Why did it seem that only the girls were planning to impress with any urgency this clutch? The gold had gotten right to it and the greens were gradually working their way through the candidates. Rocellia was sure she'd only seen one boy hatchling impress so far and that had been the brown at the start. There were a lot more blues now and she was pleased by that. They were a lovely little group that Rocellia often felt were over looked even among the chromatic colours. The browns were the biggest and really on the back of a brown you could advance if you wanted to, but it didn't matter if you did. With greens they were the girls and tended to be very varied and unique, of course all dragons were unique, but the greens were the ones that got the credit for it. The blues however just seemed to sit in the middle, you could reach a rank on a blue, but it'd take a lot of extra work to get there and she guessed that would put some people off. Somewhat lost in her own inner musings, Rocellia twisted her foot into the wet sand. Other than the green that had darted up and then rushed off, none of the dragons had really taken much notice of her. She couldn't claim the touching had been too amasingly eventful either, not compared to how some other people had reacted to the eggs. Oh well, maybe this clutch just didn't have a dragon for her among them. She could always try next time, she had plenty of turns left before she aged out.

Cai

Cai swore as the silver blue climbed into the Stands. That was the one thing he had hoped wouldn't happen! The Sands had room for candidates to move, and they were trained (he hoped!) to be able to avoid hatchling claws (though some seemed to not have two half-wits to rub together). The Stands were crowded, filled with people of all ages with very little room to move or escape. And volatile personalities... who knew if someone would punch the hatchling or shove it in fear.

"Prep!" He called to the other healers and ran up the stairs into the Stands himself. The hatchling was ahead of him, but he wasn't after it. He wasn't a shaffing idiot as to do that. No, Cai was inspecting each person in it's path, sending those injured by more than bruises and fright down to the healer's tables to get fixed. Those with minor cuts could wait, but any who had been accidentally caught by the babies claws would be better tended to sooner. That, and if he turned violent again, Cai wanted to be right there.

Paige

She had to restrain herself from throwing her arms around Kaimi and jumping up and down. She was so excited though! Kaimi was there! She'd Impressed too! She had a dragon! "She's amazing!" Paige breathed, beaming with pleasure for her friend and her new bonded.

The emphasis on 'my' was not lost on her and as she glanced back at Venaith and met those soft blue eyes she knew it didn't apply. Venaith was not hers. She was Venaith's, mind, body and heart. She would do anything for this creature who's whole being was more important than the very air itself. "This is Venaith." She smiled again, her eyes misting with tears she was so incredibly happy. Nothing could ever be better than this moment right here, smeared with blood and drenched in rain.

Kaimi

"Hello, Venaith." She said, giving the little gold a curtsy. She felt a wash of approval from Zimrith - it was good to be polite. Being polite was the proper thing to do, and ladies must always be ladies. Kaimi chewed on this impression briefly - it looked like she was going to have to re-evaluate some things about her own behavior.

As she fed Zimrith, her own eyes watered a bit. Kaimi was not one who was inclined to cry, but it seemed that there was so much excess emotion all of the sudden! Everything she was seemed to pour into Zimrith, and everything her dragon was seemed to be pouring into her. It was an overwhelming feeling, to say the least.

"I wonder if it will always feel like this." Kaimi said softly, though it was unclear if she was talking to Paige or to Zimrith or maybe just to herself. "Like I can't even breathe for happiness."

While the other hatchlings wreaked havoc on sands and in the stands, a low warbling noise came from the shadows behind Hyweth. It was quiet enough that, with the rain, only the most observant would have heard it. And only the most observant would have seen the little head peering out from behind his mother. It was a blue, but what egg had he come from? He wasn't as sandy or muddy as the hatchlings who had dug their way out from being buried. But there hadn't been another egg on the sands, had there? Hiding behind Hyweth? Nobody had noticed it? But here was a dragon. Something strange was afoot.

The little blue fellow looked around from the safety of the shadows before deciding that it was safe to come out. And then, gone was the nervous edge. The little blue slipped out from behind Hyweth with his head high and his wings raised. He practically pranced across the sand, showy as any metallic. After he was certain he had been noticed, he began to move towards the male candidates.

Dianno

What was with these hatchlings popping out of nowhere? It was unnerving to think he might have walked over top of dragon eggs without knowing. Was there a chance that was was hidden under them right now?

There were also an alarming number of dragons running about right now, especially the one up in the Stands. He'd never admit it out loud, but deep in his heart he feared for his mother. She was up there watching he was sure, and while he knew she had fought off wild felines, could she fight off a dragon? Another wave of anger radiated from him. If that blue hurt his mother he would kill it! He didn't care if they kicked him out of the weyr or branded him Holdless. He didn't want to be here anyways! It could maim all the people it wanted so long as it didn't touch his mother. He didn't care about them.

Jemi

Where was all these blues coming from? Jemi shook her head and looked at the new blue. Prance and showy little thing wasn't he? Though did another egg hatch? She didn't see any shells nor was the hatching filthily like the others that had climbed out of the sands. Strange.

Did this mess up her betting slip.

S'aen smiled when Kaimi mentioned lessons, and he nodded, "Yeah, me neither." It was odd, he would have never been excited about the idea before Impressing, the drive to return home and continue his old life had been all he could focus on. But.. now? How could he even consider such a thing? Although, he did want his younger siblings to meet Jaecath. They would love him. His father, even more so. He was the one who had pushed the S'aen into standing, and he had a lot to be thankful for. He had believed in him, that he could amount to so much more. "I think the weyrling master has his hands full with this group," he laughed, eyes resting on the large blue who had taken into belly flopping on the sands.

Indeed he is. Jaecath's eyes whirled blue as he listened to Zimrith's words, obviously quite pleased. I have faith in the rest of our siblings' judgment, even if they seem a bit distracted from the task at hand. Even though the brown was the type to get the job done in a timely manner, he understood not everyone was the same way. Even if it made... little sense. It was only when their antics became violent towards others, especially those who cannot defend themselves, that he started to grow concerned.

The newly revealed blue left S'aen also pondering why there seemed to be so many hidden eggs. Although, Jaecath had come from one so he wasn't too bothered in that regard. It wasn't very safe, though.

She watched as more dragons hatched from their shells and more dragons impressed. She hoped Fiolen would impress one, there was definitely quite a few left without a rider to call their own. She gave him a warm smile and wondered how his nerves were holding up. She was all a bundle of nerves still and prayed the rest of the hatching went well.

The newest blue had no interest in messing around, unlike his siblings. People had sat up and taken notice, as was appropriate. He continued his prancing walk as he made his way through the male candidates. He paused by Dianno, sniffing the boy, and then sneezed. Nope, that wasn't the right one. But where was it? The blue's wings were beginning to droop just the slightest bit as frustration began to set in. His eyes began shifting from calm blues and greens to anger-tinged reds. Where was his?

A young candidate stepped forward as if to help him, and the blue snarled. No! He didn't need any help! Tail lashed, catching a couple unwary candidates by the legs and ankles and knocking them down, though no real injury was done. The blue stalked forward, no more thoughts of showing off in his mind. Then, suddenly, his head raised high and snapped around. Flashing red eyes locked onto Marinel.

Marinel! There you are! Come here to your Chasinth right now, I am tired of these and would like to be fed now. With that, Chasinth sat his haunches down and waited for Marinel to make his way over, completely ignoring the other candidates whom he had displaced.

Speaking of Fiolen, he was taught like a live wire, eyes wide despite the rain splashing against his face. He was staring at the crying blue, -pining- for it, even. However it seemed to look absolutely through him, as if it had no interest whatsoever. He could have sworn the beast was looking at Naressa though, but it seemed like it daren't approach. Perhaps it found the girl somewhat suitable, but felt like it was not his place to come near? His gaze seemed to slice through Fiolen and right through the back of him, leaving him feeling bereft when those eyes didn't swirl rainbow for him.

"He's so lovely. They all are. But he doesn't see me." It was hard to tell if he was crying, what with the rain. However, his high voice cracked at the very end, just a touch.

Up several rows and down an aisle went the Silver blue. A few he waited for them to move, others he just walked right over, some he shoved with his nose. The commotion behind him finally got his attention. He turned around, somewhat easier given his small size, to see what was causing it. What was that? He snapped his jaws and went back. Cai had definitely caught his attention.

The blue made sure the whole aisle was now clear by growling or snapping at those lingering. He went right up to the healer and sat his rump down. Whirling red eyes looked the man up and down. The blue seemed to be waiting for something, but what?

Naressa
Her heart sank at his words, she could see the desperation to be claimed in his eyes. She reached out her hand and placed it on his shoulder. Despite his oddness he was quite normal and caring in his own way. He just needed to come into himself and hadn't quite found the way yet. She was almost certain that if he impressed it would help give him the push he needed. She could be quite brash at times but she meant well in the end. "They are all lovely and I'm sure yours will find you soon enough." She wanted more than anything to impress as well, but if not today there were always other hatchings to come.

Dianno

Dianno watched the blue strut his way towards the boys with growing apprehension. Ooooh no. Oh no. He held still, his mind clamped shut as the blue sniffed at his clothing. He held his breath and waited what felt like hours until the hatchling sneezed and moved on. Dianno slumped with relief. That was far too close.

Had it have happened... he might have felt differently, but Dianno was the most grateful he'd ever been until the dragon smacked his calf with it's tail "Shaffing Beast!" He swore, surly mood firmly back in place as he grabbed the bruised appendage.

Cai

A chill went up Cai's spine as he firmly directed an older woman down to the healers, that no he would not 'tend to her needs' up here in the Stands. The chill was wholly unrelated to the woman though as she suddenly hurried from his side with a whimper of fear.

He turned and found himself face to face with the small blue dragon. It's eyes were red. Anger. Or was it hunger? He'd heard both. Well of course it was hungry. It was spending all of it's energy up here traipsing about instead of just grabbing a rider and getting itself fed. He met it's glare with one of his own as he straightened slowly. "Don't give me that look. I'm just cleaning up the mess you've made."
