They wandered the shop a while longer, but at last Saria could stand it no longer.

"Mama, I'm bored," she sighed just loudly enough for the others to hear as well. "How long are we going to be here?"

"Hush, dear," Alinda shushed her daughter, though she was smiling. "Have patience."

"Probably just for a while longer," Daemon replied with a chuckle.

Now if Long could buy something, that would have been a different matter entirely. The Long would spend longer in studying a weapon and then ask questions. Daemon would know, he had done weapon shopping with Long when they were teenagers. Often he would bring a book and sit in a corner to read.

Saria sighed and looked in Long's direction. She knew they were there at his request, and she just couldn't understand how he could possibly take this much time to look at a bunch of metal things that were designed to hurt people.

Suddenly she made up her mind that since everyone else was bored too (or at least it seemed that way to her), she should probably say something to Long.

She skittered across the shop and sidled up to him, trying to make herself as inconspicuous as possible. Then she looked up at Long, her eyes wide and innocent, hands clasped behind her back.

She wasn't as inconspicuous as she thought she was. It didn't take Long, long to look over his shoulder and see the best impression of a puppy dog he had ever seen.

"Let me guess, you'd like to leave?" he was very familiar with that look.

Saria nodded, her eyes lighting up with pleasure at how quickly Long had guessed her intent.

"There's nothing to look at in here," she told him with a pout. "It's just ways to hurt people, nothing pretty!"

Long chuckled a bit at her pout, it reminded him of when Donovan was a child. Though most who knew his son would find that hard to believe.

"And what sort of pretty things do you like to look at?" he asked.

Saria's eyes lit up and she clapped her hands together excitedly.

"Flowers!" she exclaimed. "There's not very many of them, but they're so pretty and they smell so nice! I don't usually get to see them except when we visit Grandmother and Grandfather because they have flowers in the courtyard, but they don't grow much in other places."

She grasped Long's hand and held it tightly, looking up at him. "Do you like flowers, Long?" she asked eagerly.

"Uhm... I like them well enough? I mean they are pretty," Long replied back a bit bemused.

It wasn't like they gave him allergies but Long wasn't great at keeping plants alive. His wife would never trust him to look after the orchids because he would drown them constantly.

Which, considering the flower, wasn't that difficult.

"I'm just not good at keeping them alive."

Saria blinked at Long. "Well, no one is," she pointed out. "I mean, that's why there's hardly any of them!"

She didn't understand why so few flowers grew here, but she did know that they were quite rare.

"Really? I just thought it was because it's hot and has less water than some other places," Long replied with a c**k of his head.

Though he was aware at her age, she probably didn't realize other places outside of her home were different. To be fair, he didn't know what sort of flowers grew in a desert.

Saria blinked again. "Is that important for flowers?" she asked him curiously, mimicking his head tilt. She added to it by rubbing her forehead, which had creased slightly with confusion.

She was still very young and very ignorant, and this just made it more clear.

"Uhm...."

Long actually had to re-think that, because that is what he had always been told as a child. Of course when he was a child, he was made to grow plants that generally needed a good watering and were harder to kill.

"I think so.... though maybe not since I keep accidentally drowning my wife's orchids. I'm not allowed to look after them anymore."

Saria stared at Long, blinked a few times, then smiled innocently and, rocking back and forth on her heels, asked him in the sweetest voice she could muster, "What are orchids?"

She had a feeling they were plants, since that was what they were talking about, but she wanted more details about them. What did they look like? What did he mean by drowning them? What even was drowning?

"They're flowers, that has... I guess three large petals and then three smaller ones that turn inward," Long tried to explain, though orchids were such a funny shape it was kind of hard to describe them.

He wasn't into explaining drowning though, at least not in people terms.

"When I say drowning a flower it means I gave them too much water, more than what it can handle," he added.

Deciding that was a safe way of explaining it.

"Oh," Saria nodded. "I think I get it. We don't have to worry about that here, I don't think. We just have enough water for people and animals."

She pouted up at him again. "Are we done here now? Because you're not even looking at the stuff anymore."

She was quite eager to get out of the shop and get away from the tools of pain.
