(I'm writing this instead of going to work, as there are police with guns at the next apartment and I've been told to stay inside, woooo)

Best: Shiva
Worst: Shanam

...Are you even considering characters past FE5?

Best: Ayra
Worst: Karla.
An awful lot of trouble to go through in order to get a character who doesn't really come with anything to make me use her except to try and get some supports. Hector only route, 31x, requires you to level Batre to get her, and only comes in at level 5 that close to the end. It's like she was thrown in last second. She's not horrible, and maybe if she had come in earlier without making me need Bartre, then she would be a decent unit.

Best: Gonna have to go with Shiva from FE5. He's been the best myrmidon/swordmaster I've ever had in any FE game that I've played. There's been other myrmidon/swordmasters that I do really like too. Zihark, Stefan and Ayra/her kids are a few that come to mind. I have used Mareeta a bit and while I do think she can be pretty good(Especially with that mareeta sword of hers) she kinda comes in little late.

What I like about Shiva is that he comes with Sol skill which can be very great in lots of moments. His stats are insanely good, he'll cap strength, skill, speed, and defense will most likely cap. His magic won't really grow very high, so magic attacks probably will hurt a bit.. Though that could be fixed with the holy water, but he could still use the fire or wind sword just pretty well!

Worst: I haven't actually used Shanam, since for some reason I missed recruiting him by mistake. >.> From what I seen of him, he does come with Bargain which reduces the cost of items in shops. And that's kind of useless in FE5 as you don't need to buy things in shops, you have capture and stealing to get stuff. But I don't think it'd be fair to vote him since I never tried him myself, but I think I'll go with Karla from FE7. Why? Because she requires a specific requirement just to recruit her. And it's like three chapters left until endgame that you get her to join you. Even then once you use her she's actually not even that great, she'll mostly turn out just okay. It's a lot of effort just to get one character.

Rath he's so anti newer FE games it's not even funny. He's all for the old school stuff he probably hasn't played much of anything past FE5.

FE5 is Leaf's favorite game. Though, I'm sure he's played the later games, maybe? -shrugs-

Best: Edward
While he starts at a low level, his growths (especially HP) make him a durable unit in the Dawn Brigade, where you really need them to protect Micaiah. He remains useful if you level him up, even into Part 3. His personal weapon, Caladbolg, isn't too shabby either, though I usually give him Alondite if I chose him for Endgame.

Worst: Karla
I have never even used Karla, but that's only because of the ridiculous things you need to do to recruit her in the first place. She's just not worth the effort, especially since she comes in late-game, and by then, you've probably already got a few good swordfighters.
And if I was going to put any effort into leveling up Bartre, I'd probably end up killing Karla instead of letting her survive that one round of combat. I just wonder why they put her into the game at all.

I guess because of Fir? Probably the only reason I can think of.. sweatdrop

I've liked Barte as a unit. It's pretty easy to survive that one battle if you give him an Iron Rune. It's just that it's having to use him to get Karla becomes tedious. Even Karel has better availability than her. >.>

Best: Although I want to consider Owain due to his stats, the other issue about Owain is that his is based by who his father is. And since it depends which male unit that can be Owain's father, his stats can easily altered. Therefore, I'm going to place my vote to Zihark (FE9). Although his stats and growth is pretty decent, he did help me get through some of the chapters by managing to dodge most of the attack and finishes killing the enemies by activating Astra many times. And although I did fairly with Radiant Dawn with him, his FE9 version is slightly better than the RD version.

Worst: I gotta with what Rath said. Karla came really late into the game and you have very little chapters to level her up. And even though her defense is somewhat okay, her offense is pretty weak compare to other swordsmasters, including Lyn herself. Heck, she was unable to critical kill Bartre when I tried to recruit her and he only had the Bow being equipped without the Iron Rune. >>;

Best: Rutger.

I find the lack of faith in the Rutger disturbing. The guy is CLUTCH in FE6.

Worst: Karla. Forcing you to use Bartre (and costing a promotion item for Bartre on top of that) to join for fractions of chapters left in the game is fail. At least Shanam provides something with Bargain and doesn't even have to be deployed to let us use it before a chapter starts.

I also think Owain and Edward are definitely far from best (the former for joining too late and having a mother that will s**t on his physical potency if you're not grinding, the latter requiring you to build him up and not having great durability for a good long while) although both have the potential to be really strong and want to give honorable mentions for best to Shiva and Ayra.

So we have a surprise winner. We really couldn't agree last week could we? Oh well.

This weeks topic is: Light Magic user

I shouldn't have to explain that this means that they have Light magic as the primary tome magic, but sometimes people don't listen.

Best: Linoan, 5 PCC mofo with mad tanking Rezire skillz who supports Leaf magnificently and Dean. She also doesn't require a scarce Knight Proof to promote, can fight, unlike most future staff bots, and is a rank away from negative staff spam, if I'm allowed to talk about staves in a light magic vote.

Worst: Dierdre, she silences some guy who doesn't even need to be silenced, gives Ethlin her lightsaber and goes away forever after the next chapter. In terms of her actually USING light magic for FIGHTING, lol.

Best: I think I'd have to give it to Linoan for this one. Though, Lucius is also a great light magic user too, great availability for sure. He'll cap out Magic and Resistance. Artur is also quite good too.

But for now, I'm sticking with Linoan. Rezire/ Nosferatu is just an all around handy tome in general. And she supports with Leaf and Dean so that makes her even more useful to have around with you!

Worst: Really it's kind of toss up between Dierdre or Renault here. But I'm gonna have to go with Dierdre in the end. As she really has only one use in the whole entire game and that's to silence the boss, Sandima.(I think that's his name...) And if you still have that staff with you, it can be used against the chapter 2 boss with the sleep staff. She also gives the light sword to Ethlin... But really that's all she's good for, she can't really fight with light magic very well. Dierdre's only usable for like 2 chapters so her availability isn't very good. It's true that Renault is thrown in at the last minute, and getting those supports of his is a pain to do. But he does come with the Fortify staff at least..

Although it's true that Renault does come with a Fortify, but his magic is not as good as other magic users. If you give the Fortify to any magic users such as Serra, Pent, or Erk, they can heal the units a lot more than what Renault can. So I guess you can say that Renault is similar to Dierdre when giving the light sword to Ethlin. sweatdrop

I think we're slowly shifting to staff users, as much as I hate to minimod (sorry Mel!) I tried to base my votes on who was more horrible with light magic, even if I did end up talking about staffs for a third of both characters.

That being said, it is very much so true that central to the beauty of light magic users is their utility to use staffs AND defend themselves. So in many ways, staffs are required to talk about, as that is what light magic users are probably going to end up doing, FE5 especially.

In terms of Renault VS Dierdre: at least he HAS a Fortify staff, access to all the endgame goodies and A's in light magic and staffs. Dierdre is locked to whatever low grade staffs you have gotten hitherto, stuck with the same horrible heavy tome, and on top of it, has to compete with Ethlin, who is like Christ with tits on a horse* and the recently gained Aideen, who is going to stick around for the whole generation.

*Am I even allowed to talk about my mom like that? Like FE4, right? There's been creepier things in that game than me talking like that about my mom.
