Even Salem did not realize how important Nona had unknowingly been in his life, and doubtfully words could even describe it if he did. In his youth he had seen a kindred spirits of sorts in her, as she seemed to be isolated by the world as he felt he was. Though as young as he was he could never identify the differences of circumstances and strengths, however she never seemed as wounded as he felt. As when she was alone, she often had her guitar and rarely ever seemed to do much but smile when she was playing it. And if she could manage being alone so much, why couldn't he?

And here he was, in the present, in a very unexpected and perhaps regrettable reunion of sorts with the girl he seemed to have looked up to in childhood. So, when she spoke of another Garden instead of Timber, Salem shook his head a little, looking away from her with a minor scoff. He couldn't tell if this was just a pang of disappointment, anger or resentment for not being remembered. Though, whatever malicious emotions he could of harbored were relieved by the own admittance that he hadn't immediately recognized her.

"No... Timber..." He replied, whatever other words he had planned to say cut off as the doors opened to reveal a platinum haired individual, turning out to be his dear sister rushing through. Thankfully, even though she apparently had gripes with him getting into trouble, she was kind enough to assist in Nona's efforts to keep him upright. "Maybe next time... We'll have that dance..." He said to Nona, a bit of a smirk appearing on his face as he looked up at her, preferring not to acknowledge her remark about not having children.

Before the ever charming, and it seemed suffering, Salem could muster up any courage to ask Nona anything further, the mildly late comer of Kalay appeared. Welp, what moment they had alone was officially nullified now with these two, well three on the scene, especially with Kalay's charming advice. "You think so too, little guy?" He said towards Carbuncle, thinking him nodding in agreement with Kalay's tactics. It was sound enough for Salem to give the Guardian Force a little likability, even if he was still prejudiced towards them.

Opening he mouth once more, Salem was going to speak to Nona again, but this time only sighed and closed his eyes for a moment. Feeling far more tired then he had ten minutes ago, pretty much deciding after he played his due it was time for him to retire for the night. And honestly what romantic approaches he had left up his sleeve to charm the girl were still put off by his most recent injury, and the last thing he wanted was anything driven through pity for his physical circumstance.

Lisanna did not see the funny side to Nona’s comment about Salem not being able to have children and in fact gave the girl a slightly cold look for it. This was unusual behaviour for Lis, in regards to the fact she was known for always being so friendly and laid back. Occasions where she was seen to be angry were few and far between. She glanced at Salem as he spoke about possibly having a dance with Nona and gave the girl another cold look. ”I think perhaps Ms Winchester has done enough tonight.” She said, her tone icey. It was meant to come across as Lisanna politely saying she didn’t think Nona would want to dance anymore this evening, but her tone also showed it to suggest she held Nona at least partly responsible for what had happened to Salem. She flicked a glance at Kalay whom had arrived, clearly as relaxed as he always was. ”Well it’s not too late. And if Salem doesn’t, I might.” She said in reply to his tip about going for the eyes. It was a mild exaggeration…Lis wouldn’t do anything that vicious. She definitely intended to confront Riyel though.

”It’s always the quiet ones…” She muttered, sighing. ”Mmh…you should probably sit down for a moment.” Lisanna shifted, pulling Salem’s arm over her shoulder so she was supporting him more and led him over to one of the various chairs at the side of the corridor, assuming Nona would either help or release him. Once there she gently lowered him onto a chair and stepped back. If he wanted to go straight back to the ball she wouldn’t stop him, of course. She figured it would probably be better for him to re-enter once he could at least stand by himself though, and not be draped over Nona’s shoulder. That would certainly attract some stares. In the meantime… ”I will be right back.” Lis said, giving Salem a reassuring smile and promptly turning and heading to the Headmaster’s office. Wasting no time she knocked on the door and opened it, stepping inside. ”Please excuse me for interrupting, sir.” She nodded to Sou Ho and took a few steps inside the office, closing the door behind her and turning to look at Riyel. ”I would like to know why Mr Vicaria felt the need to viciously assault my brother.” The girl folded her arms and waited for an explanation. Hopefully one that wouldn’t make her angry.

Kalay couldn't say he was happy to walk up on Lisanna saying something coldly to Nona, but it couldn't be helped considering the situation. Kalay was more curious to see how Salem was holding up, which appeared to be... less than stellar. Salem's response to Kalay's comment, though directed at Carbuncle, got the Carbuncle to tilt it's head curiously. It was trying to figure out just what Salem thought he was agreeing with. Lisanna's response to Kalay got a response from Carbuncle who seemed to look up at her with a trouble look. Carbuncle and Kalay exchanged a glance before both looking at Lisanna. "She's going to do something drastic." Carbuncle warned Kalay, whom nodded in thought, watching as she went to help Salem sit down. Kalay remained where he was standing, watching her go with his hands in his pockets before glancing at the door that Nona and Salem had come from. The headmasters office? Kalay nodded in thought watching as Lisanna finished helping Salem and said she had something to do.

"Lis..." Kalay started, but she was already heading to the door. With a sigh, rubbing his head, Kalay started after her, giving Nona a wave. His nice relaxed evening was turning into something stressful, which he was not exactly happy about. 'This is why I don't like going to things like this.' Kalay thought with some bitterness to Carbuncle, whom he swore sighed as the pair walked after Lisanna. Lisanna didn't even bother to notice that Kalay and Carbuncle had followed and closed the door behind her, getting Kalay to sigh as he stopped at the door. This was getting out of hand. Why couldn't everyone just enjoy a nice, peaceful evening of dancing and fun? "Maybe because you're SeeD and all you're used to is fighting." Carbuncle teased, getting a glancing from Kalay as he opened the door to hear the end of Lisanna's words, specifically the "Assault my Brother" portion. He could piece the rest from there.

"Sorry for this, Sou-ho. She's a little upset. Nice Ball, by the way. Very formal." Given Kalay seemed sincere about that, hopefully Sou-ho didn't take it as him insulting the ball. Carbuncle, being Carbuncle, followed after Lis, making sure to sit directly on her feet. It was as much and attention thing as a precaution to make sure she didn't fly off the handle. It seemed unlikely, but Carbuncle was taking absolutely no chances of Lisanna getting herself into trouble. At least more so than she might have already by bursting into the room as she had. Then again, Kalay might also be in trouble for that, but that seemed rather unimportant to Kalay. Kalay gently closed the door behind him before moving a few steps to the side and leaning against the wall, relaxed. He actually wasn't 100% sure what he hoped to obtain from being there, though perhaps it was less for him and more for Carbuncle whom seemed very intent on sitting on Lis's feet to make it troublesome to walk.

After a brief discussion with Sophia about the dance, there being some unease from Ellale about how Sophia had been watching her and Tae, the group finally parted, Tae and Ellale making their way to a place for Ellale to sit down. As expected, Tae wasn't clueless to Ellale's discomfort, using her for support every so often so as to not fall over from the various pains she felt. She wanted to be here though, and being hurt still wasn't going to stop her. Due to this, during their rest, Ellale had kept her eyes on the dancers, taking in the details of how they moved. She was always impressed with how some young woman could move so fluently in high heels, taking the moment to look down at her own feet, taking notice of the complete lack of a heel. Perhaps if she'd worn heels of some kind she'd be about Tae's height, whom was taller than her, but it wasn't so bad. Ellale was rather used to being kind of short compared to everyone. So this was nothing new, and something she was rather comfortable with.

Eventually Ellale managed to pick out her brother, seeing him enter with Lisanna before going off to the side and chatting with her. Ellale saw Carbuncle milling about, avoiding people but seeming to enjoy the general feeling of the ball. It was so cheery that it made her feel warm. Finally, after feeling like she'd rested enough, Ellale turned her attention to her partner, giving her a smile. "Tae, I want to dance. Would you go dance with me?" She asked, her smile soft. She knew Tae would probably be worried for her given the previous actions of just moving around a lot exhausting her, but she was okay now after a rest, and one dance or two wouldn't hurt her, she figured. To prove that she would be fine, Ellale gently got up to her feet, holding her hands down to Tae to help her up as well. As she stood there, she seemed tense for a moment before relaxing, probably a sign of a stab of pain at the movement, but she didn't seem to falter at all because of it. Instead, she seemed far too excited to hesitate.

"We came to dance after all, so why not? I promise if it hurts too much I'll stop." Ellale said, aiming to ease any worries that Tae might have about Ellale pushing herself too hard. Her yellow eyes met Tae's red with sincerity. It was clear she really just wanted to dance with Tae, and that being sore and a little hurt wasn't going to dampen her mood of being here with the only person she could want to be at the ball with. This was... kind of like a dream for her. It wasn't like she'd ever thought she'd become a SeeD, and it certainly wasn't like she ever thought Tae would return her feelings in the slightest, so why couldn't it be like a dream?

Sou-Ho wasn't sure if he was feeling surprised, or had, perhaps, expected that something like this might happen. When the knock first came Sou-Ho called out, permitting entry into the room, having expected that Nona had managed to gather everyone as he had requested sooner than he had anticipated. But when he saw Lisanna's face, and when she closed the door behind her as she entered, she didn't even need to announce her reasons for Sou-Ho to guess why she was there. As such, the moment he had worked out why, and confirmed her suspicions with her questioning, Sou-Ho adopted an Olympic level poker face. His expression had been stern before, perhaps even harsh as he reprimanded Riyel for his actions, but now it was completely devoid of emotion as he stared up at Lisanna from across the room.

The recommendation aside, there had been a second reason why Sou-Ho had commissioned for Salem Everett to come to Winhill, and why he had been willing to pay as much as he did. The moment Sou-Ho heard Salem's last name he felt it was too great a coincidence to be just chance, and when he later managed to find an image of the musician, as well as gather information on the background of the artist, Sou-Ho had been absolutely sure that the there was a connection between Salem and Lisanna Everett. The only question then was how much Salem knew. Sou-Ho had hoped to keep Salem's presence a surprise for Lisanna until he was announced, by name, to perform. But it seemed that fate had a different weave in mind for this evening.

"I am afraid that I will have to refrain from answering that question, Ms. Everett. This matter is strictly between Riyel Vicaria, Salem Everett, and Nona Winchester, and I believe that it would be... inappropriate to reveal the information regarding this to an unrelated persons." It was about this time that Kalay entered the room, and Sou-Ho's face soured for a moment before changing back, taking advantage of his address to Lisanna as an excuse to not respond to the green-haired excuse of an instructor. "As I recall, neither Riyel nor Nona were under your charge, either for the mission in Aurel or as cadets while studying here at the Garden." He did not mention Salem, although he assumed that Lisanna would if she continued to press this. "I can assure you that this situation has been dealt with, and that Riyel shall atone for his actions tonight at another date." This Sou-Ho said as much to Riyel as he did Lisanna, turning his gaze back to the young operative once more as he spoke of atonement.

In truth, Sou-Ho was not entirely sure that he would go through with enforcing his words. There were more pressing matters at hand, and if Riyel decided to accompany them on the mission tomorrow morning, after Sou-Ho had revealed the details of it to the group, Sou-Ho would consider that itself more than enough to atone for his actions. "I am glad that the two of you are here, however. There is a matter I wished to discuss with you. A private matter." With this, he turned to Riyel once more. "Mr. Vicaria I will need you to step outside into the hallway for a moment. If Nona or any of the others I have requested to gather here should arrive tell them to wait patiently for us outside to finish our discussion, and when we are done I shall call them in."

Dismissing Riyel, Sou-Ho waited until the door was shut before standing up, walking around the desk and locking the door. Once he was sure that the doors would not open, and no one on the outside would attempt to enter, or accidentally do so should Riyel fail at his instructions, he cast Silence upon the doors. An unconventional use of the spell, Sou-Ho had discovered long ago that by doing so he was capable of preventing sound from passing through if he cast it on doors or windows. Although it didn't have a lot of applications, it was practical for keeping people from listening in or accidentally hearing things they were not meant to hear. And this matter was not something he even wanted to take a remote chance of being overheard,

Returning to his desk, Sou-Ho carefully lowered himself into the headmaster's chair once more, if only so not to reveal just how exhausted he really was. "Please, seat." Sou-Ho said, being a lot more formal now than usual. "I have a lot to say, and you will want to be sitting when I reveal this..." Folding his hands once more, and leaning forward with his elbows propped on the desk, Sou-Ho proceeded to speak, sharing with the two the details for what lay ahead, and what had been requested of him.

"Ah, would you happen to be Master Durentis?" Turning around, Varitas would have found himself facing Kelsier Nebulous, headmaster of Winhill Garden. Neatly combed back, his hair was white with age and untold experiences, and the deep lines beneath the eyes of the man who stood before Varitas spoke a great deal. Perhaps as much as the eyes that they accented, his icy stare silent but intense as he scrutinized Varitas. His stance firm and commanding, the headmaster cradled his cane in much the same manner one might their sword, though this seemed to be much more of an unconscious habit than a deliberate act. Even there in the ball, the older man seemed to give no openings to his person, as if he expected that as any moment he would have to snap into action.

Varitas might have been able to recognize these traits, as well as the striking similarities between Kelsier and Sou-Ho, but in his present state it seemed unlikely that he would make any such connections. "Forgive me for not coming to find you sooner. Had I known you had arrived, I would have sought you out immediately. Shall we take this somewhere a little less crowded?" The headmaster asked, noting the signs of anxiety on Varitas's person. No doubt the young man was not used to such a social convention such as this, or any for that matter, and no doubt as a PoW in a camp. It was probably in everyone's best interest if he was moved away from the location.

Leading Varitas away, as far away from any others as possible without leaving the ballroom just yet, the Headmaster turned and faced Varitas, examining him for a moment before he addressed the young man. "I take it that you understand why you are here, yes?" The headmaster asked, deciding not to beat around the bush with this one. A glance alone was enough to tell him that he was not dealing with a child who needed to be walked through this, and as such Kelsier was about about to treat him as such.

"You assist us with a mission that has been given to us, and I promise you that Winhill Garden will help you clear out the infestation in Centra and aid you in returning your lands to your people. I cannot promise that you will receive your aid immediately. As it is, many of our operatives are away with their own missions and tasks, but in the foreseeable future, when things have died down and the Garden is in the position to do so, I swear by my position as Headmaster to Winhill Garden, and my honor as a soldier, that Centra will belong to humans once again."

How much Varitas would believe and would doubt the Headmaster wasn't certain. The young man didn't have any reason to suspect doubt, although perhaps the careful way the Headmaster worded his sentencing might make him suspicious. "You are in no way obligated to assist us, and there is nothing stopping you from walking out now and returning to fight your endless war with the monsters." A war that had only one possible outcome for Varitas. "But if you agree to help, and can ensure that both my grandson and my pupils return here safely I will be forever in your gratitude." It was with this that the headmaster closed his eyes and bowed deeply to Varitas, making a clear and sincere request.

Tae glanced up at Sophia with a smile. Sophia cleaned up rather well but that was to be expected. She looked good even when she hadn’t done anything. It was a natural beauty that Tae at times envied. Just thinking about it Sophia could probably pull off having bedhead. However, the look in her eyes when she’d glanced down at the linked fingers of Ellale and her made the smile drop slightly. Was the other girl appalled at what was growing between her and Ellale? Perhaps the gesture was more intimate and Sophia felt a bit awkward at it. No matter what it was that had drawn that look in the other girls eyes Tae kept a friendly smile on her face after all Sophia was someone that Tae had looked up to and respected for whatever reason. Their small talk around the snack and food tables ended when Lloyd had come and almost literally swept Sophia off her feet and onto the dance floor.

Moving away from the food and drinks to find a spot so Ellale could rest she’d started to feed herself. She’d been starving having not eaten a real meal in a few days. However, she didn’t go to the extreme like Eammon had earlier. If she’d been there to see that she’d might have broken out into a fit of laughter.

Her eyes danced across the ball room, in the end they always came to rest on Ellale. It was nice sitting there eating and resting while listening to the music. Her eyes caught doors that lead out onto a balcony. Perhaps the two could later go out and enjoy the evening air. Maybe even gaze at the stars. It had been a while since she’d taken the time to gaze at the stars. It might have been back when she was a child. Something fuzzy tried to push through to the surface but it was interrupted by a soft voice. Blinking back the slight daze she glanced over to her right.

A dance? Well, they had indeed come here to dance and enjoy what the party had been set up for but worry crept into her eyes. She knew that Ellale was still in pain and she didn’t want her pushing herself to collapsing on the floor. Tae didn’t think she was in any shape to carry the young girl if that had happened but she didn’t think she’d allow anyone else to either, but maybe her brother.

She opened her mouth to respond when Ellale stood up to prove that she was okay after resting for a moment. Tae paused staring up at her watching the other girls body tense before finally relaxing. Though that didn’t seem to hinder the girls stance as she lowered her hands for Tae to take. Her eyes flicked about watching as Nona, Riyal, and Salem were being escorted out of the ball by Sou-Ho to soon be followed out by Lis and Kalay. As her eyes slowly moved back to Ellale she spotted a fishy figure standing near the doors looking out of place and slightly lost.

“You promise we’ll come back to sit if you hurt too much?” Tae spoke still uncertainty lacing her words. No matter she didn’t really wait for an answer before taking those hands and standing up a small smile upon her lips. “I must confess I’m not the best dance partner but I’ll do my best not to step on you.” Her smile grew as the two started to walk onto the dance floor, Tae letting her body sway to the music a little once they found a spot near where Sophia and Lloyd had been dance at not moments before the fight had broken up.

Riyel "The Quiet One" Vicaria

Now I think I understand
How this world can overcome a man
Like a friend we saw it through
In the end I gave my life for you
Gave you all I had to give
Found a place for me to rest my head
While I may be hard to find
Heard there's peace just on the other side

Not that I could or that I would
Let it burn under my skin, let it burn

{Current Theme Song: Dear God- Avenged Sevenfold}

This went from worse to even more worse...to how he didn't desire to be living anymore. After being stopped by Nona, Riyel had been more or less dragged into a room...alone...with the devil...Sou-Ho. The instructor that still scared the unholy hell out of him with his frigid glares...that were now specifically targeting Riyel. As soon as Nona and...Salem...were out of the room, the door closing behind them, Sou-Ho immediately asked for Riyel to give a highly detailed report on the events that occurred. So he had spat out what had occurred, the memories rushing back into the forefront of his mind to be made more clearly, with clear signs of regret and embarrassment induced upon the broad part of his face. It was given...and it was detailed...and the overall point and summary of the entire report made him feel like an enormous jerk...especially with how he had hit his opponent. No pride was taken in what Riyel had done, now that he was more than fully aware of himself. Personally, he felt like he was going to be kicked in his own nethers, one way or another in the upcoming future. But he functioned as he could, with Sou-Ho's unwavering eyes on him the entire time until the doors opened, revealing...the probable kick in the nethers he knew was soon to come...but he just then realized it.

Brother? Riyel thought, before a feeling of dread simply fell upon his shoulders. Heavens...no...please....it was just becoming quickly ridiculous, his situation anyway. He was about to give Lisanna a more blunt version of what he had just entailed Sou-Ho but then Sou-Ho, more or less saved him with another residual threat with the promise of retribution...and that made Riyel's immediately risen hopes crumble upon their foundation. It wasn't hard to guess that he was going to have to do something in return for the wrongs that he had committed but the reality of it was more than what he was willing to accept. How had he done such a stupid, stupid, stupid thing! Never once had he snapped like that outside of a battle, Ifrit merely chuckling in his head. Making no noise, Riyel simply stood up and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him as he simply fell with his back on the door, simply looking at the ground...he had messed up, he knew very well.

{{Ooc:// Shorter post is short =w=; }}

If Ellale had known that Tae's eyes always returned to her after looking around, she might have been a bit embarrassed considering her own eyes wandered the room aimlessly as Tae ate. Once she'd made her decision to dance though, and stood of course, Tae seemed uncertain as to if dancing was going to treat Ellale well. "I promise, nya." Ellale said with a smile, her strange, yet familiar, cat like sound playing into her sentence. Tae got to her feet either way, smiling as she did so. Ellale took a moment to stretch out her arms and legs a bit, testing for any pain from such a motion before discerning that she would certainly be able to dance at least for a while before being too tired and needing to rest again. Of course, Tae's words drew a faint giggle from Ellale who shook her head. "Don't worry about it. I'm not exactly the most fit dance partner right now." She replied gently, but it didn't seem like it bothered her that she knew this fact. It rather seemed like she couldn't care in the world.

It took some thinking and the pair went onto the dance floor as to how this would work. With the music so formal and such it was fitting for the pair to dance together, but it left a rather interesting question. Who was supposed to lead? Usually it was the male, but quite obviously neither Tae or Ellale were male, however Tae already admitted to not knowing how to dance very well, and Ellale was hardly in the shape to lead at all. Regardless of this though, when Ellale took Tae's hand gently, turning to face her, she wasn't exactly concerned about that. "It's weird to think we're here." She said softly, slowly shifting with the music with Tae. Her words probably meant more than she originally meant, but it was true. Given that both of them could have died on the bridge, that they were both SeeD, that Ellale had got up the courage to ask Tae, none of it could have happened. One change and they'd not be where they were, and it went back even farther to when they'd met so long ago.

Lisanna was patiently waiting for Riyel to explain himself but she had also expected that Sou Ho would take control of the situation and try to diffuse it, probably by telling her she had nothing to do with it. She was right. She turned her attention to him, looking not exactly thrilled to be hearing this and it was clear she didn’t buy a word of what he was saying. As Kalay walked in to apologise for her she threw him a scowl, looking even less thrilled that he was attempting to excuse her behaviour. She wasn’t going to be sorry for sticking up for Salem, so she believed her actions were justified in this instance. No, she hadn’t taught Nona and Riyel, but Salem was her brother, which was a good a reason as any for her to be involved…a fact which she was about to remind Sou Ho but even as she opened her mouth to protest he put an end to the matter, saying Riyel would be held responsible at some point. Lisanna still looked dissatisfied but she held her tongue and looked away, ignoring Riyel as he was dismissed and got up to leave. It was better than nothing, though an apology for Salem would have been more appropriate. At this point she noticed Carbuncle sitting on her feet and blinked before smiling faintly. Of course he would try to stop her doing anything impulsive in such a cute way. She reached down and plucked the little GF from the folds of her dress and cradled him in her arms affectionately, taking care not to damage the rose she was still holding.

Now that the issue with Riyel had been dealt with (sort of), it seemed Sou Ho had something confidential to tell them. It wasn’t unusual for him to discuss things privately with them, such as details about missions and various other things, but strangely Lisanna got a bad feeling about whatever it was he had to say this time, particularly as he took extra care to make sure they wouldn’t be overhead…and also because he was bringing this up during the middle of the ball, which meant it must be too urgent to wait. Lis thought that Sou Ho was a pretty inscrutable person at the best of times but even so she could tell something was troubling him greatly. This could not be good. She took one of the seats he offered, sitting down slowly with Carbuncle in her lap. Sou Ho began to speak and she found herself watching him intently, feeling as though there was a knot in her stomach. Gradually this feeling worsened as she listened to everything he had to say and by the end the girl had gone pale. There was a tense silence when he finished, but after a moment she cleared her throat and managed to speak.

”My God…we’re being sent to our deaths.” She said finally, staring at him with wide eyes. ”Even if we succeed, there’s a good chance we won’t return from this…” Lisanna bowed her head and closed her eyes, clearly coming to terms with it. She wouldn’t refuse, of course. She’d never turned down a mission before and she never would, even if it might be her last. And this one probably would. She’d accepted a long time ago that being a SeeD always carried a risk of death….but it was different when you knew that death was almost certain. It left her feeling cold and shaky. She hugged Carbuncle close, trying not to cry. She was pretty devastated…especially considering she’d only just been made an instructor, and she’d only just met her long lost brother. Now she would lose it all. The girl took a deep breath to steady herself and looked up at Sou Ho, giving him a weak smile. She knew it must have been difficult for him to deliver such news, so she wouldn’t make it any harder by letting her emotions show too much. ”Oh well…at least the ball is a nice send off…” She said lightly, though it was fairly clear she was only pretending to be okay. She hugged Carbuncle again and then glanced up at Kalay to see how he was taking it.

Indeed I am. Kelsier Nebulous, at your service. The headmaster said, bowing slightly to Varitas. Ex-officer of the Galbadian military and headmaster of Winhill Garden. The headmaster smiled when Varitas commented on his own state, chuckling softly. "Then it appears my timing was quite excellent."

The headmaster contemplated Varitas's request, taking several moments as he seemed to be considering something before nodding slowly, almost hesitantly. "I think we will be able to spare some supplies, at the very least. An insurance, if you will." Reaching into the pocket of his uniform, the headmaster drew a notepad and a fountain pen. Flipping to a blank page, he quickly scrawled a list of items, bulleting the supplies and crossing a number beside each one before tearing the page out and replacing the notepad and pen. He looked over the page for a glance before turning his head to the ball and searching for someone. "Ah, there he is. Kyrrdis!"

In the distance, seated at a table having what appeared to be a one-sided conversation with a rathr attractive blond, who appeared to be ignoring her "companion" with all of her might, Kyrrdis perked up. Pointing to himself and confirming he had been called, the man sighed, bid his adieu to the woman, who spared him no such pleasantries, before coming over to the Headmaster and the outsider. "Yeaaaa. Alex is as tough to crack a nut to crack as I remember." He chuckled as he approached the two, rubbing at the back of his head. Unlike the headmaster who was as stiff as a board Kyrrdis was completely relaxed, his posture sloppy and outwardly appearing completely off-guard. Turning around and seeing her watching, he waved to her, grinning widely like a boy whom had just discovered something amazing. The woman whom he had been flirting with turned her head away from him, seemingly huffing. "Wonder if she'll be up for that dance." He turned around when the headmaster coughed, remembering whom had called him over. "Ah, sorry 'bout that. Hard to ignore a pretty face. What'cha need, chief?" He asked, looking to the headmaster, giving the man his full attention now.

"Hmph. I need you to gather the items listed on his page and see them, personally, delivered to Centra. This young man here can give you the coordinates you need, I believe."
"Haaah." The combat instructor exhaled in exasperation when he took the list and saw the size of the order. "When do you want me to do all of this?" He asked, looking back up at the headmaster, clearly wishing for the answer he knew he was going to hear.
"Tonight. I want you to be on your way back by tomorrow evening. I do not need to explain why there is the need for haste, do I?" Kyrrdis didn't miss a beat when he shook his head, straightening from his relaxed and slouched posture as he adopted one fit for any soldier, even his expression growing more serious. "There will be no need for that, sir. I understand. I'll have it done."
"Good. In that case..." Turning back to Varitas he smiled reassuringly. "You can give directions to your people to Master Laine, here. I will also have him direct you to my office, where I believe my grandson has gone to take care of some business. You can get the exact details of the mission from him, as well as meet the group who you will be working with."
The headmaster seemed to ponder something for a moment, before opening his mouth and continuing. "While they may not be the hardened survivalists you are used to working with, they are not all weak. Their success with their last mission is proof enough of that. They will make mistakes. Mistakes that anywhere else would be the death of them. But they will make up for that with their courage and enthusiasm. Or perhaps foolishness." The headmaster chuckled at this. "But I hope that you will not think of them too lightly. My grandson most of all. He is still young, and more naive then what he himself believes, but he understands the importance of a life. As I am sure you do as well."

"Ah, but let me not keep you here any long. Kyrrdis, if you would."
"No problem, chief. C'mon, Shaggy. Let's go find lil' Sue."
"Don't let my grandson catch you calling him that, I don't believe he will find as much humor in your... naming sense."
"It's fine, it's fine. He's always liked that nickname." Kyrrdis laughed, waving goodbye to the headmaster as he sauntered for the exit. He didn't spare a glance at the table where Alex sat, or look for his favored pupil. Looking back meant a hope to return, and a soldier feared nothing when there was no going back.

"Welp, that there is the headmaster's office. The doors are shut, so I guess Sou-Ho is having a little meeting." Kyrrdis laughed, "Guess he can't wait to take over when the old man retires." By this point Varitas should have already given the coordinates to the location of his comrades, or at least a rough estimate of which locations Kyrrdis was most likely to find them. With the list in hand, all Kyrrdis would have to do was get the loot and deliver the goods ASAP. "Good luck out there, and don't slip up. You may be used to fighting monsters, and are probably good at it too. But if there is one thing I have found in my service in the military, and in the garden, it's that no creature is as dangerous as Man. You keep that bit of wisdom in your pocket while you're out there." Smiling and waving, Kyrrdis left Varitas in the hallway, hands in pockets and whistling a tune as he strolled for the elevator.

As always, and as Kalay always expected, Sou-ho was as stern as ever. His expression looked absolutely unamused at Kalay's entrance, and he already looked stern from Lisanna's arrival. Well, this just wasn't turning out to be his day, not that Kalay seemed to care. Sou-ho had never liked him, as far as Kalay had known. It didn't matter much to Kalay though as he held a certain level of respect for the man. He was pretty much everything Kalay did not appear to be. Interesting enough, it sounded like Sou-ho was coming up with excuses for Riyel to not have to explain himself, which was a bit off from what Kalay would have expected, but... there was the matter that Lisanna wasn't even supposed to be here, interrupting. That might explain why Kalay had entered as he had. Quickly enough though, Riyel was dismissed, though Lisanna seemed less than happy about that. It was rather clear in her gaze that she wasn't done with what had happened, but kept herself from speaking up. Carbuncle didn't move at all from her feet either, waiting for anything drastic that might crop up. In all though, no harm was done.

Kalay turned his attention slowly back to Sou-ho as Sou-ho requested they have a seat. Kalay gave him a curious look, walking over and leaning against the back of the chair with his elbows as he watched Sou-ho. "Must be something serious." Kalay muttered under his breath as he glanced over at Lisanna whom had taken Carbuncle into her arms and sat in the chair nearby. Carbuncle seemed completely relaxed, curled up with eyes closed in her lap, letting her stroke his hair gently. There was something odd about this that he didn't like, but he couldn't put his finger on it as he waited for Sou-ho to continue. Eventually, the man began. The conversation was probably one of the most surreal experiences he'd had in a while. This might have been due to the fact that as Sou-ho continued to speak, Kalay could tell Carbuncle had sat up and was looking at the Instructor as well. The room was as cold as an ice storm by the time the man was done speaking. No one made a sound for the first few seconds after Sou-ho's speech. The first person to make a sound since Sou-ho's finish, and perhaps move, was Lisanna. On the outside, Kalay looked almost no different from how he had, his posture still relaxed, his expression passive. There was something different though, of which Sou-ho would no doubt pick up on if he bothered to look the man in the eyes. Kalay's eyes were colder, a serious edge to them as he watched Sou-ho.

"Martyr's, huh?" Kalay said faintly, standing up slowly, putting his hand in his pocket as he stood there watching Sou-ho. Carbuncle seemed to be brooding in Lisanna's lap, Kalay feeling what might have been an unspoken, hidden rage from the GF. "Why can't they just leave you alone already... was once not enough?" Kalay didn't bother responding to Carbuncle. There wasn't a point and now wasn't the time. Lisanna was hugging Carbuncle whom seemed to be acting as a comfort for her. If not for Lisanna, Kalay doubted Carbuncle would still be around. A faint sigh escaped Kalay's lips as he shifted over to Lisanna's side. His hand patted her head, a bit awkwardly considering it might have come across as random to Sou-ho. "I have a request." Kalay's voice was a bit tense, unusual for him, as he watched Sou-ho with his yellow eyes. "Ellale Laytos is most likely not in the state for any mission. I request that you suggest she stay behind. I won't ask you to tell her to, because she's her own person now, she can decide for herself. She's injured and she may be a liability which is a concern." He was making up an excuse, one that Sou-ho would no doubt understand his reasoning behind. Ellale was his sister. He couldn't want his sister to share his fate, the grim one placed before him, but regardless she was a SeeD. Kalay could only make a request, nothing more.

After that, Kalay went silent. There was not a more tense atmosphere in the entire Garden at that moment. They were SeeD. They were prepared for this. Kalay knew that better than anyone, even the man that stood before him. They went on missions knowing they could die and never return. Kalay not only understood that, he had seen it. Perhaps that was how he could keep that outward display of being so relaxed, even if his eyes betrayed him. For as much as Sou-ho refused to give him credit as a SeeD, Kalay Laytos was indeed one. He'd been ready since being a trainee to die, nothing had changed. Another impossible mission meant nothing more than he would have to do his best to make sure as many could live as possible. It was the least someone like him could do.

Sou-Ho did not need to nod or speak to confirm that what Lisanna had said was the gospel truth. No matter what happened on the mission, the three who sat in the room now would undoubtedly not be returning to Winhill when they departed for the mission tomorrow morning. Lisanna had clearly accepted this, but Kalay, as always, was an enigma to Sou-Ho. Outwardly Kalay had barely changed at all, but as Sou-Ho revealed to them what he knew he could see the growing edge in Kalay's eyes. As much as he thought he understood Kalay, Sou-Ho found himself even more unsure of the man's character than before. Oddly, it was at times like this Sou-Ho felt like he could trust Kalay to do what needed to be done. But it was because of times like these that Sou-Ho knew that what Kalay had to do might not always be within his best interests. But perhaps that was a street which went both ways for the two, and why they would never quite see eye to eye.

"If I had it my way, Kalay, none of you would be going on this mission." Sou-Ho said softly, almost inaudibly in the deafening silence of the room. "I will do what I can." He said louder, but clearly making no promise. Hopefully Kalay would understand that Sou-Ho had absolutely no authority over this mission. He was being put in charge, but the ones who gave the orders were higher up than him, and they would be less caring than him. Everything about this mission was for the greater good, no doubt as they saw it.

Sou-Ho winced at Lisanna's weak smile, turning his eyes away from her before looking to Kalay, his eyes burrowing into his fellow instructor. Anger? Jealousy? Envy? It was hard to tell what emotions were swimming around in Sou-Ho's mulberry eyes, but he maintained his expression to that of the composed leader. He had asked for this position. He had donned this mantle knowing fully well the weight of the responsibility, and for that he would not permit himself self-pity for the position he was in.

"I want you both to know that you do not need to take part in this mission. Especially with the particular task that has been asked of us. In fact, it might even be better if you two didn't." He said, pushing himself to his feet and walking around the chair to the window, staring outside without actually seeing. "There will be a retaliation for what we intend to commit, and Winhill will undoubtedly need as much support as it can get." And the fewer that went, the fewer casualties he would have to risk. But both knew, as well as he, that even if he gave them an option there was no backing out of this. They knew the details now, and as such they were compelled to take part whether they wanted to or not. He had had them sign their own death warrants without giving them the chance to read the certificate.

"If there is one final thing I would like to make clear, it is that the cadets... no, that the new operatives' lives are to be made a priority over the mission." A deviation from the original plans, Sou-Ho turned around to face Kalay and Lisanna, expression conflicted. "If things should go wrong, I want the both of you to abandon our objective and ensure that they escape, or are given the chance they need to get away. My grandfather might be fine sending children to their deaths, but I am not." Even to his own ears his words sounded hollow. Just by sending them on the mission he was sending them to their death. But they at least had a chance. He would put his life on the life to make sure of that.

"That is all. You are both dismissed for the evening. Enjoy the ball, and make the most of the night. This may be your last." He turned away, staring out the window but watching the two through the reflection of the window to see what they would do. 'I won't ask for forgiveness.' He thought, withholding a sigh.
