[ dead end zone b ]

She didn’t have a watch on her, but Flair knew time was up. It had been thirty minutes and she was still trapped somewhere else inside the Labyrinth. Glare protested as she tapped the barrel of the gun against the wall a couple times before sighing. The hunter wouldn’t be leaving this dead end anytime soon. Eyes closed, she turned around and plopped down on the ground, her back against the wall with her gun protectively held in her arms in case something came up.

Two voices crackled in her headset, both of whom conveniently asked her similar questions.

Cody and Aki
Headset: I’m in a dead end. My arm’s still fine, but it looks like I won’t be going anywhere for a while.

Over the headset she could hear Liam in the headset, clearly at the center of the Labyrinth. Yet a new voice popped in and caused Flair to furrow her eyebrows. Trap? It sounded like a woman, but its words put the Life hunter at unease. She gripped her gun tighter as she stood up, whispering into her headset.

Cody and Aki
Headset: Cody, Aki. What’s going on? Who was that?

She wanted so badly to be there at the center, to know who was the intruder, what was happening, to gauge the situation better, but she was still here stuck in a dead end. Flair wanted to yell.

Billie's grip tightened on her staff when the voice slid from the shadows. She widened her stance in caution, staying her ground on the fringes of the group. She wanted a clear shot if the division leads decided it was time to fight.

She cast a glance to Warden, trusting his self control entirely (better than hers anyway) but checking just to make sure. Billie could tell just by the swing of the creature's hips that she was trouble and she would be no help to them.

You didn't have to be a woman to tell she was untrustworthy. This being just oozed danger.

Wolf took in a breath as the woman stepped into the light. His eyes first centered on her wings, then on her form itself and he surprised the urge to attack. He appraised her, looked her over, analyzed. He noticed the hand Liam had lifted and did not move, simply changing his stance into a more defenceable one.

Who is that? asked his weapon, an oddly quiet edge to the werewolf's voice.

Dunno... Skoll, you on my side here? he asked in return. It was a common question he asked when going into a hard battle or mission. He didn't want the weapon to turn on him, but it was more of a sort of... pack like thing. He made sure that his pack were following his lead, and Skoll made sure Wolf was on the same page.

...Always... rumbled the weapon. The answer surprised Wolf; usually Skoll yelled at him for always asking it. It was almost a little disconcerning.

He hoped his weapon didn't know something he didn't.

[Labyrinth Center]

Wounded? The corners of Marsh's mouth pulled down in a worried scowl. Lowe hadn't sounded like he was in too much pain, seemed to be unworried about reaching the center of the maze, which suggested that it wasn't serious, but still --

Rown
Headset: Be careful.

And then the world stopped for a moment as War stepped out into the light. Marsh froze. A trap. And the fear hunters had been drawn in, leaving the runics in the human world to deal with whatever might come out of that portal.

Marsh's hand tightened on Miyako's grip until she hissed at him. Liam had signaled them all to stop, not attack; Marsh was torn between a furious desire to lash out at the creature standing there and a bone-deep urge to hide, not draw its attention. A Horseman.

They were so ********>.

As if to prove her wrong, the sound of a woman's provocative voice called their attention, and Em stood up straight, taking a step forward with her pole straight in front of her, held vertically. Her eyes darkened just slightly as she went into work mode, staring at the .. well, whatever she was, she was kind of hot.

Liam's order was wordless, but obeyed. Em positioned herself just slightly in front of Isaac, and stood at attention, waiting for the order to attack.

Lowe's voice, over her headset, made her pale slightly - but she couldn't react now. Not when they were faced with a much greater problem than just being injured. Wherever Lowe was.. he was probably better off.

The questions started to fly on the headsets, from all sorts of hunters who'd heard the newcomer's entry. Em pushed her button, emitting off the main channel.

EVERYONE ON HEADSETS
"We've got a hostile at the center, maintain radio silence. We've got this covered."

Fun as she was, Em did not survive this long without knowing when to get down to business.

[[REUBEN IS CURRENTLY IN: LABYRINTH CENTER.]]

"Don't wanna mess up yer clothes," he said laughing a bit as he gazed around he shifted a broad shoulder as he responded to Julien's question, "I think they're lookin' for somethin'..." Reuben then stared over at Warden as he talked to him through the headset grinning a little bit. "I'm right here, Brother."

Naturally there was no way Warden could have known since this was probably the first time they'd ever really seen each other, either way it was good thing to point out.

The large man had been about to say something more when his attention was caught when Liam was talking. Something seemed wrong and soon enough that something made an appearance. Truthfully the figure was lovely if only she had a more sincere smile on her face and didn't seem the sort that was intent to murder them all where they stood. He gripped his weapon tightly wanting to surge forward but the signal from Liam stilled him where he stood though his eyes darkened a bit.

This didn't look good. Reuben didn't like. Reuben smash. neutral

(derp I'M SLOW SORRY)

"Hmmmmm", Titania ran her hand slowly over a (seemingly random) string of runes. "I suppose it's moot to determine whether they react to our presence, but have any of them shown any activity in response to our weapon's fear abilities?" She was so focused on the runes that it was only when she felt Warden and Billie simultaneously stiffen besides her -----

A damn horsewoman, what on EART----- ooh. A trap. Hindsight always 20/20.

Titania's hands automatically dropped down to clutch her dual blades, but at Liam's signal, she resisted the urge to bring them up into the Swallow stance (but ******** it, there's no way she's not at least keeping a loose grip on Ellya, Liam be damned). Any show of arms could potentially escalate the situation instantaneously. No, they had lost the initiative already; without any knowledge of the enemy numbers, position, or abilities, their chances of survival were rapidly dwindling down to single digits.

Instead, she quickly changed her channel:

Everyone on headsets
Headset: Be wary, there may be more of them hiding in this blasted maze. Congregate with the others not yet in the center, and reinforce a defensive position before making any rash decisions.

LABYRINTH CENTER

::Told you I could come up with better 'pet' names, my precious fool.::

Lex ignored them both, opting to watch Becca check over the handy work that Cody had done with bandaging his own arm. "I hate to give you any more of an ego than you already have..." he grinned at Cody. "But...nice job. Took care of yourself and managed to patch yourself up in the process." He sighed, and looked to his own leg. "Better than I was able to accomplish." The last was murmured just loud enough for his two friends to hear.

"Can't say I'm really surprised, darlin'. Everything - aside from the fact we are in a labyrinth - just seemed...too easy?" He frowned. Maybe it was the part of him that got paranoid or didn't trust very easily. But Lex had not liked the way things started to go. Especially since there was no artifact discovered yet.

Lex's eyebrows rose at Cody, looking towards the glyphs himself. "I dunno, but I did wonder the same-" His sentence was cut short when another voice drifted over all the others. A feminine one that sent the hairs at the back of his neck standing on end. He didn't need the low, dangerous growl in his mind from Mordy to know he had to be on alert now. Painfully, but still just as swiftly, Lex was on his feet, glaive in his hand and ready for use. But he made no move to attack, eyes barely flickering towards the division heads. He only stared at the figure that had appeared.

::Stay on your toes. This one makes my non-existent fur stand on end.::

"Watch your backs." He murmured softly to the two people he cared for more than any hunter had a right to. "I got at least both yours." Lex added, even more softly than before. Powerful words to speak to a fellow Hunter.

[ TRAP ZONE A ]

Marsh's voice, followed by Em's strong words of encouragement, prompted Lowe to move a bit. He didn't leave the area even though someone suggested they all slowly start to move. His shoulder ached from the arrow sticking out of it and he leaned against Afzal, using the voulge as a crutch rather than a weapon. Afzal was not pleased, but he kept his silence.

They both knew what was on the end of that headset, and Lowe bit his lower lip. his weapon would complain, but he had to voice his thoughts of a bit. If this really was a trap and they were all going to die - he might as well.

[ LABRYINTH CENTER ]

Automatically he stood nearer to Billie, though the arrival pf Reuben made Warden look to the side, giving the other a small, brief nod.

"Glad to see you made it," he said quietly, but he could feel the air tensing, feel the sudden shift of movement, taste the danger on his tongue.

"Though now I'm not so sure here is the safest place to be."

She came, not quietly as some might have, but with a swaggering, confident step, her heels clicking on the ground and echoing all around them with a sound louder and more ominous than it should have been. Fiery red hair cascaded over slender shoulders like waves of pure flames.

A trap. They had walked straight into a trap.

Warden's hands clenched around the sai swords, his eyes not leaving the horsewoman, but on either side of him he could feel Billie and Titania tensing, both of them staring in exactly the same direction as he was.

-- Warden. -- murmured Tee, her voice the softest whisper. -- Warden... --

I know.

[Dead End Zone B]

A cold chill ran down her spine as the message came across the headset. A trap. The artifact wasn't there and they had walked right into a trap and not a lot of time left before they needed to get the hell out of there. No... no no no no, this wasn't happening damn it. Things just went from bad to worse and Miriam had a feeling that things were just going to get worse from here on out.

Verdandi growled out despite growing more aggressive. This could end horribly... and was probably going to. But both knew there was no way they were going down without putting up one hell of a fight.

There had been no way to know.

They're not ready, Albatross said, his voice rolling like thunder through Ferdinand's mind. Though he had long ago mastered the weapon itself, the personality behind it remained a mystery to the hot-tempered man. Well... mystery was a bit of a strong word in the sense that it implied a need to be solved.

Albatross was an inherited weapon, passed down when possible from father to son, and when not possible from one hunter to a promising trainee. There was a rich lore split between several long and incredibly boring stories that he had not bothered to listen to. He didn't care what the hell the battle axe was before it was a battle axe, really. He hadn't cared when he was twenty-one, and he didn't care now that he was forty-three.

Some things simply never changed.

I think you're confusing me giving a bulls brassed balls what you think with me telling you to shut it, Albert.

Albatross

Right, Alfred.

Not once in their twenty-two years together had Ferdinand ever called Albatross by his proper name. The weapon claimed that Ferdinand had once slurred it while drunk, but the Sun hunter maintained that he had been saying For the first year he had done remarkably well in not repeating any names. About fourteen months in, though, he had exhausted his list.

Ferdinand ignored the weapon's voice as he made a beeline for the spectacle at the Labyrinth's heart. Hed spared little in the way of courtesy as he shoved aside anyone standing between himself and Liam, and seemed more or less the same grumpy old man until he came to stand beside the Death Hunter..

Then, he set his eyes on War, and Ferdinand's jaw tightened.

“Hunters.”

His voice crackled into the headset without the need for any introduction. Most of them had been yelled at enough times that they could recognize his voice easily. If they couldn't... well, Ferdinand was never a man who went out of his way to make things easy.

“Fall back.

Now.

War's amusement was palpable even before her head rolled back and her sharp laughter filled the night. War wore her arrogance like a mantle, a simple accessory piled on top of the strands of beads and gold that adorned her throat. The Hunters could only define her as amazonian in her appearance, undeniable in both beauty and power. Her eyes were a vibrant gold, and they rolled skyward to follow her brows in an attempt at a sad expression.

“Just think,” the woman said, “all those people.”

War could only pretend to pity them, and so her forlorn expression was quickly usurped by a smug grin. What did they want from her? Tears shed in the name of humanity? A bleeding heart set at their feet, begging for forgiveness? The very thought brought another peal of laughter that echoed through the Labyrinth.

At least, it seemed like an echo at first, until other voices joined in.

And another.

One by one, clawed hands creeped over the walls, dragging up the winged women attached. The clan of War had answered their leader's call. Within seconds, there were dozens of them, their pale faces covered by ornate masks that mirrored their own birds of prey. Only their yellow eyes were visible behind the feathers and beads. They stared down at the Hunters from the walls like ravens on a power line might look at a piece of fresh roadkill.

“All those people,” War repeated, and her clawed hands flexed as though in anticipation, “Soon, they will know whose world it is, and you will cease this laughable struggle. Kneel, humans, and I may consider sparing your lives.”

Ferdinand snorted deeply, and spat the resulting mix of snot and saliva out on the ground at the creature's feet. He tightened his grip on Albatross' handle, but let the heavy blade rest on the ground.

He was ready. He looked at John, and the two men nodded together, again served well by their understanding of one another. Time had a way of testing men, and the two of them had been through for too much to not trust one another entirely. As only brothers in arms ever could.

“Liam, I reckon you better get moving.”

"Falling back sounds like a most excellent plan," Cecil nodded sagely before valiantly turning on his heal to bolt. He hated Halloween. He hated being there, he hated being sent there, he hated the things they found within, and above all else, he hated being toyed with.

He needed to find Andrew. Andrew was a perfect meat shield, there was just *so much of him* to hide behind.

His headset crackled as people spoke over it, and Wolf paid it really no mind. Frankly he ignored most of the idle chatter that had come over it since they'd started. Now though, he did not not pay attention. Ferdinand's voice came over, echoing the voice he could hear softly in the center.

He clenched his fists silently and took a few steps backwards, eyes never leaving War. He slipped his left hand into his pack, fishing as quietly and none descretely as he could, for the object that would get him back to base.

And then suddenly.

There were more of them.

Fear gripped him and he took a few more steps back. Oh yes, falling back was and excelent idea. He glanced around and Skoll gave an snarl of something he didn't recognize.

The sooner he bolted, the better.
