Alastor couldn't help but give a small chuckle. "No. Nobody knows what I am right away. I found him quite by accident. It was way before you were born. Things were different then." he said softly, closing his eyes and relaxing for a little while.

"But did you get to know him before you took him, or did he come willingly?" Lucas questioned softly. He didn't want to end up on the wrong end of the man's temper. "Different how?" he questioned eating the food which had been given to him before putting the plate aside.

Alastor opened one of his eyes to glare at Lucas for a brief moment but it seemed the boy was adament about his question. "We got to know each other first. We were both in our early twenties so it was easy to get to know him. But that was the mid 1800's. Times have changed so much since then." he said softly, closing his eye once more and relaxing, hoping the questions would cease soon.

Lucas dropped his head a bit when Alastor glared at him. When Alastor still answered his question though he felt relieved and nodded not pressing anymore. "Wait the 1800's that's a long time. You live longer than your mates... Do you replace them when they get old?" he questioned.

Alastor shook his head. "No....I don't replace my mates. But then again my last mate died early in his life." he said softly. Alastor continued to lay against the chair for a little while longer before sitting up and taking Lucas' plate when he was finished. "Why all of the questions so suddenly?" he asked curiously, wrapping his arms around Lucas' body gently and resting his head against the boy's shoulder.

"How long do mates live for?" Lucas questioned curiously. If Alastor didn't replace mates and the other one had died early then it didn't make sense for mates to only have a human life span and be able to survive the pain inflicted. "I figured if I'm stuck here it might be nice to know what i'm in for." Lucas stated looking up to Alastor as the man wrapped his arms around him and rested his head against his shoulder. It was almost a comforting weight.

Alastor gave a soft sigh, not the answer he was hoping for. "Well...since technically mates are human...well I'm sure you can figure that one out. Sometimes my kind will mate with another of my kind. In that case they could live for many centuries, possibly forever, until someone learns how to kill us." he said softly, still thinking about his previous mate. It was heartbreaking watching his first love die at such a young age.

Lucas almost felt bad when the man sighed knowing he hadn't liked his answer. But he wasn't going to lie to the man to make him happy. "So normal life spans... What do you do when we get old?" he asked.

Alastor shrugged a little. "I don't know, never had a mate who grew old before. Everyone's different, some replace their mates when their old, some kill them to put them out of their misery. Others still hold onto them until their mates pass on. Just depends on the person." Alastor said as he moved around the boy to stand and take the plate. "I'll bring this to the kitchen to be washed." he said, walking toward the door before he stopped just short of walking out. "Thank you." he said quietly.

Lucas nodded when the man stated that he didn't know because a mate had never lived that long but he knew what others of his kind did with their mates. "What kind of person are you?" Lucas questioned. "I'm sorry your mate died." Lucas stated when Alastor moved to leave. "I'm not just sorry because you go stuck with me but because you lost someone you loved." he continued.

Alastor was just about to step out when he heard the boy speak once more about his mate dying. Alastor almost cringed, he could have killed the boy for even mentioning his deceased mate. He turned halfway around to look at Lucas with a rather pained expression as his eyes turned a pale green. Alastor hated talking about his first mate, it was a memory he wished he never had sometimes. Alastor turned back around and continued to the kitchen.

Lucas watched as Alastor stopped at the door. He knew the memory of the mans lover was probably a painful one. He hadn't meant to hurt the man with his words and he felt apologetic about. Getting up he ran after the man. "I didn't mean to upset you."

Alastor placed the plate in the kitchen when he heard the boy follow him and speak once more. Didn't this kid ever shut up? "Leave it alone, Lucas." he instructed rather sternly, though he refrained from smashing every dish within reach. "It happened a long time ago. Now go take a shower or attempt to run away or something..." he said softly, wanting simply for peace and quiet, though with a young man in his home that was probably a pipe dream.

Lucas didn't flinch back as hr was sternly told to leave the subject alone. He could see the hurt in the man and moved forward wrapping his arms around him in a hug. "If you want me to run your going to have to make me." he stated.

Alastor stopped when he felt the boy's embrace, he couldn't believe Lucas was hugging him like this. Just like his first mate. He wasn't entirely sure whether to shove the boy against a wall and give him a reason to run or to just let Lucas continue to hug him. Alastor made a decision and twisted his body a little to grab the back of Lucas' shirt to bring the boy in front of him and in the air. "Ever since I brought you to my house you have been exploring to find an easy escape. Why the sudden change of heart?"
