Thanatos knew that look; it was the 'get ready some popcorn, Amphi's going to do something' look. He followed her gaze to a group of students nearby, some of whom he could recognize - namely Shun, and Xiu - as well as a boil that was... Very familiar- Ah, Lou from the beach; he must had gotten himself enrolled into the school some time between then and now.
"Thank you," He grinned at her, showing that yes, he already knew that he was good-looking, but he appreciated her telling him that. He chuckled, raising an eyebrow, even if it could not be seen under his mask, "You're doing it again. Flirting without meaning to... And perhaps it would be best to go for refreshments first, unless you are that eager for a dance."
He wasn't opposed to it.

The flourish was a nice touch. Amarus could not help but wonder what it would be like to fight him, especially if he danced often... that could lead to some wonderful footwork, could it not? Instead of dreaming about that, she tried to stay grounded in the moment. Amarus laughed, her bells jingling."I have a firm if-I-hit-you, you-can-hit-me policy," she told him, first. Her face practically lit up as he suggested she could do her worst. Then she remembered she really shouldn't do her worst, because her worst would turn a pleasant dancing lesson into a full on brawl-- and she had been led to believe that would get her kicked out, so. Really, she'd avoid that.
"Mot. Hmmm. Yeah, sorry, I keep forgetting that part of introductions... I used to introduce myself by picking a fight, so I guess this is an improvement anyway. Amarus, that's my name. Amarus, the Lotus Eater," she said. Turns out she was all too happy to talk to Mot; although Amarus would occasionally only reply in one or two words, once she got rolling it was a stream of happy chatter and then silence. Utter, eerie silence. And those silver eyes, just staring.
Thankfully, Amarus realized she was staring and turned her face away briefly to pretend to inspect the ceiling. Or something. "So, Mot... what kind of dance will you teach me?"

[Deacon is entering.]
Deacon's formal attire really didn't differ from last year. He hadn't worn it since, and although he could have (probably should have) bought something new he just didn't have the motivation to do so. There were enough new students, even plenty of the old ones probably wouldn't even notice a repeat. After all, it was the ghouls' dresses that were always the subject of endless chatter, as far as he had seen. Besides... Without a date, who was he trying to match or impress? There really wasn't a point. With the addition of a golden gilded masque and a formal pair of white gloves, he deemed himself appropriate enough for the night.
He entered with his ears pressed back against the volume of the music, at least until he could let himself adjust to it. Silently, he gazed at the setup and looked absently over those assembled so far from just inside the threshold.

"Oh she wanted out from you dude. Otherwise, she wouldn't have hid behind me, would she?" Vaith grinned, although it was a rather restrained grin.
Vaith muttered from the side of his mouth to Xiu.
"He didn't apologize."
Vaith hoped the hunters got to him first. Lou's loss wouldn't be a big loss to the school after all.

Yes, Thana knew Amphi well. It was a shame though because she'd rather save conflict if she could. As well as that Xiu probably didn't need her coming over and causing more conflict while she was around. Ah...jacksickles. She really really wanted to say things to the vampire boil that were unkind and unfit for proper company. But this was a formal event, and the only thing she truly worried about....was embarrassing Thana with her actions.
She bit her lip as she eyed the group again and sighed. Okay so maybe she couldn't help herself....She did want to talk to Xiu as well. She poked Thana in the chest, completely aware of that smirk.
"I know what your thinking Thana." She blushed, her mouth making a small "o" as she looked around. "Was...Was I?" She looked down and then back up..."Is it a bad thing as long as its with Thana?" She cocked her head, blue eyes masked...well by her mask. "Okay! If you don't mind....Can I stop by Xiu?" She pointed at the Baku....and then proceeded to speed over to the ghoul.
"Xiu!" The mermaid knew Thana wouldn't mind too much...hopefully. Okay she hoped he didn't mind too much. "Xiu you look so pretty!" She enveloped the ghoul in a hug. In the midst of the hug, she glared daggers at Lou.
*_*a
"Xiu..I can see your busy, but do you and your date?" She looked over to the familiar noise reaper, uh..Vaith?..."And Shun and his date want to come get punch? Me and Thana are headed that way??" She looked over her should at Thana...."And then maybe I can steal you for a dance later?"Sexy Cocaine Except Lou :'DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD ALL THE PEOPLE AROUND XIU EXCEPT LOU

Oh. Oh s**t.
Absentmindedly Riyo had been looking around herself, trying to find someone she might have wanted to mingle with for once.
Instead she found Deacon.
Oh boy. OH BOY... things had been so strange the last time she saw him. Should she look the other way and pretend to be someone else? Say something to him? Uhh... Uhhhh!
Well, it's not like she had anything to lose right now...
The ghoul took in a big, deep breath before standing from her little sad corner. No more self pity. It was time to just... be.
"Deacon. How the hell are you?" Riyo asked as she came up behind him and gave the boil a smack on the back. "I heard the trip was... Pretty bad." No use candy coating it.

"I have a policy of not harming a ghoul unless it's a spar." He replied back with a smile. Then again, most ghouls could kick his a** in a fight. But he'd leave that bit out. "Amarus. Lovely name. It's a pleasure." He nodded, and then led her into the dance floor some more. "I'm hoping to teach you a bit of waltzing, and then just a couple of generic moves you can translate into any type of song tempo." He said calmly, taking her hand and moving it to his shoulder. He kept their other hands clasped, taking his free hand and setting it on her waist. "Now, just repeat what I do. I'll go slowly." Mot ushered, stepping lightly to the side, back and to the side again, gently leading the ghoul into a soft paced dance, despite the music in the background. "Not so tough, right?"

"Yes. It is a very dashing look." She turned so her back was to the dragon and wrapped part of it around her dramatically. "I don't think I'm quite suited for the mysterious cloak look, though."
"Do you? I don't imagine you being the kind of person to watch those kinds of things." Then again, Shehk herself wasn't exactly the first person anybody would be expecting to watch human world cartoons. She'd probably named one of them wrong, at the very least. "I like the Jericho Bloodbane look, though. Very...dashing, I'll say." she smiled. "Lucky to sort-of be on your arm tonight."

"Well uh... the names sound like they belong to vampires. The usual look vampires have in some of these things are kinda... uh.. fancy from what we've recalled," Jericho replied with a faint grin. He had no clue she was referring to human world things really. After all, there were a lot of shows that he wasn't as familiar with in general. Hard to have seen everything. "And... thank you. You look pretty lovely yourself tonight," he smiled, "Don't let our... newfound social 'shyness' keep you from getting out there yourself though. We want you to be able to have fun and enjoy this."----- No Lou, Shun had come up with that on the fly. And despite being shorter, he felt he could take down and dissipate the vampiric douche without too much trouble. He wasn't one to try and underestimate others, but he just had a good feeling about this particular one. Letting out a scoff, he turned towards Xiu, shrugging as she tried to get them to stand down. Yes it was prom, but she didn't have to take this sort of s**t either way. "Yarou," he huffed out under his breath. And soon Amphi came on by as well. He glanced between the Mermaid and Mitsu, then nodded. "Perhaps grabbing a drink will not be a bad idea," he started before looking at the two, "Mitsu. This is Amphi. Amphi. Mitsu."He wasn't too used to introducing people to one another. It might have showed.

He hadn't seen Riyo approach, probably because when he did think he saw her, he figured that surely he hadn't and passed her over with his wandering gaze. She disliked dresses, last he checked. Of course, he hadn't seen much of her since she'd all but ripped him a new one after he tried to "help" with her bet with Titus and failed fantastically on more ways than one.
He flinched when she slapped him on the back, startled rather than hurt.
When he heard her voice, and turned to see her, he actually smiled. "Riyo," he said, "you look great." A compliment? An honest-to-jack compliment. He'd managed one correctly.
What smile he gave her faded swiftly with her last statement, a haunted look forming in his expression. He stared at her that way a few moments, before he managed to answer in a quiet tone. Surely no one could overhear them over the music, but one couldn't be too careful. "Then... I'm sure you don't really need to ask how I'm doing."

"If I thought I could keep from harming you accidentally, I would keep a similar policy. However, I feel that I am just bad news," she joked. She wasn't really sure what made a name lovely or not, but hey, she'd take it. Well, sort of take it, more like nod equally and follow him. Following was a new sensation.
In fact, it would probably make dance tutilage fairly difficult, given she was so bad at following. She'd just have to constantly remind herself that she had absolutely no idea what she was doing.
"Waltzing. Tempo. Sure-- you know, maybe I should ask as few dance-related questions as possible," she admitted. The dance wasn't so hard, as long as she didn't listen to the music at all. Okay, well, she was glad she could make her feet intangible enough to move through things, because she was pretty sure she would have stepped on Mot at least five times. Maybe ten. She was watching their feet pretty closely to try to get a grasp on it. Instead of answering clearly, she sort of mumbled some kind of affirmative which basically communicated Too busy trying to watch out feet to answer.
"Mot?" she started, "This music... is this considered good. Because I don't think I like it, and it's making the dancing... difficult."
But, all things said and done, he was leading her rather effectively as far as she was concerned. And she seemed to be picking up some of the movement, at least. It made her smile, as she continued to stare at their feet.

"It's neither good nor bad," He replied, following his date over to the group of students, cane still tucked under an arm. Seeing how trying to greet everyone individually would be silly, he bowed, "Evening. I'm Thanatos, a friend of Amphi's-" Suddenly friend, "Although I believe that I've met some of you before."
He chuckled, looking at Xiu - who seemed to be Amphi's target of a hug - as well as Shun, and Lou.ALL THE PEOPLE AROUND XIU EXCEPT LOU?!?!

She looked... Great? That was an unexpected response, she supposed. "Oh, thanks." a small hue of red graced her cheeks when she noticed he was smiling. Four compliments in one day. This was a new record.
"... Huh?" Now, Riyo had heard that hunters showed up and all the islands were now dust in the wind... But the fact that Riley was gone was still unseen by those red eyes. "W-was it worse than I thought? They just told me the hunters came and destroyed the islands..." What was with his eyes? The boil looked like he'd just seen a ghost...IT DOESN'T NOTIFY ME WHEN YOU SAY 'EVERYONE BUT LOU' OTL

Deacon's frown deepened, and for a moment it almost looked like he was struggling to keep his eyes from watering. There was the slightest shuddering of his voice, which he couldn't manage to swallow back.
"You haven't heard about... Riley?"
He hadn't known the mindflayer well, at least not personally. Still, it was a tragedy nonetheless. Plus, it rose even more concerns for him. Despite not being socially connected, they had shared something. Something that she'd revealed to him on the Islands.
"She's... She's dead, Riyo."

Merope was a fish out of water in a figurative way. The undead boil had received an invitation and had decided to go to it. Unfortunately for him, he didn't bother to read the fine print. Or to find out what a 'masquerade' was exactly. It was simple enough to use his natural ability to shift his fins around to obtain an odd mask of sorts made out of his fins, but it felt so... odd and unusual to not have his ear-fins.
With a subdued glow, Merope slunk towards the fringes of the dance hall in search of materials to construct a last minute mask to wear. Worst comes to worse he could always leave and come back, but it couldn't hurt to do some savaging while he was here. Maybe.
