So I beat Mass Effect 2 again and saved everyone this time.

So why did I like it so much better when my characters died?

ninja gaiden sigma can choke on one. perhaps the only game where the camera is responsible for my deaths.ch 13, few more chapters to go thank gawd
@trachea probably cause it a lil realistic that some people died, since the game was around the fact that your char's may not make it, if that makes sense

I dunno. I just don't think there's much tension when everyone makes it out all hunky dory. And I guess I've always preferred darker or depressing endings. Probably why, despite the fact that most anime I've seen bores the crap out of me, I'm such a big fan of Yoshiyuki Tomino's work; Space Runaway Ideon pretty much set the standard for kill 'em all endings(I still say this ending made Evangelion's look like an episode of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood), and Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack both ended in rather brutal fashion without it feeling exploitative.
My favorite ending from Dead Rising 2 is the one where Katey succumbs to the zombification and Chuck commits suicide by letting the zombies eat him. My favorite ending in Silent Hill 2 is the one where James drives his car into Toluca Lake after not being able to make peace with Maria. Just a few examples of me preferring the darker endings to the canon ones.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow(I don't care what the fanboys say, I maintain this is the absolute best Castlevania game ever made; and before anyone says anything I did play Symphony of the Night as well as most of the other games in the series) has one of my favorite video game endings ever, especially with the DLC explaining the circumstances behind Gabriel's becoming Dracul.
