"Hello to you too, Courtney," Scott said with a nervous chuckle. He slipped his hands into the pockets of his jacket before continuing. "Please believe me when I say that I didn't plan this out... I was on my way to my grandparents' so I could spend the holidays with them... Driving down this street is the quickest way there. I didn't expect the snowstorm..."
Brett did not want to believe Scott, but he knew that their road was the quickest way to Scott's grandparents'. He had been there a couple times back when Rachel and Scott were together... "Just because Rachel is letting you stay doesn't mean that I forgive you." Brett glared at Scott before returning to the living room. He picked up his cards again before closing his eyes and rubbing his temples.
Rachel sighed. "I... I can take your coat for you, if you'd like... and... you can help yourself to food and drinks..." All this time she had not met Scott's eyes, afraid of what she would see in them.

Courtney Berkly "That's reasonable, this storm did come out of no where..." Courtney always tried to be understanding in situations, it was a trait she picked up from her mother. However, it still didn't help how she felt about Scott. Courtney watched Brett return to the living room and Rachel offer to take Scott's coat. She stood awkwardly by the door as Rachel was refusing to make eye contact but Courtney didn't plan on leaving the two of them alone. "Well, how about we head into the living room? I mean it is my turn to judge and you still haven't laid down a card Rach," Courtney had put some false enthusiasm behind her words before heading to the living room. As she entered the living room, Courtney noticed Brett sitting down, looking sort of stressed. Courtney could only imagine the feelings he had towards Scott, she knew her friendly protective side was taking over but since Courtney didn't have siblings she didn't know the intensity of his protective side for his sister. Courtney looked down at her feet, she wanted to help some how but there wasn't much she could do at this point. She came up behind Brett and put a comforting hand on his shoulder.

James Wilson James looked over at Courtney,"So who's this bloke?"He asked setting his cards down,"And why does Rachel look like she's seen the devil himself?"

Scott handed his jacket over to Rachel. "Thanks..." he said, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. He watched Courtney walk into the living room before returning his attention to Rachel. "You look good, Rach." He put his hands into his pockets and gave Rachel a small smile.
Rachel put Scott's jacket with the rest of them and blushed slightly at what he said. "Th-thanks..." she said softly, finally looking up to meet his eyes. Rachel was surprised to see how tired he was. His blue eyes that she had grown to love were no longer bright with energy. Instead, they looked sad... Lonely... Rachel looked away quickly before saying, "L-let's join everyone in the living room..." She left Scott standing in the hallway and sat down next to the coffee table again.
Brett looked up when he felt someone's hand on his shoulder. He turned around and saw Courtney standing behind him. He smiled slightly and placed a hand over hers. "Thanks," he said. He then turned to James. "His name's Scott... and he's Rachel's ex... Left her out of the blue more than a year ago... Dated-" Brett stopped himself when Rachel took her seat. She should be the one telling this stuff to James. Not him.

Courtney Berkly Courtney wasn't expecting Brett to turn around and say thank, she blushed lightly and smiled as to say 'you're welcome'. Courtney knew it wouldn't do much but she hoped it would at least comfort him a little. When Brett had started explaining who Scott was to James, she found her way back to her seat on the couch and picked up her glass to take a drink. Then Rachel had taken her seat next to the coffee table and Brett had stopped talking. Courtney had taken another drink of her punch before setting it back down. She wasn't sure what there was to say, so she waited for someone to strike up some conversation.

Zooey listened to Brett and frowned when he revealed that the voice in the hallway did in fact belong to Scott. She watched Rachel take a seat, feeling awful for her friend. Why did he have to show up now? Zooey turned toward the doorway and saw Scott slowly enter the room. She quickly looked away and tried to focus on the game in front of her. However, everyone was too preoccupied with the Scott situation. "Why don't we find something else to do?" Zooey suggested. "Rachel, did I see marshmallows in the kitchen? Maybe we can roast some over the fire."

James Wilson James glanced at Scott,'So this dumb ******** up and left here without any warning?'He asked in his thoughts, he was already starting to hate this guy. He glanced at Rachel and frowned,'Poor girl...'

Rachel could feel everyone's eyes on her but she ignored them as best as she could. When Zooey spoke up, Rachel looked at her and gave her a small smile. "That sounds like a good idea," she agreed. "Would you mind getting them? I just need to sit right now..." Rachel sighed and looked up at James. What did he think of all this? Rachel wished desperately that he would just come out and admit whether or not he liked her. She really wished that James was more than a friend and could show Scott that she had moved on. I just want you to hold me, she thought, feeling tears begin to sting her eyes.
Brett watched his sister slowly fall apart as she sat looking up at James. Why did you have to let him in, Rach? Brett sighed. If he were in her situation he would have probably done the same thing, but he did not know if he would be so passive about it. Let's not let this ruin the party, he thought desperately. When Zooey got up to get the marshmallows, Brett stood up and turned up the Christmas music. "Have a holly jolly Christmas! It's the best time of the year..."
Scott was hesitant to walk into the room with all of Rachel's friends. Who was going to yell at him? Who was an unfamiliar face? Who was Rachel's new boyfriend? Scott stood by the snack table and helped himself to a cookie and punch. He then slowly walked farther into the room and took a seat on the floor next to Rachel.

James Wilson James moved closer to Rachel and smiled at her. He then put a hand on hers,"You alright?"He asked quiet enough so only she could hear him.

Courtney Berkly After the suggestion had been made that they roast marshmallows, Courtney sorted out the cards and put the game away. She then leaned back and relaxed into the couch as she listened to the music. It was nice that Brett had turned on music, it always seemed to relive any negative energy from her. After a few moments of listening to music, Courtney then got off the couch and walked over to the snack table for a cookie while she thought of ways to cheer Rachel up. An idea popped into her head but if she was wrong she would look like an idiot for suggesting it. Courtney nibbled at the cookie while she debated on her plan. She decided it was worth a shot, so she walked over and whispered in James' ear. "Tell Rachel how you feel about her... I think it might cheer her up a little," Courtney made sure she was quiet enough that only James' heard her, before he had time to reply she moved back to the couch and sat down.

Zooey quietly left the room but not before grabbing a candle first. She made her way to the kitchen as saw that Rachel's candle was still there. After tucking the bag of marshmallows under her arm, Zooey grabbed Rachel's candle and returned to the living room. She put the candles back and noticed that Brett had turned up the music and Scott was finally in the room. She glared at the back of Scott's head before opening the marshmallows and popping one into her mouth. "Anyone wan' one?" Zooey asked, trying to not laugh at how ridiculous she sounded with a marshmallow in her mouth.

Rachel looked at James and gave him a small smile. "Yeah..." she lied, resting her head on his shoulder. She closed her eyes and sighed. After a couple seconds she lifted her head, hoping that James did not mind she had just done that.
Brett watched his sister and James. He handed Courtney his cards and watched her whisper in James' ear. He smirked and looked over at Scott. You better not screw this up.
Scott looked at Rachel curiously as she stared up at the goth kid. Interesting... He watched the goth move next to Rachel and place a hand on hers. Is this her new beau? Scott observed them for a few more seconds before Zooey returned with the marshmallows. "Hey, Zo! I didn't recognize you! Yeah, I'll have one."

James Wilson He put his arm around her and smiled,"If you need someone to talk to I'm there for ya."He said quietly. James glanced and Scott and smirked,'Something tells me this guy is a little jealous.'

Courtney Berkly Courtney was a little surprised when Jame's didn't tell Rachel how he had truly felt about her but at least he was trying to comfort her, it would suffice for now but Rachel was the type who liked to hear how someone felt about her. As Zooey came back with the marshmallows, Courtney had instantly got off the couch and grabbed one in the bag, then quickly eating it. She was a sucker for marshmallows, she giggled at her friend who was multitasking by eating and talking at the same time. It reminded her of a game she used to play as a kid. She quickly took another marshmallow, put it in her mouth and said a simple two words easily. "Chubby Bunny!" She laughed a little at herself and the memories that flowed along with the phrase. "Sorry, it was a game I used to play as a kid with my family around this time of year," She explained before chewing the marshmallow up and swallowing it.

James Wilson He hugged her and smiled,"Rachel...could oyu meet me in the kitchen?"He asked. He wanted to get out of the living room and get Rachel under the mistletoe, even if she hadn't gotten his name.
