I'm thinking about playing either an ex-Imperial militaryman who joined in order to properly pay for his retirement, or a down-on-his-luck Chiss spacer who is encountered on the first planet.
Not sure what role I want, though. Probably pilot, co-pilot, or merc.

We have 10 seats... the more multi-roll your character the better.

Okay, the time's 30 ABY. There goes my idea to play an IK
So, I was thinking of playing an ex-Jedi-turned-soldier. Left the Jedi after the war, and sided with the Imperials (maybe because he/she was born on Bastion). Had some training, and is the Empire's go-to-person when they need the Force, and don't feel like calling the Jedi. Though, this person wouldn't exactly be a Master... more of an apprentice/knight. To them, using their Jedi abilities would be more of a last-ditch scenario, and instead rely more on a blaster of other training.

Why NOT go for a bigger ship? You're exploring the unknown regions, yeah? Boldly going where no man has gone before? Well it fits the genre to have a larger ship. It can go longer distances without needing to refuel, people will be better protected from hostile aliens, it will have overall better facilities, and there's a whole crew of Redshirts there that can be expended. Hell, the thing can be used to transport the supplies and personnel necessary to found a colony.
In this situation, I have one recommendation for a ship. Now, the Akula, as nice a vessel it is, is a dog of war designed for Commerce Raiding. It doesn't work. But what DOES is a Nebulon-B. At the time period mentioned, these things can be got for a song (since, by military standards they're obsolete) and their sensor systems are top of the line. they even have room for Starfighters and landing shuttles. Furthermore, complete deckplans for a Nebulon B can be found online.

The need for a bigger ship is not one to worry about. I reiterate, we will EVENTUALLY get a bigger ship.
So stop worrying about the fact that we're starting with a light freighter. I have a way of making it work out. If you're that worried about it, then drop me a PM.
Though, I am interested in the idea of using a Nebulon-B. Please continue

Consular/Doctor, or Sentinel/Survivalist....
And a Frigate? Seriously? Minimum crew is 300... Im all for a biger ship, but that sounds more like a colony operation...

The Enterprise from the Origional Star Trek series had a crew of 430, Des. And I quote from Wookiepedia: Quote: The Rebels were able to find other uses for the ships which took advantage of their sophisticated sensors and deep-space multifrequency antennas. Escort frigates were used as long-range scouts, search and rescue ships, or to relay information to command ships during battle. If nothing else, since you guys are starting with a light freighter, the expedition you're part of could use this thing with the players making use of it as a mobile base that they can return to for supplies and parts. Over the course of the campaign, they can get promoted somehow to actually commanding the ship. Just a thought.

Makes sense I suppose. We could function as a scouting cell of a larger vessel, sometimes remaining abroad for months.

Hmm... as a base of operations I suppose a Neb or Corona might make sense. What's in the frigate range that has an enormous consumable supply?

ElladanKenet Cale Darksun You asked me to continue. I did. sweatdrop In reference to the discussion of using a Neb-B Though, to be honest, I was mainly fussing at Des Well what else do you want me to say? Its a lightly armed and armored ship, a low grade capital vessel thats no longer really in active service what with the New Republic now using the Corona Frigate. Fully stocked, it can go two years without refueling and as a Star Wars ship its instantly recognizable to anyone who's seen the movies.

Two years is plenty long, especially since we *might* run into people that would be willing to trade knowledge for resupply.
