"I'm just glad everything worked out," Lin replied as she got up, "I should be heading out to check on Kyrie, but Earendil and I will try to visit again."

He did seem awfully lonely, and this situation will have probably made it worse. Bidding him good bye, she left to see how Kyrie was doing.

Mailon nodded, and after Lin left, he moved to lie down in his bed rather than sit by the window again.

Earendil was waiting for Lin in the waiting room, sitting in one of the chairs and leaning back with his head against the wall. He had his eyes closed, and he didn't hear Lin enter the room, so when she entered, he didn't move.

It was strange still, to be able to walk into a room and not have her husband hear her. Not wanting to startle him too badly she gently touched him on the shoulder once she was by his side.

Waiting for him to open his eyes and see her before talking.

Earendil's eyes flew open when Lin touched his shoulder, and he jumped slightly in surprise.

"Lin," he sighed when he saw her. He stood up and put his arms around her. "I don't think I'll ever get used to not hearing people approach."

He hugged her gently before letting her go again. "How did it go?" he asked her.

"To be fair, I can't hear elves approach by footstep," LIn replied wryly.

Elves gave off no sound when they walked, you depended on the sound of the cloth, which was too soft for Lin to catch most of the time.

"As for your question, better than I expected. He was horrified for certain, but I think he'll be okay. At least, he has new purpose to helping people, so he isn't going to do anything rash."

Earendil chuckled at Lin's first comment. She wouldn't be alone in that anymore.

"Well, I'm glad he's all right," he said softly. "Kyrie looked like she was falling apart when she left. She said she wanted to go for a run before going home, so Ahkshi went home without her."

He glanced out the window. "She's either brave or really troubled, to want to go for a run in this weather."

It had started raining while they'd been in with Mailon, and now it was quite the downpour.

Earendil glanced at Lin. "We're going to get soaked if we go out in that."

"I find from the time we've known Kyrie, she'll go out and do something physical if she's bothered enough," Lin commented.

True, most people wouldn't run in a downpour, but Lin had trained in one on a few occasions, and understood that when you went out traveling, who knew the kind of weather conditions you'd get.

"Considering how long she has been traveling by herself, this probably doesn't bother her too much..."

"That's true," Earendil agreed. "She doesn't seem to let weather bother her too much ..."

He looked out at the rain a moment longer, then sighed softly.

"Well, shall we return to our tent?" he asked her with a rueful smile.

"Might as well, unless you want to wait it out," Lin replied.

For some reason she wished for an umbrella, but realized it would have never occurred to anyone to bring one of those even during their travels.

"Though it wouldn't be the first time we've walked in the rain."

Or a monsoon.

Earendil chuckled softly. "Indeed. Well, we might as well go. If we end up cold, we can always snuggle for warmth."

He winked at her, then reached for her hand and opened the door.

It was nearly two days before the rain passed, though it passed in phases of light and heavy rain, and while the group from the Four Lands was snug and dry in their tents - though wanting for some hot food after two days with no fire - two travelers had been caught half a day's journey outside the city and without a tent.

Shoneah Adoeete Silverbirch was in a foul temper by the time the sun broke through the clouds on the third day. Thoroughly soaked and somewhat chilled, her bowstring was too wet to shoot with and what food they had that didn't spoil in the wetness was quite unappetizing by this point.

"Have we got anything we can sell when we get there for a chance for a warm bath?" she asked her companion as they packed their bags after a cold breakfast of jerked meat from an animal she hadn't recognized. "Other than the scales, I mean."

The dragon scales were just about the only thing she could think of - other than her pistols - that might be worth something, but they needed them too badly to be able to sell them.

Eron thought about the stuff they had packed away.. There was his journal, which wasn't worth anything to anyone, the pens he still had, again nothing worth to anyone. He finally ditched the textbooks part way through their journey, opting for more room so they could store chemicals.

His earth magic had improved but only to the point where the amounts of material he was pulling was small at best. During their trip, he hadn't (as far as he knew) found any material of great value.

"Not really no," Eron replied, "Whatever little chemicals we managed to get a hold of wouldn't be use to anyone, and I am starting to get the impression not everyone uses these materials so... my watch could be, but only for the metals and nothing else, and really they're not expensive metals by any stretch of the imagination."

There really was nothing else they had except the things they needed to travel with.

Shoneah sighed. "Well, maybe we'll find that woman everyone's been telling us about and she can help us," she said optimistically.

All she wanted for the moment was to dry out and have some hot food again.

"West by southwest," she murmured, glancing up at the sun. She shouldered her sopping bag and looked at Eron. "Pity your watch doesn't work," she quipped. "We could tell the direction more accurately if we knew the actual time."

She waited until Eron was ready, then started to lead them in the direction she felt most confident was the right one.

Eron followed along and nodded, "At least we got use to the longer day pretty fast."

It was tiring at first to travel with a longer day cycle, fortunately, he wasn't required to sleep through the whole night cycle thanks for the need in night watch. So he didn't have to make a huge adjustment there.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 29, 2014 5:40 pm

Shoneah smiled bemusedly. "Well, a longer day means a longer night," she pointed out. "So even if we're traveling longer, we do get about the same amount of sleep, even with taking watch."

There were advantages to this kind of life, she supposed. And she would be willing to admit that after five weeks in this world, she was beginning to like it - if only her family were with her ...

"True, but it's getting use to reaching that longer night first," Eron admitted.

He had been fit before coming here but now he probably could give some marathon runners a run for their money. Eron had probably never clocked so many paces in his whole up til now.

Looking ahead, he wondered if this woman they were supposed to look for would be there. He hoped so...
