Lucy looked him in the eyes, trying to figure out if he was lying about all of this or not.
"I can't believe I could could be a demon, I am nothing like a demon at all. I am kind, sweet, caring, good, and all kind of things demons are not. How in the world could I possibly be a demon?"Lucy asked.

He shrugged. "All witches are demons, actually. Or rather, descendents of us. Our magically stunted children. The elves cursed us, you see. That our children would never match us. But they couldn't block the magic entirely. In some witches, a recessive gene is activated, and they begin to sicken early in their childhood. It came to be known as Rosewood Syndrome. You are a demoness. Demons aren't an inherently evil race."

Lucy slumped in her chair, as if she had just been told the worst news in the world. She couldn't believe this, he was telling her she was more like him than she had thought.
"I have always been told demons are evil, well, not by my parents, but people who had come to stay with us. They said demons did such awful things, hurting many people,"Lucy spoke, her voice unmistakably filled with shock.

He patted her hand reassuringly as the familiar waitress brought their food...sandwiches, tea, and lemon.
"We're not inherently evil. But we usually choose to do evil things. I would never see reality again if I didn't. The sun is already lost to me, without possession. Besides...In the ever after, smut hides you from things you'd rather not awaken."

Lucy wished she knew what to say, but for once, she was at a complete loss for words. She looked at Dare and thought about how she wished she could be calm about this, but it seemed to be eating her up inside.
"I am not like you, I could never dream of doing anything evil to anyone. You have seen how I am, just seeing the way you treat the dark witches upset me,"Lucy explained.

He merely smiled, nodding to the tea. "Drink it while it's hot, and I'll explain a bit."
He cocked his head to the side. "You're much more like me than you think. Your drive to be the best you can be in magic. Your curiosity, your love of challenges. Before the Ever After, we demons were very different. Don't worry, you'll get used to the idea. You'll be here forever."

Lucy picked up her cup of tea with shaky hands, trying to calm herself down as she began to drink her tea. She listened to what he said, agreeing those things he mentioned were part of who she was.
"Yes, but I want to be the best I can in magic to help people, not to hurt anyone. Yes, I will admit I am curious, since that is part of the reason I am traveling around, to learn more about the world. As for challenges, they definitely keep me on my toes,"Lucy admitted.

"A lot of demons would help people if it wouldn't banish them to hell for eternity, and leave them defenseless against a great many things more evil than us down here. Smut can hide many things..."

Lucy sighed softly, not liking how demons were forced to do things that many did not seem to want to do.
"That doesn't seem fair, demons should be able to help others all they want. I mean, I don't see why they shouldn't be able to, they are living creatures just like everyone else,"Lucy pointed out.

He raised an eyebrow. "If you help someone, here, you are not able to ever leave the everafter, even at night. And here? If you don't have plenty of smut or a great deal of skills and protections, something eats you. Why do you think I make you sleep in my rooms? They can't make it through the wards. Your soul...is like a light in the darkness. It can be seen for a very long distance by those who know how to look. My room is safer for you."

Lucy shivered as she heard him say that things could eat her here and that definitely scared her. She nervously drank her tea, her eyes seeming to look around the area for anything that might pop out at her.
"I don't like this, I don't like this at all. I certainly do not want to be attacked by anything here,"Lucy admitted.

He shrugged. "I don't like the idea of you being attacked by anything here either. But realistically, the chances are much lower now that I've publicly claimed you as my wife that a demon will attack you. And my wards are significant as long as you stay in my room while you sleep. I'll teach you, and if you take the smut yourself you'll be safer with every spell."

Lucy looked so conflicted, as if she was stuck between a rock and a hard place, with no way out. She leaned back against her chair, trying to decide what to do.
"I feel so confused right now, I just don't know whether I am coming or going anymore. I mean, I don't want to be hurt in this place, but I also do not want to change who I am,"Lucy spoke.

He met and held her eyes. "Well, ultimately every demon must face that question. Which is more important? Purity, or survival?"

Lucy looked disgusted as she heard a voice near her and felt fingers pulling her hair.
"Let me go this instant, you slimebucket, you have no right to touch my hair. What makes you think it is a good idea to touch my hair, it doesn't belong to you,"Lucy hissed in anger. She rose to her feet and turned to look at the demon who dared to touch her hair.
