"Goodnight, Nora..." Yuuka smiled warmly to her friend as she drifted off to sleep. The teacher wasn't far behind. She sat in a rather comfortable chair near the door, and despite her best attempts to stay vigilant, she too was fast asleep within the hour, arms crossed and leaned heavily onto one of the chair's armrests as well as into its back.
---
Samantha was the second to wake, roused by the smell of breakfast and treats, which slowly stirred her from her deep slumber, and elicited a soft groan as her own pain receptors kicked into gear. She teased herself out from under Seijin's covers, first barely peeking over them and staring at the ceiling for a while, before finally sitting up and letting them fall around her waist.
Now fully upright, Samantha stretched as best she could, albeit with a wince from both her newest and oldest wounds, forcing a string of mental curses that would make a sailor blush. She looked around the room, dimly lit by the morning's first light, and quickly spotted Seijin in the kitchen. Leaving the comfort of the teacher's bed was difficult, but Samantha slowly made her way from there to the door frame separating the kitchen with the rest of the dorm. Her voice was slightly hoarse, throat parched, but she managed a small, "Good morning..."

" Ah Samantha," Seijin smiled over her shoulder," There is some food on the table. Its just some simple eggs and toast and some sausage. Ah, the kettle has coffee, and the other one has hot cocoa, whichever you may prefer help yourself." The teacher was washing some dishes as she spoke to Samantha, idly humming to herself. "How do you feel? I did my best with your injuries, but I am afraid it was only so much."
She turned around, leaning her hips on the counter once more; she had been doing that all along to hold her weight up and off the counter. Seijin took her cane from close by and walked over to the table to take a seat. "Speaking of 'so much' ... I will need you to do me a favor." She let Samantha take a seat and hopefully serve herself some food before speaking again. "I will need you to keep an eye on Heidi. Yuuka and I have our suspicions about just how deeply involved she is with Tabitha. Given she is our only lead in this whole big mess that blew up yesterday."
Seijin took the time to serve herself some coffee and prepared it as she continued, "As Yuuka said, we are still dealing with children. My main concern is to stop the Beast without hurting the host, but without harming anyone else. I also want to stop this incident as swift as possible. I am mostly out of battle due to my injury- quite honestly , I am lucky to have kept my leg- and there is a pair of Students I am personally watching over. I will try to keep an eye on Tabitha from a far , and so watching Heidi falls upon you." Her coffee prepared, the teacher took a sip," You seem to be relatively close to her, or the closest at any rate."
"I will warn you to be careful. If she has cards and is working with Tabitha, we have no idea what sort of power we are facing."

"Oh... Thanks..." Samantha tried to clear her throat briefly. "My shoulder is okay I guess... it's really stiff and sore. ...Um, thanks for taking care of me..." She decided to take Seijin's hospitality and helped herself first to the kettle for hot cocoa, filling a mug and setting it at what she chose as her place at the table, then collected a bit of the home cooked breakfast onto a small plate and sat down while Seijin talked. Despite the teacher's claim of it being a "simple" breakfast, it was far grander than what Samantha was used to cooking for herself, and the very sight of it all made her stomach rumble.
Samantha drank down a mouthful of the warm, soothing beverage, which helped to whet her throat. Appetite piqued, she quickly began to dig into her plateful of food. "A favor...?" she mumbled around a bite, chewing while Seijin continued. "Ah... I guess Heidi and Tabitha are best friends or... something... I don't know, I don't know her that well. Oh..." Samantha paused, staring into the distance. "Heidi and I were supposed to study together yesterday, but I ended up sleeping here... Hm, I wonder if she worried... Ah, injury--?!" Samantha nearly jumped up from the table once her teacher pointed out her leg. In the haze of the night prior, she had completely forgotten. With the memories of the night returning, she slowly sunk back into her seat.
"Right... I'll keep an eye on Heidi, no worries... I was kinda planning on doing that anyway. She was acting kinda weird last time I saw her... It feels like it's been a long time since we talked..." She pushed away from her spot at the table, "I should probably leave soon... I'll need to find her and also get back to my studies!"

"Yes, you should. Thank you for everything, Samantha- Ah and If you should need help on your Calculus review sheets, I will be around, just come by, alright?" Seijin smiled to Samantha, "You should try Heidi's room? If not, maybe Tabitha's. I never took for Heidi to be the outgoing, social butterfly, so either or, I am hoping she will be in her room. Should anything arise, here is my number." Kazuko was writing on a small piece of paper after taking a pen from her breast pocket and a sheet from a small memo book. She ripped it out and handed it to Samantha. "My phone is always on my person. If you feel you need me, just give me a call or a text, I pick up right away, alright?"
Nora stumbled into the kitchen, crashing into the frame twice before making it through the door giving a steady stream of curses under her breath. "Ah, Ms. Okashii, you are awake.... Still half asleep?" "No. I can't see s**t." "Eh?" "Sorry, ehm," Noraneko blushed,"I lost my glasses last night when I was fighting that thing. Usually I wear contacts, but those are at home at the present moment." "Ah, now that the sun is up, you may be able to find them outside still!" Seinin smiled encouragingly. She paused as she watched Nora miss the kettle a couple times before finally taking it. Seijin was up, stopping her hand and taking the kettle from the taller girl. She served her some coffee and handed it to her, "Just how bad is your eye sight?" "Can't see past a yard clearly. Sometimes my perception of depth doesn't work, particularly when I don't have my glasses." "How rare.." "Hereditary condition," Noraneko said, "By the way, morning Samantha, Ms. Kazuko."

"Ah... thank you, Seijin..." Samantha reached across the table and took the folded paper from the teacher, and tucked it into her sweater's pocket. She'd enter it into her phone later. "I'll go see if Heidi's in her room... I think she said hers isn't far from mine--" Samantha jumped lightly as Nora "arrived", whirling in her seat to watch her fellow student struggle with first the door frame, then a pot of coffee. She knew better than to laugh... something like that wasn't funny anyway.
"Morning Nora." Samantha mumbled, sipping down the rest of her hot cocoa and shoveling the last few mouthfuls of her food. She wiped her mouth on a napkin and pushed herself from the table. "Thank you for the food, and letting me sleep here... I'll let you all know as soon as I find something, okay?" And with that, she promptly left.
---
The door closing stirred the sleeping teacher. She yawned and slowly pulled herself way from the back of the chair. Sleeping in such a position left her body in a terribly sore state! She stood from the chair and took a moment to stretch out fully, side to side and front to back, and eventually made her way into the kitchen to join Nora and Seijin. A quick peek around told that Samantha had already left... that would explain the closing door.
"Good morning, you both..." Yuuka said somewhat groggily, not really paying attention to what the two were talking about. She went to pour herself a cup of coffee, but noticed that the kettle was missing... Once realizing it was still held by Seijin, Yuuka offered her cup forward with a smile. "Would you mind, Seijin? It would really hit the spot~"
---
By now, Samantha was a few hallways away from the protection and sanctity of Seijin's room. Having just entered the teacher's number into her handset, she pocketed both it and the paper slip once more. She was nearing her own room, but she didn't have any reason to go there right now, despite how much she desperately wanted to say ******** the world and go back to bed.
She walked past her dorm's room and made her way further down the hall, to the room Heidi had mentioned she lived in. There wasn't any reason to hesitate, and no cause for worry. It was just a friend visiting another friend... but why then did it feel like Samantha was being sent to interrogate a criminal? She tried to push that thought aside and briskly knocked on the door.
"Hey, Heidi... It's Sam! You in there? ... Can you come out? ... We need to talk."

Seijin waved off to Samantha as Nora tried to drink some coffee before sitting, albeit with some struggle, to eat something. Soon enough, Yuuka came in, and they both greeted her with a wave and smile. Noraneko busied herself with food, while Seijin served Yuuka a drink. "Good morning, Yuuka, I hoped even you managed to snatch some sleep?"
The pseudo-tengu gathered some food into a plate. Noraneko tried to take her cup, missed and almost knocked it over. Seijin, however, managed to take it before it tipped over and spilled over the table. "Ohgod- Sorry..." the black haired girl sighed, annoyed at herself. "It's okay Noraneko, don't worry, no harm was done," the teacher smiled as assuringly as she could," You should look for your glasses though. Or contacts, which ever." "Yeah. I guess so..." She sullenly poked at her food,"Gonna be hard finding them when I can't see squat."
____ There was some noise behind the door before a slightly groggy voice called," Ah- just a s-second -"
A minute or so later, Heidi opened the door. Unlike the usual pristine outfits she wore, the platinum blonde wore a large baggy zip up jacket and some sort of baggy pajama bottoms. Her hair was in quite some a disarray, the curls mostly gone, and her squinted eyes lacked the required glasses. "Ah... I have a migraine-..." She shied from the light of the hallway, "Would you mind coming in..?"
She moved back from the door immediately, hoping Samantha would follow and close the door behind herself. Her room was in a similar disorder , the table stacked with all sorts of books and notebooks, the computer buzzed to life and the blinds blacking out most of the light. "Sorry for the mess. I've been... studying.... Must have passed out last night amidst Latin roots- Ah, please sit down, do you want something to drink?... Wait, what time is it...?"
She walked by the small couch rubbing her eye , snatching a few books out of the way and sliding them into the shelves. She continued to do this for a bit till the coffee table was more or less clean and she could see Samantha as she sat in her computer desk. "So what is it you needed to talk to me about? You bailed on me last night and all...."

Yuuka chuckled, blushing lightly. "Yes, sleep took me before I knew it... I didn't plan on falling asleep, but I suppose it was for the better. Mh... I hope Samantha will be alright."
"We can look for your glasses this morning!" Yuuka piped in, having been so graciously served her coffee and delicious food. She had sat at a free spot at the table and poked at her food idly, listening to Nora's plight. "They can't have gotten far... if we retrace your steps, then we should be able to find them, and it'll give us another chance to look for any clues leftover by the beast!" She took a bite of sausage, chewed and swallowed, "The sooner we can subdue this person, the faster we can make the school safe again."
---
"Yeah, that's fine..." Samantha obliged, following Heidi inside. It took a moment for her eyes to adjust to the darkness, save the for blaring white light of the computer screen, but once she did, she became witness to the disarray of the student's room. It seemed completely unlike someone like Heidi, always prim and proper and dressed to the nines. Perhaps with the summer underway, she was finally cutting loose?
"No thanks, I already ate and drank just a bit ago. Ah, it's uh..." She took out her phone, pausing briefly to inspect the time. "Eight or so. In the morning, if you couldn't tell." She made sure to note that last part, given how cut off from the rest of the world Heidi's room was. She sat down on Heidi's couch, as offered, and waited patiently for Heidi to put away her things.
"Yeah... sorry about that. Something came up with Kazuko, and... you know, the cards." Samantha picked up a book from the desk, before Heidi had the chance to put it away and began to thumb through it mindlessly. "You probably don't know, but... there was an attack last night. I saw it with my own eyes... It got Seijin pretty bad. Her leg is all messed up... and that freak almost got me and Okashii." She snapped the book closed and replaced it on the coffee table. "You should have seen it! ... Or maybe not... But it was enormous! A big, hairy, beastly... thing, all teeth and claws and fur... it was like something out of a fairy tale, a grim one... It was really scary..."

"That is a good idea Yuuka, while you go and look for Noraneko“s glasses, I think I will stay here and clean out all the blood, or go check on Maria real quick." Seijin was sipping away at the coffee while Nora struggled with her food. "Ayeah... I won't be much help without my glasses or contacts, but I suppose I can try to help look for clues while at it," Okashii said, playing with her fork as she looked from one teacher to the next.
____
"An attack? A Beast? " At first the news seem to go over Heidi' head, but suddenly it seemed to click on her mind, "A-a monster? You and Nora Got away safe right? And.... .... is miss Kazuko okay? Is she hurt?" There was the faintest trace of guilt crudely hidden behind dazed exhaustion.
Heidi reached for the book Samantha gad set down. Her hands shook visibly until they were over the book. She stood and put it away, turning around as she pulled her jacket up higher. "What happened? Do you know where it came from? That..... .... thing, "

"It's up to you", Yuuka shrugged into her own coffee, "We can look for your glasses or go find your contacts first. Oh, and how are your injuries? Do I need to replace your bandages or do you think you'll manage? If we run across the beast again, we'll need you in the best condition you can be."
"Maria...? Ah that's right, your other student... I hope her night fared better. She's the only other fully changed subject we have... mh, perhaps if we study her a bit, we might learn something to use against the beast?"
---
"I dunno... it just suddenly appeared. It was the first anyone's seen it too, I think... Kazuko would have mentioned it when we talked. And her leg is pretty bad... I didn't see the wound really, but there was a lot of blood, and now she's walking with a cane and limping..." Samantha curled up on the couch, hugging her knees, as she retold the happenings of the night prior. "Nora and I got beat up, but we'll live... that thing smashed me into a wall," she said, idly rubbing her shoulder. "Nora smacked it pretty good though, and I got it once in the leg... though I think that it just pissed it off more."
"Did you happen to see it?" Samantha asked, staring to Heidi's back. There was something off about her... "You look kinda shaken... are you okay? You're not mad about me bailing, right? I didn't mean to..."

"i don't mind either or. I am bad at finding things, but if we ate going off campus through where the beast attacked, we may get two birds with one stone," Nora responded. She drank the last of her coffee, as Seijin took the turn to speak. "I recommend you look for clues before anything is moved or hidden. I know it is.difficult, but I trust Yuuka will be able to guide you," The teacher asked of Nora,"Would you mind hanging on?" "Yeah. I can't drive like this anyway," Noraneko replied,"What do you say Yuuka?"
___ "I am sorry to hear about Seijin," Heidi muttered under her breath as Samantha went into details about the last night's events. She slowly turned to her guest, shaking her head as she came to her. "Ah... of... of course not. I understand you were caught in something bad... What... do like think that monster is from? Like... any idea what it is? Or why did it appear....?" He ignored to answer about her well being.

"I suppose Seijin is right... it'd be best to look now before whatever clues might be present get washed away in the rain. As far as combat goes, the thing seemed to back down when I demonstrated my own power. If we're lucky, then it won't think twice about attacking us again."
Yuuka, too, finished her light breakfast and cleaned up her mess, washing the few dishes in the sink. "Now then, let's leave Seijin to her duties and we'll away to perform ours. We need to quell this incident quickly - and find your glasses just as fast!" She held out a hand to Nora, paused, then simply took it. "If you're ready, then we'll leave."
---
"Why? Hell if I know! It just came out of nowhere and attacked us... hell it probably did the same thing to Kazuko. It was crazy... think of those monster movies, or like that really crappy vampire series. Big beefy werewolf-slash-beast-slash-hellhound-slash-who the ******** knows. We're all... well, hunting it I guess. I think Kazuko thinks that there's someone under the monster, like it's a student with cards, but... I'm not sure what to believe."
Samantha reclined into the couch and rubbed at her shoulder. Her rising temper was stressing her body further. "...Sorry, this is probably a lot to take in all at once. And sorry again for missing our study date... I'll make it up to you, I guess. I already ate, but we could go to the cafe if you're hungry...? My treat."

Heidi touched her fingers to her left cheek before consciously moved it away. The girl shook her head and spoke,"So you are not.sure what to believe? So.if she isn't a human then... is it some magical being? Some.monstrous being here just to make your day bad? What, then, do you think she feels? Maybe this thing isn't all bad! You act like it has some.vicious grudge to you. You should.listen to Seijin!"
She moved her.glasses with a blush," I am.just saying, maybe this.monster is a.student. Maybe it is.being pushed to do.these things. like how you have impulses caused by your cards. Maybe... it needs help." The blonde sighed, "I am ... not really hungry.... You should go check on Seijin. I have some.... homework... to do. And I need to finish before Tabitha comes around for a little .... date I guess."

Samantha was taken aback by Heidi's tone. She paused as the girl went on, only to finally mention something about that other girl - Tabitha.
"Look, whether there's a person inside that beast or not, it doesn't really matter. It attacked us, multiple people! We still need to stop it--" She stopped, a realization flashing in her eyes. "...Wait... why did you call it a 'she'?" Eyes fixed on Heidi, Samantha slipped off the couch stood upright. "Do you know something about that monster? And Tabitha... Nora and I saw her just before that freak attacked! That's... That's it, isn't it? Tabitha is the beast, right?!"
Samantha closed the distance between herself and Heidi. "I should have known, only a depraved b***h like her could turn into a bloodthirsty creature like that! You're probably protecting her, aren't you? Do you know that she attacked me?" She quickly pulled up her shirt and sweater halfway, showing off the bandages wrapped around her ribs. "That's why I was at Kazuko's! She was taking care of my injuries! Ones that Tabitha inflicted on me!"

Heidi's face ran twice as pale, she backed up, away from Samantha's accusations," No- I am not protecting her! It-it was an assumption that's all! Tabitha was with me most of the night, really! She walked out only for a bit!" Heidi grew more and more anxious," Stop insulting her. You don't know her!"
Confronted by the more solid evidence, Heidi tugged at her own jacket, feeling the room heat up around her. "Samantha, just let it be. Tabitha has no reason to have anything against you...She isn't the beast. I am sure...."
