Christoph picked up the tube and read the information on the back. It was completely herbal as far as he could tell, so he followed the directions and rubbed it onto the new bruise. It started working right away.

"Wow, that's great! Thanks, Liam." He really did feel grateful. The guy might have a prickly personality sometimes, but underneath it all, he was really just a big softie.

He winced, though, at the cutting edge in Liam's tone about the redecorating. "Uh, yeah." Christoph let out a nervous chuckle. "Sorry about not telling you." He held up his hands, half in a placating gesture and half as a defense. "It was sort of last minute decision, and it wasn't entirely my own. The place felt like it needed a new look." He shrugged, then stepped over to Liam and handed him the tube.

"Don't worry about the lessons, I was just kidding. Just... Just..." Christoph's hand clenched a little, then relaxed. "Just keep doing a good job like you always do." He turned abruptly and walked back out to the bar, behind a mask that was all smiles and charm again. The last song was almost over and it was time for last call. People would want one more drink for the night and he wasn't anything if he wasn't a people-pleaser.

On the inside, though, he wished he'd said something different. His life was full of those kinds of wishes. But he'd learned a long time ago that wishes came at a price. Some were too high to be paid.

A quick scan told him many stories. Lacey had downed the rest of the Long Island, which was no mean feat, and was looking around restlessly. Gavin and Daniel had exchanged info, and Daniel looked rather happy about that fact, since he was staring dreamily into space. Byron was hunched over his drink, staring moodily into the depths of the glass.

If there was one thing Christoph knew how to do with complete reliability, it was twisting his words. Without blinking an eye, he had seen that man turn out a gaggle of underage girls without a mean word between them. Charming as a puppy dog, without the slobber and shoe-chewing benefits. How he did it and, more importantly, why he did it, wasn't exactly a mystery to the violet-haired co-worker. There weren't many pure, undiluted answers given to him on a regular basis, but Liam was always paying attention in case his mysterious boss let something slip.

"Sure. The apothecary down the street sells this stuff, if you need more..." His eyes narrowed as he caught sight of Christoph's injured hand. "On second thought, keep it. I've got some at home..." Liam added, awkwardly rubbing the back of his hand, unconsciously sympathetic for the purpling bruises.

Clearing his throat quietly, stuffing down the aggravating compassion that liked to catch him by surprise, Liam paused as Christoph explained. His fingers tensed among the number of glasses he was carrying, a sullen pout forming upon his carefully nonchalant facade. Okay. Didn't Christoph mean that he felt the place needed a new look? Struck by the odd wording, he juggled the glasses to take the tube, only to set it in plain sight on the counter again. Yeah, definitely better to leave it with Christoph - he needed it more.

His boss left with all the suddenness of a man caught red-handed... as for what, he wasn't sure. The other male acted so peculiar sometimes it made Liam wonder who the socially awkward one of them both really was. It only strengthened the idea that the blond had something to hide, only, Liam couldn't put a finger on exactly what it was. Was it about himself, or the bar?

Exasperated, Liam walked out after Christoph a few seconds later, eyes intent on his boss from the other end of the bar. Setting the glasses up, he directed a few curious girls towards his boss for a drink suggestion [he wasn't much of a drinker, sadly]. As the last call rung out, Liam waited until the majority of those drinking were served before gathering up the dirties and dumping them in the sink. Wiping his hands on a towel, he took off his apron and picked up a tray to head out on the floor for a last bottle and glass sweep.

In passing Christoph, he paused, their heights similar enough to allow him to stand behind without anyone really noticing. "I wasn't kidding either, about being of more use than a busboy. Or the vacation. If you want a way to relieve some stress, let me know. I'm less scary in public, I promise..." He murmured, the last bit as close to humor Liam could manage. He leaned around Christoph to collect an empty Corona bottle and toss it in the recycle close by. With that, he flicked his boss on the shoulder and sauntered off.

Much to his annoyance, that last song was still playing and a number of regulars - mainly females - immediately took the opportunity to drag him toward the dance floor. Overwhelmed, Liam groaned and sighed, glared and rolled his eyes, but ended up with his tray taken away and three girls to share a dance with. Mouth a line of discomfort, a red smudge high up on each cheek, he twirled first one, than the other, until everyone was laughing and swaying to the smooth, soulful tune. Glancing up, he peeked at where Christoph was still serving, desperation written across his face. That moment ended quickly as he was tugged around to another partner. 'I don't get paid for this... aw, well, whatever...'

Lacey had her arms crossed and was tapping her shoe on the ground while she waited. What she was waiting for didn't matter, as long as it was something interesting. That is when she noticed Christoph come back out; but for some reason she never really noticed the other guy that worked there. Maybe that was just because they didn't interact at all. He seemed like he was back to his normal self; assuming he was acting different before. She bit her lower lip gently as she hurried over. After getting all relaxed, she felt bad about how she snapped at him earlier.

"Oye," Lacey exclaimed while she placed her hands on the counter across from where Christoph was standing. "Um so I am sorry about before," she said in her usual tone after making sure he was paying attention to her. A smile graced her lips after she apologized. She pulled some long strands of hair behind her ear and started fiddling with her hair subconsciously.

"You know..." she began talking again, "I thought about what you said." Lacey paused for a moment and leaned over the counter some to get closer. Her hair fell from her shoulders and onto the counter like a dark waterfall. "It does seem alive sometimes, but if something like that were true...what else could be?" Being closer, it was the first time she really noticed what color his eyes were in this light. She made a slight incoherent noise before speaking again. "They shine like rubies..." she commented as if she was in a trance. Her lips were parted ever so slightly as she started to drift off into dreamland while staring at him.

Luckily, she was snapped out of it when someone bumped into her. "Uh...I totally lost my train of thought," she stated with an embarrassed laugh. Lacey thought for a minute, but it just wouldn't come to her. Instead, she said something else. "Would you tell me your secrets sometime?" She asked with a sweet smile and a slight tilt of her head.

-♦ DJ Mel ♦-

Melanie noticed the mood of the place change, but didn't really pay much attention to it. She let out a sigh, followed by a chuckle, when Lacey downed the rest of her drink. That probably wasn't her first drink, so it was quite possible that she was already being affected a bit. Not that Lacey ever got really drunk. If she did, it was only apparent when she got home. She was always pretty good at pacing herself. Sometimes she didn't even get tipsy when it seemed like she should be. Why was that anyway? Maybe she had some sneaky secret. Whenever she asked, Lacey would mention the pacing thing. How do you pace yourself at a college party though? Or when you are playing drinking games?

Her hazel eyes shifted from the dance floor up to look at Lacey as she turned to walk to the bar. What was she doing exactly? Oh maybe she was trying to make up for her harshness from earlier. That would make sense. Deciding not to pester them this time, Melanie glanced around at everyone else. Sooner or later, her gaze rested on the guy with long odd color hair that seemed to attract a ton of ladies. It didn't particularly look like he was enjoying himself though.

Her gaze shifted to some other people at the bar. A couple girls that Lacey sat next to earlier in the night and some guy she didn't remember seeing before. He had the long dark hair and seemed content being alone. Wait! Why was she being observant? Being tired does weird things to your personality sometimes.

That's when she noticed Daniel sitting all alone. Without any hesitation, Melanie stood up and walked over to him with a smile on her face. "Hey," she said in order to get the guys attention, "What's up with you and the drummer?" She placed her hands on her thin hips while waiting for his shocked response. After all, who goes up to a stranger and asks such a question? Only bold nosy people that might need to be put in their place from time to time. In her eyes, she was just curious.

Christoph laughed as Liam was assaulted by females and dragged out to the dance floor. The pleading look that the young man shot to him only made him laugh more. The guy needed to lighten up sometimes. He worked so hard and rarely interacted with people. Still smiling, Christoph turned to a customer asking for a drink and quickly filled their order.

He heard the lilting voice of Lacey and turned, listening carefully. When she apologized, he said, "Ah, don't worry about it. I meddle too much for my own good anyway. Comes from not having a life of my own." He stretched his arms and yawned, covering it with his hand. Tonight had been a long night. He was looking forward to sunrise so that he could get home and hit the sack.

"Secrets? I don't have secrets." He winked mischievously at Lacey and added, "You just have to ask the right questions."

"Hmm," Lacey thought for a moment as she stood up straight, "I am not good at asking the right questions." She pondered some more while tapping her pointer finger on her lips. Her mind started to race with a ton of really imaginative thoughts. She had to ask something before she completely drifted off into dreamland. "Uh so this place is alive. Is it like a middle ground between dimensions? Do ghosts and other unknown beings come here without us realizing it? Are you some kind of supernatural? I mean considering the fact that you own a place that is alive..." she started rattling off her thoughts without thinking, "could you be really old but forever young?" Her big dark eyes sparkled as her imagination soared.

Lacey didn't intend on rambling like that. After all, she really only came over to apologize. Somehow it turned into her showing her geeky side. Things like this filled her fantasy world, which she constantly creates in her mind, all of the time. The possibilities of what could be really true were exciting for her. With that said, she didn't really like revealing that side of her; but she couldn't help it at this point. Most people would stare at her while she acted out of character in their eyes. It wasn't something she showed people that often though.

Christoph had to mentally wade through Lacey's barrage of questions. This girl seemed to have read and/or watched a lot of fantasy and sci-fi stuff.

"As for being old, but forever young, I think the more correct phrase is 'eternal youth and life'. At least, that's how I like to think of it." He nodded to some patrons who were leaving and had shouted goodbyes.

"The Haunted Music Box is alive. As for it being a middle ground? I don't know. That kind of implies a neutrality of sorts, don't you think? And I don't think the Box likes to be neutral in anything. It's just like me. It likes to meddle. It can just do it on a larger scale than I can."

He smiled cheekily at her. "And the ghosts? Well, if you can't see them, how can you know they're real or if they're there? That's all a matter of perception, my dear."

Christoph waved then, knowing Lacey would look, but not see who it was he waved at. It was the mist people. They swirled and glowed in response to his farewell and left as if carried by a stray breeze out the door.

♥ ♠ Call me Byron, that's all ♦ ♣

Byron was totally away from the world when Christoph went in and then out, something was wrong with him but he was sure it wasn't the liquor. He could barely notice the violet haired butler, but he snapped out of it when the song changed, it was like the whole mood changed, this was the last song and soon it was going to be the last call, he asked for one last drink as he watched the girls trying to dance with that butler, nothing like this had happened to him.
Then came the girl with the darker hair, she seemed to apologize for something, something that probably happened before he came in, the conversation then got interesting and he followed it with intrigue, it seemed there was some kind of secret but he didn't really know what it was all about, he was thinking about the closing of the place, when he heard Christoph talk about the place being alive, so it WAS real.
Byron looked at what bartender was waving at an he could swear he saw some kind of smoke move out the door, he rubbed his eyes and pondered a bit, he was sure he wasn't drunk, but a weird feeling he felt in the morning came back to him, so he decided he'd leave after that drink.
"I guess I'll see you around after the opening." He told Christoph, then he got up and left, thinking about what he had heard. He walked out steadily and a little arrogantly just as he came in, he wasn't even a little tipsy as he should have been.
This night Christoph found out one more thing. Byron was a good tipper.

"Oooh," was the only response Lacey gave at first. She thought about asking him something but decided against it. For some reason, she felt that those types of questions weren't something that should be asked. At least not right now.

"Well," she started after the comment about the ghosts, "I always like to think that anything could be possible whether you actually see it or not." That was when he waved at people leaving. She looked in that general direction to see no one there. A slight frown appeared on her face, but disappeared when she turned to look back at him. She smiled softly, not wanting to over load him with questions. For now, her mind was satisfied.

Her dark eyes glanced around the place. This time she wasn't actually looking at the people that seemed to make the atmosphere lively. Soon she came back to look at the bar. Lacey let her fingers run gently across the edge of the counter before speaking again. "Is it the one that wanted to give itself a new look?" She asked as her stroking stopped. Her eyes looked up at him again. Of course she was talking about the Haunted Music Box. Wait. How did she know the place was closing down for a few weeks? Maybe it was by random whispers from other customers, or maybe he mentioned something earlier. She couldn't really remember.

Suddenly, she remembered something that he said earlier. Or maybe it was bits of things here and there. It didn't really matter but it was what made her ask the next question. "Are you connected to this place somehow?"

That was when the guy with long dark hair spoke up and left. He was pretty close, so maybe he heard what they were talking about. That might not have been a good thing though. After all, it didn't seem like Christoph told everyone about it. He did whisper about it earlier in the evening. Then again, he tends to say odd comments. Lacey glanced at the guy who left before looking back at the bartender. "Do you tell a lot of people about this?"

| -I'm a W A N D E R I N G {satellite} |

'I knew it... My boss is a sadist. A good fer nuthin' sadist. Why do men like this... this... pushy behavior!?'

Liam was currently stuck between a rock and a hard spot, with an internal spiel sour enough to match. Between the three - now five - girls vying for his attention, the usually elegant male was finding himself hard-pressed to keep his balance. What do three blonds, a red-head and a lime-green dye job make? A living disaster, complete with high-heel jabs and enough body-splash scented s**t to make a man beg for mercy.

Alternately glaring at his chortling superior and yanking his hair out of yet another grasping hand, the suddenly popular barman felt as though he was fending off legitimate maneaters. What would happen if these female predators had their way with him like, needless to say, half the male population in the bar probably wanted for themselves? Exasperated and red-faced, Liam managed to twirl one of the blond's into a waiting pair of arms and slip through the gap in the crowd. Thankfully, not three seconds later, the song ended and a disappointed noise rushed up from the throngs of expectant patrons.

Finding his stolen tray, Liam purposely avoided the bar by attending to the tables scattered around the Haunted Music Box. For the most part, it wasn't all that messy. It never was, for some reason or other, not that Liam particularly minded. Made his job easier, even if it was peculiar. Just like the joint's owner, point-for-point. Casting a glance toward the long central bar, Liam frowned as he watched Christoph wildly flirt with a petite blackette girl. Well, the wildly flirting part was his stubborn opinion, as Christoph was likely only chatting per usual.

A tad miffed, Liam forcefully loaded another empty mug onto the tray and hefted it up with relative ease despite it's heavy load. Striding back to the bar, he wound around the open end and headed into the kitchen for a moment to set the dirties and empty glasses where they belonged. Swinging back out a moment later, he headed for where the towels were stored to get a fresh one. His step paused, for a brief second, when that blackette girl said something rather strange. Liam's gaze swiveled around and his elegant face became a masque of hard annoyance. 'Does he tell a lot of people what?! Is he giving away his cellphone number or something? Geez. Even I can't get that...'

Gavin & Wells
╚═≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎═╝

Elijah and Gavin were walking down the street. They ended up parting ways with the bassist shortly after they left the Haunted Music Box. After all, they didn't live in the same direction. Both of them tended to walk to the place, since it was fairly close. "So whose your new friend?" Elijah finally broke the awkward silence between them.

"Daniel," was the short response given. His hands were in his hands were in their normal place and the hood was covering his head again.

"You seemed to be comfortable talking to him already," Elijah responded without looking at his friend.

"Not really," Gavin replied as he glanced over at the taller male. Not that he was that much taller, but Gavin still had to look up slightly.

"Whatever. It took forever to get you to say more than two words to me," Elijah replied back with a slightly frustrated tone.

"I was different back then," the drummer paused before adding the next bit. "I made friends in Japan." Elijah knew that, but Gavin was trying to point out how it wasn't the first time he befriended someone besides the redhead.

"That's different..."

Gavin didn't bother to ask how it was so different. After all, there were the obvious things: like location. Instead, he brought up something else that seemed quite obvious to him. "What do you have against Daniel?"

Elijah glanced over at the shorter male. "Nothing," he paused before continuing, "it would be retarded if I decided to dislike someone before I even gave them a chance." He said that, but it might have been him trying to convince himself that this wasn't a big deal. He idly ran a hand through his red locks. After another stretch of silence, he spoke again. "Speaking of that..." he hesitated before finishing, "what do you think of Ian?"

Gavin wasn't satisfied with that response. It was obvious that something was bothering him. It was possible that the redhead really thought that; but there was something, related to Daniel, that was causing him to act odd. After all, Elijah was friendly with everyone unless they gave him a good reason not to be. He didn't even introduce himself to Daniel and almost flat out ignored him. It was completely out of character. Then again, any one that didn't know Elijah as well as he did wouldn't have noticed that. After all, the guitarist was kind of pulled in many directions a lot of the time. Then was no exception. The redhead sometimes ignored people by accident, but this time it was different.

"I don't like him," Gavin responded when he was asked about their bassist, "something about him bothers me." He couldn't explain it but that was how he felt. In his gut, he felt like he was bad news. Of course, he was never given an actual reason to think that, so he never brought it up. After all, Ian and Elijah are friends.

Elijah sighed and stared at his feet while he walked. "I was starting to get the feeling that was the case. Is that why you have been distant lately?"

"I didn't want to cause any problems."

"Well, could you try to get along with him better? A band needs to jell and if you two can't get along, then something has to change." Elijah ran his hand through his hair again. "I ran into this chick at the bar that plays the bass. We could switch him out with her." Even though he said that, they both knew that he wouldn't ditch a friend like that. No matter how awesome of an addition the person might be to the band; he wouldn't just kick a friend out.

"Is she any good?" Gavin asked while ignoring the question. Elijah knew that he would try harder to get along as soon as the question was asked. That was why there was no reason for him to respond.

"I don't know, but I was planning on getting her to play for me anyway..." Elijah replied with a short laugh, "You know...for fun. Plus...she would give the band an extra flare." His bright green eyes looked over at Gavin as he smiled.

"You just like her because she's female," Gavin stated with a small smile.

"Oh come on," he started, "you know I wouldn't get some random girl to join the band just because." With that said, they continued the playful banter as they made their way home.

Tap-tap-tap...

His pencil was out in the open again, flipping up and down on the edge of his palm, thumb undulating against the smooth middle part. Tap. Mind a clouded, hazy plane of space, he stared out at the dancing crowd without any inclination to join them. It was more fun to watch - for him at least. Whenever he was asked to dance, it usually ended up with him red-faced and clamoring with an excuse to leave. He didn't have two left feet... he was just short, which made it awkward half the time and embarrassing the rest of it.

Either way, he really did like to sit back and watch. Sometimes he'd pull something out of the view that he could put down on paper, a few words here or there, that might end up becoming lyrics in the future. Right now, however, his eyes weren't exactly focused on the dancing couples. In fact, he was barely paying attention to his surroundings. Time was slipping past and last call had been given, yet he remained where he was, a little smile sleepily pasted on his lips.

Needless to say, he was more than just a tad startled when a random voice jolted him out of his... whatever he'd been in. Blinking rapidly, Daniel nearly lost his pencil in his haste to figure out who'd spoken to him. Grappling with the rolling pencil and sitting up properly, his emerald-blue eyes cast outward to land on a familiar blond girl. Her smile was what really reminded him of where he'd seen her before - she'd giggled, that one time, when Gavin had still been here.

Her question rebounded through his head like a whistling bullet. Flabbergasted, a flush burst across his cheeks as he stuttered, then gulped audibly. "W-What? Uh... J-just... nothing. There isn't... friends. We're friends. W-why? I'm sorry... Sorry, who are you, miss?"

Her smile grew as Daniel reacted all flustered. It was the same type of reaction Lacey would give her when she was in dreamland. That in itself was interesting. Her smile turned into a laugh as he blushed and struggled with his words. As Melanie laughed, one hand dropped to her side while the other covered her mouth lazily. It didn't last for long though. After all, she was focused more on listening to his response. She just couldn't stop herself from letting the short laugh slip out.

"Is that so?" She responded. Melanie didn't doubting him, but she was curious to see what might happen in the future. They just looked so...what was the word? Ah it didn't matter really. "I'm Mel." She didn't bother to ask his name. After all, she already knew what it was, although she did want to know the drummers name. That was something she wasn't going to ask him though.

"You write songs? My friend does that, but she tries to do it in secret." Melanie laughed at the thought. She is pretty shy about that kind of thing. Well she is shy in general. What isn't she shy about? She gave Daniel a sweeter smile for once. After all, she did laugh at him a couple times and randomly asked him a weird question. "Anyway, I should probably get my friend home." With that said, she twirled around to see her friend still talking to Christoph. She stood there a moment while debating whether to go over or not.

He paled, ever so slightly, when she laughed. The laughter unsettled him a bit, enough so that even he felt a little doubtful about what he'd just said. But he wasn't lying, so why should he think otherwise? Biting his lower lip, Daniel fastened down upon the uncertainty welling in his chest. "Y-yes... Um... but only since... today." He corrected, wishing he wasn't the sort to stutter. It really was an irksome habit.

Daniel was still absorbing the fact that he and Gavin were now friends. For a couple weeks now, he had been troubled by how, exactly, he would approach such a delicate subject with the stoic drummer. He couldn't just ask Gavin right out, like some brainless fangirl. The man's skills as a musician were... more than a little impressive. It wasn't just the drumming, though. Was it?

Clearing his throat, cheeks uncomfortably warm, Daniel nodded in response to Mel's question. "I do... it's more of a hobby though, really. I like making words... come to life." He murmured. That was probably a strange answer, but it was the closest he could come up with that expressed what he meant. His eyes widened, but he managed to smile some in return. "Oh, okay... Ah, see you later, Mel." She really was a strange girl.

Before she walked away from where he was sitting, Melanie turned her head back to give him a wink while smiling. It didn't mean anything special. The wink was more of an 'I understand and see ya' type of thing. With that done, she practically skipped across the floor while avoiding random people that seemed tipsy with a quick sidestep. It didn't take her long to reach Lacey, but that wasn't where she was headed. She figured that it was a good idea to give her a few more minutes. There wasn't a huge rush. Soon she got to the door to the ladies restroom and entered.
