Hello, my name is Raven and I am 15 years of age. At about the age of 12 I started asking various questions about life and got little replys in my catholic school. I decided catholic school was not going to help me so I went to public school. My teachers there would not answer my questions either. Everyone around me had little patience for me and my never ending questions. With no one answering I started to look for the answers within myself. At first all my self-reflection led me to a strict atheist stand point. When I was 13 I read something about the laws of attraction which I did not completely agree with but it got me thinking about positive and negative states. I decided it was important to strive for existing in a positive concious state. I started writing about how to acheive this. I ended up stumbling across the definition of nirvana which only caught my eye because of a band smile . What I had been describing was Nirvana. I looked into buddhism just a little bit more and found many similarities between buddhist belief and my own. Well since then I have allowed myself various experiences and indulgences always keeping myself fully aware of my actions. One of my experiences changed me a little. I had chemically altered my state which changed my beliefs to a soft atheist/agnostic. Well since then I have not touched anymore substances and I am ready to learn about buddhism. That is why I am here. I am very uneduacated on the topic.
kpeace heart

Welcome to the Guild, aguave! I completely understand your story (except for the chemical part). I also had many questions, and the answers I was being given were not answers at all (this was in the Church I was attending at the time), they were "if you disagree, then you're wrong!" I never could accept that as an answer. How can you be right if you don't question anything? Of course that last question I asked is problematic in itself, but at least I've found a place where I can honestly ask it and get honest responses. biggrin

Hello, my name is Aika and I am a Pure Land Buddhist. I have been Buddhist for all of my life, but have gotten more in touch with my faith ever since I began a vegetarian, which was about three years ago. I am currently 16.
My grandmother is a very devout Buddhist. She is Chinese, as am I. She worships in a monastery, which I've been to in Malaysia. I have also been to several monastaries in China. I like the Buddhist faith because it is peaceful, and helps out in ordinary life, especially in your adolescent years when teens are more "impressionable."
I go to a school where Judeo-Christian is a strong influence but I do not mind. I follow the teachings of master Chinkung. My grandmother does too. She met him once, I believe. My family is Buddhist, but they are not vegetarians. It is a choice for them. My brother does not worship, he does not practice, sometimes my heart breaks for him. He is one of those impressionable teenagers and I wish him the best of luck.
Well, I think I've said enough. Thank you all for listening.

Hiya, im Vincent and i'm 17. Since I was about 11, I've questioned my raised religion (Catholic) during a five year depression/sucidal period. About a year or so into the depression, I completely abandoned the religion and felt completely empty for about three years, when I was starting to pull myself out of the depression and felt like something was missing, something spiritual. Christianity I felt gave me nothing, and if anything it made me feel worse almost all the time. I looked into a few other religions, but the only one that stayed with me was Buddhism. After reading a book called "An Introduction to the Buddha and his teachings", I felt like I needed to know more.
When my dad found out about my interest in the religion, he was actully very happy for me and told me that he believes quite a few Buddhist teachings too. One of his good business associates is a devout Buddhist and sent me a meditation cd from his teacher and gave me some more things to read on the religion. I still was kinda shaky on the religion, until I went to Japan in 2004. For some reason, I felt at peace when I was in the temples or talking to monks about the religion. Meditation seemed to be only thing that could help me at times and all the events in my life seemed to fit perfectly together with karma. So since then, I've kept my interest in Buddhism and wanted to find more about it. Only problem is that I don't know of any Buddhist in my school and there isn't any temples near my home, so I rely on books and internet and believed that this guild could help me find out more about the religion and myself ^_^
Thank you for reading ^^I Sorry its so long.

Hi, I'm Richard, 16 years old and I live in Canada. Maybe two years ago I've been very interested in theology, and so I started reading about all the beliefs I could find, upon doing so, I started to question my own belifes as a born christian, and for a year I set out in search of a religion that more suited me and not my parents. I found buddhism at the begining and have been thinking about it ever since, comparing and contrasting, I finally decided that buddhism was the religion that best suited me, so I took action. A little while after becoming buddhist, here I am, I found your guild.
I hope I will be an active postive member in this community. =D

My name is Frank in the real world, and I'm 19. I became interested in Buddhism about a year or so ago while on a spiritual quest triggered by the terrorist attacks of 9/11. I currently consider myself to be a Hinbu, or Buddhist Hindu. My practice is primarily based on Hindu Raja and Gnani Yoga, but I am also heavily influenced by the teachings of SRF (Self Realisation Fellowship), Ananda (and SRF spinoff), and the Ahjaans of the Thai Forest Tradition of Therevada, more specifically Bikkhu Bodhi and Thanissaro Bikkhu. I am currently in college working on a Religious Studies Major. In my spare time I read Eastern Theology, and write poetry. You can read my poetry by following the link in my profile.

My name is Keith, I became interested in monks at a very young age because I liked their robes. Didn't pursue any knowledge about Buddhism until I lost my faith in Christianity. I had been researching a number of different religions, and when I read about Buddhism, that just really caught my attention.
I have been attending New Buddhist forums for a while now, and my meditation is going quite nicely. biggrin
nice to meet you all, Keith

Hi there, and peace!
LOL - I'm not sure what to put as my name since it is rarely used, but you can call me Alvarea. I am currently female, in my later 30's, married with two young kids. I've been studying Buddhism, Zen, and similar philosophies (to varying degrees of dedication) for 15 years or so, and am currently hoping to "reconnect" a bit. It's wonderful to find a Buddhist guild on Gaia, and I'm thrilled to be here...
