  Elena always found comfort in Tate's arms. It was as if he could sheild her from everything, though the world felt like it was tumbling down on her shoulders She didn't know why, and she didn't want to know why but she just accepted it. She just wanted to be safe and to be happy with Tate, even if they are just going to be stuck in the friend zone. It was as if Tate was unable to see how much she liked him. Of course, she haven't made a move yet which Caroline keeps suggesting. To let him in and to show him just how much she liked him. But Elena was afraid that she would ruin what speed that they were going on right now. She was afraid that the affectionate hugs would stop and that she wouldn't feel them anymore because then he would know that she has romantic feelings for him, though he doesn't return them. Nonetheless, Elena was still a coward when it comes to tell him. But it was as if everything else comes out of her mouth so easily and so fluently like a second language such as stories that need to be shared.
The idea of moving in with Tate seemed like she was going to be on house arrest but then again it was better safe than sorry. Also, it was almost as if they were to be living together, as a real couple. Though, Elena didn't want to get herself carried away. "You sure?" she asked, watching as he stepped away from her and went back to eating his pizza. That intimate touch... she wanted to feel that again. "What if another werewolf tries to get me when you're not around. Like school?" Elena didn't want to think about these attacks that been brought on her, but she couldn't help it. "I can't believe after all this time, I didn't suspect that you were a vampire. The only weird thing was Caroline saying that you reek of dog."

♣ "They won't attack you at school, I promise" It would be stupid if they did, right? School had a lot of witnesses. Tate didn't intend on keeping Elena locked up in his room like she was Rapunzel but now he had to think about what he'd do outside of the house. He was already with her majority of the day without her living with him, they could keep up the record of how much they hang out. Anything to keep her safe. But if she wanted space from Tate, he'd let her but he'd have to show her how to protect herself if anything bad happens. "You're just living with me for protecting when you're alone, simple. When you're at school, I don't think a werewolf would just come up to you and...." Tate didn't want to get graphic with Elena as to what a werewolf was capable of doing to her so her just bit into his delicious pizza slice and let his eyes roam to the ceiling. "You'll be fine. Kai's real good with stuff, she'll show you what to do if anything bad happens. " Tate finished off his pizza slice and replace the empty space on his plate with another two slices. She said she'd eat later so he trusted her...plus he didn't want the pizza to go to waste.
Tate's brows knitted when he was let known of Caroline's commentary about his scent. " I do not" Clearly, he was offended by this. Did he actually smell like dog? Tate took a step back from Elena, giving her space just in case he really smelt like a dog. Tate continued to eat his pizza slice, but was now more self conscious of himself. What if he actually smelled and Elena didn't tell him to spare his feelings? This was a mood killer. " Caroline sucks" he muttered, chewing his pizza. To Tate, he felt like he had a pretty average appetite. Basically, he ate a lot. But he really shows down after a full moon - he could eat a whole restaurant with how hungry he gets. " Maybe we should get packing for you.....Bring whatever you think would make you feel more comfortable." He smiled at her. " And, if you still want, we could have our movie night. Just on a smaller scale...." He wouldn't risk having her in the living room while Ash was on the prowl. He loved his half brother but the dude was weird and Tate didn't want Ash to scare her off. " You, me, Netflix on my laptop. Nice and simple."

Elena dragged her nails along her forehead a few times as she could feel her stress level rising above a normal level. She couldn't help it. After everything that was thrown on her shoulders recently, she couldn't find any second of happiness without something horribly crushing ruining the moment. Dropping her hand, she let Tate hug her, pressing her right cheek to his chest. She loved the smell of Tate whenever he held her close, how she could get a whiff of him. They fitted together in each other's arms as though they were the last puzzle pieces. Elena watched as Tate backed away from her, though, suddenly growing self conscious about himself regarding the comment about him smelling like a dog. Vampire have heightened senses, much like their sense of smell. So to Caroline, he smells like a werewolf. To Elena, he just smelled like the body soap he last used. Elena had to admit: Tate had his ways of making her feel a whole lot better. She let a smile twitch on her features before unwrapping her arms (which were crossed on her chest) and pulled Tate in for a hug. She grabbed his wrist, the one that didn't hold a pizza, and pulled it close to her until it was behind her back. When the blonde was close enough, she rewrapped her arms around his torso again, her cheek resting against his chest. "I'm sorry that this is happening.. I can't imagine how you feel right now," Elena whispered.

♣ If there was one thing that Tate couldn't deny, it would be his love for Elena. Whether his love was romantic, or solely because their friendship was so strong, did not matter to him. He honestly only wanted to make sure she was safe. And if hugging him brought comfort to her then Tate would hug her until the end of time. He hadn't been dealing with the werewolf business for long. He had turned, rather than the alternative of dying, and had learned to deal with his new nature, but hadn't dealt with many werewolves other than his own sister. Now he had to deal with a whole other pack and they were coming straight up to the doorstep of someone he dearly cared about. It seems that, as quickly they had let go of each other, Elena pulled him right back in for another hug. He held onto her tightly and grunted when she apologized for what was happening. It didn't matter how he felt. He didn't think that it could compare to the feeling of being a possible target. He was only concerned for his best friend, he couldn't imagine losing her. " Don't worry about how I feel, alright? I'm worried, that's all. I want you to be safe" Tate kissed the top of Elena's head, rubbing her back with his free hand. " You're going to be safe, no one's going to hurt you. And if they try, they're going to have to go through me first." He's never killed, he didn't even want to conceive the thought of himself killing in a rage heightened by an impending full moon, but he would kill to protect anyone he cared about. The boy exhaled heavily, a million and one thoughts running through his head about where they could go with this. She would move in with him, live in his room, but she couldn't live there forever... he couldn't make her do such a thing. There was no doubt in his mind that Elena would be more than safe in his house, he was more concerned with keeping her safe everywhere else, this meant he was thinking of how to get rid of the alphas. He was hoping that they'd get bored with the little town of Mystic Falls and move on to some place where their terrorizing would go more noticed. "Everything's going to be fine, I promise. Maybe we should pack to focus on something other than werewolves."

Elena would be lying if she said that she wasn't happy to be with Tate right now. It's been a while since the car wreck, and the pair were cooped up in her house when they weren't at school. Kailan has been nicer to Elena, especially since they had to sent away Jeremy for the reason being of the werewolves. Damon and Stefan has been a bit hush on the other side of the phone, but still kept her daily updates of what is to come. So far, nothing declaring war has been made, but they suggested that she should keep her eyes out for anything such. Moving down the stairs after another morning, she rubbed her eyelids. Elena let Tate take over Jeremy's room for the time being, since protection was number one on his head. She didn't mind. She enjoyed his company. Relying on a werewolf friend wasn't exactly what she expected of her life, but as long as Tate was here, she accepted it. Moving to the kitchen, she almost convinced herself to surprise Tate with a breakfast. However, knowing her and her lack of good cooking skills, she knew that she wouldn't be able to possess such ability. If anything, Elena would burn down the house. So, instead, she grabbed herself a bowl, some milk, and coca pebbles. Some cereal in the morning to start her day shouldn't hurt, right? Leaning against the counter, she dug her spoon into the cereal and started to fill her stomach with delicious food.

♣ Sometimes it felt weird to Tate that they settled into living together so easily. Yeah, sure, he was living in Jeremy's room for the time being but it still counted. It was like he had two houses now, sometimes he'd head over to his own house to confer with his siblings or to just pick up a shirt or something that he wanted specifically but, other than that, he stayed right by Elena's side. There was a point where he tried to give her as much space as he could while sharing the same house because he didn't want to suffocate her with this. As long as there were no alpha problems, Tate had a sound mind. Tate was usually up pretty early in the mornings but he didn't get out of his bed today, he just laid there thinking about how he suddenly became someone's protector. Tate rolled himself out of bed and made his way down to the kitchen. The boy was too busy walking with his eyes closed and hands through his hair to even see Elena. But he still managed to stop walking dead in his tracks. " G'mornin' " he said, opening his eyes and rubbing them a bit. " I think it's time for a hair cut..." he claimed, tugging his blonde locks gently. " Do my eyes deceive me? Is Elena Gilbert consuming something other than coffee at such an early time?"

A quiet chuckled hummed from her lips as she could hear Tate trudge his sleepy self into the kitchen
for that morning. Most high school students believe that Elena was just 'knocked up' and that explained
why Tate was basically living with her now. However, in nine months, or even earlier, people will
realize that they are wrong.
Elena didn't mind the rumors. As long as her true friends ( Bonnie, Caroline, Matt, and, unfortunately,
the Salvatores ) knew the truth, all was well. Elena brought the spoon full of cereal to her lips and
grinned at Tate as he fell into her sight. Grabbing the bowl, and ignoring Tate's comment regarding
her only consuming something other than coffee, Elena made her way around the table and towards Tate.
Reaching her free hand up, she ruffled his blonde locks and dropped her hand to his chin to make him face
her. "I think you look adorable." And thus, he was granted a brief, quick kiss on the cheek before she continued
her path towards her living room with her cereal. "Are you glad today's Saturday?"

♣ Tate rolled his eyes when she claimed that he was adorable and nearly objected but he was cut off by her kissing his cheek. They've been living together for some time now and he still isn't used to when she sneaks in little things like that. There have been several occasions when they were relaxing and watching movies when he suddenly got the courage to tell her about his feelings but that courage would disappear as quickly as it came. His eyes followed her as she made her way to the living room and, soon, his body followed also. " I'm always glad about Saturdays" he grumbled, still messing with his hair. Kai was the one that got the idea in his head that he may need to cut it soon. She made a joke about confusing him for Ash and suddenly the dawn of the end of the world was known to Tate. He would not let his hair grow that long. Tate threw himself onto the couch besides Elena, staring up at the ceiling. " So... how's the baby?" he joked, suddenly looking at her and winking. The whole baby rumors were his favorite part about all this. He hated that Elena was the subject of such harsh rumors but he really enjoyed that people felt that he and Elena could be so far into the relationship that he could get Elena pregnant. " 'lena" he breathed. " Let me take you out. Let's go somewhere. Let's go out to dinner for once, somewhere real swanky too. My mom used to love taking us to this dive a town over. What'dya say? " He didn't say anything about it being a date, if she interpreted it that way than great! But he wouldn't call it a date and suddenly make their living together an awkward thing. Sometimes he wished that their friendship wasn't so important to him, then he would be able to just ask her out and suffer the consequences. But other times, like now, when they are just sitting around and talking, he's really glad that they became such good friends. " We don't get out enough, people need to see our gorgeous faces more often."

Elena was careful with her bowl of cereal in her hands when Tate tossed himself onto the couch beside her. She didn't want the brief weight that sank into the couch beside her to tilt her body and let the milk and cereal run onto her and the furniture. However, she relaxed when the couch settled back into it's normal weight and she wasn't arched on a different angle. Her smile did remain on her face, however, as she took another spoonful to her mouth and looked at Tate. Go out. Sounded tempting. However, she was almost convinced that she had no choice but to live off of staying at home and staying in school. It was nice to hear the offer to go out.
As if she grew flustered, Elena tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and chuckled lightly at Tate. She wanted to ask if he was asking her out on a date, but this wouldn't be the first time they went out together as two people just hanging out. She paused momentarily to think her words as she swiped her tongue across her lower lip. She blinked once. Twice. And decided. "Alright. Let's do it. Better than staying here and cooped up all day, right?"

♣ He grew a bit nervous when she took her slow, sweet time with answering his proposal to go out. When she agreed, a broad smile came on to Tate's face, showing his dimples. " Great! I mean, cool, cool". Even if this was just a friend thing, the boy didn't want to seem too over eager. " Let's be honest here, did you just have to consider eating out with me? Is the goddess Elena Gilbert too good to be seen outside of school with someone like me? Is that what it is?" Tate held a hand over his heart, pretending to be offended. He was playing the victim card again, something he had started to do very often to get under Elena's skin. " I think we need to get out more and stop surviving on simple dinners and takeout. No wonder people think we're expecting" Tate was a bit bummed that she didn't ask if it was a date but he was cool with being just friends, he just wanted Elena in his life for as long as he could keep her. " So, Little lady, you, me, fancy food, music to set the mood, I think I wouldn't be tooting my own horn if I say that I may just be responsible for one of our best hang out days."

Ever since the Salvatores, Elena never believed that she could bring herself to date anyone for at least the rest of high school. Wait until college, that was the plan. Mature, normal boys there. Because that’s what Elena needed: normal. However, she couldn’t deny the smile that appears on her face every time Tate spoke and became his usual, witty self. It was amazing how much she has smiled recently. Even Alaric pointed out her usual chipper attitude that only began since Tate moved in. Their time together was constant yet they never grew bored of each other’s presence.
Elena reached a hand up again, to run her nails through his blonde locks as he joked, teased, and talked. She liked listening to him. His voice was soothing. Definitely nice to hear before she goes to bed, that’s for sure. “Responsible? Us? For once?” Elena has gone to her fair share of parties, and drank more than once on occasions, but it’s not like she was always cheering loudly as a drunk or anything. She didn’t want to abuse the fact that she can secretly drink some beer from time to time. If Jeremy ever found out, he would use that against her and continue his freshmen year new hobby of getting high.
Poking Tate’s stomach once, Elena teased, “Well, I need to start planning my outfit.” Perhaps she could treat this as such, like a date. Call Caroline and Bonnie over, ask important details regarding what she should wear. Honestly, Elena hasn’t been on an actual date in quite some time and though this dinner was possibly anything but, she didn’t want to let the opportunity slip. “You should stop by your family’s house sometimes. Kailan actually got ahold of my phone and started texting me. Might want to watch out, Tate, because I hear she got herself a boyfriend.

♣ When Elena mentioned planning an outfit, Tate's eyes grew wide. Do girls always plan outfits? He knew Kai would do that when she was getting d**k so....Should he plan an outfit too? What should he even wear? He didn't want to wear a suit and seem too formal. Nor did he want to wear jeans and seem too casual. As if reading his mind, Elena suggested stopping by at his family's house. But the information about Kailan was new. " I'm sorry, what?!" his voice cracked unexpectedly when he spoke. Kailan texting Elena was surprising enough without the addition of her having a boyfriend. Why didn't he know about this? How did Elena know about this and he didn't? Tate was about ready to fly out of that house in his pajamas but he had to at least get dressed before he bombarded Kailan with questions.
♣ "So I guess I'm going to leave you by yourself until later. I've got to find out about this 'boyfriend'" Tate scoffed. " A boyfriend. I should at least meet him before she calls him her 'boyfriend'. What if he's a piece of s**t? What if he's like Damon" Tate shivered. He had a chronic nightmare of Damon and his sister getting it on and he rather not have that come to life. " Can you handle the time without me?" he started, his usually cocky grin on his face. " Cuz I don't think I can without you." Boom. Curveball. He raised his eyebrows at her, the smile still on his face. Yeah, he'd throw in a little bit of flirting here and there but not enough to make his feelings obvious. He wasn't even lying. Sometimes he could get a little restless without Elena being around to get his jokes. Tate got up from the couch and bent over to give Elena a kiss on the forehead. " I'll come by and pick you up later. You're going to love tonight, trust me. Now it's my time to go whip someone's a**."
♣ Once he was all showered up and freshly dressed, Tate made his way back to his own home. It was funny how things could change, he didn't even think of it as his home anymore. It was more of Kai and Ash's home. His home was with Elena. Tate opened the front door to the house and marched right in. " Kailan!" he cried out, closing the door loudly behind him. " Ash, you here, man?!" Well, he didn't give any text warning that he was arriving. He didn't want Kai to be prepared for this.

Tate’s loud, booming voice added onto the headache pounding in her head and it made her brain feel as though it was throbbing against her skull with each words that he spoke. Gold flecked eyes glared at her brother and her lips turned into a scowl. Not for his words, but for his voice. If it wasn’t clear already, especially from Ash’s malicious laugh, Kailan had a hangover.
“Let’s play the inside voices game, okay, baby bro?” Kailan requested, her voice soft, gentle, unlike usual. The Monroe siblings all stood in the living room, well, Kailan was closer to her bedroom door. While they all stood, almost like a Western movie to see who drew the gun first, a door opening was heard.
Ash grew confused, wondering who on Earth could be here when they were all standing together. Thus, Derek revealed himself behind Kailan, hiding his clearly bare body with the door. Kailan didn’t look to Derek. All she needed was to see Ash and Tate’s reaction. Yes, she flirted with Damon here and there but it was to hide her relationship with Derek.
“I can explain..” was all Kailan said as her eyes had seemed to grow slightly bigger with worry. Ash reacted positively by a cackle, followed by a continuous stream of bent over laughing. But Kailan only shot a glare to their older stepbrother before facing Tate once again.

♣ Tate gave Ash and Kailan an odd look when he realized that Kailan was hung over. "Do you want some juice?" he asked, suddenly going from angry to concerned. Tate shared the same confusion as Ash when the door was heard. A chill ran down his spine when the idea of the only possible male came to his head: His dad. But it wasn't his dad. It was another male, much younger, clearly not someone Tate knew, and a lot more naked than their dad would ever be. The concern was gone, the anger was back. But before Tate could say anything, Ash started laughing. Ash was never the most serious out of the three but this wasn't the best time for him to go into a laughing attack.
♣ "Why the ******** are you laughing?" his voice was clearly bitter as he looked at his step-brother, avoiding his sister's gaze. " You're here laughing and there's a ********.... man in our house. A stranger. We've got a sister and you don't even know who's living under your roof." Tate wouldn't lie, there were times when he was ashamed of his brother. Now would be one of them. He was so upset, he couldn't even formulate his sentences well enough. How could Ash let this happen? Yes, Kailan was grown and had her own life but the house is the house. It's the shared house. Tate was struggling to watch out for both his sister and Elena so he felt that Ash could at least help out a bit but clearly he was wrong.
♣ "I want him out." said Tate, looking at his sister now. He didn't care how worried she looked, he was pissed. "I...... You can't even text a guy and let him know what's going on with you?". He wasn't over reacting to this. Kailan can have her fun and games all she wanted but he didn't joke around when it came to her heart, not after that last train wreck she dealt with. "Elena has to tell me that you've gone and gotten another...one. Elena had to tell me that. My own sister couldn't tell me?" Tate tangled a hand in his hair, shaking his head. " Since Ash is so ******** incompetent, I have to be the man of the house now. I want him out of here, Kailan. I'm not talking in front of a stranger."

She always assumed that she was the worst in his life, and so she never convinced herself that she was anything good to him. Derek had sulked away back into Kailan’s room, closing the door and getting dressed.
He knew when he overstayed his welcome.
Kailan, however, reached out and wrapped her arms around Tate. She was fighting conflicting emotions between anger and relief. Right now, relief burst through her as quick as a fire would be ignited. Hands gripped around then nape of Tate’s neck, chin on shoulder, and her eyes fluttered closed. Ash stopped laughing.
In fact, Ash was confused by such reaction out of Kailan and almost feared that he was going to be granted the same outcome: a rare Kailan hug. Kailan then roughly pushed Tate away and put her hands on his chest. Now here comes part two.
The part that Ash was all too familiar with. Kailan looked at Tate with a scolding look and crossed her arms. “What makes you think that you have the right to come barging in here and start barking around? Tate, I have tried to get into contact with you but it’s also a two way street, okay? When I call, you gotta be the one to pick it up.”
Kailan shoved a thumb in the direction of her door, gesturing to the man behind it. “And he isn’t a thing, Tate. His name is Derek, he took me out to dinner last night, and wanted to treat me to some coffee this morning. I’m sorry that I’m actually engaging myself into something where the opposite actually tries back. What, do you want me to kick him out and leave me to be single and chasing down guys?”
And now she stood by Ash, as though they were the bestest of friends. “And Ash works 24/7, Tate, as a bartender. He sleeps through the day so he can go to his job and pay for the roof over our heads right now and you know he’s a heavy sleeper. Plus, I can take care of myself. What’s in the past is in the past.”
