Madison was not late. Not precisely! It was just that she'd had to put together her perfect ensemble and well, it just took a while to achieve perfection, okay?! Geez.

In any case, the Hunter trainee arrived fashionably late, dressed all in red with a fetching, swirly skirt cut just above the knee, trimmed in white faux fur. Very festive. There was even a red bow with bells on in her hair, making soft chimes every time she moved. Oh yes, she was adorable.

People were dancing! That was kind of awesome. She didn't have a date. That was... not quite so awesome. Feeling slightly out of place without some dude on her arm, Madison sidled over and watched the antics on the floor, jumping when Jerry practically bellowed Robert's name and stumbled over to the bigger man. Gosh, she still wasn't used to Robert's natural hair color.

"Right," said Gale with an emphatic nod. "I like this. We have our own style."

<< You are so going to wake up in the morning and feel like an iiiidiottt. >> cackled Jinhai in amusement, but, like he had been doing all day, Gale simply ignored him and concentrated on the fact that he got to dance with Eva.

It was really a very nice Christmas party, he decided.

"Okay, maybe," he admitted with a sheepish sort of half grin. "I mean, it's not too - woah!"

Eva had snagged his hands and they were now...spinning. In circles. Like two little kids. It caught him off guard, Gale's face flushed an interesting shade of pink, but he laughed anyway, going along with it and spinning around with the older girl.

"Okay, yes, I'm having a good time," he called to her, shaking his head in amusement. "You were right."

This was definitely the best party ever.

Another thing about living with a professional dancer (and he was, without a doubt, professional) was that lifting happened. Frequently. Or perhaps it was just a 'Robert thing.' He picked up everyone, or at least every girl he felt affection for, and there wasn't anything anyone could do about it except remember that unless he was pitching you across the room, it was out of love. He plucked her up then and there, in the middle of the dance floor, and she merely rested her hands on his shoulders, allowing her legs to tuck a little to one side to seat herself on his arm as he moved away from the other dancing couples, her eyes glittering merrily. "It was only fair -- you're a professional, it would have been unethical of us to compete." She refrained from saying 'even if I would have acted as your handicap,' mostly because she did not feel like arguing back with him about it. He was far too sweet and polite (yes Clarice, he actually was very polite,) to do anything but protest.

Smoothing her dress as he set her daintily back down on her feet, she moved to the dessert table, idly eyeing the alcoholic beverages, pretty reds and greens and blues and clear crystalline glasses, which were pretty much off limits to those underage. Still, after a moment or two's thought, she reached over to take a red one regardless, admiring the sugar which lined the rim of the glass prettily before taking a sip. Age limits on an island where there were no cars, nor any jails, was silly. If they had any real qualms about it, she had none when it came to doing extra duties. Robert had tilted his head down again, keeping his arms around her waist so she was flush against him, and she reached up with her free hand to run her fingers through his hair idly, affectionately, her eyes flicking with remarkably obvious happiness to Jerry as he approached.

"Happy Hanukkah Four~" she offered in a low, warm alto, giving him a rare smile, leaning in a little to give him a chaste kiss on the lips. Oh yes, he had most certainly been drinking. The smell of alcohol, sweet and appealing, was obvious as soon as she'd leaned in close, clinging to his wonderful sweater. Surprisingly, this only made her smile more warm, unusually so for the frigid girl. That was, until he was suddenly whispering, particularly unsubtle if she did say so herself, and her eyebrows furrowed again quizzically, head tilting slightly to the side.

"Do what?"

Turning her head to peer at the boy with his head on her shoulder, she lifted an eyebrow curiously, clearly suspicious now.

"Do what."

Midnight blue eyes flicking between the two, she pursed her lips a bit, thinking for a minute before speaking again, her voice completely deadpan.

"... is this about me typing Santa to a chair? Because if it is, you'd better not give me away. Unless you're trying to stop me." Narrowing her eyes a little, she took a sip, looking kind of like a bad Bond villain. "You can't stop me, Jerry."

Oh lord.

Robert unwrapped one arm from around Petra's waist, and used it to grab Jerry and pull him up off his feet and into Robert's face. He hissed as his eyes went wide, glaring his friend down.

"SHHHSHSHSHSHHH."

At least, he thought he was being quiet. Then he dropped Jerry and used that same arm to grab up the delicious looking little morsel that Maddie was, giving her a great big hug.

"OH MY GOD MADDIE, you look good enough to eat. Like. Literally. Pet, look at this cutie. I want to put her on top of the cake, she is so pretty."

Was this all a diversion tactic to keep Petra from being suspicious? Maybe. Or maybe this was his odd way of reacting to the fact that Petra had just kissed Jerry. Or maybe Maddie really did look just that adorable.

Oh, wait, no, it was the second. This much was obvious by the fact that Robert leaned down, and stole a kiss from Madison before she could say a word.

Yeah, definitely the second one.

She was almost to the punch bowl when someone called out to her, startling her. Thankfully it was someone she knew, and a wide smile broke across her face at the sight of the Death trainee. “Hey Jude ~ !” She quipped back cheerfully. “Happy holidays!” Ooh, Jude was introducing his friend! Who happened to be—

Molly looked a bit taken aback at first, before letting out a small, delighted laugh. Jude was friends with Frosty the Snow man?

Hello Harrison! Happy holidays to you too! Aww…thank you!” The young woman gushed. She looked like a Christmas tree? Hazel eyes darted over to the one currently in the room. Awww…that was really nice of Harrison! Though she doubted she looked that nice. Such a lovely welcome she received from Frosty-Harrison! She dipped her head in agreement. “Yep! I was just on my way there, actually! It looks wonderful! Are you two enjoying the Gala thus far?”

!

Madison turned beet red. "M-Merry Christmas to you t-too, Robert!" she squeaked. There wasn't any mistletoe around, was there? Oh god there was Petra, hi Petra, hi, not stealing your boyfriend, HONEST. Her eyes were as big as saucers.

And then Petra kissed him.

The rest was sort of a blur of not-as-important and WAS THERE MISTLETOE HE HADN'T NOTICED what was even happening oh dear lord. By the time Robert had dropped him, he seemed to catch up with the here-and-now, eyes wide (albeit still glassy) and face a peppermint-swirl of scar tissue, "Oh! OH OHHH! Ahahahaha hi Maddy! Er ahahaha..." It took him two tries to stand up again, brushing himself off and straightening his antlers, "Er.... er.... " Excuses, right! Right ah... "Er... teeeeelll... tell you I was gonna' light the candles!" What candles? He glanced around frantically, spotting a few decorating a table here and there. They were... of the votive variety but candles were candles, right? Excuse: MADE!

Luckily, the distraction worked -- although she watched as Jerry flailed for a while, looking vaguely amused by his antics, she didn't seem particularly suspicious anymore. He was talking about candles and lighting them, which didn't make much sense to her (then again, she did realize that Hanukkah had candles, so she considered he possibly meant that,) but then again, sometimes Jerry just didn't make much sense. Especially when he was flustered. He was also drunk, and together made for a very tolerant Petra, whom merely nodded and smiled understandingly.

Until, of course, Robert kissed Madison.

The motion itself was enough to draw her eyes from Jerry's frantic expression, her own curious as she flicked her eyes over to them, just in time to see him plant a kiss on her lips. She didn't seem mad, though. Smiling pleasantly, she gave Madison a reassuring look as the girl gave her a worried stare, trying to put her at ease. To Robert, however, there was the slightest spark of competitiveness in her gaze, and almost unnatural determination flickering in her eyes as she gave him a long, hard stare.

Really? You wanna play this game? Oh she'd play. Bring it on.

Reaching up with her free hand, Petra touched her fingertips just under Madison's chin, leaning forward to place a soft, gentle kiss on the girl's lips, pulling back to give her a little smile before turning her eyes back to Robert, giving him a narrow-eyed look.

Yeah? What now. b***h.

!!!!

What. Was. Even- huh, girls' lips were nice and soft, part of Madison's mind thought, incongruously. "I, uh, why are you kissing me and not each other, like, not that I mind in a friendly kind of way um but but is there mistletoe on my head somewhere or something?" she stammered. Her eyes were now even wider than before. Somehow.

Robert had no ability to hide the way he felt when he saw that competitive look in Petra's eye. He was, perhaps, just a little too hyped up on JOY to realize that this meant more lips might touch hers, lips that weren't his - and normally, that would make him so angry he would punch holes through tables.

But when the lips that got a taste of Petra were Madison's, his mind blanked out and his grin dropped into gaping awe. The only blood left in his brain was used up by the simple phrase that kept repeating in his ******** that was hot. ********. ********. ********. Fuuuck that was so hot.

So obsessed was he with the image that had burned into his retinas, forever to remain on his mind when he was feeling lonely or bored, that he didn't realize what this meant. Petra's competitive nature had her kissing Madison.

That meant.

That.

Meant.

All the hotness in the world could not keep Robert feeling anything but disgust the moment he realized it. His eyes narrowed to slits, and he growled under his breath at his fiancee. She knew he would never back down from a fight. She knew he couldn't just back away and say you win. He was Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, and she was calling him chicken.

Nobody calls Robert chicken.

The robust giant of a man turned to Jerry, slapped both hands on his shoulders, picked him up off the floor, and frenched him good.

Tedan flushed just slightly when Reine suggested that he go dance with Gale too but ... oh why the hell not. Though he had to wonder (just in passing) what was with all the same-sex kissing/dancing/whatever tonight! I mean, there were two girls kissing over there too - which was kinda hot - but really. AND WHAT WAS ROBERT DOING?!? Maybe it was the joy. PROBABLY. Maybe.

Who knew, Christmas was great!! And maybe they'd danced well enough to get presents. "Well, if you insist," he replied to Reine with a quick smile. Then he moved over to tap Gale on the shoulder. "The girls are now insisting that we dance together after all ... so ...." He held out a hand to the other.

All of the alcohol in the world didn't cushion his psyche from what had just transpired.

He remembered Petra and Maddie... he remembered their lips locking like slowly floating, delicate flower petals meeting in the middle of a puddle. He remembered the strong feeling of Robert needing to shave again, a faint sensation of flailing wildly, frantically trying to push him away, and then...

Jerry went to his happy place.

Candace was there, lounging in the snow like it was cotton batting, only glistening like diamonds, her breasts barely contained by red velvet and toes hidden in black boots, and there was music in the air....

Back in reality, his body went slack, eyes rolling back in his head, as he hummed the dreidel song quietly and desperately.

Petra watched, not in surprise, but with diabolical amusement at the events that transpired, a laugh beginning to bubble up from her throat, soft and low, eyes glittering knowingly, evilly on the sight of her fiance, strong and willful and oh so stubborn, full-on frenching the poor, sweet, unexpecting professor.

She would have made an excellent addition to the forces of evil.

Robert pulled away, placed Jerry back on his feet, and punched him in the shoulder. Then he turned to Petra, wiped his mouth with the back of his jacket, and gave her a sour look. "I hope you're happy now, you little troublemaker." He growled, backing up a step and turning to the desserts table. "********, I need something ridiculously sugary to get this taste out of my mouth." The taste of alcohol and kosher deli meats - Robert was going to be sick.

He shoved the first fancy looking confection into his mouth before he could even figure out what it was.

"Sir!"

"Tell me, my dear. Am I quite mistaken or has the annual holiday orgy gotten off to a rather early start?"

She glanced over at the corner of the party he'd gestured to, considered it for a moment, and then answered clearly, "Probably. But sir, liars don't get presents. So I don't think you should lie about annual holiday orgies."

The older man turned to stare at her in bemused dismay, "Really?"

Nodding firmly, the blonde continued, "Also sir, I need to tell you I don't plan on serving under you anymore."

"Oh, Clarice..." he began mildly, "I'd be happy enough to have you serving on to-" her hand suddenly covered his mouth. The other shaking a finger at him.

"Sir, I won't have your innuendos corrupt and despoil my Christmas Spirit. I want to be pure when Santa takes me." She didn't mention the rocketcopter or the North Pole destination. H was wily and he'd ruin everything, just for fun, given half a chance.

The doctor gently removed her hand so as to take a drink. And then he took another, not knowing if he should laugh or well...

He laughed, and shooed her on her way, "Oh yes, I'd hate to ruin your chances with Santa." Really, he just loved Christmas.
