NIGHTMARE SOLO PROMPT:

"Calathair! Calathair answer me!" Gwen cried, only to get no response. To say it didn't freak her out, and she wasn't scared would be a lie. She had some how lost him in... well where ever she was.. It was just an endless see of black. Void of depth or color of any kind. She wasn't sure how long she had been there but it had felt like hours since she had last heard Calathair in the back of her mind. "Where are you! Where did you go?!" That was the million dollar question wasn't it?

Like usual they had been arguing about something stupid, and like usual, the weapon kept calling her that blasted nickname. And she had taken the rather childish route of ending their fight by not talking to him at all. And it wasn't until later, that she had realized he hadn't said anything either. And that's when she noticed the shield was gone. Completely. As in no longer on her arm. Where the hell could he have gone? It's not like the a*****e could just sprout legs.

And now the girl found herself wandering around in circles calling for her weapon and getting nowhere fast. "Come on Calathair! This isn't funny! Say something! Anything!" Her voice cracked as she grew desperate. "Call me Princess again! Please! I don't care what it is, just answer me!" She cried. The brunette raised her arm to scrub at her face as she sniffled. The next thing the girl knew however, was that she was tripping over something in her path. The teen hit the ground with a thud. And when she sat up to see what it was, she felt her heart sink. There, in front of her, lay a pile of broken wooden shards. Some pieces had little white bits of paint sticking to them. And Gwen didn't even need to look at the pink ribbon mixed in with it. She knew who it was.

And so she screamed.

NIGHTMARE SOLO PROMPT:

His good eye sees moonlight threads swaying in the slatted dark, gleaming down in knots until they ravel out into frayed ends. They are wrapped around an indeterminable shape. He closes one eye, opens the other. It wakes in a kick of flame, burning the cloth that concealed it, and the room pulses painfully in blue until he regains focus. He sees it, then, the shadow shape, long-limbed and stretched, the jaw hanging loose above a deep, spiraling cavity in its chest. He sees strings there, too. Red and blue and violet, but red most of all.

He thinks he can see them twitch from time to time. But there's something missing.

Claws hook around his waist, followed by long, long arms, drawing him in. He knows the touch rather than feels it; the black eye saw the shadows shift on the walls. He relaxes. An old friend.

There's a smile against his ear. In front of his eyes, another dark shape moves. He opens both eyes. There, lying in his friend's shadowy hand, a red, wet thing quivers. "Ain't it been a long time since you had one of these, boss?"

The snowball hit him right in the back of the head before he'd even realized the game had begun. Laughing, he'd crouched to gather up a fist full of the stuff, turning and lobbing the icy projectile at... one of his brothers. Arne dove for the ground laughing, ducking under the snowball. It flew well over his head, smacking Calum in the back instead. The youngest sister yelled and cussed--somewhere, Aquilo was sure their mother's ears were turning red with instinct alone. Soon Calum was throwing snowballs at the boys, and they never stopped laughing. Somewhere, Kestral and Peragrine must have been watching. Or joining in. Snowballs were coming at him from every angle, and Aquilo was caught between laughter and yelps. Some of them actually hurt. Sort of. If this was the game they were going to play, two or four against one... well. He'd just have to even the playing field. Least until they followed suit.

The words came easily to him, whipping up a gust of wind that snatched up snow and tugged at clothing. It never crossed his mind that he'd done a spell he'd never tried before. Nor that Eadgard was nowhere to be found. He was a mage. Magic was his thing. It was the only logic he needed in that moment. The snow blustered and billowed around them in the wind, and even through his glasses he was having difficulty seeing far ahead of him. His siblings melted into the snow, though he could hear them calling. Somewhat. The wind picked up in intensity and volume, roaring around him and ripping sharply at his scarf. He gagged and pulled back on the cloth, trying to keep it from strangling him. The snow was getting heavier, large clumps of the flakes falling together every which way. He tried to speak the spell to undo the spell.

Nothing came to him. Not the knowledge of how to undo the spell he'd cast. Not the knowledge of what spell he'd even used. He could hear Peragrine shouting for him, demanding to know what he'd done. Aquilo strained his ears against the storm, trying to locate him. He didn't know. He didn't know. The wind ripped the words from his lips before he could even respond. Snowflakes were shoved down his throat, up his nose. The cold burned his flesh, choked him. He didn't know. His siblings were gone, lost in the white and howling. No spells came to him. His magic was gone. Eadgard was gone. His mind fled him. Stumbling, he tried to force his way through the piling snow. Past his boots. Up his calves. He could barely move. Barely breath. The cold burned his lungs and throat. He didn't know. White was all he could see. Blankets and rivets and mountains. White that burned and scorched and buried. Buried him. Was he facing down into the snow, or staring at the sky? He didn't know.

He didn't know.

The dark ate his voice before it even made it out of his throat. Chains bit into his limbs, chest, and wings. Each time he tried to move, he could feel a deeper, sharper pain as the metal sunk deeper. Moisture collected and fell. He couldn't hear his blood dripping onto the stone floor, not in that sound devouring darkness. But he could easily assume. Knew it must be pooling. The ground felt slick beneath his feet. How much was from him, how much was from the prison itself... impossible to judge. Impossible to know.

Time itself had no meaning. No light showed itself. No ticking of a clock. No stars. How he got there, when he arrived, for what purpose... all of it was lost to the dark. He had no beginning. Simply was. Bound. Shackled. No voice. No name. A body barely. The dark ate all. Chains restricted what little remained. Pain existed. Perhaps he could count time by the inches the chains sunk into his flesh? The limbs he lost when the chains cut too deep? Pain existed. Pain in the dark. The dark had not yet eaten that. He pulled at the chains again, adjusting his weight on his feet. They cut deeper.

He counted one.

His body swayed, torso straining against the binds. He counted two.

Three. His wings twitched, then twitched again at the pain. He counted four.

Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. Ten.

Did the chains bind him together? Keep him from falling apart? Falling to the dark? The pain was something. The pain existed. The dark had not yet taken the pain. The chains gifted him existence with the pain. If they let go, would he fall to nothing? Fall into the dark, lost? Unheard? Forgotten? Where was there ever record of him? Where did he exist outside the chains and the dark?

Flame. Sparks. Light. Too bright. He closed his eyes, turning away from the white and red and orange. Around him. In him. The flames sparked and roared. He let them come, entering his body through the chains. White hot. They sung. His flesh began to boil. Bubble. Peel away from the flames. Sliced, gashed, torn, it fell away. Into the dark. Into the nothing. Forgotten, unheard. The light did not remain. White hot faded to yellow, to orange, to red. Faded. The dark crept in. Cooled. Ate. Stole away. He opened his mouth and roared with the last flares of the fire. For a moment, he thought he heard. Heard through the dark. His voice. He. Beyond the pain, beyond the chains. Till the dark swallowed his voice. And then him.

NIGHTMARE SOLO PROMPT:

She had no regrets about what she'd done. It was all for the greater good, was it not? Or so she had thought. Fairytales were but fairytales, and reality was harsh. She joined for a reason; a noble cause. It was just temporary, right? Once everyone was safe and sound, she could go home. The world would be at peace, and everyone would live happily ever after. That was how all stories go.

But not this one.
How long had it been? A few weeks? Months at most.
At long last, she finally returned home, but...

There was a picture of her on the mantle, and her parents were standing before it. Papa had his arms around mama, and mama... was crying?
The door opened slowly, and she stepped inside, waitin by the doorway for them to notice, but they never turned. And so she ran up to them, called out their names. Still no response.

Confused, she reached out to touch mama's dress, only to watch her hand go right through, and she let out a startled cry. She tried again, this time, reaching for the picture. The same result.
With a sinking feeling, she ran upstairs, opening the door to her bedroom. Everything was gone. But why? She had only been gone for a while... she had told them too, hasn't she?

And then she saw it.
On the bed, was a plaque.
"Beloved daughter. Forever cherished."

It had been so long since she had cried, but finally she did.
The girl Mimi Magloire was no more.

The only source of light was the white light flooding in from an open door at the end of the long corridor. If she strained her ears hard enough, she could make out familiar voices and soft laughter coming from the other side of the door... Perhaps they were waiting? For her?

She stood up from the ground, and dusted herself off, patting down and soothing out the creases of her dress. But as she took her first step, she realized that something was off; it was like she was trying to move through that gelatinous cube she got her first set of school supplies from. Every step forward resulted in the door looking a little further away, and soon, she couldn't hear the voices anymore. She was too far away. What had she been doing all this time?

She was going to get left behind at this rate.

Keeping her eyes open was a chore, and the blood in her mouth was making it difficult to breathe without choking; part of her thought that it might just be easier and dignified to just close her eyes, and be done with life already. She had done enough. They all did. Maybe she'll see them whenever people go after they're dead.

As her vision started to go out of focus, she pulled herself up to the figure, panting heavily. Using the last ounce of her energy, she moved her hand to rest on his butt.

"See you on the other side, Judy."

A song can be heard through the blustening icy cold winds. No, it was like the winds itself was the errie song, being played on repeat. Walking through a forest that held no shield of protection against this furry blizzard. Yet I keep going, with every heavy step, arms clutch across my cross. As to keep warm, yet it didnt feel cold. Something in my mind told me that it must be cold, walking in this endless blank of white.

Perking up my ears to listen for any signs of life, but at last... Only the errie medley floats in, now feeling the wind of icy shards stinging like tiny little neddles. As i continue on, what is it i keep on going? Is this some possible memory? Or... Flashes of scene seemed to try and pop up, of red snow scattered about and of large whole. Quickly shocking it away, i continue towards some unknown place. Or prehaps....

It can be two lines and that is fine seriously! Whatever you're comfortable with. Think of it as a writing exercise)

Okay, so it starts out...it starts out easy. Familiar.

A rooftop.

That's always fine with her. Rooftops are old hat, if they're flat and her eyes have adjusted enough to the darkness to sense the skylights and...okay, well, Puella isn't sure what the little miniature chimney-type things are, but she knows she should walk around them. Duh.

It's a lonely rooftop, which is good because it's harder to get caught like this. The tallest buildings are the most popular because people think it gives them cred; it's cool to be high up, and you feel like you're towering above all the little tiny plebs who never learned how to pick a lock. Also, people are right about the view - watching the sun set or watching people set off fireworks is pretty awesome from the top of whatever the tallest building around is. But a large gathering of people means a large gathering of people who have the capacity for attracting attention - no matter how discreet you think you are, being able to talk to someone else makes you ten times more visible. Rooftops are best alone, or with just one friend to lift you up onto ledges if you're short or bad at jumping. Puella's great at jumping.

There's a light breeze easing itself around Puella, the little ghoul with bright eyes crouched on top of the roof. Tonight she's on top of the world; tonight she's in her zone. Tonight she's wearing a fawn-colored dress accented with piles and piles of black lace, a dainty homage to -

Wait. Wait, no. Puella doesn't wear black at night, especially not on nights where she's planning to do something like this. She can imagine herself now: silhouetted, too dark in parts and far too pale in others. She isn't even wearing gloves. (It's freezing tonight, she's surprised to note.) She takes another step - where...where had the entrance been? Why is she suddenly tottering? She looks down, sweat (so out of place here) beading on her delicate neck. A skyligh - oh, oh, no. Why is she wearing these heels? They have to be four, five inches tall. At most. It's like hiking on stilts. She can't make a hasty escape like this! She scurries around the edge of the roof in search of the entrance so she can quickly find herself somewhere less noticeable, hoping that no, er, security person has already seen her loitering about where she isn't supposed to be. Had it been this hard to balance herself before? She scoops her skirts into her hand and tiptoes, tiptoes, tiptoes -

back...to where she started. Where was the roof's entrance before? How has she found herself up here? The breeze is stronger now, strong enough to lift the little pillbox hat right from her hea - wait, no. Wait, little hat - Puella needs you! She thinks to run but it's frankly an impossibility in these shoes: and besides, she can't see the hat anymore. (How unlikely, she finds herself thinking in the back of her mind - but then again...then again, it's dark out. The dream rolls a fog of complacency over her even as her heart rate quickens.) Where has it gone? More importantly, where is she?

She can't remember. She can't remember finding her way up here. She can't remember the climb, the jimmying of the door. She can't remember if she had to jump on a ledge to get a plank of wood to - she doesn't have any tools with her, she realizes. She's just got a lovely little dress and tall, tall shoes - they're so very, very tall. It's a slinky little dress, she's surprised to note. She doesn't wear things like these - she doesn't...

Who's that? How'd he get here? It's a he, Puella thinks. It's such a smooth silhouette. She can barely see him, dressed in navy - she's so envious. She's like a beacon right now. She comes closer. "Sorry," she says. "I'm - I can't remember where the entrance is. It's so si - "

He was descending from a helicopter, she notes numbly. She wasn't - she didn't - how had she not seen it? How had she not heard it? What is she doing up here?

"Ma'am," he says. "What are you doing up here so late at night?"

She opens her mouth dumbly. This is - no - this is - she can do this.

She closes her mouth. Opens it again. Nothing comes out.

"I...I..."

She wakes up.

He started to walk quicker, breathing getting quicker. THis was not right. The scenery was not right, not familiar. He had already had to adjust to one place, now another? This was not happening. He couldn't do it. He couldn't change that quickly-

He pulled the sheets around him twisting as a grown escaped his lips, he was dreaming he was sure of it as sweat started to bead around his face. He clutched his chest as pain erupted from the lingering scar, it would never end.

Never end and never forgotten.

Standing there in the middle of the green field he watched as the grass laid flatten across the ground as the helicopter lifted off. Peering up he waved at it before heading back to the female standing there as his brain continued to scream at him. RUN RUN LEAVE DON’T STAY TRAP DUDE IT’S A ******** TRAP. He could feel his fingers, even his feet as they took each step on the muddy ground but it was all heavy like as if he was walking though a world made of clear jello. Everything in his mind was foggy like the ground after it rained; he didn’t remember why he was there, or what that place really was yet his body continued with each motion as if programmed to complete a written task.

Still heavy like lead he walked over to the female, a friendly grin still plastered on his face as words were spoken about how she was and about the others.

Sasha… That was right, Sasha, it was some sort of mission something about a weapon. It was lost, or stolen, words things he couldn’t remember even as he gripped his head with his hands, this wasn’t right. Something was wrong, there was a reason that this was all wrong he needed to remember, he needed to leave to get out.

“Why can’t I remember?” He whispered to her his voice hoarse his fingers were moving he tired to stop it; he tried to stop himself from summoning his weapon as it appeared in his hands. His body moved into a defensive stance as a laugh started to echo.

She spoke as a grin started to slip across her lips before twitching at the corners he watched in horror as her face started to twist and change.

Sarah…

The image from the photo, it was her, a puzzle piece still missing somewhere in his memories. He couldn’t remember why, whom she was but for some reason had kept it hanging on the wall in his room. Kasi had said it was sad, something sad deep within but he had shrugged it off. All he knew was the name Sarah written on the back of the photo, “Summer with Sarah.”

“Hello brother, long time without seeing you? So tell me Matt, why? Why?” Tears started to slide down her face as she lunged forward, the staff colliding into his ribs as a sickening noise of a crack gave way as he fell to his knees. His weapon was thrown a few steps away he leaned forward trying to stretch his fingers out to grab it.

“How could you?! You promised! You promised!” She screamed as the staff landed a heavy blow across his back. He wanted to scream but the sound wouldn’t leave his lungs as he rolled onto his back, the pain throbbed on both sides. His breath started to grow shallow as he tried to gasp for more air, he was pretty sure that he had broken a rib even worse it punctured a lung as blood started to fill in. Tears were still streaming down her face as her hair fluttered in the breeze. She stood over him now as the staff’s end pointed at his chest. It started to shift and began to form crystals around the orb, pointed ends in multiple direction glistened as the light lingered on them. She sobbed for a moment and then brought the staff high above her head as she shook her head slowly.

“How could you brother, how could you forget me? You let me die all-alone, it was your fault that it happened. YOURS! You could have helped you could have stopped it but you didn’t.” The tears wouldn’t stop streaming down her cheeks as her hands trembled with the staff. With one movement she brought it down into his chest, he could feel it like fire spreading across his chest as he watched her collapse still sobbing.

He tried to lift his hand but it wouldn’t move, instead he watched her still sobbing as the tears started to mix with his blood along her once white dress.

Sarah…

Black arms stretched up from the ground wrapping their fingers around him pulling down into the ground. He didn’t try to fight, not that he could his body was stiff, almost frozen into death as he continued to sink further down.

“How could you… how… how…” Matt could still hear her sobbing unaware as he drifted further away from her into the black ink of the ground.

NIGHTMARE SOLO PROMPT:
The candle flickered as the pen scratched along the pages of the book, a look of annoyance lingered on her face. All night and she still had no idea what had happened before she had woken up and started attending the school. There was no use in trying to remember, not anymore instead she needed power. The feeling of lacking any memory made her worry, it made her concerned that not only she had forgotten useless information but the information she needed. She was weak, her book she was sure it had to have more spells in it but they were gone.

All of it blackness.

She sat in the library, combing through books looking for anything to start filing her pages, late nights so no one bothered her. Even a few times she had fallen asleep on the books.

Still she would write her foot tapping on the ground as she flipped another page. Nothing absolutely useless.

Lass sighed as she slumped down in the chair, her braids dangling to the floor as she stared at the ceiling.

Tap, tap, clank, tap tap sounded as something moved along the aisle of books. Leaning forward she looked around, no one should be there or at least no one ever really was this far in the library.

“Hello?” She called out, nothing except another clank and taps as it seemed to continued to move. Getting up from her chair she grabbed the candle from the desk shinning it into the aisle.Nothing, no one was there yet she could still hear it. The noise as it stepped even closer and closer to her a voice sounded.

“Lasairfhíona….”

Turning she stared, nothing was there yet she knew something was still watching her.

“How dare you hide in the shadows show yourself,” She yelled as she swung around holding the candle forward.

“Lasairfhíona….”

It whispered again as pain emerged in her chest, peering down as the candle escaped her grasp she stared in shock. The end of the blade gleamed before it pulled out letting her body fall to the floor.

“Lasairfhíona….”

This time it was louder, she tried to take in a breath of air her lungs screaming in pain as she started to cough up the blood. It splattered across the ground as she tried to roll over on her back, he stood there sword still in hand. Garnished in metal from head to toe like a black knight. He brought the sword up high as she tried to open her book.

A spell something anything to stop it she had to get away but she could hear it the sound as the sword was brought down. She woke with a start her head on a book with ink spilt across the table.
