Its not a bad idea smile THe thing is, the majority of students who want to join already know what house they are best suited for, plus one of my friends i know extremely well took tests similar to that and got ravenclaw, when infact, she is the biggest ditz (i love her anyways) that i've met XD So i usually judge based on the sentences, but yeah, ill think about it nevertheless smile

      Hmm, yeah. That's a really good test. Results are based on your actual personality... not what colour you like best. I myself used it as one of the test to establish which house I belonged.

*nods* I find that by hearing about someone, i find out who they are better, not by a test most times.

      If you think about it, not everyone really fits into the stereotypical view of the house they belong...

      Neville Longbottom -> Gryffindor [bravery]
      Luna Lovegood -> Ravenclaw [intelligence. she's by no means unintelligent or anything, but she is quite queer, especially in terms of... nargles and so on.]
      Cedric Diggory -> Hufflepuff [this house supposedly lets in those that don't fit into the stereotypes of the other houses. this is why this house is often believed to be portrayed as the one for 'leftovers'. but the hogwarts champion was from this house!]
      Hermione -> she's 'intelligent' enough to be in Ravenclaw, though she's in Gryffindor. Which says something, albeit making it all the more difficult, about how the hat chooses which house each belongs to.
      And the hat believing Harry would do well in Slytherin? Was that because he was a horcrux of Voldemort's at the time, or because it really believed he'd do well there?

      On another subject... Hermione earned lots of points for her house because of her intelligence. Though it seems Ravenclaw never won the house cup? What does this say about the students? That they aren't as smart as Hermione? Or that the hat has a different idea of intelligence? It could be the way one thinks rather than the knowledge one has.

Good points, i really think you have some good points there smile But if i can't detemine it by getting to know them then im not sure how tests could, since everyone may change their view of themselves and all...eh i think i could just judge on what i learn about them and sort them but i do agree with a lot of what you said there smile

      Well Luna Lovegood is quite a ditz if I do say so myself, but being a ditz doesn't mean you're not clever and witty, I am pretty ditzy myself, but Ravenclaw was behind me by 10 points. (I'm not being difficult, I just love debating, sorry if I seem like i love to argue)

      Excellent point you made there, Hermione is very intellegent, but also very closed minded. That's probably the only thing that kept her out of Ravenclaw. You need to have a touch of creative thinking to even get into the common room.

I was thinking that our House competition ought to last one standard Hogwarts year (Sept 1 - 3rd week of June). I know we started the competition late, October instead of Sept 1, but would make more sense and all things to be more spread up if our year doesn't end on Jan 1. That means more time for the tournament, it would also put use into the same time line that the tournament took place even though we already had our Yule Ball. So far we've stuck to the rules set up by Rowling, why not keep our year the same as hers?

I was thinking of doing that, but i wasn't sure if it would seem too long, so i was thinking of splitting the year into two terms, perhaps this one lasting until, january, then the next lasting MUCH longer, until spetember. School continuing in the summer since it's gaia and not real life smile

The Hogwarts school year was broken up into 2 terms, with the 1st ending around x-mas holidays. I just think its a good idea to keep the RP in line with the rules of Harry Potter. Since class at Hogwarts doesn't end until 3rd week of June, that covers roughly 1/2 of a RL summer break.

You could then put up a summer vacation sub-forum and allow anyone to post whatever during the break June 17-July 31. Then lock the sub-forum (making it crew only) when the school year starts back up again on Sept 1.
