Not saying anything, Mel simply kept rubbing his back. She didn't know how he felt, she didn't want to lie to herself and think she did. So she merely stayed silent. If he was going to be honest with her, then she wasn't going to push her luck and bother him. Her gaze was easy going though, even if she didn't catch his teasing. Remembering when she had seen him last month and how he bite his hand and kiss hers. Looking at the floor for a moment, she felt like she had taken advantage of her friend. Confused in more ways then one, but she feared asking him right now.
Not knowing if he wanted her to leave completely or stay and ease the tightened muscles in his back. "Would you me to leave you alone?" She said softly in her soothing tone. Not wanting to set him off for his sake. Hoping she wasn't coming off as mad at him. Fearing that he was angry with her if anything.
Right now things where complicated, and in her eyes she thought she was handling this quiet well. Her best friend/ the guy she maybe sorta like turned into a giant wolf that wanted to kill her, and was also possibly going to leave. Shouldn't she be dead, or crying....instead she fixed him something to drink and rubbed his back. Did he even get that hint of how much she cared about him. Maybe she didn't even want him to. It was a lot easier with that small distance between them. It would hurt less in the end, and Mel figured it would be better to make someone happy from afar then never make them happy at all.
Her mind was swimming, at least she wasn't as sick. Just a stuffy nose and she was exhausted. Never one to complain Mel silently continued her role. Trying not to worry about thinks she doubted she would ever know.

Hataru tensed at her words. Despite his human appearance, he growled low in his throat.
"No," he managed after he fought to use his voice. He knew that she was only trying to give him what he wanted, whether that be space or company. But he didn't want to be alone with his thoughts, especially when they began to make him worry that if she left the room she might be trying to phone the authorities.
His drive to survive was in high gear at the moment and he tried his best to sooth it. Hataru wanted to believe that Melody would not do anything against him, but his wolf feared otherwise. She was still an unknown factor, one that unsettled him.
Slowly, his muscles relaxed again as he let the agitation bleed away. The one thought that helped him was that Mel was just as lonely as he was. And that although neither admitted it, he knew she cared about him as he had come to care for her.

Jumping slightly when he growled at her. It caught her by surprise if anything. Pushing him over she stood up and laid next to him. Wrapping her arms around him she stared the the back rest of the couch. "You think I'm going to let them take you away. I don't want you to leave. Your the only friend I have, I don't care if you turn into a wolf that tried to kill me twice now." Her grip on him tightened slightly.
"If you leave then fine...I wouldn't blame you...I'm not going to let anyone force you away. That will never happen." A few tears fell down her cheeks. Trying her best to be brave, honestly she was scare of losing him. "You should know I can't push you away. After every time you pushed me away...I came back didn't I?" Wiping away her tears she felt stupid for crying. This wasn't easy for her, none of this was.
"If you want to push me away then fine, but I'm not going to push you away. I've never done that, I don't plan on starting. People push me away, that's fine. I know what it feels like and I can't dream of doing that to someone." It made her sick to think things like this. That he thought she's call and have him taken away. As if they would believe her...as if she had even thought of that. "I'm taking care of you....isn't the prof enough?"

Hataru tensed again when she stood abruptly only to hold his breath when she laid next to him and held him tight. The wolf within wanted to snap and bite at her, but the man kept it together as she voiced her peace.
Because of the way she held him close, Hataru's face was pressed against her upper chest so that his chin brushed the tops of her breasts. Normally he would just be embarrassed by the liberties of being so close to a girl, but at the moment his thoughts ran a bit more carnal.
With her proximity came the wonderful scent of her being. He took an involuntary sniff and the memory of her made his mouth water. He remembered kissing her, tasting her skin and feeling the softness of her curves. Even the faint tang of her blood that had splattered on the floor.
With this sensory memory came the need to mark her with his teeth. He suddenly wanted her to be his, not just because the wolf had wanted it, but because he Hataru didn't want to be without her. To fight the urge to take a bite of her, he bit down onto his lip instead.
"You really shouldn't be around me," he murmured as he brushed his nose along her collarbone. "I'm dangerous," he added.

"I cut open my hand and gave my self stitches. Not to mention the bruise on the whole side of my body. I think I can coupe." Mel was rather blunt about it, but she was telling the truth. "I know that isn't exactly sane of me, but I don't care. I like having you around okay, I want to have you around."
Blushing slightly as he tickled her neck. "I don't know how this is going to work, but I'm willing to try and find away." She doubted he was even listening, she could hear it in his voice. Moving she pressed him down on the couch hovering above him once more. "I'm serious okay. I'm going to get hurt in some way. Can't we at least try to be happy before that happens. I'm not saying we have to grow old together, I'm fine just being friends....I can't just drop this and forget everything.....you're to important to me."
Blushing heavily as she her tone softened. Trying her best to get her point across before she lost his attention. Her shoulders relaxed and she just stared down at him. Not needing an response of any sort, she just wanted his reaction. Mel didn't do the whole dramatic I love yous, she doubted she was truly in love with him. He was important to her, more important then any boy had even been.

Hataru stopped and looked her in the eye, his body posed mid motion. His eyes shone with approval at her convictions, while his voice stayed low and serious.
"If that's the worst of it, you got off lucky," he said. When she moved away, he wanted to follow if only to continue smelling her scent and fighting the urge to smother her. It was a sickening sensation, this dual nature that was so in conflict with itself. Wanting to ravage her, in more ways than one. And he feared that she wasn't getting the message, that maybe she didn't really comprehend what was happening to him. Maybe if she did she might finally realize how her best interests lay in getting as far as possible from him.
"I want you," he growled. "I want you, but not in any way I should. I want to make love to you, but I also want to feed. This thing I become is like a voice in my head. It keeps telling me to taste what's just beneath. It promises that it will be sweet and rapturous. But I know that if I do, I will only be killing you. It is a circle of temptation and need and I can't control myself when it takes hold." He thought about his words, trying to convey something that he had never tried to tell anyone.
"So if you want to be here," he said, wrapping his hands around her waist and bringing her closer. "Then fight me every step of the way. Show me that you are not some weak prey so that I may keep myself in check. Make yourself be a presence that cannot be snuffed out by the wolf."

"I won't let that happen. I don't care if I have to do this one a month, week, day, for the rest of my life. I'm not going to let you kill me okay." It was a statement as he pulled her close. Pulling away she sat on top of him again. "You so much as try then I get to punch your teeth out." A sick smile graced her lips, the scary part..she wasn't joking. Putting her hand on his neck she leaned so her forehead was on his. "The last boy that did something I didn't like had his arm broken. Your going to be a little more difficult, but I'm more then read to fight you." Smiling sweetly she pecked him on the lips before sitting up again.
"I'm not some innocent little farm girl like you think I am." With that she gently placed her leg between his, mostly to prove her point. Moving her lips across his neck, but never actually making contact. Her hands had moved to pin his firmly so the cushions. "Anyway, who needs a normal relationship. I think I'll appreciate this one more....anyway it'll be more fun fighting you." Her smirk could be heard in her voice. Having whispered it into his ear she laughed softly before sitting back up on his waist.
"Now what where you saying about me being weak." Still pinning him down she had to use her teeth to pull his shirt up. "Because I don't think weak gals do this sort of thing." With that she placed soft kisses on his stomach, never fully on kissing his skin. Mel was trying to show she was in control. She wasn't just going to give him everything, and in some sick way she enjoyed teasing him like this.

Letting out an audible sigh, he nodded his head in acknowledgment. Those were the words he needed to hear. I won't let you kill me. For that was exactly what he always feared. It was why he was on the run, far from any large population. He knew he what he was capable of and knew that most people would just run in fear. To know that there was someone who would stand and face him was reassuring.
A surprised burst of laughter escaped him when she ghosted over his stomach. Just like his wild cousins, Hataru recognized this power play. Giving her access to his tender underside was symbolic for saying she was dominant to him. Since he wasn't, he surged up and grabbed her hands with both his with surprising speed. The motion made her face rise up to level with his, where he nipped at her nose. He hadn't broken the skin, but the motion was meant as a playful warning.
"Be careful not to bite off more than you can chew," he growled. His mind was quiet for the first time since he woke up. Him and the wolf were not fighting, both eager to continue this playful banter.

"Never." A small smirk graced her lips as she spoke. Pulling away she moved to sit up. Roughly pulling her arms away she gripped his chin. Running her thumb over his bottom lip. "What big teeth you have...." Chuckling she placed a quick kiss on his lips. "So, this explains why you bit your hand last month...and why you pushed me away....why the horse threw us off..." Looking at him her eyebrow raised. "This explains a hell of things." Still she was trying to figure so many things out.
"Do you feel this way about everyone? You want to love them and kill them...or am I just different?" Letting her fingers dance across his stomach again. "You came here so if you kill someone it wouldn't hurt you...I screwed that up for you...home come you haven't just come in here while I've been asleep, or even gotten me drunk and just slept with me then kill me...Why have you kept me around...you could have ignored me...you didn't have to put baskets on my porch every morning. You didn't have to come to the firework show with me..." Once again she was holding him down with her hand holding his neck down.
"I'm not a toy you can play with, I'm not going to let anyone screw with me. From now on you are upfront with me or you can get the hell out. My mom died of a broken heart, I'd rather you kill me before I go through that." Her tone was dark to get her point across. There was a time and place for having fun, but she had to be upfront about this to. Mel had been honest with him from the get go. Her intentions had been obvious that first morning she came to his house to give him cookies.
"You got that?" Mel hoped she wasn't coming off as hateful. In fact she did care, she just didn't like being lied to. Not that he had lied to her, but he wasn't honest with her. She needed to know the truth now, before she really did get in to deep. "If I'm going to fight you, then I need a reason to fight for."

Hataru let her pull away, even let her take a more firm hold of him. If he truly wanted to he could use his strength to wrench free. But that would mean he would have to leave and Hataru really really really didn't want to leave.
He couldn't help smiling as she pieced together his odd behavior. To someone who knew what to look for, his actions were so obvious.
"You are the only one," he replied softly, as if realizing it for the first time. "I've never had this happen before. Mostly my beast goes for a run and finds some animal to hunt and eat. I've never been in close quarters with a person before now. And when I was at home with my family, I always made plans to stay at a friends place then run off for the night unnoticed."
His dark eyes lightened just a shade as they darted to her fingers on his stomach. He nodded when she made her claims about his motives for moving to the country. But when she asked why he continued to make contact with her followed by her scenarios of his usery, he couldn't help but growl. His lip curled as he sneered at the thought.
"I may be cursed, but I'm still human." He couldn't bring himself to even entertain the ideas she was suggesting. "I was raised better than that," he added as if that mattered. For emphasis he raised his head slightly, forcing her to cut off his air slightly. He was offended that she would even think he was capable of such things.
He relaxed as she finished making her point. Despite her attempts to sound harsh and serious, he could tell by her body language that what happened to her mother still pained her. Hataru didn't want to cause her heartache if he could help it.
"Understood," he stated simply.

A small smile came across Mel's lips. Hanging her head she laughed for a moment. "That's the best answer I've ever got." Laughing a minute longer she let go of his neck and sat back in the floor. "Usually when I say something like that I get 'baby I'd never do that,'...You know s**t like that..." Looking straight ahead again she was still smiling. In some sick way she felt special. Taking a minute to think before laying on the floor looking up at him.
"Why me though...why am I so 'special'....I'm just a farm girl..." Now that she was decently sure he was going to hurt her emotionally. "So like I'm a meal and a .....a what exactly friend?" This subject was already a touchy one, but with this relationship it was even worse. Sighing she thought she deserved at least a few answers. After all she want to be with him anyway she could...he wanted her around in some way she knew that. Mel sighed and ruffled her hair. Feeling all mixed up she knew all this stuff about him, and she had told him a lot. Still she feared he thought he couldn't trust her.
"Melody....my real name is Melody...if you didn't figure it out...only my mom called me that....because my 'father' was a musician apparently...he broke up with her before she new she was pregnant with me....so there it's not much of a secret, but it's all I have.." It wasn't much but it was her only big secret. She knew his, he should have at least something on her. Wishing she had something better to tell him, but she didn't. Maybe she really was an innocent farm girl. "My birthday is the 27th which is... "Looking at the clock seeing it was past midnight. "....tomorrow." Some color drained from her face, she hadn't realized that much time had past. Shaking her head she closed her eyes. Mel was just trying to make this work, it made sense to her. She just wanted him to trust her, she wanted to trust him. It wasn't perfect, but really it was all she had.
Sure if she wanted she could go out find a boy date him for a few months then get married, but would she be happy? That was the option for her until Hataru moved here. "Just so you know....I'm not using you either...I don't care if he have a romantic relationship, or if we just be friends. I just...I just want to be something to you. I know I am...I just don't know what..." Having made a full circle in her thoughts she ruffled her hair and let out a frustrated noise. "To much information to process with as much sleep and excitement I've had these past few days." With that she laid on her back staring at the ceiling. "Lets see....last time I came at night and you where asleep...I checked the animals and they had been tended to...so let me guess your not tired are you? Not really sure on this..."

"I've never been one to mince words," Hataru retorted. "In fact, I think you are one of the few people I actually speak to."
He thought about all the people that came and went, even most of the people in this small community. They all seemed too engrossed in their own goings on to worry about being genuinely sincere in their inquiries of others. Like getting the generic, 'I'm fine,' when someone asks, 'how you doin?' So he understood Mel's appreciation for an honest answer to her questions.
As Melody sat back on the floor, Hataru shifted onto his side so he could keep her in his line of sight. With eyes flecked in gold, he processed her question.
"Why you?" he said slowly. "Why not you? Do you think that you have to be tall, slender, big chested, full lipped, and made up to hide any existing flaws, just to be desirable?" He closed his eyes and imagined the popular images of woman in modern culture. To him they were shallow, all the more so because of their attempts at perfection.
Listening to her speak about herself made Hataru relax more. It was endearing to hear these privy details about her. It was an attempt to show trust, though he was already convinced.
"We'll have to do something special. . . for your birthday," he murmured as her voice soothed him in a light doze. It wasn't that she was boring him to sleep, just that his body was weak from shifting. Like an adrenaline crash, he felt positively drained. Now that he knew she wasn't about to do something drastic, he was able to let his mind calm. His eyes drifted back to their darkened hue.

Smiling softly she sat up and ruffled his hair. "I'm going to get some blankets from the closet." Speaking softly she stood up and headed to the closet. Taking out a stack of blankets and pillows. Coming back she turned off the lights before pulling a blanket over Hataru. Kissing his forehead before pulling back. Throwing a pillow and a blanket on the floor. Looking at him for a moment before laying down.
"Your the best present I could ask for....fur and all I suppose..." Laying on the blanket she pull one over her. Even though she had a bed, she didn't feel like leaving him alone. The fire had long since burnt out, this wind was slowly dieing down, as well as rain and thunder. Curling up on the floor she closed her eyes. When morning came he would leave, maybe even going back to how things had been. The thought wasn't scary, having learned he'd come around when he wanted to. Still deep down she was partly scared he would leave forever. Then what was she to do. He could of gotten up at any point and left, but he hadn't yet. For that she was thankful, and she was holding onto every moment, just incase she woke up and he was gone.

His sleep was light and fitful. Every time he closed his eyes he saw through the wolf's eyes the night before. He watched as the beast made a mess of the place. How it tore through the bathroom and roamed the house in search of something to kill. Hataru had thought that his beast thought of Mel as a possible mate and didn't want to kill her. That feeling must have been dampened after she tricked him into the basement kept him captive.
After a few hours passed and he knew he wasn't getting any real rest with all these bombardments from his inner beast, Hataru silently rose from the couch. It only had a few hours left of being able to to be a presence in his head til next month, so he knew it was taking advantage of it.
He stood there a moment, looking down over Mel as she slept. Part of him wanted to just hunker down and snuggled up with her. Another part wanted to break her and be done with the nuisance. He shook his head in disgust. Turning away, he wandered back to the bathroom. It was then that he realized how dirty he was. After a change he was usually covered in whatever the wolf had gotten into. In this case, dried blood, sweat and bits of wood. The splinters that had been harmlessly caught in fur now grated and stuck in skin.
"Damn," he growled as he started to strip. The bathroom was still shabbier than the first time he saw it, but since he was the cause of its disarray, he couldn't say anything about it.
After a few minutes of trying to figure out how to get the thick winter clothes off his body without ripping them, he turned on the water and stepped into the shower. The steaming hot water felt wondrous. He groaned in pleasure under the spray.

Waking up at the sound of the shower, Mel groggily sat up. Why had she slept on the floor...she knew why, but refused to admit it. Pulling her knees close and resting her head on them. Sure Mel was use to getting up at the crack of dawn so she could work in the fields, but she usually went to bed early. It was still raining, but she was sure the storm for the most part was over. Getting up she put a pot of coffee on.
As much as she hated going to the cellar now, she headed down their once more. Properly searching through the cloths she found Hataru some more seasonal cloths. Heading up the stairs she knocked on the door. Waiting a moment, she called through the door. "I'm setting you some cloths outside the door for when you get out." With that she sat them on the chair the wolf has destroyed. Heading back to the living room she started folding blankets back. Once that was done she fell on the couch.
Her head was swimming, not believing she had actually told him her real name. Her mother...her mother was the last person to call her that. Honestly she wasn't sure Hataru had ever called her by her name. It wasn't like they spent loads of time together, and that wasn't going to change soon anyway. Melody, such a lovely name, given to her by a man that didn't know she existed. Having long accepted she would never meet this man, it no longer bothered her. Still that name did, as far as she knew her 'father' had a legit child. A real daughter and named her Melody, maybe even called her Mel. Deep in her heart she wished that could be her, but it was never to be.
Turning over so she could stare at the back of the couch. Wishing she could explain to him how important the name was to her. She just didn't think he'd understand, or care for that matter. Closing her eyes she continued to lay there. The morning was coming, and she would have to deal with that storm and what it had done to her crops. That thought didn't stick with her long, all she could think about was the boy in her house. How she felt about him, and all these other stupid emotions. He made her feel special, he made her feel important...like she wasn't just another face in this small town.
Slowly the thoughts melted away and she entered another dreamless slumber. Unlike the last time the beast chased her, she didn't fear closing her eyes. As long as she looked and acted like she could fight she was good. More scared what would happen to her next spring, if he was still around, and all the animals entered their mating seasons and what not. The idea made her laugh as she fell asleep.
