators on the team currently, the time frame and amount of reports, while normally fine, isn't the most helpful in the current situation. Because they are spread so thin, many moderators appear unable to divide work evenly in a way that allows them to handle serious site violations, as well as less severe reports. As a result, forums like GCD are flooded with advertisers on a daily basis and it takes up to a week for these threads to fall off of the front page. Many users don't even report them anymore because they aren't aware they are being taken care of. By reducing the amount of reports required to apply, it might encourage more users to join the mod team and address these concerns as well as help maintain other site issues so that the current team isn't struggling as much. I sorry to be a bit thick today, but really do not understand. You are saying there are plenty of posts to report due to all the violations on the site. But you want less reports to be required because of all the violations on the site? How is having less than a report a day an excessive burden to becoming a Moderator? If as you say, there is plenty to choose from, you could get your 100 in far less than 6 months. We do not wait for 6 months to review your work, if you get your 100 reports in 30 days that's fine with us, as long as you show you understand what constitutes a violation of site rules. Now, as a hint, sending in 100 reports of the same type will not show that you know overall what things break more than one rule, so I would suggest not just sending in 100 spam reports so that we can see that you do have an understanding of Gaia's Terms of Service overall, but other than that, you should be good! smile It's more of an issue of the current system not representing the current state of the Gaian community. There are several violations of course, but because of the lack of moderators and the piling up of issues on the forums, it would be beneficial to get more staff as soon as possible to help keep the forums afloat. Reducing the amount of reports needed to apply would allow more users to apply much faster to a team that desperately needs it. I was not aware that the process was within a six month period, rather than a six month wait. That is very good to hear. However, having to submit various reports rather than the most visible is not such good news. Because these advertisers are what we're confronted with the most on the daily basis, it accounts for a good chunk of the reports we make. When the site was much more active, it might have been easier to find multiple instances, but they seem few and far between on most parts of the site. EDIT: Since we're getting close to the end of the discussion, I can revise my questions and we can continue next week, if that's alright. Reporting more serious types of violations helps us see you understand that ads are not the most important/the only content for mods to deal with. This is considered when applications are reviewed. Jak Bauer Apollos Liar Jak Bauer Apollos Liar USERS, RULESThis is mostly a question for the moderators. Recently Knight Yoshi (ATS regular, GaiaUpgrade dev) was banned for "trolling" over a political discussion in Site Feedback. Could anyone explain why it was considered trolling so that we understand what crosses the line in that regard? Some fairly strong political discussions take place on Gaia and I feel it is in all of our best interests to understand where we are covered and how. Hi there, Unfortunately we can't discuss the details of an account with anyone other than the account owner. They can file a ticket in the Help Center to appeal their ban. If they don't know why they haven't been banned they can send me an inbox and I can explain it to them. I might have worded that a bit poorly. I don't really want details on the banning itself nor do I expect them, but I'd like to know how trolling would play into controversial political discussions. I wouldn't want to see users being punished over debate, regardless of the topic or feelings involved. You are making an assumption that the discussion was the reason the account was banned. As I said, we can't discuss any details but I can tell you that unless something you say breaks the rules, having a discussion, no matter how political typically will not get you banned. Gaia makes no judgements on your political opinions and welcomes any and all discussion. We only get involved if it changes from vigorous conversation to Trolling. Jak Bauer Vision Blurs MiscellaneousAbout... How long does it take to hear back after you've submitted an application for a moderator position? I'm curious. cat_3nodding Hi there, To be honest, way too long and I will take the hit on this as I am the one who is supposed to take care of it. I will be looking intensely into both reviewing current ModApps and doing our best to getting some people into training to become Moderators A.S.A.P. Lanzer dis weebsite suxs Features > Forums Would i get banned if i said theres only two genders? Always okay to share your own opinion, but be considerate to who you're talking to, and always consider the point of your post, instead of whether you might be banned or not. Is your point to inform the reader, provide an alternative point of view with supporting reason, or for something else? Imagine yourself as the person you're posting to, if you deem that your own post has a point to whoever's listening, good chance you're not breaking any forum rules. But of course, no matter what, the core forum rules still apply. Lanzer Chu-Lip Jam ItemsDo you happen to know how far into the mistagged items report thread items being fixed are? August 14th, 2019: Lanzer Orchid Dreams Features - RunwayIn a previous AtS, long, long ago, someone asked about changing the runway rule that allows asking for votes in CB to no longer be allowed. A staff member said you would revisit the idea of removing the exemption of CB votes, but nothing has come from it, so can we now get a definite answer to that question? Can we change the rules to no longer allow begging for votes anywhere? Sorry we couldn't find a good way to automatically enforce this rule. Unlike Avatar Arena, it was much harder to detect patterns where this is happening. For the time being, we can only have moderators remove Runway entries from reports of this happening. September 17th, 2019: [NPC] Gaia Staff Welcome Back! Quote: FeaturesIs it possible to have a quick "find and replace" of old image urls on the forums? Thumbnails are broken all over the place in old threads due to the change from "s.cdn.gaiaonline.com" to "graphics.gaiaonline.com". If not automatic, as it could easily break some posts if they almost reached the characters limit or something else, at least a quick button a post writer could press on which would let them preview the fix before proceeding. Another possibility could be to have a button which allow users which find a post they want to see properly to view it with the content replacement. Guides and item lists are rather useful and a shorter way to edit them would greatly help. Good point on the broken images. We can add a filter to replace all the old URL to the new ones. Expect a patch within a week or so. Lanzer Apollos Liar FEATURES / BROWSER EXTENSIONHey everyone. So why are you guys building a browser extension for your own website? Isn't that kind of bizarre? I don't understand why it's necessary to implement a dark theme on the site instead of just editing the coding and giving us a toggle switch. Also, what is this "secondary ad revenue" about? I don't feel safe using the extension at all with that wording. Are you going create pop-ups, override or break our adblock extensions, sell our information, or what? We'll soon have an FAQ on the browser extension for Gaia, it's a sponsorship to promote a 3rd party search engine, and in turn they help put resources into building some features for us, and that happen to be dark mode for forums. There aren't anything crazy like selling user info, and no overriding adblock, those types of stuff. Lanzer Hypnotic Dentist Features / Gaia Mobile AppWhen will a notifications system be added to the Gaia Mobile app? (idk if its already been implemented for the apple version, but there isnt one that i can see on the android version). It's frustrating to post in the forums on mobile and not know when someone has quoted you/replied or sent you a PM We're working on that, along with chat features. I think chat will come out first then notifications.
